IIRC: at least for the Sprinter, Mercedes research showed that plumbers, florists, carpenters, et al were not interested in driving a Mercedes truck. It was felt that their customers would think they made too much money if they were driving around in trucks with 3 pointed stars. In Europe, MB has a much different connotation than here in North America.

Mike- actually, I wasn't planning on getting race tires, just better street tires. Maybe some Proxxes 4s or P zero neros. Although I think you're right, maybe I'll see what these stock tires can do. Maybe they'll stick a little better once I have worn some tread off of them.
Ed- Why not just get the CXT? How much for a loaded Unimog? ;-)

Yeah, can you say taxi? :-)

Saw a diplomatic car today - a BMW 520i!
Not a typo, 520, as in 2.0l. Europe is a different animal, Bimmers are not always M cars.

(FWIW Juice, raves for the Pug 1007 recently.)
I found this on the Auto Channel web site, so I'm assuming automotive applications are on the way too.
Bob
EE Times ran a story a few weeks back about clustered white/blue high output LED lighting for automotive headlights. They say it is coming, but still a few years off for cars. It just cannot yet compete on price with good old halogens.

Weird, huh?

Not really "old" news, but yes, we've been discussing it over in the Member's thread. It's pretty neat.

My wife would kill me if I attended all the events we get invited to!!
Last weekend was a C&D thing at Gillette Stadium and this weekend is the Love Mercedes event at South Weymouth Naval Air Station - both south of Boston.
The day before the Lexus thing we are having a yard sale, in which I've been drafted for.
Bob
Smart move ;-)

I'm not sure about this, but I believe the Subaru B9SC hybrid sports car concept can run up to 50 mph purely on the electric motor.
Bob
I think it has some COOL features ... no idea on cost if produced ...
I tried to find it on the news site, but could not ... did a search and came up with this ..
http://www.conceptlabvolvo.com/vcc/ycc/
see ya !
This car was shown at one of this year's auto auto shows; NY, I think(?).
I've liked recent Volvos, and this is no exception. You know me, I love to see new ideas presented, regardless of where they came from. I may not agree with all of them, but they're all food for thought, which is good.
Bob
Funny thing about the W8 is if you look, they are discounted, but not as much as Touaregs are, at least at Fitz.
Bad sign for the Touareg?
And I'll have to insert my obligatory "don't go upscale" comment here.
That YCC is definitely an example of a concept, not a production litmus test. I pay less attention to those, to be honest I don't even remember what features it had.
What did you like about it, Brenda?
-juice
storage in the car looks to be practical and well thought out ... I like the way the back seats fold up so that it's easier to set things in the floor (you know how a theater seat looks when you go in a theater? and you push the seat down to sit on it? that's the way the back seats fold up and out of the way ...
I like the way the whole front of the car lifts up and there's not a line for the hood
I like the idea of just sticking the gas nozzle in and not having to deal with a door/cap (and also for the washer fluid
I like the idea of seats, pedals, etc. adjusting for each driver by the remote carried (although I know this isn't just a Volvo thing)
I like the look of the car .. it's very sporty, but also very practical ... just has a nice shape ...
anything else???
PS: It has to have cruise control and Navigation from the factory as well.

C320 sport sedan $38k
diamond black
black leather interior
dvd command nav
factory 6cd
hands free communication
heated front seats
split rear seat
lighting package
sunroof package
total = $47k
Anyone who went to the Mercedes Drive event - did they let you drive a C55? Wishful thinking...should still be fun nonetheless. (going there on 10/17)
-Brian
05 Vette
06 Legacy GT Limited
-mike
The C320 has a 215hp/229lb-ft V6 (3199 cc). The manual transmission is a short throw 6sp
I didn't think of the Legacy since it doesn't *yet* have nav, it's only rumors at this point.
A Vette would suffice as well, but I've got 2 kid seats to think about as well.
-Brian
Maybe the C55 but I bet the street price would still be over $50K. Was looking at the M3 but thats well over $50k too.
