But earlier today over on the Honda Odyssey board I posted the link to the Honda JDM LaGreat web site. Too many people were talking about the new Odyssey (yes, the 3rd generation of the Ody we had here from '95-'98) with its 4 hinged doors, thinking it was what we were going to get. We get the LaGreat (badged as Odyssey). I doubt that American Honda would re-introduce this boxy Accord to North America.

To the best of my recollection, the 3rd row seats in wagons (by the then 'big 4') of the late '50's & 60's were all rear facing. Ford introduced the split side facing 3rd row in '69. The forward facing 3rd row of the International Travelall and Chevy Suburban didn't go into the floor. That may leave the '95 Odyssey as the first in-the-floor forward facing.

I was envisioning something more plug-n-play. I have very little fondness for speaker outs. I'm amazed at how many OEM decks have no line level outputs at all.
  • hondafriekhondafriek Member Posts: 2,984
The other hand there is still no aftermarket Audio manufacturers offering an in dash 6CD changer while just about every car maker does, go figure.Granted with the advent of MP3 players this is less of an issue.

I also agree I don't know what the hangup is about offering pre outs on factory decks.

All but the cheapest aftermarket decks have them.

on the way home last night. While I doubt that Honda would reintroduce this smaller model to the USA, given the success of the bigger LaGreat (our Odyssey), it might just be the target vehicle for Subaru's 7 seater. 2-2-3 seating with the 'magic third row' and AWD (optional), this 'grown up Accord' is a pretty nice package.

Strange, Bob. But solidifying Buick as the car for older buyers (45+) may not pay off in the long run.

I hate the Celine ads, too. Pacifica launch was a huge flop. Chrysler's rebates on that model are up to $3000 already.

The JDM Odyssey has just the right shape, size, and features (AWD, 3rd row) to make it as a crossover in the NA market. That's why I see it as a possible Acura. But will it make it with "just" a 4 cylinder.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Not as an Acura. Good point.

The 2.4l is quick in the Accord, peppy in the CR-V, but only adequate in the heavier Element. Some people complain about that.

To haul 7 people I'm not sure if the 2.4l will manage. Maybe if it's lighter than the CR-V.

    4-Cyl = no thanks.

Gotta have the V-TEC 6 IMHO.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The 3.5l is sorta big and pricey, I think Honda needs an inbetween engine at about 3l.

Honda has a 3l engine in the Accords.

Of course, I kept thinking of the 3.5l.

That 3.0l would be fine for the smaller JDM Odyssey.

Yahoo! Just found out I got perfect scores on 4 IT-related tests they gave us at work last year. Perfect attendance, too.

Won a free 256MB USB memory card for it. :-)

Would have preferred a good ol' fashioned bonus but I'll take it...

Well, I did my homework, and can now give my "final answer". Believe it or not, Honda copied (or at least was inspired by) GM!!!

The midsized 1964 Olds Cutlass Vista Cruiser and its near twin, the Buick Skylark Sport Wagon were memorable because they introduced the raised panoramic glass roof panels. They also featured a forward facing third row seat that folded to create a flat load floor.

Wifey wants that USB memory card, there goes my prize! LOL

I could get one from work if I needed one neeways.

Saw most of those pics on the chat. Nice Benz. Funny Z label. Lose the silly brace and you could actually fit cargo.

Which Lexus had that label? The new GS?

I can't explain why, but the toned down two-tone actually looks good. Maybe it's the new color combos. I don't usually like it.

Love those projector beams. Even the fog lights have projector beams, I believe.

Steve: did the seats fold down, under the floor? The best part about the Odyssey was that well increased cargo capacity even when the seats are in use. Got any pics of that car?

    If so, why?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
They did a year or two ago. Even the Impreza TS wagon has the 2.5l.

I was surprised, too. CAFE numbers are borderline, I think they could use at least one engine in the 2.0-2.2 range.

To the best of my knowledge it is no longer being sold in any car, anywhere.

I would think the latest 2.0 can match it for power, and beat it for economy. Also there is the 2.5, so maybe they think the 2.2 is just too close in size to both the 2.0 and 2.5. Remember, the 2.2 arrived before the 2.5. My guess is the 2.5 superseded it.

I would not be surprised to see the EJ20 2.0l make a come back in the US. They put one in the B9SC.

With new Kias getting variable valve timing, I'd like to see Subaru make AVCS more available. We are now officially behind Kia! :-(

Ford GT is cool in concept, I don't know why it just doesn't do it for me.

Ford (you could even say the Big 3) is always looking back to its glorious past, as market share continues to erode.

They need to look forward. Even the new Mustang has a live axle, this is 2005 folks! Get out of the Stone Age, Ford. If they had spent the Ford GT R&D money on improving their mainstream cars, we might not still see live axles on the Mustang.

I'm glad to take the pics and put 'em somewhere for everyone to view 'em. I have the slightly less compressed originals versions here as well, so if anyone want's an 'original', shoot me an email. Most are about 400-500kb or so.

Check out that Tigra hard top.

Cooper drop to will be a hit, watch. They say it'll be $5 grand more than the coupe, so $21-26k base price.

Mazda will update the Miata just in time, with Solstice and Cooper conv. arriving.

I originally found it in my copy of Tad Burness's 1940-1965 American Car Spotters Guide. This, and his Import Spotters Guide are "must have" books IMHO.

I also found a link to an advertisement that shows the same:

Vista Cruiser! I remember those; with the sort of skylights all around.

The wagons with the rear-facing seats were the most ridiculous thing ever. I recall many instances of obnoxious little kids making faces at me while I followed one of those things down the road. I've always wondered how many cases of road rage were started in that manner...
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Maybe this will make you feel better, Loosh. If your memories are that fond, you probably sold it at the right time! :o)

Pat's car being the insane/OCD exception.

Nice catch, Steve. Look how long that wagon was. My dad had an early 80s Olds Custom Cruiser wagon w/3 rows. It had great features like a rear gate that would fold or swing, and a window that went down into the gate.

But...that V8 guzzled gas, was slow, and the whole thing handled like a bath tub half full of water. 3rd row also made you a little car sick at times.

starts Wednesday. Glenn Wallace (newimpreza.com and nasioc moderator) is racing a STi. There's also a turbo Forester and Baja turbo being entered, all partially sponsored by Subaru Western Region.
