Have you had the early brake wear/ rotor wear problem with coupe? I hope the coupe is different, but here is my sedan story... I had many problems with my G35, but the brake pads/rotor problem tops them all. I was due for front brakes. Quite early IMO but that is another story. The service representative told me, that my rotors are warped and I need to pay to replace the rotors. According to many sources (dealers and Infiniti customer service), most of the G35 require rotor replacement in addition to costly brake job. Infiniti knows about the problem and IS NOT paying for the rotors. Be prepared to buy yourself a new set of rotors for every brake job. And you will need this quite often, to the delight of your local dealer. Unfortunately, I was one of the early victims (buying early and without proper research) and did not expect that the car will be so bug ridden as it is. I would never buy this POS knowing what I know not, but is too late. It is by far the worst car I ever had. For 16 months I have been to a dealer 12 times. Let prospective buyers be aware.

    Gang,

I picked up my G35c last night!! Woohoo!! Based on centraljersey's post: $33,980, $1019.4(VA tax), $96 (registration), $168 (document), my bottom line should be $35,263.4

Last night (Sep. 30), VA Rosanthal called me and they had a red/willow/aero/premium/6MT on the lot. At first they wouldn't budge away from the MSRP. Finally we get down to $36,000 on the phone.

At 7:00PM, I drove to the dealership and saw the red car in front of the door. Then we negotiated couple more hours. Finally I agreed with out of the door price $35,589 since the car has wind deflector, wheel-lock, paint protection, interior protection, and I don't need to wait for the car being built/shipped/ordered.

I agreed with you that *last day of the month* is the best time to go and *get the finance done* first to show them you are serious about the purchase and show them you are able to afford the car.

I am going to sleep in my G35 tonight :)

    Thanks - better late than . . .

And, no - I would not be buying it FOR the gas mileage - but rather in spite of the gas mileage. My concern is more for range rather than absolute mileage. At least it has the same 20 gal. tank as the sedan.
    Cheers,
    - Ray
Still amazed by the 28 (HWY) EPA rating of the new XJ8 Jag - with a 22 gal tank . . .

Does anybody get buzz (High frequency vibration)from the clutch pedal and shift lever when shifting above 3500 RPM? I have 2400 miles on mine.

    Hi,
The salesman said that the coupe driver seat memory (w/ premium package), would only have a
single position memory for drivers seat, and
that the sedan would have 2.
Can any coupe owner please verify this??

      Thanks

I am going on 1 month with my 04 G35 Coupe. I bought it with the Premium Package and do not have any memory settings on the drivers seat??? I failed to see any mention of the feature on Infiniti's site?
  • gpwatfrdgpwatfrd Member Posts: 76
No such thing as drivers seat memory for the G35coupe yet...
  • centraljerseycentraljersey Member Posts: 16
krook1 and spring42, I took possession of my G35 coupe a few days ago and love the car, but I thought it was supposed to have a memory setting for the drivers seat, at least with the premium package, which I have. My car has no such switch. I love the car anyway, although I wish the seat would go just a little lower as I must slouch down a bit so as to fit my 6 foot 2 inch frame into a relatively reasonable driving position. I like the car enough to put up with the slouching.

Looking to purchase a 2003 G35 Coupe but quickly getting confused as Edmunds shows True Market Value prices to be lower on the 2004 when compared to the 2003!

What bottom line price should I offer for a 2003 Coupe w/automatic.

Your comments will be very appreciated either here on the board or by email at L79D@aol.com

    THANKS!

Lidia (onelgs), I think that you will find Consumer Reports Magazine's car report of great value. Not only will it give you the invoice price, but it will reveal certain dealer incentives, etc. It will also outline their opinion as to what profit the dealer should make on your car, that is, the report will help you determine the price that you should be paying. I used it and found the information to be right on the mark and very helpful in buying my G35 coupe with stick shift. You should try learning to use manual transmission as it makes this car a lot of fun to drive. Good luck.
  • onelgsonelgs Member Posts: 38
Which issue of CR are you directing me to? Is it the current edition currently on the shelf? If so, I do have it and will make a point to examine it closer... THANKS for your post and advice. As to manual trans, none of the local area Ohio dealers have a manual 2003.
  • centraljerseycentraljersey Member Posts: 16
Lidia (a/k/a onelgs), every April issue of Consumer Reports is their car issue. You would be doing yourself a favor by seeking out the April, 2003 issue. However, what I was referring to is something altogether different. Consumer Reports has a New Car Price Service. You can see a sample report at www.ConsumerReports.org/carprices/new6, but to get an actual report you can call 1-800-205-2445. The fee is $12 a report and is well worth the investment. Good luck on your search. By the way, I absolutely love driving the G35 coupe with manual. Since most dealers are asking the same price for 2003's as they are for 2004's you might consider looking at the 2004's, that is, unless you can get a really good deal on a 2003.
  • onelgsonelgs Member Posts: 38
Thanks and what would YOU consider a *good* deal on a base model 2003 G35 with dealer's asking price of $29,795 ???

The 2004 has a dealer sticker of $36,000 quite a difference....
  • centraljerseycentraljersey Member Posts: 16
onelgs, don't just listen to me, go get the car report from Consumer Reports and you will readily see the answer to your question. The base invoice price (for the basic 6mt coupe, without any packages) after the $905 holdback is $28,797. The dealer should get a profit of between 4% and 8%. At 4% profit the price of this "basic" car would be $29,949 and at 8% it would be $31,101. If your dealer is offering this car at $29,795, that is LOWER than the least amount of profit Consumer Reports says is fair. Therefore, that offer is much better than the 8% profit I gave to my dealer. What your dealer is offering is apparently a very good deal, but don't take my word for it, go check it out yourself.

Your advice makes we feel great about the deal I negotiated. I should also add that I have a husband that was WILLING to pay more then MSRP just to get this G35! The salesman AND sales manager at Infinity of Columbus were very nice people to work with... I did get a *little* of the *let me ask the manager* but we picked up our black G35 yesterday for a price of $28,795.00 which is $1K below MSRP :)

It IS a gorgeous car and drives like a dream! My only negative is lack of visibility as compared to my MDX :)

Wishing you many miles of happy driving :)

onelgs...a neighbor just picked up his G35 Coupe in black. Stunning car.

The problem I have with Consumer Reports is they want you to pay for pricing advice that is free all over the net (including here at Edmunds). At best, these pricing guides, whether you pay for it from CR or get it free from Edmunds, are a guide. They can give you an idea of what your particular car will sell for, but there's nothing like going to a dealer and making an offer to see if they bite. If 2 or 3 dealers won't make a deal with you, then all hte pricing information in the world is going to make a difference. I've found I can usually make a better deal than CR or Edmunds says I can.

I find that if I do a little research and go to a couple of dealers, which I would do anyway when buying a car, you can pretty much tell what kind of deal you can make in pretty short order without having to pay for it.

Lidia, congratulations! Sounds like you got a nice deal AND a very nice car. As for graficguy's comments, I agree with almost all he said. I, too found most of the information elsewhere on the net, however, I do not recall seeing any mention on the net about the $905 holdback that the dealer gets from the manufacturer on those 2003 G35s. It was Consumer Reports where I saw that. Also, for those who would like something akin to a guidebook for getting that new car, Consumer Reports is a good resource and for relatively little money.

I am close to making a decision about buying a G35 coupe. I live in Toronto and, while we don't get lots of snow most winters, we do get snow every winter. I like the look of the Coupe with the performance package but realize I can't possibly use the performance tires in the winter. If I buy the performance package I assume that I will need to buy extra rims and snow tires. Are there all season radials that I can put on the performance rims? If I use them will I be happy with the performance in moderate snowfalls (1 to 2")?

Alternatively, I can buy the base model with 17" rims and all seasons. My fear is that I will do this and then find out I still need to buy the snows and rims.

I would really appreciate some comments from those who have driven the coupe in the winter in moderately snowy conditions with all season radials.

Speaking of winter driving ... G35 sedan is going to be available with all wheell drive option ... what about G35 Coupe?
  • gambit293gambit293 Member Posts: 406
    Ditto, cynic!

I'm also interested in an AWD G35 coupe. Anyone know anything?
  • blacktalonblacktalon Member Posts: 203
Living in Boston, I'd definitely be interested in an AWD G35 coupe -- as long as it isn't too much heavier than the RWD coupe...
  • revdrluvrevdrluv Member Posts: 417
Isn't the AWD coupe version of this platform going to be the next Skyline?
  • pathstar1pathstar1 Member Posts: 1,015
Only in the sedan for now, and only with the automatic. The reason for automatic only is how the mechanicals work. Go to the Infiniti site and read up. BTW, was in Japan this summer. The Infiniti G35 is the Nissan Skyline (saw a few of them ;-). I presume the AWD version will be the Skyline GTR. Was hoping for more power in that model. Perhaps the reason the coupe is not available in AWD yet is it will also come with a supercharger or something next year, and THAT will be the Skyline GTR.

    We can only hope!

Question 1: Which look better, a G35 Coupe with or with out spoiler? Please give opinion.

Question 2: Does the spoiler and rear underbody diffusers (Aero Package) really enhance performance? Do you really need them to fully utilize the full potential of this vehicle? G35 drivers without aero package, please comment? Thank you.
  • das7083das7083 Member Posts: 10
let's be real- it only make the car look better. unless you're Mario Andretti doing 180+ mph, spoilers on production cars are rarely functional. However, after being in the market an dfinally getting the G 6mt, it will be very difficult to find one without at least part of the aero package (if you're looking 6mt).
  • revdrluvrevdrluv Member Posts: 417
I really don't like the spoiler design on the g35. The underbody aero kit is good looking, but that oddly shaped wing has got to go. The lines of the G are sweeping, forcefull and even elegant. The wing is strange, squat and round and completely ruins an otherwise attractive rump. It looks like Infiniti snatched it from a Pontiac parts bin. I am not usually as bothered by spoiler designs as some others on this site, but this one is so off that it really irks me.
  • dtran2149dtran2149 Member Posts: 81
I also am not a fan of the G35 spoiler. It doesn't flow well with the rest of the car's shape. I think it makes the car age less well. I think a smaller, more subtle lip spoiler might be more attractive on the G35.
  • pathstar1pathstar1 Member Posts: 1,015
The rear spoilers rarely do much at speeds you can drive on public roads, unless they're ridiculously huge. Looks mostly. Front spoilers (sometimes called a chin spoiler) often help reduce front lift at speeds exceeding 100 km/hr (approx. 60 MPH). They are in danger in parking lots however. The underbody aero packages do the most good, often without increasing drag. Especially the rear diffuser.

I find it funny that most modern cars are more aerodynamic going backwards than forwards. Aero is done for looks mainly. Streamlining at the rear is much more effective at reducing drag than at the front. Think of the shape of a raindrop. At least that's what I was taught in school.
  • chrisbothchrisboth Member Posts: 493
It may only take a few pounds of pressure (theres not much airlflow at the spoiler area anyway) since the car is already very lift free thanks to the underbody diffusers and design flow. This is not a FWD car with a huge wing here...it actually works..and the car is very stable at very high speeds so it prob doesnt hurt it. Your right tho the streamline design should be a good one before the spoiler is added to really make a difference.
  • kfhmailkfhmail Member Posts: 199
I do not like the current spoiler either...and I would like to see a different design like a "lip" spoiler.

On the new 04 Acura TL you have a choice of both "types" of spoilers.

    hello all...

I've just come into the market and have been doing quite a bit of research on cars for the past couple of months.. originally I was looking at either a G35 sedan (5at,premium,leather) or an Jag X... yet my friends brought up some good points for one i'm 20 and getting a coupe with a stick suites me for my age better, mind you I've never driven stick befor but I'm begining to look into it more... mind you I'm planning so far at least on leasing the car, since it will be done through my company. I'm also begining to like the whole aspect of adding things to the car such as superchargers, body molding ect... I love the sedan and it fits my purpose yet even the two door since its the 2+2 setup would work for my girlfriend and I, as well as myfriends... anyone have any suggestions as to what I should try or do,, and also has anyone had luck with negotiating prices on an 03 coupe 6mt with just leather thankyou very much
  • das7083das7083 Member Posts: 10
Personally, I think you should definitely go for the coupe 6mt. At your age, you'll enjoy it like you wouldn't believe (any age for that matter). I've owned both the sedan and coupe, but prefer the coupe's more aggressive nature and stance. Honestly, as nice as the sedan was when I owned it- I would get sick every time I saw the coupe on the road knowing that I passed it up because I wanted a little more room. For what and for who? I have friends but no kids. 95% of the time it's just me driving around. 100% of the time it's me paying the note. Even when I do carry other passengers, there's ample enough space- especially compared to other sports coupes that I've owned. Don't pass up the opportunity to get a great car.
You're seriously considering a Jag? Are you sure you're 20? Look at quality ratings and resale value.
As far as getting an 03 model-good luck. The demand is still high for coupe although it's starting to fall just slightly. When I checked in my area-NYC metro-no such luck.

I have had my G35 coupe for six months and 8K miles. I have had several small issues that the dealer has fixed over the months, but the latest is a bet troublesome. Two weeks after a new fuel sensor to correct gague problems, my car died in a parking lot. Seems that a safety recall on fuel lines for the G35 Sedan had not been applied to the coupe. Anyone out there with similar problems? Infinity is fixing it but I can think of many places I have traveled in the last six months that a fuel line problems could have been near-life threatening.
  • chrisbothchrisboth Member Posts: 493
Make sure you look at the lastest deals only in your comparison efforts as the residuals for the car have improved dramatically in just the recent few weeks.

    Good luck!

I live in toronto and I am in process of making a deal for a 6mt coupe with cars4u. They are an internet based operation but own 2 dealersips and are a spin off of a 30 year old leasing company. You can get a direct quote at their site and once you contact one of their reps they better it a bit . Ive been quoted $3,015.00 off msrp for a 2004 , which from what I have seen appears to be a very good price. The rep arranged for a test drive for me at a local dealer and will be coming to my office next week to give me a qoute on my trade in. If there is no low ball on the trade in I will make my deal. This is of course easier to do as they are located in Toronto but they sell over the net throughout canada ( not sure about U.S.)
Has anyone on this board had any experience with cars4u. I'll keep you posted on my experience but would love to hear from anyone who has bought a car from them previosly.

I am a proud owner of a 04 coupe. I noticed a small flaw with the painting of the door jams. If you look at the front fender panel between the door jams you will notice a section that is not painted properly. It is more evident with the darker colors.I have returned to the dealer ship and examined other cars and found the same problem. I pointed it out to the Manager and he told me "you can't see it anyway " my responce is I have a 300M that has perfectly painted door jams why should I not expect that out of my 30K + vehicle. For you owners that would be interested in pursuing Infinity to at least aknowledge the minor defect. Post your comments on this web site hopefully they will read it and correct the problem.
  • chrisbothchrisboth Member Posts: 493
I hope that Infiniti ignores this problem and focuses thier energy on more reasonable or safety oriented issues. It may be corrected in manufacturing from some point forward but dont expect a fix. If this is all that is wrong with your car you have a helluva a car....like me.

I got a nice price from them for G35 sedan last spring, but Infiniti of Yorkville sold the car to me for 375 less.
  • cjs2002cjs2002 Member Posts: 341
Well I decided that I'm going to get the G35 coupe, I like it a little better than the sedan, and I like how the rear seat set up is. I took my girlfriend with me to test drive one, she loves it (she owns a 03 5 series that she somehow got at an unbelievable price... only had 5K on it) anyways she drives stick but her beamer is an auto, she wants me to get the 6 speed so she can have a stick to drive... I told her on two conditions, 1. if you teach me 2. if i get to drive your 5 series.... she hasn't told me one way or another yet but I know she'll teach me stick... I just don't know if I'm gonna like the constant shifting, then again I dont do much in city driving and I don't get stuck in stop and go traffic so it might be fun... now I just need to look at the price
  • mbednorzmbednorz Member Posts: 63
I'd say "go for the stick", especially if you don't do stop-and-go driving. Unfortunately for me, my daily commute is deep in the heart of Houston. But my consolation is the terrific manual shifting capability of the 5 speed AT on my coupe. Not a bad compromise. I think you'll be happy either way.

I've been extremely happy with my coupe for the last 6 months. Hope you will be, too.

I'm hearing that prices on the coupe can be had for about $2000 under MSRP in some parts of the country right now. Good luck!

Can you tell me when the 2005 model will be on sale, and if the rumor about a new interior is true?

  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
according to a reliable dealer on another forum, he is the one who told us the interior will be new. There was a Forbes article yesterday that implied the 05 G MIGHT be in NYC auto show in April (that has not been confirmed yet). If true, it would probably go on sale in the fall at the normal time. no mention of an early release.

Years ago I had a Vette & experienced the same issue as others complained about with Audi's at that time. It accelarated while brakeing. Now some are complaining that their G35's are doing the same thing. Audi spent millions & never resolved the issue. I changed my shoes & didn't have the problem again. When I put the same shoes back on, that I had on the 1st time I experienced accelaration while braking, the problem returned. Try changing your shoes. It might help.
  • wibblewibble Member Posts: 569
The 2005 G35 Coupe and Sedan will both have totally re-worked interiors. What they wil be like, no one outside of Nissan knows, but they will be radically different from the current models. The cars should be on sale September / October 2004.

Looked at the G35C at the auto show last night, and couldn't figure out how to open the trunk. Is there only a button on the key fob?
  • bobb2111bobb2111 Member Posts: 7
On The G35 there's a latch on the lower left side of the dash. It can be locked out by a button in the glove compartment. When that button is activated the only way to unlock the trunk is with the key fob.
