[Long story – go to the last paragraph for the punch line]
I’d placed deposits with three large dealers in the LA and San Diego area beginning the end of April. Except for Longo in LA, I could never get a straight answer.
So following a suggestion in one of these forums, I called or emailed several smaller dealers in the area and told them I was interested in a loaded Mag Grey TCH. A couple of them responded with “Oh, yes, we have lots of Toyotas, come on down with your checkbook. Anything to make you happy.” Yeah, sure!
On Thursday afternoon after reading a message that mentioned Frank Toyota, a medium size dealer in National City (just south of San Diego), I called them. The woman said that they were getting one within three weeks and it was not spoken for. If we wanted it we needed to go down there to sign up for it - no deposit necessary(!) It was late so we made an appointment for Friday morning.
Friday, as we’re looking at the newly printed inventory sheet, I notice that the vehicle is in status “G”, which means “on the ground.” They look on the lot and sure enough it’s there, still in wraps. If we want to wait for the PDI (pre-delivery inspection), including clean-up and their test drive, we can have it early that afternoon. It’s got TWO miles on the odometer.
We wait, take it for a test drive, sign the papers and drive off with a full tank of gas. MSRP ($30,589) + $50 doc fee (ok) + tax + registration + CA tire fee.
The punch line: everyone we met at Frank Toyota was great. I didn’t get that slimy feeling once. I did expect pressure from the F&I guy for all the extras we would “need” but he simply showed me a list of options and as soon as I said no thanks, we moved on. Based on my experience, I highly recommend them. (I never mentioned this forum and they didn’t ask me to write this message.) Yeah, we were also lucky.
They can remember me or not. I wasn't rude in my dealings with them so I expect the same behavior in return....and my warranty is good at any dealership....even over priced ones in Anchorage. If they don't like it I'm sure I can find a lawyer that can break it down real simple for em'.
Try Fitzgerald Toyota in Gaithersburg. I bought a Camry Hybrid there and had a wonderful experience. Since it was a hybrid, obviously I paid more but still the lowest price in the area by far since everybody else was at MSRP.
Delivered Internet Price: $25,233 Factory Invoice: $24,733 Delivered Value Price: $25,602 MSRP: $27,525
$500 over invoice. Be advised that this is a no haggle dealership. They will not try to tack things on during the process, you'll be charged a $99 doc fee, and that is it.
Back in meassage #3471, I mentioned that my SE-V6, which had been ordered in May, came into the dealership three weeks ago in the wrong interior color. I declined the car because I couldn't look at that color for the next 12 years. This past week, Governor Corzine won his battle to increase the sales tax in New Jersey from 6% to 7% and it goes into effect this coming Saturday. While at the dealership tonight, I asked the sales manager about the sales tax situation figuring that I would be grandfathered because the order was written prior to the increase. To my dismay, he told me that the state collects sales tax at the time of registration, not at purchase, and that I would be liable for the additional sales tax at delivery! I argued that the dealership was at fault for bringing in my car in the wrong color and should be responsible, but it fell on deaf ears. Unless there's a provision in the new budget to grandfather any purchase prior to the increase, I will have the pleasure of coughing up another three bills at delivery.
I'm looking to buy a new camry LE with floormats and Vehicle stability control in the Boston, MA area. Any suggestions on what kinds of prices I should expect to pay?
Just got an internet offer from a deal here in northern virginia...
-2007 Camry XLE V6 -Navigation w/ JBL Premium Audio -50 State Emissions -Driver and Front Passenger Heated Seats -Smart Key System w/ Push Button Start -Vehicle Stability Control w/ Traction Control -Wheel Locks -Carpet/Trunk Mat Set
$29,845 OTD.
What do you guys think? This is their first offer so I am guessing I have some room to move with them.
I got my LE with only mats for 19.5K from Toyota of Fort Worth. Texas Toyota of Grapevine said they can match the price on the phone but when I was at their dealership, they played game by trying to sell another with a lot of craps for >21K. They wasted my time.
Im glad you had a good experience, went to a dealership today and the guy was a total jerk. Anyways i was wondering how much you got your car out the door with tax and license.
Does anyone have any experience buying in the West Palm Beach area of Southern Florida? Especially interested in deals that can be made at Delray Toyota and King Toyota. Interested in buying '06 or '07 XLE w/nav. Thanks.
As a follow up to #3528, I called my State Senator's office today to get some info on the changes in the state sales tax. After some research at Motor Vehicles, I was assured that if I bought the car by Friday, I would be grandfathered for the 6% sales tax. I called the dealership and scheduled a "closing" on the car for Friday morning. An hour later, my salesman called back to let me know that we could close only if we had the VIN# of the car that had been ordered on May 16th. As of today, Toyota has not assigned a build date or VIN# to my order. If Toyota, does not give me a VIN# by Friday, I will have the privilege of paying the new 7% sales tax at delivery!! Come on Toyota, Friday is the deadline! If you're lurking tmusa, we need that VIN# on my SE-V6 at Caldwell Toyota in New Jersey. Stay tuned........
I am buying the Camry SE but not in a hurry. Wanted to wait a few months for better selection/incentives.
A salesman called today saying they are anticipating a price increase late August or September. Anyone heard of this or is he pressuring me into negotiations before my time frame?
The extended warranty is negotiable. I was told I could purchase the extended warranty within 30 days of original purchase date of the car but for a significantly higher price.
I have the 6 year/ 100K warranty for the camry hybrid, costing me $1425. I don't believe there's a 7/75K warranty unless it's from a third party provider. My warranty is directly with Toyota.
The sales manager showed me his "Black book" of warranty prices and $1425 was cost for the hybrid. I'm sure that book is doctored to make it look like a good deal. In the book the hybrid has a ranking of 5, which is the most expensive warranty toyota offers. The only other toyota to rank a 5 is the land cruiser.
FYI, a few weeks after I bought the warranty I received the extended warranty card in the mail that said I had to get the hybrid serviced from toyota at scheduled mileages for the warranty to be valid. I could get it service from a outside mechanic but it has to be documented that he used all toyota certified parts are liquids. The last time I got an oil change from a dealer it cost almost $100. Jiffy Lube around the corner from my house does it for $29 and Wal-mart does it for $19.
Wow, did I have a bad experience there. Their sales staff is the slimiest most unethical bunch of creeps I've ever met, and I've bought lots of cars at dealerships.
My first post so let me first say I feel fortunate to have run into this forum as your posts have been VERY informative. Thank you!!! I'm trying to EVENTUALLY buy a V6 and have tried to track this forum for a few weeks now ...checked all the various emails on this dedicated forum on transmission issues with V6s (last post on it was on May 05, 2006).
Was it just these ~160+ V6s that were affected back in April? 'Sorry for this post, if this is a settled issue but I just can't seem to find the VERDICT. If there is one, I will appreciate it if someone can point me to it. If not, why not?
louie7, as for the quote for a V6 LE in Chicago, I have received two so far:
FE + EJ + SR + VS + CF + Destination Charge = $24,640.00 and $24849.00 respectively. With tax (~8%), doc, plates, etc..the OTD is ~$26,800.
People don't seem to be too bothered with it both here on the forum and the dealerships (actually they just claim utter ignorance). I don't mean to pester but is the V6 transmission problem fixed and was it just related to a small batch or ??? Comments/flames?
#3564 of 3564 careful by louie7 Jul 14, 2006 (2:50 pm) I bought a 2003 tls acura, heard honda had tranny problems, ok, won't affect me--
3 tranny's later, i regret my decision, and all were covered under warranty however
where there is smoke there is fire!!
============================================= Hello louie7, I'm assuming this is in response to my email under the "The V6s ... buy or not to buy?" subject.
If yes, why are you willing to repeat history then?
Boch South in Metro Boston. check bochtoyota.com for the direction. The dealer's name is Chris. Just mention Matt and Sarah and he should remember us. good luck.
First car and got rip. (altough my price is not bad $21650 for Camry 07 LE V6, Rear spoiler, Rear Bumer Applique)
i think i got rip.. My car suppose have the option Carpet/Trunk Mat Set ($199) it come with the car by it self.. but i can't find the carpet/trunk mat set (it just a regular mat from camry) . secondly the automatic starter doesn't work that good. (cost me $699..outside can install for under $300. Also anyone got the option like "Touch of glass" what a waste $$. what should i do?
A decent price I got for a Camry I4 SE 2007 was $21,900 before Taxes and DMV fees. This comes with the standard options moonroof and lip spoiler. Unfortunatly Toyota does not offer any other options for the SE in the NJ area unless there is a dealer willing to custom order a Camry for you which is not many.
The trick to getting a good price in NJ is to email various dealers for an Internet Quote. Unlike other states, NJ dealers are very tricky to deal with. They almost never give out quotes over the email or phone, they want you to come in and negotiate. If you can get a good price in writing through an email, take it to your local dealer and see if they will match the price or offer you a lower price. That was how I got my SE below MSRP. good luck!
If your mats say Camry, then you got the Carpeted floor mats. In the trunk, if there is a mat that says Camry on it, then you got the Trunk mats also. The only difference from the Carpet set and the Carpet/Trunk mat set is the trunk mat. If you didn't get the trunk mat, then you should go back to the dealer and ask about it.
Take the car back and have them fix the auto start if it is not what you expected.
About the "Touch of Glass", I'm not exactly sure what that is, but you can always ask for a refund if they haven't installed it. Most items offered through the dealer usually is a high markup. You probably can get the same, if not better outside the dealer for half the price.
have 1995 xle v6 camry transmission failure..rebuilt by Dr Nix transmission franchise June 2005 it just went again and warentee expired...(60,000mi) what's the deal? are the 2007 out? Do I buy a new one? Thanks for any advice.
Stopped by my (small rural) dealer where I bought my TCH. They had about 7 regular Camry's on the lot, different colors and styles. Appears supply is starting to catch up and discounts should be the norm every where.

the configuration you mentioned is $22,474 for dealer's invoice.
