paisan: the 320 engine is sweet, but the RWD Kompressor wasn't lacking.

From the Future Models thread, the Magnum sure does look better than the 300C. But even the 300C Hemi was one tic behind the F-XT in the quarter, with a lower trap speed, too.

    Gotta love forced induction.

The Magnum Hemi is heavier and a few tics slower still. AWD would put about a full second between it and the F-XT.

I like the TSX, also. Acura finally has styling down pat, I like the consistent look. Catch is an AWD wagon would likely be too heavy for that 2.4l engine. 166 lb-ft of torque is what a base Outback produces.

With Honda's 4 cylinder engines, light weight is ESSENTIAL for performance. That's why the 2.4l TSX is quick, but the same engine in the Element is only adequate.

I once found some good advice on PDAStreet.com, I think they have forums (that don't compete in any way with Edmunds).

since I got home last night and as soon as it touched the cradle it synced right up. I'm expecting to have regularly scheduled interruptions since that's how things generally go for me when they start off that way. Makes things interesting though so at least it has that going for it.

Saw my first Toyota Scion xB on the drive to work this morning. Sheesh, it makes the Element look almost curvy in comparison :(O)

I guess its a sign of my advancing years that vehicles like that just don't do anything for me ;-)

Since the iPod is a coomon thing on this forum, did anyone see that Apple moved 807,000 of them last quarter? I guess all of the crew went out and got one.

I don't think it's your age. The Scion xB and Element do nothing for me either and I passed 50 a couple of years ago. I do like the Dodge Magnum, looks to me like an modern interpretation of the lead sled street machines of the 50's.

    Bob & Chuck,

Age has nothing to do with it. I do not like the style of the Scion, or Element either. I need a vehicle that has curves in it:-).

Most people I see driving the Element are middle-aged. I haven't seen enough Scions on the road to make a judgment yet.

and I like the Xb quite a lot. I like the Element as well and the Magnum does remind me of cars from my youth. There aren't too many cars I don't like in some way really, the new BMW 5 and 7 being on the no way list though.

But I was flying the Stars and Stripes against my wishes. We're not the 51st state yet. I think it changed when I opened and then privatized my e-mail, but I didn't touch my other data. Still, the Maple Leaf was gone. How'd that happen??

Wifey *loved* the Scion xB. And the one we saw stickered at $18k, and you pay sticker at Scion. If she knew a base 5 speed went for $14k, it would definitely make her short list. The back seat is way, way bigger than any Subaru on the market.

Still, 1.5l and 108hp won't cut it for our payload. But it may be the best deal in terms of cubic feet per dollar on the entire market.

Chuck: you love it, JB hates it, and he's a senior citizen. Tastes vary, what can you say?

I saw an Xa this morning. Not as ugly as I expected.

I also saw a Kia Amati this morning. It too has the Bangle Bump on the trunk. Perhaps it isn't just him but a styling trend.
  • ldbrickerldbricker Member Posts: 140
a supercharger option? That would make it an interesting vehicle. It reminds me a little bit of an original Mini Cooper that's been inflated. Angles aren't always bad on a car, at least in this case.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Naaaah, you think?

    http://kia.com/amanti/amanti-photos.php

There is a barely perceptible crease that flows into the design.

Bangle has an intersection of shapes. It's like he had a smooth, Lexus SC-like trunk on his sedans, then be rested a box on top of them. There is a strong contrast to the shapes, a mismatch, like two different stylists did each half.

The Amanti is flowing. Derivative, though.

On the black Amati I saw this morning I noticed it. It's not as big as the hump on the 7 but it's there. IMHO, I don't find consider it ugly. Then again I really liked the bustle back Seville:

  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Ugh, hideous. Maybe that's what inspired Bangle.

    -juice
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
was inspired by early Rolls Royces (Silver Wrath and/or Silver Dawn?), which had a similar rear end treatment.

    Bob
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Well, they probably had real trunks and then pontoon fenders over the wheels. Or the spare in the back.

When it's functional I can tolerate it. That Seville looks like an amateur welded two different cars together.

You are right Juice it may be 1 second slower than the Forester, but since it's a V8 American motor, the upgrades will be plentiful and easily had. For instance, 20+hp can be had just on intake and exhaust for ~$500-600, let alone cams, Port/polish, Supercharger, etc. Also I bet you were comparing an MT XT v. AT 300, not a fair comparison IMHO.

True mike. An automatic will mate up to the V8 more happily.

But it's not like you can't modify the EJ257 in the F-XT, in fact it might be easier to mod because it's a turbo and parts are available off the shelf.

Magnum is a lot heavier, so you have to do more to get the same improvements.

It better not be anyone here who is outbidding me on those FXT rims!! :furious:
  • p0926p0926 Member Posts: 4,423
Loosh- Why would you want another set of FXT rims?

    -Frank P.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
Well I got so frustrated trying to figure out a reasonable tire solution for 17"s. So I figured I'd grab another set of Forester 16"s (either XS or XT, I wasn't picky) and mount 225/55/16 UHP tires on 'em, and keep the Geolandars for the salty months. Especially since one of my rims is a little scuffed from the accident.
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Well don't get into a bidding war, it will just inflate prices. Wait until the last minute and slide in there with a fair bid.

    Craig
  • p0926p0926 Member Posts: 4,423
Yeah I knew one of your rims was scuffed but personally, I was hoping you'd get a set on 17s and be the test mule to see if 235/50s will fit without rubbing :-)

    -Frank P.
  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
I'm convinced will fit. The carcass width is the same as some other sizes people already report having no problem with, and you can do it on a 17x7.5 rim. But you still only have 3 tire choices, not a one cheaper than $170 each.

It's that 245/45/17 on a 17x8 Torque that has me wondering, but too chicken to try.

So it looks like the SH-AWD will indeed trickle down to lesser Acuras.

Gotta disagree on the modability of a domestic V8 v. the EJ25turbo. They'll have out every concievable bolton for the domestic V8 engine you can think of an significantly quicker than the EJ25turbos, heck you can barely get a chip for the STi right now, let alone at a reasonable price.

So this is funny, I booked myself for the 10:30am event this Friday, but my wife double-booked me. There must be some freebie involved, LOL.

Any how, any locals want to go in her place? Let me know and I'll give you her confirmation number. It's actually for 2 people.

Bob said he probably couldn't, so Loosh? Hutch? Mike Smith? I'd take my lil' bro but he's not 25 so he can't drive.

Say hi to the Bruins on the golf course will ya? Hope they can hit the fairways better than they hit the net this series. Go Habs!!
Watching the Calgary-Vancouver game, and it's a doozie. Don't really have a favourite there, we're equally far from Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver where I am, and I grew up watching games at the Forum live and on TV.

    Nicholas
  • volkovvolkov Member Posts: 1,306
Iginla misses an empty net with 10 seconds left and Vancouver ties it with 5 seconds left.
OK, it's off topic, but wasn't there a hockey theme in the profile?

One of the advantages of pacific time. As a former goalie, had to feel for Auld. Makes two immediate saves and almost makes the third on his back. But Calgary deserved it, they responded every time Vancouver tried to come back. Great game.

Why do I keep turning American. Haven't touched my profile. Am I being hacked? Flying the Stars and Stripes again! Where's my Maple Leaf? Keep having to switch back to Hoserdom, what gives??
