Okay, here's the stuff....some pics of the 2006 Ivory. Hope the link works.

I recently went into a pothole which was right next to a sewer grate and scratch my 19" oem rims. I found one site that shows you how to bondo, sand, prime, paint and clearcoat it but does anyone know the color of the 19" rims. Thanks
  • murrowmurrow Member Posts: 72
I recently and unfortunately wrecked my '05 coupe. Among the damage was a scraped-up OEM rim. I talked to two body shops before having the car fixed, and both said they had people they contracted with to fix rims. I ended up going with my dealer's shop. It took 3 tries, but the people they outsourced the job to eventually got it to the point that I'm satisfied. My point is, if you ask at a couple of body shops or at your dealer, I'm sure there's someone who can help. Good Luck!

Great pictures and beautiful wheels, thanks for posting. Actually, it was you who turned me on to PPBB. I am now a regular visitor there too.

    Thanks!

You know, I'm not normally a fan of color on a wheel, but that's a tasteful execution there Roll. Very nice indeed.

You did follow my cardinal rule: real wheels have five spokes...

Is hypersilver the correct color for my rims? Does anyone know where i can find it.

The last couple of years have been unusual to say the least. Three children at driving age, and business changes requiring different vehicles. I do not intend for the trend to continue. :)

I drive an O6 G35 Coupe 6MT with roughly 6500 miles on it. I've noticed that at the very top of the the clutch pedal travel (i.e., just as I begin to push it down and just before I release it), the clutch (perhaps the pressure plate?) feels "rough", almost like it's chattering. With the pedal fully depressed, everything is smooth. It only feels this way just before release, or just after application. It is more pronounced at higher speeds (and RPMs). Also, sometimes when downshifting from 5th or 6th gear, it almost feels as if the clutch is popping. I came into the G35 from a 2003 BMW 325XI, and never felt anything but smoothness from the transmission. Is this behavior normal for Infinite/Nissan manual transmissions, or is there something wrong? Anyone else experience this?

As compared to the 2005 Coupe.

Seems like it according to my "seat of the pants" meter.

Hard to believe but here's the story.

1750 miles old now, I'm cruising down the local beltway at 60 following a pickup truck; maybe 4 to 5 car lengths back.

A piece of what I thought was paper flies up from the trucks tires ahead and floats in the air spinning. It was a soda can squashed flat, in a flat spin. It turned on edge just as I got to it. It hit the hood just in front of the windshield and bounced off, over the roof where I heard it hit again and then it was gone. It was the spinning edge that struck the hood, I can't say how it hit the top or if it hit the sun roof or paint. I sat there stunned for a minute and then started to think about what it did to the fragile paint on these Infiniti's.

As soon as I hit the parking lot I got out and examined the hood and the roof. Not a single mark anywhere I can find. Amazing. The Red would have had paint gouges down to the sealer everywhere the can touched. I am really surprised. At the time it looked to be a metal can but I suppose it might have been a paper cup container squashed flat, (although the object made a resounding bump when it hit).

Maybe the Ivory is just tougher paint than the red.

so far i haven't noticed any issues with my obsidian black coupe. has black been one of the better colours??
  • xthecatxthecat Member Posts: 30
I have a Black 2003, and the paint issue has never come up. I do have a bunch of small chips on my hood, but that is standard stuff following trucks on the highway.
  • murrowmurrow Member Posts: 72
My Ivory '05 has 7,400 miles and a bunch of knicks/chips from just normal driving. If I'd had the experience you describe I think there would have been a nasty mark left behind. Maybe the '06 paint is better????
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
Well, I've had more time and a better look now. The can hit the clear bra not the painted surface. It left an abraded spot on the clear plastic about the size of a match head. No paint damage though. Then the mark on the roof was over the passengers side rather than over my seat as I first thought. There was a long line running from the windshield to the sunroof but I was able to rub it off with a little bit of very fine polishing solution.

I do have a single small chip on the rubber bumper that shows as black. I plan to stick a bit of Ivory paint in the spot. Otherwise my brand new car still looks brand new. lol

    guys,

quick question. did your cars come with valve stem caps? my '06 with 17in wheels does not have them. when i leased the car, i didn't think about looking at the other cars on the lot to see if they had em'. just wondering if when they prepped my car they forgot to put on the valve stem caps ... :(

    thanks...
  • carjimcarjim Member Posts: 155
My '06 Coupe came with the valve stem caps that require the little wrench to remove them. I have the stock 17" wheels and Bridgestone tires.
  • murrowmurrow Member Posts: 72
    so did my '05.

I recently purchased a 2003 Infiniti G35 Sedan. It has approx. 30K miles on it now. I am getting about 280 miles out of a 20 gallon tank of gas. Translation, this car gets 14 miles to the gallon!!! Unbelievable. I am using the 91 octane (most expensive!) and I drive like a granny. Biggest gas pig I have ever come across. I contacted Infiniti headquarters previously regarding my squeaky brakes and they are worthless. I think they only give you attention if you serve them with a lawsuit. I think I am going to sell this car and buy a toyota hybrid. I guess auto manufacturers can just make up the MPG figures they post on a car's window. If this car gets 18/25 mpg then I'm a flying purple elephant.
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
I have an 05 G35x. On the highway I get between 24-26 MPG. Over and over again ( I have 17K now ). Try changing the air filter. Has all the maintenance been done to the car? It is not Infiniti's responsibility to guarantee a certain gas mileage. Have the car looked at, they are wonderful to drive :)
  • raizelgsraizelgs Member Posts: 84
I have a 2005 G35 Coupe. I get a consistent 20 mpg in mixed highway-city driving. I do not drive like a granny. When I took the car on a long road-trip, I averaged 25 mpg and had several tanks where I got over 26 mpg.

You car probably needs a serious tune-up.

please forgive me for being ignorant, but whats a Valve Stem Cap ? :confuse:
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
valve stems are where you put air into the tires. my car came with no caps and i just noticed it the other day. i'm waiting to hear back from my salesman. i think they forgot to put them on when they prepped the car!
  • wbr99wbr99 Member Posts: 51
    thanks emale.

I got Valve stem caps with my 2005 G35 Coupe.
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
I'm getting 18 to 20 in a new coupe (2006) and it's not even really broken in yet. I definately don't drive like a granny.

Caps are cheap. Should be on the stems when you take delivery but could have been missed. Also could have been taken by a twelve year old motoring affectionado. ;)

You can probably find 4 black rubber ones lying around any air pump but if not, any automotive section at discount stores will have an assortment.

    Tee hee:

When I upgraded rims and rubber on a previous car, the tire shop put on these little chrome hex-topped stem caps. At the time, I noticed them in an off-hand manner and thought "whatever".

Then two of them got removed in a parking lot, and I found myself looking for replacements, which I found at, of all places, the carwash gift shop.

Call it affectation, vanity, stupidity or a combo, I now routinely swap out the plain ones for the little chrome ones.
  • maximafanmaximafan Member Posts: 592
I did the same thing after trying out those
caps that have the red/green indicator for
low pressure in the tire. Those were a
waste of time. On one of them, the see-
through plastic broke off and my tire
started leaking air (Did not realize this
at the time). I had gone to a job and when
I pulled into the parking lot, steering
wheel felt funny. Got out and checked the
tires, and sure enough, the right front tire
was totally flat. The AAA guy told me it
was because of the broken plastic on the
pressure reader. Went to the autoparts
store and bought the chrome-type stem caps.
    They look nice!

I was in the market for a sporty vehicle a few months ago and looked at most of the options on the market priced below $60,000. I ended up getting a Honda S2000, but I had to admit the styling of the G35 coupe was amazing. I even considered getting one in black in addition to the S2000, but realized I probably wouldn't drive the G35 if I also had the S2000 in the driveway.

My search naturally took me to see the Nissan 350ZX but I just couldn't get past the disjointed styling. The 350ZX is hideous! How can a company that produces a design as classic as the G35 coupe also release something as crass as the 350ZX? Who is buying those things? It will be interesting to see how this design ages - I'll bet people will be calling this the worst looking "Z" ever made. I remember reading the styling critique of the 350ZX written by (I believe) Automobile Magazine's design editor a couple of years ago and it seemed obvious that he was struggling to say something complimentary. Unfortunately, like the Z4 (and most other recent BMWs) I think manufacturers are going to find that "challenging" designs are ultimately rejected by the public. I wouldn't be surprised to hear that more people buy the 350ZX in spite of (rather than because of) the styling.

What do G35 owners think of the 350ZX styling? How many people chose a G35 coupe over the 350ZX because they hated the latter's styling?
  • maximafanmaximafan Member Posts: 592
I have to agree with you that the 350Z is
not near as pretty as the G35 coupe, but the
funny thing is, everytime one comes up near
me, I just love the sweet exhaust sound on
that car and I start to rethink my opposition
to going back to a two-door car and say to
my self, "But I can get that sweet-sounding
engine and the pretty looks on the G35 coupe!

I keep trying to resist the Coupe, but time
    will tell, time will tell.
  • raizelgsraizelgs Member Posts: 84
Z car styling is not bad, but the coupe is just smoother. I bought a 2005 black automatic with the sport-tuned suspension. The car is beutiful. Every morning when I open my garage door, I have to smile. :)

Has anyone seen the DuPont car care commercial on TV where they use a black G35 as their model? The car make is not obvious, but the wheels gave it away.

My wife and I are in the market for a replacement for my 2004 GTO that is going back in Sept (end of SmartBuy period). This is a third vehicle for us, and is not a "daily driver" but more a weekend/fun car. She has always been in love with the G35 coupe looks and, although not initially impressed, the styling has grown on me. We test drove a new 2006 G35 coupe yesterday (base wheels and tires, premium package, auto) and while it was, on whole, a positive experience, we both have questions about a few, shall we say, "problems." My only gripe is lack of headroom (I'm 6-3). This, I believe, could be solved by merely buying a non-sunroof equipped car. Her problems are harder to fix. Primary complaint is the shoulder harness cutting into her neck (she is 5-8). We spent quite some time adjusting the seat every way possible and just couldn't find a comfortable position for her. Her second gripe was with the exhaust drone. At a steady 60 mph, there is a distinct, and to her, irritating, drone of exhaust noise. I guess my question to those on this thread is: anyone else notice these things and, if so, could provide any solution? This is my wife's "dream car" and she was SO disappointed. I told her that the dream never measures up to the reality, and that there is no such thing as the "perfect" car.
  • murrowmurrow Member Posts: 72
Unless you plan to buy a completely base model (like mine), I'm afraid it's going to be very hard to find one without a sunroof. Even the coupes that have only a couple of options usually have a sunroof.
  • murrowmurrow Member Posts: 72
There are a couple of things I really hate about the 350Z. The main one is the view of the rear end. It's really "fat" back there, and I hate the positioning on the turn signals. I also don't like the giant silver door handles. Door handles should blend in, not stick out like a sore thumb.

I considered the Z when I bought the G35C, and the styling was the single-biggest factor that steered me to the G.

Personally, I think the '84-'89 Zs were the ugliest and lamest in Z history. The 1990s-era twin turbo was awesome.
  • maximafanmaximafan Member Posts: 592
I just saw an Ivory Pearl Coupe this
morning at the Infiniti dealer in Tampa,FL
    and it didn't have a sunroof. I don't
believe it had the premium package either,
so it was probably a base model.
  • murrowmurrow Member Posts: 72
Sounds like it was probably just like mine -- Ivory/Wheat base model. Mine only has dealer-installed XM and the trunk mat.

I was at the dealer yesterday too. The only 2 they had without sunroofs were base. I was actually surprised they had 2 base models in stock. When I bought mine last year, it was one of only 2 base models in all of Florida, and it was 2 counties away.
  • white6white6 Member Posts: 588
is included in premium package, so, yes, it would have to be a base model. Salesman didn't seem to think it would be that big a deal to get me one without sunroof. I prefer the wood trim and would like to have the memory seats, but it's not a deal-breaker to do without those features (or the other options included in premium package). Anyone else have a problem with the shoulder harness or exhaust noise?
  • mickeyveemickeyvee Member Posts: 12
Believe it or not, the drone you hear is intentional! They wanted to give the car the sound of a "throaty sportscar, not a quiet, pristine luxury car. also on the seats see my post...Message #2440 2006 Seats are Tight? by mickeyvee I'm only 5' 8". 1 1/2 months later, I still feel a little snug.
  • joshknotjoshknot Member Posts: 22
I've had a 2006 G35 coupe for about 4 months now, and I can sympathize with your headroom complaint- I'm also 6'3"

Unlike you, I wasn't willing to live without the sunroof and the other bits of the premium package- but there's a solution. If you spend some time reading on g35driver.com you might find the DIY on this, but it's actually quite easy to lower the driver's seat (but not the passenger) below stock 'lowest' height.

Took about 5 minutes to adjust, and I gained about 3/4" of headroom, but it made all the difference in the world- the car, even with sunroof, has been a perfect fit ever since that.

All I'm saying is don't let the headroom put you off- it can be fixed. Now for the drone...it's a love it or hate it thing, and it can only be really fixed by changing the exhaust, but that's not a popular route. And the seatbelt matter, I'm at a loss.

Good luck with your decision, though!
  • maximafanmaximafan Member Posts: 592
Wow! It's great that you were able to solve
that. This sounds like it will be very
helpful for the folks over 6ft to deal with.
But what exactly do you have to do to adjust
the seats outside of the range of the power
    seat button?
As to the exhaust note, although I haven't
had a chance to drive or ride in the Coupe
yet (I'm trying to wait until I'm closer
to the end of my lease to test-drive all of
the vehicles I'm interested in so I don't
get seduced into ending my lease early and
paying more because of it), certainly from
what I hear on the outside that sound is one
of the things that keeps this car on my list.
I don't know if it maybe sounds a little
    different on the inside.
I wish I could spend a few days with a car
such as this to see if it would become
    annoying!
  • white6white6 Member Posts: 588
Appreciate the help. I'll check out that "seat fix" ASAP. I know my wife would like to have the sunroof (I could take it or leave it myself) and the other aspects of the premium package would be appreciated. The exhaust, I know, is a subjective thing. She likes the sound of my 04 GTO exhaust. I'm sure that the tone, as well as volume, is what my wife is objecting to. Fixable, I suppose. It's not really objectionable to me and perhaps it's something that she could get used to. As far as the shoulder harness goes; I guess we could buy one of those clips that provides a bit of slack. I think that this is a significant oversight to build a "premium" car and not provide something as common as adjustable shoulder harness height. And, of course, the G35 sedan has this feature.
  • murrowmurrow Member Posts: 72
Well, in theory, it could be without a sunroof and still not be a base model if it had the sport package or any number of individual options. But realistically, that probably wasn't the case.
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
On the topic of exhause note......

I am asked all the time if I have modified the Coupe. Apparently the exhaust sound is a crowd pleaser.
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
I don't notice the seat belt. This is something you probably don't notice after a while.

The exhaust sound is...... desireable I think. Your wife may not feel the same way.

Sounds like she wants a Lexus in an Infiniti G Coupe body.

Does adjusting this nut lower the seating surface or just let you recline the seatback lower?

If you've become accustomed to, and are enamored of, the rumble of any LS V8, I think any six is going to come up short by comparison.

The ticket really, is to make comparison, if one absolutely has to, to other sixes, against which I think the 3.5 does well.

For my personal tastes in V8s, I much prefer the high-tech song of Audi's 4.2 over GM's LS8s.
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
For my entire life, (the part I have lived so far) I have ignored the price of gas. I just never cared, (occasionally would notice when the monthly bill hit a high).

I have to say though, it's starting to get my attention now.
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
I agree - that's exactly me you are describing!! ;)
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
could you tell us what you did to lower the seat? i can't find that topic over at g35driver.com. thanks!
  • rollbarrollbar Member Posts: 297
Well, now I'll be looking for an Audi 4.2 to see just what it is that has you so smitten. ;)
  • wale_bate1wale_bate1 Member Posts: 1,982
Okay, but you'll have to take one out and stand on it to get the full package.
    :shades:

It's got depth, like a V8 should, but with a high tech whir that I can't really describe. It sings.

Still, referencing above comments, 16mpg in the city is a bit pricier than it used to be...
