Thanks to all for the usefull info! It would be more helpful if -- YOU SPECIFY IF YOUR ORDER IS 4DR 1500, 3DR 1500, or whatever. Made my order (11/29) for 1500, ls, 4dr, 5.3, auto, buckets, cd/cassette, (loaded!), $500 over invoice in Bakersfield, CA. No other info yet. I'm really anxious to hear from the first delivered 4 dr!!
ordered '00 LS Z71 4 dr almost loaded out (no leather/power seats) 24 november. called gm couple times, they said targeted production in january - call back during 2nd week of jan and they should have a build date for me. oh yeah, got my order number, like, 5 days after submitting order to the dealer.
My Truck was ordered on 10/22/99 it is a 1500 Z71 LT SB Black with Graphite interior equipped with locking diff.Trailering package, and the P265/75r-16 tires
Guys, I have given up the wait. Yesterday I traded my 99 Silverado 3dr for a 2000 Tundra Limited Access Cab 4wd. I've owned a new 78, 94, 96, 98, and 99 1/2 ton Chevy 4wd, and have had excellent service, except for the 78. I bought them all from the same dealer, whose brother owns a Toyota store. This is a smooth and quite machine. The 4th door is even more useful than I had hoped, so you all hang in there. I got tired of GM and their secretive and changing build date situation. I may be back one day, because the Silverado body looks sharp, but in 2000 I'm going to try something different. Good luck everyone, and thanks for sharing information. lmurf in E Tenn clinton2701@aol.com
,,,but I understand about getting tired of GM. I am too. I can't make up my mind whether to go ahead and let them build my 2500 4X4 E/C as a 3 door or cancel it and reorder as a 4 door in the spring. My dealer can't give me much help. He did show me the memo from GM saying the 4 door 1/2 tons are being built. Good luck with your Tundra. My boss wants one so bad he can taste it.
I have a '00 Silverado 4WD LT X/C on order. I selected the fourth door, locking rear axle (3.73), Z71 Off Road pkg, Trailer Tow Equipment, P265 WOL Tires & 5300 V8 (this engine doesn't come standard with the LT trim pkg in Canada for some reason?)
I wish you all the best with your new Toyota Tundra. The tundra is a very nice truck & I'm sure that you will be very happy with it.
I looked at the Tundra very carefully before I selected the Silverado. My main reason was the lack of space in the back. I really didn't care for the back seat much. Here in Canada, Toyota's are very, very expensive. A decked out Tundra was about $2800.00 CDN more then the same Silverado.
I have ordered (will be ordered when dealer gets an allocation) a 2000 Silverado, 1500, ext cab, 4th dr, Z71. I want black on top and pewter on bottom. I want the open wheel flares (B71 option, $180 retail). The problem I am having is gaining an understanding of how to order the color and type (shinny or dull black plastic) of wheel flares I want on the truck. The dealers (2) that I have talked to do not seem to understand what criteria or whatever Chev uses to determine what color and type of flares come with the truck. I have come to the conclusion that the ordering dealer must indicate the type and, if the metal shinny type, the color. I know the dull black are one kind. But if you go with the shinny painted type you can either get them 1) the same color as a one color truck, and 2) on a two tone truck you can get them either in the color of the upper truck or the lower portion of the truck.
I have seen some posts on here stating that on a two tone truck they come the color of the lower truck. I have seen them that way but also the color of the upper truck. I have also seen them the color of a 1500 single color truck.
I was on one dealer lot that had two black and pewter two tone trucks, identical, except that the flares were black on one and pewter on the other. I happen to prefer the flares the same color as the upper portion, but that is all personal preference. He also had one all charcoal 1500 truck that had charcoal flares.
I would just like to get some straight scoop because I am going to be one mad guy if I wait 4 months on this truck and it doesn't come with the color flares I want. Thanks for any help.
Placed order 8/30/99 for 2500 2wd ext. cab shortbox, 3 dr. base truck with a/c, appearence pkg, susp. pkg, trl. pkg, locker, 3.73, cruise, high cap. air cleaner, rear slide window, camp mirrors, on/off road tires, Indigo Blue & Graphite interior cloth bench.
To date NO allotment, NO order #, NOTHING BUT FRUSTRATION W/GM. Wrote letter to President of GM a week ago, will see where that gets me. God how I hate being jerked around by GM.
I just want what I ordered.
I wonder if Greg Stancill on post # 84 could get me my truck ???????? What do you think Greg any suggestions ?????????? What state are you located in ????????
ray i don't know if greg can get 2500's, but he sure hooked me up on my 1500. after about 8 emails, and two phone calls (basically based on trepidation on my part) i placed my order with greg. 5 days later...order number. call gm...they say call back in early jan and we'll give you your build week. see how many people who ordered in late november that can tell you that. (fyi: mine's a '00, 1500, LS, Z71, four door ext cab). there are a few, but not many. greg's in kentucky, but he'll deliver anywhere in the continental usa. tell him kyle sent you. he'll even pick your trade up too. you really can NOT go wrong with this guy. i'm completely satisfied. details? email me at kwerking@aol.com or just email greg at postmaster@bigm.win.net
Let me tell you my story. Order a chevy 2500 sht box ext. cab C/K with 350v-8, trailer tow, locking rear, 4wd, cruise/tilt/power everything on Oct. of 1998. Still no truck, no build date. Dealer told me the truck is slated to be built but still no idea when. Finally got fed up and ordered the 2000 model Silverado 2500 with the same equipment (as close as possible). Ordered truck first of Nov.1999 and was told to check back just before christmas for a build date. The dealer gave me an estimate for delivery around the first part of Feb. 2000. We'll wait and see.
What's the deal with GM, most businesses would practically bend over backwards to deliver their product if the customer was willing to buy. I've heard that parts shortages are the reason for the building delays. I feel the worst thing GM did was to quit stocking parts for their vehicles.
The problem is that (GM) does'nt care whether they have your business or not evidentally. Look at all the posts with people trying to order vehicles. Their attitude seems to be buy off the lot or hold your hand on your A** if you order. Another interesting fact seems to go back to the dealerships allotment. If their previous years sales don't add up they get an even lower allotment amount for the following year. Go Figure. GM needs to get off their butts and respond to those who keep them in business.
Latest word from my dealer......still waiting for an allotment. duh!!!!!!
I'm now going back to the other dealerships that quoted me prices and see if they will guarantee an allotment before I order. I just may have to pay more than the $300 over inv. of my original order, we'll see.
Well I was real excited about getting a new Z71 4th door, when I first put my money down, I was told 6- 8 weeks it went way past that and I was just called and told that mine would be built on Jan 17, and should have it by the end of Jan. In the mean time I have thought this over, and realized that I did not need a truck full time every day, and Home Depot rents trucks $20.00 for 75 min. and 5.oo for each 15 min and you do not have to put any gas or pay for mileage. since I want the truck to work around the house once and a while I changed my mind. Then when I read about all the problems about vibration and hinges and all that it makes me very nervous. so I decided to buy a 97 Lexus LS 400 30000 miles and I will pay much less money and the ride is awesome and they have no problems at all with their cars, when will it ever happen that Domestic will get their act together inside and out. I know that some will get mad about this as I am not buying domestic but really it is not hard to see why, I will keep checking this site to see how you all are doing, and best of luck with your Chevy, I will see you in mine, But Home Depot is paying for it and taking care of the trouble. While I enjoy the comfort and dependability of the Lexus
Referring back to my post #121 Gave up on original dealer with their "allotment" problem & contacted a dealer accross state line in Conneticut. Faxed him what I wanted he called me back in half hour stating he has an allotment for 1 2500 Silverado 2wd but order must be in by 12 noon today. Guaranteed delivery 50 days from order. Well out there in a flash placed order with all options I wanted $300 over inv. + that stupid 1% advertising fee. ORDER REJECTED ! from VOM system.
Turns out there is still a restriction on 1SA (Base Model) availability.
Put it in as LS deleting what things I did'nt want (carpet & reg. mirrors) still did'nt want power windows or doors but oh well. Decision time............ How much ????????? Sales Manager says "listen I brought you out here, you obviously came equipped with your check book, I can't get you exactly what you want so I'll sell you this for DEALER INVOICE! I I changed the bench seat to buckets and............ Done deal $24706 invoice plus 7.25% N.Y. tax Total cost $26497. Dealer to call as soon as TPW info comes back from GM. So by 1st week of February I should have it, now for the wait.
...So I finally decided to get a different 00 Silverado. I ordered one on 8-7-99 and still haven't got a build date. 00, Reg. cab stepside, black Z71, Towing, Loaded. The last excuse I heard was that GM was having problems with the black paint sticking to the fiberglass box. Good one huh. I decided to get an Indigo blue one instead. My dealer found one identical to what I ordered but without power seats. They picked it up today. Should pick it up next week. I am having different tires put on it right away, any suggestions?? My dealer said GM won't cancel my order either. Good luck to the rest of you.
...I am getting the blue one anyway. I said I will come trade for mine when it finally comes in. The dealer said we'll see, so maybe I will get the truck I ordered someday. Who knows. I will like to know how long it will actually take for GM to make it. Any thoghts about the Goodyear Workhorse extra Grip tires or the Sport Kings?
Ordered my loaded y2k 2wd 4 door Nov. 22. Called GM this am to check if I had a TPW yet and was told that it is built and in transit to my dealer!! I am stoked! Dealer says 10-15 days til I have it! Anyone else getting theirs? Still not getting too excited, but it sure is looking hopeful. Sales mgr. says more likely to be deliv. before 12/31! I'm paying $500 over invoice and it has been a painless process so far. I will test drive it MAX to check for vibration, etc. Looking forward to other posts re deliv.
chuck stove - keep us updated on your 4 door. from what i've seen you could be the first on this site to actually take delivery. i got my fingers crossed for ya, hope it comes before new years and hope it's slapped together well. good luck.
my info - just got a call from my dealer (greg stancill in louisville, ky, will deliver anywhere in the continental usa for $500 over invoice, give him a call and tell him i sent you) yesterday. i ordered a '00 LS, Z71, 4 dr Ext Cab, blah blah blah, on 24 november, got an order number the 29th of nov, and got a build date of 10 jan yesterday. same story basically, target production week of 10 jan, 3-5 weeks after for delivery. hopefully gm has its act together and there won't be any more delays, and i'll see my truck in the first week of feb. can't wait...good luck to everyone and have some happy and safe holidays!
Does anyone know if it takes longer to get an LT when you order vs an LS? Anyone have suggestions about the 2? I would like to hear how you like the LT and LS. HEY AFS did u get your truck yet??? An ordr number??? Let me know how its going. Thanks
The only deciding factor is what production holds/delays are in affect. As of November there was a hold on the LT package, but that may have changed by now since I tried placing an order for a base Silverado this past friday & there was a hold on them. Ended up ordering an LS instead and got a better deal & an order # at the same time. See my post a ways back for details. Ray T.
I ordered my 99 Silverado 1500 LS, xcab, longbed, power buckets, auto, 3.73 posi, w/ZX3 ride control susp and HD towing on 17 July 99. Order was changed to a 00 1st of Aug as GM wasn't accepting 99 orders anymore (probably a good thing for me).
GM finally accepted my order Sep 29th after telling me that the ZX3 suspension wouldn't be available till May 00 and changing the suspension to a Z85. Still waiting for a build week.
The VOM system shows that my order has been placed in production 8 times and that every time it kicked out for unavailablity of parts (but could never find out what part(s)). Now here it is Dec and trucks are rolling off the line with the ZX3 suspension. But GM will not let me change my order back to the ZX3. They will also not let the dealer cancel the order.
So, I ordered a new truck to my original specs. Dealer says he won't have any trouble selling my 1st order. Going to be interseting to see which of the 2 gets built first.
I am getting my 00 Stepside on Thursday that the dealer picked up. I am getting it for $200 over invoice plus $50 for picking it up. My price is $26,068. I am having Goodyear Workhorses put on right away. The stepsides are the fiberglass part.
I'm only at step five of the order process according to General Motors. My dealership doesn't have an allotment yet, & I'm not sure when they will get one?
After speaking to the wonderful reps at GM, I was told that I may (if I'm lucky) get word around the end of February. The rep forgot to say which year?
I have heard that certain options may put a truck order on hold? I have the Z71, Z82, E24, LM7 & G80 as options. That might make the wait longer, who knows.
Hey AFS i know u said your in canada how far away from the United States? Ever think of coming here (or calling) and ordering one? Just a suggestion. There is a website that has whats on hold as soon as i get home ill post it here. I know the trailering pkg was on hold last time i checked and the LT trim. Ill post it when i get home from work. Merry xmas
Ordered a 2000 Silverado 2500 Extended Cab LT 4x4 SB and every option that GM has, on 21 Dec 99. Dealer said that he had just received 20 allocations, so mine was ordered. I was told that I could check back with them about 10 Jan 00, and get my confirmation on the acceptance of the order.
I am excited to get this truck, my first GM product. Nevertheless, I do not have a warm and fuzzy for the LONG waiting periods for trucks. Is there some where that the ordering procedure is spelled out, so that I can follow my truck through production.
Comments. Is there a dedicated web site (example: www.ford-diesel.com, www.turbodieselregister.com, etc.) which deals specifically with the Silverado. I want to be smarter then the dealer, which is not hard to do.
Glad someone has allotments. Where did you get your Silverado? I was told by Greg Stancill that he had an allocation for a 2000 Silverado LS 2500, ext. cab., S/B, 4x4 with all options except Leather, for me. Sent my deposit, as requested, ($1,000) so it could be shipped to Idaho. But after they received the deposit, I think they dropped off the face of the earth. Can't get a reply from anyone back there. Almost ready to cancel and look for a different dealer that does have allotcations.
ordered my truck with greg too. got my order number and tpw a couple days ago. call him, he'll talk to you. he actually called me a couple days ago to tell me about my tpw. i'm in south carolina...impressed.
I ordered my 2000/1500/ext/cab/4dr from Bill Heard in Huntsville, Alabama. Ditto on the-- "So far my deal has been problem free, but I knew exactly what I wanted, exactly what I wanted to pay and how much crap I was going to take from them." They are a "large volume" dealer and I had no problem with allotments, getting an order#, etc... They also let me keep a truck overnight without question..
After placing my order 9/22/99 my 2k 4dr, peuter, 1500 LS silverado 4.8, 2wd, 3.42 rear, auto, shortbox was built 12/23/99. I was originally given a build week of 1/3/2000. Dealer and GM 800 support say I should have it within 1 - 3wks. We'll see.
My dealer has mine and one other order for the 4 dr coming in together. Maybe this is a indication they are building them faster than the target dates which may benefit everyone with orders.
I was told by General Motors that the plants will be closed from 12/23/99 to 01/03/00.
I phoned the powers that be at General Motors in Oshawa, Ontario today & received some great news!
My order has FINALLY been given a TPW. My dealership was given the order on 11/05/99 & it was accepted on 11/08/99. My targeted production week will be 01/17/00. I asked if there is a build date, but GM told me that all they have is a build week. It will be built at the Fort Wayne, Indiana plant.
If you would please, give me that phone # to the plant in Ontario so I can bug them, I can't just pick on Michigan. Actually I'd prefer the truck to be built in Ontario anyway like my 88 ext. cab was.
Happy to hear that you are making progress! By the way, who is your dealer? Do you know if the U.S. plant runs a few Canadian trucks or are they changed to k's and Can. standards at the dealership? Can't be a big deal, I would guess. Al
I was speaking to the Customer Communication Marketing Centre in Oshawa, Ontario. The phone number is 1 800 GM DRIVE. I'm not sure if the number is good in the United States? They have a web site also. The address is www.gmcanada.com. You could e-mail them & hopefully they will contact you! You will have to give GM your order number so they can check on your truck.
As far as I know all Canadian trucks built in the USA, have the proper dash installed at the factory. If you go to the dealers lot, truck built in Flint, Pontaic or other US plants all have lagre EXPORT ONLY stickers on the glass!
I know how you feel. I ordered a 2k 1/2 ton ext, cab, long bed, 5.3, locking rear with everything but leather on 8/6/99. Got nothing but the song & dance from the dealer & cust. serv. for months. Dealer finally called early Dec. and said my build date would be 12/20. I called cust. serv. again on 12/22 to verify but no truck. When you get a build date it doesn't mean that day, it means sometime that week. According to their coding system, mine was coming down the line that day but I doubt it was finished before they shut down for the holidays. Even if it was I know it wasn't shipped. Looks like it will be at least another 2-3 week wait. That will make it more than 5 months.
Well Kenn it looks like you have a lot of patience. If you followed any of my previous posts you'll see what I went thru. At least your truck is on the runway now, knowing it's built is partial peace of mind the other is getting it. Good Luck it should'nt be long now.
I ordered a '00 4-door 2500 Silverado LT on October 1,1999. I was told that I can expect delivery sometime in April or maybe May. My order has been placed, but not assigned a number. I wrote to GM to find out what was happening, and GM,never got back to me!
Sounds like some of you are having better luck than I am.
Don't expect anything back from GM in correspondance, I sent a letter back in October to their Corporate office General Manager, Peter DeGrosa & again in early December to their North America President, Ronald Zarrella and have had NO return correspondance, they want your MONEY not your mind. Hell of a way to run a business !
Ray T.
Hope everyone made it thru the New Year bug free, I unfortunately had to work thru it courtesy of our Govenor Pataki.
Just got off the phone w/Cust. Assist checking status on my TPW, you'll love this..... Rep says no TPW yet but order has been accepted but did you here the latest on the Silverado's ? The U.S. Army has just placed an order for 50,000 of them & they are getting preference over other orders. So here I sit & wonder & wait, will I ever get mine ? Army Green is beginning to sound nice maybe I can some how get one of them.

As far as I know all Canadian trucks built in the USA, have the proper dash installed at the factory. If you go to the dealers lot, truck built in Flint, Pontaic or other US plants all have lagre EXPORT ONLY stickers on the glass!
Good Luck it should'nt be long now.

Sounds like some of you are having better luck than I am.

Hope everyone made it thru the New Year bug free, I unfortunately had to work thru it courtesy of our Govenor Pataki.
