engine seems to have plenty of torque to me...i'd like to see it run about 2500 rpm while going at 80 mph down the road. would probably help the so-so gas mileage...
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
if you select fully automatic, the a/c compressor will cycle intermittently...unless it's too cold outside. that's pretty normal in most of today's vehicles. and not necessarily a bad thing because the a/c compressor running every once in a awhile will help keep the system's seals from drying out.

but, like someone else mentioned...if you don't want the compressor to cycle...just hit the a/c button to turn it off, the rest of the climate system will continue to operate in automatic mode.

    Score one for Nissan/Infiniti, then.

In the Toyota/Lexus, on auto, the compressor is on, end of story, unless you deselect.

In general, though, I don't use auto. I find my comfort zone is never a constant, and therefore setting and forgetting just doesn't work for me.

There's a brand-spankin' new 07 in Laser with Wheat in the parking lot here, with shiny-clean SSR GT-10s at four corners and the paper dealer insert still in the rear frame. Smokin' hot, and can't be more than a week old.

Three nice gravel spots on the nose...

Don't tell him (her). No sense in spoiling the mood for a new owner.

Roll (3 spots down; 57 to go over the next 3 months) :(

Edit: Probably should have said, Look on the bright side, the rear deck lid will probably never have a gravel spot.

New tranny is hooked up and I'm back in the seat again. By the way, there is no doubt, the sedan seat is wider than the Coupe. I was comfortable in the sedan but the second I got into the Coupe I felt the pressure of the seat control panel on my right thigh.

Car shifts fine although I thought I picked up a bit of an affirmative bump into 3rd from 2nd this morning. We'll see over the next week or two if it's really gone; maybe the new tranny will develop the same problem. Hope not. If anyone can bring out the problems it may be me, (Infiniti may put me on a "Do not sell to" list.) Do Dealers share those lists?

Funny; when I picked up my G35 Coupe the guy with the M45 that had the same problem, (and also just got a new transmission), was standing at the counter going over his invoice for the tranny, ($4,000). We were both covered under warranty of course. He apparently did not know a Coupe was in with the same problem and seemed concerned that we might have the same transmission. Service tech stated they were not identical. I'll bet the differences are not significant; mounting brackets, etc.

The tranny and test results were headed back to Infiniti for analysis by the engineering folks who were interested in trying to sort out the problem Dealer said. I bet so at $4 K a pop.

    Roll,

It frustrates me to see this is still on going with so many people. I have the 06 Coupe 6MT and have been having problems since 200 miles I now have 8000 and am miserable with the car. They replaced the transmission and clutch at 1200 miles and said the bearings were hitting too hard. I have taken it in 4 times since (only 2 they documented in the computer I found out) because it still shudders in first gear, has the hard upshift between 2nd and 3rd, and once warm the knocking noise is SOOO loud unless you push the clutch in that you think something is actually just going to fall out from under the car. One dealer told me nothing was wrong and sent me on my way, the second did the replacing. They had another with the same prob the same day and they know it is an issue BUT THEY CAN"T SEEM TO FIX IT! They do something though because it will stay quiet for a day or 2 and then it comes back. I have contacted ICA and have ANOTHER appointment on Friday. I have already contacted a lemon law attorney (which most people don't realize are FREE they get paid by the auto manufacturers) as well. So we will see what happens. It is now starting to have problems with the windows (won't go up once down) and the memory seats aren't working.....Please keep us posted. For the record the invoice on my trany and clutch work totalled 9k!
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
Sorry to hear you are having problems.

I don't think they are related to the issue I had though since I have an automatic. Just the same, if your argument is general product quality you may have a point. I have to add however, I really like the car and other than annoying seat controls and this tranny issue my car has been trouble free.

my '06 automatic coupe does sometimes "bump" when going from 1st to 2nd or from 2nd to 3rd...but only when it's cold outside (like lower than 10F) and tranny hasn't warmed up yet.
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
Automatic transmission was replaced in my 2006 Coupe with a new complete unit.

New tranny does the same thing...... bangs into gear when manually shifted from 2nd to 3rd. The thump is not quite the window rattler the first tranny was but I suspect it'll get there after a few miles.

    Humph.

Advised Dealer, he has contacted Infiniti, no response yet.

    roll,

sorry i haven't kept up with your issues. are you saying that your tranny only shifts hard when in manual mode...otherwise it's fine in automatic mode??
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
Basically yeah. It's only the 2nd to 3rd upshift that bangs into gear. And only in manual mode, (though the dealer said they got the 2-3 shift to bang in automode too).

Auto shift is fine, downshifts are fine. But when it bangs into gear the windows rattle.

I love my new G35 Coupe - still grin like an idiot, even when in stuck in the snow. I wondered though if anyone has had this problem - after a day of my car sitting in the snow, I came out to see that both of my windows were rolled down halfway (and snow swirling in my car).

Has anyone had this problem? I'm scheduled for my 3-month maintenance in a few weeks. Thanks much!

I bought my red coupe new in 9-05. Last December I noticed water spots the size of quarters over the hood, top and trunk. Had the car detailed by a very reliable detailer here, but the spots returned the next day. My appraiser says it's a comprehensive claim; the insurance company says NO. The dealership is no help either. They just tell me to have a wet sand done. Anyone else have a problem with water spots or suggestions for me?
  • yellowcaryellowcar Member Posts: 46
The presumed waterspots may not actually be that but rather a delamination of the clearcoat (ask me how I know! ;) ). Several on the board have had significant paint-related problems with the red cars.

Search the message archives for my handle to get a full history (hint: our car was re-purchased under :lemon: law provisions). I also recommend you take your car to a well-qualified paint shop that handles high-end jobs and ask for a professional evaluation before you do any wet sanding and before you escalate to Infiniti.

    Good luck.

I don't want to sound like an [non-permissible content removed], but my dealer didn't tell me about a feature with the windows on my 2005 G35 coupe. May be yours didn't tell you either.

If you press and hold the unlock button along with the doors unlocking the windows come down halfway. If you hold the button down longer longer then windows come down completely.

May be when you walked out of your house you held the unlock button longer than normal and the windows opened just while you were walking out the door ? Unless you saw there was a lot of snow in the car since the windows were open for an extended period of time. :(

    Hope this helps.

    Ouch!

I hate to say it, but having succumbed to this condition before myself, though not to such an extent, the cure is now, and always has been, a one-time dose of RTGDM.

Rx: Read The Gol Durned Manual

I hope there wasn't any damage, other than a cold tushy!

I was looking for an entry level luxury coupe and decided to go with the G35 one. I live in NE and the dealer was very adamant that I should go with the AWD sedan version if I want to drive the car all year long. He argues that any G35 coupe including one with automatic transmission and snow tires will be out of use for at least 2 months a year in the NE weather. Is this correct? Is the only G35 relevant for 365 days drive in NE is the AWD one?

    Thanks!
  • kdshapirokdshapiro Member Posts: 5,751
You can get away with RWD and all-seasons, I did it. However, it was a little painful at times. I would not recommend this though.

Dedicated snow tires and/or rims or AWD are your real choices in snowy climates. In my mind the advantages of AWD outweigh the performance degradation that occur due to the weight.

    hey gang,

recently i've noticed some sqeaking/creaking coming from my seat-back when i move around in the seat. any of you notice this in your car? not a big deal, but kinda annoying on a 35k automobile. i can't remember the last time i had a vehicle with a creaky seat!
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
My transmission, along with the other one (from an M), were sent to Japan. The US techs were disappointed since they wanted to work on them but the techs in Japan trumped 'um. Dealer says they now have another M with the same problem; but no G35’s other then mine. Story of my life.

New tranny is also banging into 3rd from 2nd but not as hard now, nor as frequently. Dealer says they will do whatever is needed if it gets any worse.

Was in for a wheel alignment and drove a G35 sedan for the day. I swear, the seat controls on the right bolster are no issue in the sedan. I repeat, they don't bother me a bit in the sedan. In my coupe however, they are intrusive. I feel the pressure of the plastic control panel on my right thigh all the time.

Now what could be the difference? Could folks get a swap on the drivers seat from a sedan and solve the problem?

I have a 2006 G35 Coupe with about 12500 miles on the odo.

Car is developing a new brake symptom. When I release the brakes, as at a traffic light, they grunt as they let go. Don't know how else to describe it. It's as if the calipers stick a bit when the rotors start to turn and then let go.

No other sounds or symptoms. No grinding, pulling, pulsing, squeaking, or spongy pedal.

    Roll

    The grunting is annoying though.
  • ruthiebruthieb Member Posts: 7
The brakes on these cars suck. I have 40 thousand on mine and have already had the brakes replaced and they are making noise again already. Sister's car has 90 thousand and she has had hers done a couple of times. And in the mean time my red paint just keeps flaking off.

Mine make a "Thunk" (like the brake caliper hangs) when it rains or very heavy moisture in the air. However, no other symptoms as roolbar said.

However, the "Thunk" is truely annoying. (I love all the Onomatopoeia!) :shades:
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
mine too...that is my brakes only thunk when they are wet.

Have you had any progress in solving your paint problems through Infiniti? I have had the problem with chippng paint on the hood. Infiniti says it is from rocks which is not the case. I am contacting attorneys to file a suit against Infiniti and would like to know if you have made any progress. This is a world wide problem and Infiniti should be punished for not handling this honestly with their customers. Please email me if you have any info you can share with me. Thanks, Mark

No, I have not. After many phone calls and letters and talking to representatives, they refused.
The paint still chips badly. It has taken the fun out of owning the car.
Mechanically it is great. I was at the dealership a few weeks ago and they know my complaints well. They went out of their way to tell me the new paint Infiniti is using is better, which to me was an admission of the poor quality.
However, I have given up.I will never buy another Infiniti or Nissan again and I have steered many people away from buying this brand. In Canada we do not have a "lemon law".

Probably a silly question but my dealership can't answer it for me. I have a 2005 G35 Coupe 6MT and there is a REV gauge at the top of the instrument panel that has NEVER been on even once until yesterday. It now has a flashing bright RED light that I guess is supposed to tell you when to shift gears but is VERY irritating and quite distracting seeing a flashing RED light in my drivers field of vision.

This has never once been on in 3 years now. How on earth do I get this to go off? There isn't any mention of this in the owners manual and dealership isn't sure why it came on just now after 36 months of ownership nor how to get it to go off.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
    I have an 07 Sedan, and it's not a manual, so I don't have a REV light.
I did a little digging around though and found that that light is programmable. I believe it's set by default to 8,000 RPMs and this may be why you have never seen it.
It may be set, who knows how, to a lower value now and this is why it's on and driving you crazy.
All of the posts I have found on various sites in regards to the REV light say that the instructions for setting it are in the manual.
I don't have the manual, so you're gonna have to dig that info out yourself.

    Hope this helps!

Hi guys I might sound like an idiot when i post this but i recently just bought a 04 g35 coupe automatic haha i know not stick wtf right... I was wondering what should i upgrade to my car to make it sounds extremly nice and add a little bit of HP...
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
Short of dropping some serious dough, most add-ons will only offer slight increases in HP.
I'd suggest a Stillen exhaust and possibly a cold air intake (CAI) for the sound you're looking for.

Don't worry about the automatic thing... nobody's perfect. ;)

Hi, just bought a 04' G35 coupe AT, some questions that I likely could find in this thread, but would take days

-what appears to be a tire warning gauge has been lit up ever since I bought the car last month, it looks like the omega sign, low tires? traction warning?

-I read that the body on the g35 isnt so good, should i be protecting from rust?

-all the functions on the rear view mirror, i know one set of buttons are for garage door openers, anyone know if these are hard to program, what are the other functions for?

-any recommendations/advice from the winter drivers out there?
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
If the warning light is like an upside down omega sign, then yes, that's a low tire pressure warning. Look closely at the picture on that light, it's actually a tire with low pressure causing the sides to bulge out, with an exclamation point in the middle of it.

The body not being good... new to me. I know that some of the paint colors were worse than others with how they held up to chips and contamination. I suggest taking care of the finish. Clay and wax... just keep it protected and you'll be fine.
I work with a guy here who has an 03 Coupe (Black) and it still looks great.

The rearview mirror has homelink buttons on it. It's fairly easy to set it up. Follow the instructions in the manual for programming it. I have an 07 so the minor details may be slightly different.
Basically, you program the mirror using your door opener remote. You then put the opener into learn mode and hit the button on the mirror... the instructions are in the manual.
If you need, I can post the instructions from the 07 manual. Not sure if it would help or not.

Winter drivers have 2 options with a Coupe...
    1) Winter Tires and some caution.
    2) Garage

My friend at work has a Toyota Tacoma and garages his in the winter.
No matter WHO tells you different, they are tough in the snow.

Ping back if you have more questions, or need help with the Homelink.

I just purchased a 2008 G37 Coupe and love it so far. As I figure out all the gadgets I had a few questions on the use of the phonebook.

    1. How do you delete and/or modify a phone book entry? If I click on an existing entry, it immediately dials the number.

    2. How do you add a voicetag to an existing phonebook entry. I didn't add a voicetag when I first loaded some of the entries into the phonebook.

    3. How do you enter a "pause" in a phone number? I would like to include my work voicemail and password but I need to enter a pause between dialing the phone number to retrieve vmails and entering my credentials.

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Larry...
Congrats on the new car and welcome to the forum.
That's a good looking car. In fact, I just bought a set of G37 wheels for my G35x.

I believe all of these can be done through the settings -> phone section. Once there, you can add or edit voicetags and modify phonebook entries.
I believe there is a way to add pauses to phone numbers as well, but I'd have to get out to the car and play around to be sure.

that eco-friendly paint. No volatile organic compounds, but no stick either. At least it's more prone to orange peel. :D;)

It's true that the red seems to be significantly worse than the other colors on the G.

I have a red Honda (Acura) with red paint and so far (knocks on wood) so good, over 8K miles and four months, including a several-thousand-mile high-speed road trip.

Personally i believe this redesign is tragic. Infiniti really messed up an otherwise near perfect G35 Coupe. The interior is very feminine and fraught with gaudy appointments, the exterior is a horrible mash up of confusing shapes. I fail to see what the design team was trying to accomplish. The previous model G35 Coupe was sleek and taught with absolutely gorgeous lines. Clean and graceful. possibly the only thing it lacked was an ipod dock to the sound system. the interior was sleek and visually clean. Navigation went to hide away and made for a less distracting environment. What were they thinking? Did i see a chrome edge on the spoiler? How girlie do they want to make this coupe? It went from killer gorgeous to pug ugly.

Hi, I am a college student looking into buying a used G35 coupe (03-06). Currently, I have a mustang but I'm ready for a change. If you would answer my questions below, I would greatly appreciate it.
    1. How much does it usually cost to fill up the gas tank at todays current gas prices--$4.00/ gallon?
    2. How many gallons of gas does the coupe hold?
    3. Is it very expensive to take this car to the shop for maintenance, oil changes, etc? Since this is a foreign car, would the techs at Wal-Mart do an oil change or do you have to take it to an Infiniti dealer?
    4. How realiable is the cars in terms of not having to take it to the shop very often? I don't have the time, patience, or money to take this car in and out of the shop
    6. Is it a practical car for a college student who doesn't want to spend alot of money on a car (pmts and up keep)?

Any answer to these questions will be greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing your responses
  • raizelgsraizelgs Member Posts: 84
I just filled up this AM at 4.45 per gallon. = $65
    Tank hold 16.5 gallon total.
Oil changes are normal price. I bought lifetime oil changes from my dealer for $300. I change the oil every 3750 miles. You do not have to use the dealer.
My car (2005 coupe - sport suspension - automatic) has never been to the dealer for any maintenance other than oil changes and wiper blades. - 40,000 miles.
Practical depends on what you pay for it. Tires are expensive and do not last long. If you live in cold climates, you will need winter tires and summer tires. All seasons are not great in heavy snow and ice.

I think it is a great car.
