Waiting for lift off though. I got my order number today. I placed the order with the dealer about a week ago, stopped in there last nite and asked the salesperson for my order number. She said oh, it was ordered. I then said may I have the order number, she then said I will have to call you back tommorow. Then she calls me today with the order number. I get the feeling that they sit on your order until you push them, and whoever pushes the hardest wins. She pulled out a folder labeled "silverado" out of her file cabinet that was about 2" thick with order out trucks. That is just one sales person at one dealership, WOW! GM is going to make mega-bucks on this four door truck. Just wonder how many folks they lost during the wait?

Anyone know what I can expect for a delivery time now that I have the order number?

Many of you seem to have the patience of a saint. My Dakota Club Cab was totalled before Thanksgiving so I had hoped to get a new truck rather quickly(Ha Ha). Due to business travel I was unable to do anything but research until the Christmas holidays. Before test drives my order of preference was F150, Ram, Silverado. The test drive moved the Silverado to the top of my list. However, none of the dealers in the D.C. area had 2WDs on their lots, so I had to order one. After 4 weeks of no allocations, I tried a larger dealership. I explained that I had been unable to get an allocation at the first dealer and was assured that getting an allocation not an issue but their computer was down. I called back the next day and was told my order was entered in the computer but they did not have an allocation for the truck. I was P.O.d for being misled but still wanted the truck so I let it go. Two weeks later hadn't heard from the dealer either way and I was getting ticked so I headed to the dealer to retrieve my deposit check. When I showed up I was told the order had been accepted by the factory 2 days earlier on Feb 9 and they even gave me the order number without my asking for it. I've been calling customer service 1-2 times a week for a TPW but none assigned yet. Friday I called the dealer to see if they knew anything and expressed how my admiration for the Fords was growing. Monday CS still had no TPW for me. Monday night the dealer called and said TPW had been set for 3/20. Called CS Tuesday to confirm and they still said no TPW had been set!! Someone here is either incompetent, dishonest, or both. I'm going to call CS again Friday to check for a TPW and if not it's back to the dealer again. Sorry for the long post but I just had to let off a little steam.

Just like I said, the dealers are playing games because they have limited allocation and an overabundance of orders. When I saw my salesperson pull my order sheet out of that stack of 30 plus (silverado only) orders, that said it all. You did yourself a favor by squeaking, just sounds like you waited too long and did not squeak often enough. I am going to follows Ray's advice, I would rather have my truck before I really need it, than not have it when I do.

My take on it is that GM is very reluctant to commit to information because the way things change. I went to a dealership on Monday Feb 21 and spec'd my truck for order. Dealer promised me a call by the end of the week. On Wednesday, two days later, the dealer called to tell me the order had been accepted, gave me the order number and also told me the TPW of 3/20. I immediately picked up the phone to dial the 800 number, I wanted to hear GM tell me the same story since it seems that it takes a long time to get a TPW, I really couldn't believe the dealer would know it this quick.

That day, Feb 23, GM confirmed for me that the order had been accepted, but told me no TPW was assigned. So 6 days later, Feb 29 I called GM - still no TPW, I should check back in 2 weeks, nothing would change. I checked back TWO DAYS later on March 2 - amazing as it is I was told I had a TPW of 3/20. That is the exact date the dealer told me up front the week I ordered the truck.

I wish I had an answer, but GM refuses to commit to the dates until they are sure they are in stone I guess. They'd rather deal with it this way and leave you hanging vs. giving you tentative information that has a possibility of changing.

To be honest, I guess I ordered at the perfect time. The production lines are up and running and most of the bugs worked out I guess, plus I happen to get in just in time for a week of Extended cab, short bed, 4 wheel drives were being built. If I get the truck as expected - first or second week of April - this will total about a 7 week process.

On the flip side of this I have a cousin that ordered a 3/4 ton last July. He finally took delivery the third week of February.

Good luck, just keep calling GM. It might not hurt to check with your dealer as well. Mine knew up front what it took almost two weeks for GM to tell me.

Chevolet must be getting their ducks in a row.
I placed my order on 2/01/00. They built it on 2/29/00.(Does that mean my truck will only be 1 year old at the next leap year?) My salesman just called me to say my truck will be in next week.
I should be driving it for St. Patties Day!.
It is a fully loaded LS. Just doesn't have leather.

Just got off the phone with Chevy CS. Didn't know which plant yet. Based on other posts I expect to see a truck around mid-April. Order was accepted 2/9. Truck is 1500 LS 4.8 2WD Ext cab 4 dr LB in Indigo Blue Metallic. Guess I've got to get serious about shopping for accessories. {8^)

Truck arrived at the dealer today....ordered Jan 28. Six weeks exactly. Loaded XCab Z71 Sportside, 5.3L, etc, etc. Only missing the ordered rear slider which will be added by the dealer. Pretty good turn-around....hopefully some/all of the annoying problems have been ironed out. Maybe Chevy/GMC have gotten their act together a little better...
