have only 250 km on it but I am rather interested to see how the gas milage is going to be. the literature claims 24 miles per english gallon (4.5 liters)
Also experienced a little degradation in the radio outside city limits ... but I still have the CD AND tape.
The truck runs nicely and quiet and so far I love it !!!!!!!!!!!

You should be able to fit three car seats in there as long as they are not all really large seats. I drove over 600 miles last summer with my two kids (both in booster seats) and my brother (about 5'10" and 200lbs) in the back seat. My brother had lots of room and was quite comfortable.
  • jfavourjfavour Member Posts: 105
Thanks for the car seat responses. It sounds like it probably will fit, but I should try it myself. The seats will likely change as the kids grow, but I am mainly looking for something where I don't have to put one in a third row in a car seat. I wouldn't want to have to climb back there every time to make sure he is strapped in properly, plus the issue with having to fold the second row down (which has a car seat attached) to get the kid back there.

I checked the Murano's spec's here on Edmunds and it says it has the same hip room in the 2nd row as the Honda Pilot, so it probably will work. I will take a trip to my local dealer and see for myself.
  • gerapaugerapau Member Posts: 211
jfavour: Not quite sure if you know but the Murano has no third row seats!
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
its actually 3.8 litres per english gallon. :-)
  • dweiserdweiser Member Posts: 288
Personally, I don't think I'd put anything in the 3rd row of seats in the Murano, especially since there isn't a 3rd row!
Q:> So, how many car seats will fit in the 3rd row?
    A:> None!
  • carnut37carnut37 Member Posts: 3
thanks for your input .... hate to disagree but the english (imperial gallon ) is 4.5 liters. the gallon you use is indeed 3.8 liters.

in any event ... what is your experience with fuel consumption ?? It is NOT that important but I hear a number of owners complain that the milage stated is nowhere near the actual consumption.... anybody out there please comment!!
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
the MPG rating is 20 city and 24 hwy per american gallon...thats why i made the correction...should be much more per english gallon.

we took a murano with 5 adult men to nashville (3 hours) and back. we got a total of 24.6 for the round trip.
  • jfavourjfavour Member Posts: 105
Thanks for pointing out my ambiguous post, guys. I never said the Murano had a third row, I said I didn't want to have to get a vehicle with a third row, just to fit my kids in the car. I know there isn't a third row in the Murano. The Pilot does have a third row, as does the Highlander, Durango, Explorer, MDX, etc. I want to find a vehicle with a wide enough 2nd row seat so I don't have to utilize a third row in a vehicle. It seems like the Murano's second row (back seat) may be wide enough for three. This may not be the case in the highlander, explorer, etc.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
i might be a little out of touch with my product knowledge...but when did toyota offer a 3rd row in the highlander?
  • lmp180psulmp180psu Member Posts: 399
Apparently, Toyota is now running a commercial touting their full lineup of SUV's, and mention the fact that the 2004 Highlander now has a 3rd row seat. Not sure how comfortable it would be, or how little cargo space there is behind the seat though.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
the back cargo area is even smaller than the area behind the backseat of the murano.
  • lmacmillmacmil Member Posts: 1,758
I believe the Highlander 3rd seat folds flat when not in use. I suspect it's only good for children and there's very little space behind it.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
im just wondering how they actually fit the seat in such a small space.

Question - on the information display that shows radio stations, temperature, trip information, etc. - my question is this - when you play a CD, what information shows up on your display when the CD plays?
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
the display will show which of the 6 cds is playing, which track, and the time of the track.
  • gerapaugerapau Member Posts: 211
I am pretty sure that you can adjust what is displayed when the CD is playing. I seem to remember some options that allow you to see the name of the song and possibly the artist but I don't think that I could ever get it to work. It kept saying something like "title unknown". Maybe my older CDs don't have the info on them that is necessary for this feature to work though.

Recently just drove down to Baltimore during Thanksgiving weekend, got around 24 mpg using 93 octane fuel & no more than 65 mph in highway. Great mileage just as advertised! Very smooth cruising in highway.
City driving mileage still sucks, around 12 mpg in NYC.
Just did my first oil change in a Nissan dealer, they charged me for $45 and BS me with some inspection fee. Didn't want to argue with the service manager because they did my oil change within an hour. That's NYC...
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
All the new nissan radio's have RDS and CD-Text capability. Meaning if you own or burn CD's with the CD-Text option (I use nero) you can set it to display cd, track, time (1-12 2:39) Track title (When doves cry) Artist (Prince) or Album (Purple Rain). It will also display the station names "THE BOX" or on some stations weather and stock qoutes. Most store bought CD's however do not include CD-Text information.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
i always thought you to be a little more 'manly' than to be stuck on prince...

    ;-)
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
roflol. I knew I would take some flack for that. Just first songs that popped into my head. Have no idea why :P
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
heck...you could even get married AND like prince these days!!!

    ;-)
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
Married two kids and still like prince. I figured prince songs would be more manly than the barney tunes I usually here in the car lol.

Not posting to complain! Just want to see if anybody has had similar experiences with a 2003 and what the fix is/was:

    1. Door has a "clicking" sound. Seems to come from the corner where meets the window. If I put my finger in there, it goes away. Somebody on the other board suggested using silicone. Any other thoughts or has anybody had a dealership actually fix this?

    2. Similar "clicking" sound from sunroof. No idea where it is coming from.

    3. I have been told that the driver side HID light is supposed to be noticable lower than the passenger side. True or false?

    4. When I turn on the brights (I have HIDs, I hear a "thump". Lights seem to work perfectly. Is this noise normal for the M?

    Thanks!

There are some service bulletins out. But may want to check weather strip on body where door closes. At the bend it is not attached. Some have put padding there to stop noise.

    2. Similar "clicking" sound from sunroof. No idea where it is coming from.
    Not sure

    3. I have been told that the driver side HID light is supposed to be noticable lower than the passenger side. True or false?
True, so light does not get into incoming traffic eyes.

    4. When I turn on the brights (I have HIDs, I hear a "thump". Lights seem to work perfectly. Is this noise normal for the M?
The thump is normal, there is a plate that moves that makes the low beam a high beam by opening up.
  • tqmtqm Member Posts: 9
Thanks to dmmakoski for the quick response.

Any specifics on the TSB??? I didn't see any when I went to the site.

The door "click" is the same on both sides. The sunroof "click" is a bit more elusive.

Anybody else have any sunroof "noises"????

Thanks for the clarification on the HID. I NEVER believe what sales for any auto company says.

The latest is: NTB03-105 (grease at certain points)
the old one is: NTB03-90 (weather stripping)

I don't know about anyone else here, but my experience with my 2004 Murano SE...( it rode so much better than the standard SL model) could not be any better...I did alot of research before my purchase...and I was sure to order mine fully loaded with all the toys....leather, heated seats/mirors..bose sound ect..Super Black on Charcoal interior what a combo...this is my 4th nissan car...the dealer here was more than happy to sell me this Murano for $33,500 after I explained to him right up front that was all I wanted to spend...as for the mpg its great...remember the on dash computer is only a guessing game check the mpg your self and you will find that its great on fuel...remember to use at least 89 octane...pay a little now or alot later...I have had the car for 2 weeks and already have 2000 miles on her....thanks and good luck to all my fellow Murano owners.......Joe...ps no problems at all..great sound system very quite ride...maybe some of you should have opted for the SE, a little more money but everyone I have spoken to here that has an SE has no complaints
  • dweiserdweiser Member Posts: 288
Gee, newmurano1, I'm glad you're happy with your new Murano but I don't quite see the need to diss all the SL owners out there. Are you that insecure about your choice? Your SE is no better or worse than an SL, it's just sprung a little tighter, like you.
    :)
  • htn123htn123 Member Posts: 15
when I was single and did not have family, my 2 Maxima were SE. Much tighter suspensions, more fun to drive. But now with 2 kids, wife and traveling far to see the fam and to the beach, I got me a Murano SL, and glad about it. Just did a 18 hours round trip from Austin to N'awlin. Would have been a bone jarring experience with the SE, but it's a much more soothing with the SL.
So, if you like fun driving, do the SE, but if you are going to do long driving, the SL is the ticket :).Peace.
  • newmurano1newmurano1 Member Posts: 3
Sorry it came across as an insult about the SE over the SL...didn't mean for that to happen...my point was that I drove both models and the ride was just about same over rough or smooth rodes, only different was that the SE handled much better,,,I guess that is why the option cost more,so I figured when your spending $30,000 OR more go all the way..you only go around once in this life, better handleing has a price...again I'm sorry if I offended anyone...Still hope all the Murano SE or SL owners enjoy the best thing to come along from Nissan Motors....Later Joe......and have a great holiday season...driving from Ma - Fla.. wish me luck

Has anyone found the drivers seat uncomfortable? To me it seems the seet is to short and there seems to be a bump that protrudes toward the middle of the seat. I sat in the passenger seat and it seems fine. Could be just one of those things I'll bring up with the service department.
Also, has the computer maintained all your settings?? thanks

Can the Murano owners who experienced the recent blizzard comment on the stability and traction in the inclement weather.

    Thanks

I have had my Murano since January and have taken the vehicle through some very rough weather. I have used the AWD a number of times and was extremely impressed with its handling and traction. To date I have no complaints about this vehicle and the way it handles itself in all kinds of weather. My wife and I both really like this vehicle. We have an 2003 SE.
  • dweiserdweiser Member Posts: 288
I'm running approx. 32 pounds psi in my Murano's tires. The tire pressure monitor shows around 27 in each and 26 in one (who knows which one) which was low enough to set the alarm off yesterday, cause the tire monitor screen to say "Flat Tire", and for the tire icon to come on and stay on. I'll bump up the psi in all 4 tires to 35 and hope this all goes away but has anyone had a similar experience? I'm thinking the air pressure was marginal and the cold weather caused it to drop below what the computer thinks is safe pressure. I heard the dealer has to reset the computer but it's a covered event.
    Thanks.
  • sean48sean48 Member Posts: 37
I had the same experience about a week ago. I had the tires at 33 psi. The weather (Western NY) turned particularly cold and, after being parked outside all night, the tire warning alarm activated after I had driven for about 1 minute. All of the tires measured about 27 psi on both the screen and by a manual check. I inflated the tires to 33 psi, and everything returned to normal (warning light off, monitor screen). As the weather warmed a bit over the next few days, however, the monitor screen showed the tire pressures at 35-36 psi. With more cold weather on the way, I think I'll have to keep the tires a bit above 33 psi to compensate for outside temperature drops.

Let us know if you have your computer reset to deal with colder weather.

My Murano had sat outside the garage for maybe 3 hours one cold morning between trips when the air pressure readings and alert went silly on me early into the 2nd run to town. I filled the tires this morning to around 35 psi but it had no effect on the tire icon or the pressure readings, still saying 27, 27, 27, and 26 and FLAT TIRE. Guess a trip to the dealer for a re-set is called for. Murano rides a little harsher but handles better with more air in its tires.

this afternoon. it got down in the lower 20's last night, and an armada said FLAT TIRE. ill have to ask service monday.

I finally "got off the pot". After months of over "anal"ysing every possible vehicle, it came down to two. The Pilot and the Murano. In the end the choice was there all along. After having to add every thing to the Pilot and get charged labor too, it was a real "no brainer". I couldn't be happier, I have gotten a lot of positive response on its looks and how quiet it runs, what an engine. It's fun to drive again!!! Like an earlier post" it's a 350Z with a bigger trunk".

Is the Dynamic Control Package really worth having if you have the AWD? Thanks in advance.

Went through a blizzard in Minnesota last Tuesday and car drove great. Have '03 AWD SL. Only complaint, the defroster apparently could not keep up with ice forming on the wipers blades. Even when it wasn't raining and freezing, I had steaks and missed spots of ice on the windshield. Car only has 2,100 miles and am taking to dealer this afternoon to see if the blades should be replaced. Otherwise, I sure enjoy the car.
  • tonymuranotonymurano Member Posts: 1
Own a '03 SL for about 1,000 miles - comments: 1) yes, I find the driver's seat uncomfortable too. 2) Gas mileage around town approx. 15 mpg., way lower than I expected. 3) it's great in snow and ice - - so good that I can't tell the difference between passive AWD or when it's locked on. 4) hubbub about CVT is overblown, "feels" different at first, but that takes about 400 miles of driving you wonder why all trannys aren't that way. 5) cabin noises from creaking and ill-fitting plastic mouldings is extraordinary and very bothersome - - wonder if the engineers bothered to drive one around.... this is NOT the case for other Nissans in my family, including Maximas and a Frontier. 6) Windshield defrost/ de-icing hardly works at all in snowstorms, must keep cabin around 85 degrees to maintain visibility - - attributable to large windsheild area and insuffiently directed blowers on glass? 7) Vehicle is mechanically superb and reliable. Great handling, power, etc. Hope this helps would-be buyers.

I had placed an order for the Murano AWD SL in Pearl White with sunroof 3 weeks ago after much deliberation between getting the Murano or the Mazda6. There isn't many configurations available for the car here in Canada. But still my delivery date is unknown. The dealer say earliest would be mid-January. What a long wait.....I'll be picking up the ext warranty to protect myself from any problems in the future....esp the expensive to fix transmission.

Is there any set procedure I need to use for rotating my tires with the pressure sensors?

I seem to remember someone posting something about this a while ago. The owners manual says nothing about this.

    Thanks!
  • spsepsspseps Member Posts: 6
there is no special method for rotating. just had mine done and everything came out fine. i don!t know what happens when you get new tires, tho. we!ll see.
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
There is no special procedure when you rotate the Murano tires unless you want the dealer to re-register each transmitter in each specific wheel.

The only advantage to doing this would be that the listed tire pressures would be displayed in the same position on the interior display as they were originally.

IMO, this would be a waste of time and money (I'm sure the Nissan dealer would charge extra for this service as it is fairly involved) since the pressure listings are really designed to be more of a preventative measure rather than specifically saying your left front tire is low, for example.

As to replacement tires, the transmitters are bolted onto the wheels, not the tires. Your tire dealer just has to be made aware that you have them so that they don't accidentally screw up the transmitters when the remove the old tires and install the new ones.

I imagine that by the time comes for replacement tires, the tire dealers will be much more used to dealing with the transmitters as they are I believe required be Federal Law to be on all new cars by some time in the fairly near future (a fallout if you will from the Ford Exploder tire issues froma few years ago).

In fact, the Murano is selling pretty well for North America. And guess what? Nissan is importing the Murano (made in the good ole US of A) to Japan for 2005. That should really up production!

I need a push here folks. I'm teetering back and forth between a Mitsubishi Endeavor and the Murano.
On one hand I favor the Murano, on the other I like the Endevor's 7yr/100,000 pwr-train-warranty.
I can get a great price on the Murano $25,500. Of course its your basic Murano with a few added tidbits like mud-guards, mats and cargo tray. Still a grat price. I can get the Endeavor for about 22,200 and 1200.00 more on a my worthless Grand Cherokee.
All totaled about 4,500 more for the Murano. Keep in mind none of the goddies like anti-lock brakes, side air-bags and dual air come with the Endevor.
So folks, I need a push, is it woth the 4500 more for the Murano? I think so but my wallet is arguing with me. By the way, both drove very well on my test drives.
    Thanks Bob
