Cheers for the opinions Mac24. That's what I figured.I reckon I've got a pretty good deal (2004 Hemi Sport SLT with plenty of bells and whistles for £26k ready to drive away looks good compared to prices offered by other importers advertising on Autotrader's site) so thought I'd jump in with 2 feet and have a go.

    What do you drive?

Ouch, they're expensive in the UK - near $45K USD. I'm curious, because I've never, ever seen such a pickup as a daily driver in the UK. How do these fare on the streets of Birmingham (or Leicester or Derby... don't know whether you're E or W Midlands)? It'd be pretty difficult if you lived near London.

Just think a little more laterally. Although very different in appearance to most other vehicles, it's similar in track, wheelbase, and overall size to many small commercial vehicles.......... which clock up many more miles, road hours, and time parked on the street, than the average 'daily driver'.

It's more a problem of perception than anything else.

P.S. Everything except food is expensive in the UK............ where I can buy Florida grapefruit of better quality and more cheaply than here in FL!

I drive an F150 and a Wrangler at the moment, with a Ram 3500 in my future (I think). However, at present I'm not in the UK, I'm in the Sunshine State dodging hurricanes (I guess someone has to do it!).

My brother is trying to purchase one of these trucks but seems to be having a hard time to find one. I was just wondering if they are this hard to find all the time.
  • KCRamKCRam Member Posts: 3,516
Depends on the market, the dealer, and the configuration of the truck. A small dealer won't have the same allocation as a mega-dealer in a large metro area. A rare set of options also will be difficult to find.

If he's willing to wait about 2 months, your brother is much better off ordering a truck exactly the way he wants it equipped. This is too much money to make compromises. My previous two trucks were off the lot, and I didn't have them more than 4 years. I ordered my 1996 Ram Cummins dually exactly to my specs, and I've now had it 8 1/2 years and 120,000 miles. Its replacement, a 2005 Ram Cummins dually, will also be ordered in about a month.

I ordered a 2005 Ram back in mid May because the factory stopped taking orders on the 2004's at this time. My dealer said the order would probably make it in in early July and that the truck would probably come in during the end of August or early Sept.

In mid August, my dealer got the VIN of my new truck from Dodge and within a few days he received confirmation (that he also showed me) that the Ram would be shipped on Aug 26.

After waiting week after week, I went ballistic on my dealer yesterday. He was told by Dodge that all 2005 Rams are being held back for some kind of recall. (Might explain why no 2005 Rams have shipped yet...)

Does anyone know what this "recall" is all about and whether Dodge will ever start shipping Rams again before the 2006 model year is upon us??? I know that my dealer is not yanking my chain.
  • dustykdustyk Member Posts: 2,926
    I haven't heard anything about a recall.

Normally RAMs don't start hitting dealers lots around here until late October anyways.

    Best regards,
    Dusty

Dealers around me (north NJ) have had 05s since late August, and stock seems to be changing by their online inventories. My specific dealer where I bought my 96 (and where I will order my 05) has seven 1500s and 15 2500s in stock right now.

If you have a VIN, call Dodge Customer Service and ask for the status of your vehicle. They should be able to tell you where your truck is and when it should get to you, as well as any holds or delays.

Known option delays are the sunroof and adjustable pedals - if you ordered either of those, it may be held up for that.

There is definitely something going on at Dodge. I got the VIN in early August. I saw a "confirmed" delivery date to the dealer of August 26. Now I'm told that the truck has been sitting for 2 months and that it would be quicker to reorder a new truck. This sounds like either my order was hijacked by Dodge to ship out somewhere else or Dodge has a major quality problem and has two months worth of production rotting away somewhere. I'm getting tired of the run around.
  • dustykdustyk Member Posts: 2,926
...or your dealer took delivery and sold it out from under you.

I'm looking at buying in the next few days and was wondering if anyone had purchased a new truck like this one recently. There aren't too many around here and the price competition is scarce. The first price given after rebates and with the Chrysler financing is $26,400. What do you think guys?

truck is loaded, with tube steps. sticker is 37,080. i got a quote for 30k. can anyone tell me if i can do better thanx
  • pyoungpyoung Member Posts: 2
I would think that you could do somewhat better than that -- maybe a 1000 or so. I was quoted at about 6500 below sticker for a CTD, and they are holding the rebates lower on the diesel. I would try for a little less.
  • jamesthomasjamesthomas Member Posts: 3
Well, over 2 months after parting with my cash, despite the slowness of the dealer, US vehicle registration officials and a load of hurricanes stopping all shipping out of the Gulf, my 2004 1500 5.7 HemiSport arrives on Sunday!

Now I've just got the UK registration officials to deal with! Oh yeah, and $6/gallon gas prices!

Can someone tell me if this price is fair or negotiable to go even lower?

Hello all. I am a new Dodge owner. About 3 weeks ago I bought a 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 4x4 SLT with the 5.7L hemi engine. It has the 20 inch chrome wheels and the electronic AWD and tow package. I bought the truck from CarMax after having it shipped from Knoxville, TN to Norcross, GA. The price was $23,995 and it had 10,000 miles on it. I traded in my 96 Nissan 4x4 King Cab with 89,000 miles, which they gave me $5,100 for it (purchase price after trade was $18,895). I thought this was a fair deal considering the great condition the Dodge was in.

    Questions:

It has an aftermarket (I think) dual exhaust system that has a great sound but it is a little on the loud side. Would moving the exhaust outlets from the sides to the rear make the noise a little quieter in the cab?

Also, I am now thinking about upgrading to a cold air intake system (such as K&N). What other brands are recommended? Does this void the manufacturers warranty? Does this actually improve performance and most importantly gas mileage over the original equipment?

I am also thinking of eventually adding a roll-top bed cover

Thanks for your suggestions and comments.

    Thanks,

    Anthony

I purchased a Ram 1500 this weekend. Great truck, but I am amazed at the deal I got. Sticker was $30,580, invoice $27,253 and I paid $25,790... before rebates. That's $1,454 below invoice, probably $600 below holdback... and almost $2,000 less that what Edmunds says others are paying.

I wish I had some great negotiating story to tell, but about an hour after a test-drive I called the salesman and told him exactly what I was looking for. He called back about 15 minutes later and gave me the price. Not surprisingly they weren't willing to negotiate any lower.

The sales manager told me they were trying to make quota, but there has to be something more going on to account for such aggressive discounting. Can someone explain to me how they can do this?
  • Kirstie_HKirstie_H Administrator Posts: 11,242
You'll probably never know for sure. It may be that they were 1 truck away from a $2000 bonus, which offsets any profit loss on the vehicle you bought. Maybe they just sold one to another customer for $1400 over invoice.

Just take heart that you were the lucky customer - congratulations!

I paid invoice (31K) - 3500 rebates. (Southern Cal). Emdmunds TMV was around 500 over invoice, so I thought that was a good deal, but someone posted they got 1500 below invoice. IS the TMV accurate? I think DOdge must be giving some extra incentives to dealers, because my friend also got one below invoice.

I love this truck. It is the best looking truck out there.. and the Hemi cranks.

One negative. The MPG is way below estimates.. I'm used to maybe 10% off, but I'm getting 11.5 MPG with a mix of City and Hwy.. when its rate 14/18. I should be getting 16. I'd be happy with 14. Hey its a Hemi, I guess I shouldn't even be thinking about MPG, right?

I noticed in a post someone getting a Chrysler loyalty rebate on their Dodge truck.. I had previously purchased a 2005 Jeep (two weeks earlier).. Was I eligible for the rebate?

    Thanks.

Took delivery of my 2005 Dodge Ram 3500 SLT Quad Cab 4x4 Cummins dually this morning :) Patriot Blue, Taupe premium cloth interior, 48RE automatic and 3.73 limited-slip ratio.

Sticker was $44,070, selling price was $40,000 even - just a couple hundred over invoice when the ad charges are factored in (metro NYC region). I added some Mopar accessories and the DC 7/100 extended service contract (Added Care), giving me an OTD price including TT+L of $46,965. Got back current incentives of $1000 rebate and $1000 Chrysler Financial cash. Didn't qualify for the 3.9%/60m special, but I knew that going in - still got a "single-digit" rate.

Traded the 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 SLT Club Cab 4x4 Cummins dually with 126,934 miles, and got right around Edmunds TMV for it.

Both the 96 and 05 were ordered and delivered from the same dealer, Bergen County Dodge in Ramsey NJ. Can't recommend them enough!

    Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying a new 05 Ram 1500 4.7 QC 2wd. I plan on using it as a daily driver for a 30 mile commute, but I also need a vehicle that can tow my 6500 pound boat/trailer. I'm curious of what y'alls experiences are with towing this kind of weight with a 1500 2wd...As noted, primarily this truck will be used as a daily driver, and I'll only tow the boat a couple times a year for less than 150 miles or so. The steepest boat ramps I'll be pulling it out from have about a 25 degree slope, so can the 2wd handle it, or should I get a 4WD, HEMI, or HEMI 4wd?

    Thanks,
    Scott
  • mylitlescoopmylitlescoop Member Posts: 1
You should just go for the Dodge 2500 it is heavy duty and is built for towing. The 1500 is not going to cut the mustard for whatyour trying to do. You defintely want to go with the 4wd and you want to look inside the sticker for the gvw it will tell you the capacity of your vehical towing specs.

1500's are not even recommended for plowing let alone towing, your definately better off with the 2500

Im in the process of looking at the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Quad Cab HemiSport Edition. I've been emailing the dealerships to get quotes on the pricing of these vehicles, but most of them want me to come in and waste time instead of just letting me know their price. Does anyone know what is a good price to pay on that truck? any dealerships that you can recommend? thanks, luke.
  • denverjimdenverjim Member Posts: 5
Hi. I'm looking at pretty much the same truck. My observations are some dealers are letting them go at invoice or slightly under invoice, before the rebates. I'm hoping panic starts setting in for sales managers with the end of month and quarter nearly here. Good luck.

One of our journalists is writing an article about women and trucks: why they love their trucks, the decisions that they have to make when purchasing a truck versus a car, and whether or not they’ve encountered discrimination or bias when buying or driving a truck. Dude,

That 1500 4.7L is WAY too light. Yeah, you could probably pull it - but I'm gonna tell you right now you're gonna be DRASTICALLY reducing the life of that little 9-1/4" rearend not counting the strain being put on the rest of the drive train.

You're gonna need a Dodge 2500 because it has a 10-1/2" rearend. A Hemi & 5 speed automatic with the $50 optioned 4.10 rearend gear will give you the best gasoline-powered pull capability (17,000# max with truck, passengers, cargo, & trailer).

The truck itself weighs ~6,700 empty, so you'll have ~10,000 pounds of room with passengers, cargo, & trailer.

This is the very setup I ordered from Dodge. I would've REALLY liked to have the Dodge 3500 with the Hemi because it has the 11-1/2" rearend, but I didn't want a dually; I could've ordered it with the single rearend wheels, but Dodge wants an extra $1,100+ for single wheel. (WTF is *that* all about???).

Good luck - you'll find your best deal is if you ORDER your truck. Dodge is offering a $3,000 rebate on 2500 trucks with the Hemi for March, so take advantage. Also, if you know someone who works at Chrysler, you can get the Family/Friends Plan that'll get you below invoice and you get the $3,000 rebate below that, plus you'll get an additional $1,000 rebate by financing thru Chrysler.

A word of advice: don't go wild on options - Ebayers are selling the options stuff (Mopar OEM towbars, OEM stereos, etc for CHEAP)...get the drivetrain and add the options later. However, I would get the SLT package - lots of creature comforts for the buck.

    Good luck,

    DY

I dealt with a dealer yesterday who quoted me a certain price in writing via email. The dealer listed the exact stock # and gave me a great price. When I got there, they said that they made a mistake in the price and told me that they would not honor the price that was sent to me.

I have checked the BBB and there are plenty of complaints about this dealership on other matters and it is listed that they are not in good standing due to their non responsive attitude.

I have contacted the dealership and their attitude is that how could I expect to get that truck at that price. They take no responsibility whatsoever.

Does anyone know if they have a legal obligation to honor the price that they quoted me in writing.

Any info would be quite helpful.

    Thank you

(WTF is *that* all about???).

This is because the 3500 single-rear-wheel has the more expensive Cummins diesel as standard - the Hemi is only available in the 2500 or 3500 dually.

You have already labeled them as "deceptive" and proven it via your inquiries to the BBB. So my question is, why would you want to business with them knowing what you know? Even if you got a great price, think of the issues you'll have with them down the road.
I'd go find another dealer. As far as I'm concerned, when I buy, I want to be both financially and mentally satisfied with the deal.
    Good luck.

How else do you drive a point home. Hit them where it hurts, in their pockets. I would have loved to buy that car for what they quoted me, but it will never happen. The only other satisfaction I could probably get is to inform anybody that is interested in buying a Dodge in South Florida is to inform them to stay far away from Fairbanks Dodge in Broward County....These people are no good....Go a little further to Arrigo Dodge where the sales people treat you with a little respect. I will never do business with Fairbanks Dodge and would discourage anyone as well.
  • marsha7marsha7 Member Posts: 3,703
You need to take your business elsewhere and then drive up to the salesperson and show them the sale the WOULD HAVE HAD if they had honored the quote...but maybe it is still better that you did not buy from them, because their service dept will be a reflection of the remainder of the dealership, which cannot be good...and, if you bought it there, but went elsewhere for service, yes, another dealer will service it, but you get placed at the "bottom of the list" when it comes to the little courtesies, because you bought it somewhere else...it is a natural instinct, dealers will take better care of those from whom they made some profit on the sale, because you may buy there again...so, it is not always in your best interest to get the cheapest price from a rotten dealer, because you may pay for it in other small ways over the years when you go elsewhere for service and warranty work... in other words, the cheapest selling price from from the worst dealer may not be the best price in the long run of your ownership experience...

I just picked up a Ram 1500 4x4 Quad SLT. 4.7L on lease. Had towing package, Big Horn group (20" rims, fog lights, other crap),and 24 G package. The sticker was 34,400 , the Gross Capitalized Cost was 28,239 and they gave me $7000 of rebates and incentives, meaning I could have purchased for $21,939. I had Friends and Family, and owner loyalty (I have a 97 minivan). I paid 3700 for a 1 time payment for 24 mon. / 24,000 miles.

I can purchase at end for 19,800. Was it a good deal, and should I have purchased?

Oh, please. You can get pricing just like this on the best selling pick-up truck in America -- the F150, or for that matter from GM or Nissan at the moment. I might add that Chrysler/Dodge are among the few native brands showing increase in sales in recent months.

As to quality, there's no evidence of a slip.

I bought my new ram at the end of last month.
Sticker was $33025, Edmunds listed invoice at $29594.
I added $3496.60 in dealer options. (bedliner, hitch and wire, running boards, bug deflector, and 7/70 extended warranty).
    I paid $29920 less $4000 in rebates for $25920.
That includes 12 oil changes and the dealer paid $1000 more than Edmunds said my trade was worth.

Can we have some names, addresses or phone numbers of those Dealers around the country who give rock bottom prices?

    sticker price = 34,880
    Hail damage discount = 14,990
after taxes and protection plans: total amount finnaced = 21,465

Most of the damage was fixed only minor dings on the bed and bed rails remain, and it only had 90 miles on the odometer when I drove it off the lot.

Anyone else have some recent prices paid? I was just at a dealer doing some research. I looked at a '05 1500 SLT QC 4x2 5.7 liter Hemi Sport/Tow/Light/Security groups. 20" wheels. MSRP was somewhere between $30,000-$33,500. $25,000 was what the dealer quoted.

I'm in Denver. The Internet Department at Jerry Morris Broadway Dodge treated me real well. I bought an '05 1500 QC 4x4 Hemi with the Big Horn Package for $9500 off sticker. We came to a agreed price over the phone without the back-and-forth negotiating hassle other dealers make you personally come in for. Good luck.
