This is hard to believe. At the rate GM produces them, it will be around 2011 before they can pro-duce that many. If this is the case, Ford might get a lot of new orders. Sad situation isn't it?
On 10/1/99 I made the deal on a 2000 Silverado Z71 4 door. It was from a smaller dealership and I knew I would have to wait awhile. I ordered at $200 over invoice (whatever that means). They have told me it has been ordered, but that is all I know. Could anyone give me some guidelines on what questions to ask as to when it will be built. They said something about getting a confirmation back on the order and that should have a build date on it. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a '00 Silverado LT 4WD X/C (4dr) on order. I ordered it on 11/05/99. It was accepted by GM on 11/08/99. I too have ordered it from a small dealership.
I phoned GM last week, and was told that it will be built in the week of 01/17/00.
If you have an order number, you can call GM & ask about your order.
I know what invoice is to me - but apparently there may be some advertising or promotion costs shown on the dealer invoice. I hadn't thought of this when I ordered but as long as their reasonable (ie $250 or so) I won't complain to much. Thanks for you help on how to check to see when the truck may be built.
I put my order in for a 2000 Silverado 2500 E/C 4x4 about 11/19/99. Still waiting for an order #, can't get one. My pickup has a buyer, but I can't sell it until I know the 2000 is coming. It does put me in a bind, almost ready to call it all quits. My present pickup is a Ford F250 ('88) 4x4, extremely clean with 46,000 on it. It looks better every day that I put in waiting for no word from dealer. Got some thinking to do, so hope all of you have luck in getting the truck that you want.
Advertising fees are 1% of cost of vehicle, so what ever they agree to sell you the truck for, if they have'nt already included it, add 1% to know the additional charge for advertising fee. Edmunds gives a summary of these fees under the Holdback info page, check it out.
Check topic #555 my post #442 to see what I paid for my truck, which of course I am still waiting for a build date on.
HANG IN THERE ! It'll be worth the wait, when you think you've waited to long think of me 8/30/99! still no truck, switched dealers (Danbury, Conneticut)12/17/99 got the order # from him at least. Spoke to General Sales Manager today at the Portland, Maine dealership he also is in charge of & expressed concerns about his 50 day order to delivery promise but the truck still has no TPW, he assured me not to worry new TPW update due Monday & he will personnally call me from Maine to let me know what's up. As I said before the AGONY of the wait ! But I'm a diehard Chevy Truck lover so I'll stick it out.
I surely hope so. But this is the first time every that I have been advised to keep the pickup that I have and forget about getting a 2000, from a dealer. Weird world isn't it?
Is this Greg telling you that? I can't believe it! I thought he had allotments for 1/2 & 3/4 ton units? Sounds like allotment problems to me. I think you will be much happier with the new one (personal opinion) especially since your present truck is already 12 years old, but then again you do have low mileage & it is in good condition. I made the mistake of selling my 88 Chevy prior to knowing about the allotment problem with the former dealership I was dealing with, luckily I have a commuter car I use for my 100 mile a day commute & the truck is not needed until camping season starts in spring. The ultimate decision is your's of course. Don't you just love it ! Who ever thought buying a new truck could be so stressfull!
No it wasn' Greg Stancill that told me to keep my Ford. It was a local dealer (No. Idaho) that gave me the advice. It is because we are in such a small populated area, they don't get a lot of allotments for 2500 pickups. They do have quite a few 1500 on the lot. But I pull a 26' 5th wheel during summer months, 1/2 ton won't handle it. Between here and Lolo Hot Springs in Montana is a gorgeous chain of mountains, and it is tough pulling. So here is hoping that I get my 2500 Silverado before summer gets here. Possibly I will, who knows.
I well understand the crossed fingers and typing problem---same here.
Got e-mail from Greg this morning, he is waiting for the lady in regional marketing to get the order # . Which, as I understand it, should be coming shortly. I sure hope so..At least that is one step closer to getting a TPW. Like waiting for Christmas when I was a lad many years ago.
Allotment updates are made on weekly basis with dealerships, this sounds like the problem your having w/this dealership (they must not buy that many trucks). This dealer had no right to cash that deposit without placing the order, you have a legitimate gripe here with him & I would go to General Manager & let him know that. Start looking around for another dealer who has the allotment otherwise hunker down for the wait ! As a lot of us LOYAL customers have been forced to do if we want it that bad. Other option, buy off the lot thats what the dealer would prefer you do. If you do, go in with a copy of the print out from Edmunds(MSRP/Invoice) so your guns are loaded and dealer nows your serious & can't be blind sided by him.
Just placed an order for a '00 2500 LS Silverado, extended cab, 4 doors, 2WD, 6.0L, 3.73 axle. Paid $200 over invoice, and dealer did not require a deposit. Won't get an actual order number until February, since latest factory report is that 4 door 3/4 tons won't be in production until March 1. Dealer says I can expect delivery in May. Once I get order number, how can I follow up at factory, as opposed to just calling dealer every few weeks?
Thanks for the info. I have already set aside vast quantities of refreshments in anticipation of a long wait. But, I've driven my old Dodge for over 10 years and nearly 200,000 miles, so I don't mind a few months wait to get exactly what I want.
to sell my 88 Chevy Ext. cab prior to recieving new truck, however dealer had told me 6 to 8 weeks & no allotment restriction, so after 5 weeks I sold the old truck w/128000 on it. After 7 weeks & no communication from dealer I called him to find out that there was in fact a problem with the allotment & truck was still not ordered. Waited another 7 weeks for allotment then cancelled order with them & found dealer in Danbury, Conneticut who had allotment & placed my order while I waited. Turned out to be a better deal price wise because instead of $400 over invoice as originally negotiated I paid Invoice plus advertising fee. Now I wait again but have some piece of mind that order is at least placed, when TPW is scheduled is another issue. I now also have 5 months of payments in the bank to put towards new truck, so there is that much less I have to borrow on home equity loan for new one.
I have a Z71 4 door on order, I can get 7.4% financing for 60 months through my credit union, or I can get a home equity loan for 7.75 through the same credit union. Would I be able to deduct the interest off my taxes? If so does this seem the way to go? I will have to put it on paper to see where the benefit is. Any input on this subject would be appreciated.
I've been reading and hearing about folks waiting an eternity for their new vehicles, so I decided to wait until the 2nd year of production, but that doesn't seem to have helped very much. The dealer I'm working with does a lot of commercial fleet sales, and he seems to be able to get pretty much everything he can sell. I've just resigned myself to a long wait, and won't even try to sell the old Dodge until I get an actual ship date from the factory. As you know, TPW sometimes doesn't mean much.
I've heard about people getting a home equity loan to use for buying a vehicle. Technically, you can deduct the interest you pay on a home equity loan from your income (or I call it enema-come) tax. But legally, the IRS would come after you for back taxes if they found out you used a home equity loan for buying a truck, since you cannot legally write off interest on a truck loan. Also, if you have a home mortgage and a 2nd home mortage or a home equity loan, you can't write off interest on a 3rd loan of any kind.
Look at this way - if you borrow, say $20,000, for 5 years on a truck loan, your monthly note at 7.4% is about $399.00 and the same amount at 7.75% is about $403. So you're paying $4.00 per month extra over a 60 month loan period, or about $240 total. To me, that's not worth the risk of getting caught by the IRS and paying back taxes, penalties, etc. and making your life miserable for the next 20 years.
Also, if you went the home equity loan route and then ran into financial trouble down the road, and you had to default on your loan, the bank would come after your house, not the truck. Take the 7.4% loan.
Forget all this home equity and loan crap. Thats a bunch of bs thats why u save ur pennies and pay cash. Thats what im doing. Only about $7000 more to go. Seems so much easier. I can see buying a home and getting a loan but to me it makes no sense on a vehicle. maybe thats me.
I don't know why your saying by taking a loan out for a vehicle is BS. First of all I do own a very nice home, have a great position as a Chemical Engineer in Houston, and have had a lot of success investing my hard earned cash in other reliable area's, in which I can promise you gives me a much better return than the 7.4% rate. If I was living paycheck to paycheck I would understand your point, but that is not the case. I was just posing the question about a tax benefit. Plain and simple I don't see it as B.S. And second of all if I were having to save all my pennies to buy a 30K truck, I wouldn't be buying a 30K truck - where is the sense in that?
Relax man i said it makes no sense to me to take out a loan and pay more in the long run. I dont believe in doing that i guess. I dont care what u do im saying what im gonna do. Please dont say i live pay check to pay check and dont know how to invest. I am 20 yrs old i have 10,000 invested as we speak. The saving the pennies thing was u know a metaphor. Sounds like you are in a good profession im going to school for mechanical engineering. Im sorry if i offended u i was just stating how i feel about loans and stuff myself.
Thanks for the feedback. Spoke with Chevrolet they phoned the dealership and told me that GM is not making anymore 2000 2wd ext cab silverados ls.They said 2wd reg cab could be ordered. But are no longer making ext cab 2wd. The dealership said I can go there and they will cut me a check for my deposit. I also told Chevy that other dealerships said they could place the order without a problem. Chevy stated that they might not have tried to place an order so don't know yet. I asked Chevy if this was just in Pennsylvania, they said no. All over.
I ordered from Mike Hall a Z71, 5.3,4 dr., Leather, somewhat loaded - will be built this week I am told. I purchased it for $200 over. I found that a couple of dealers were willing to make this deal for me, however most said no way will that happen!
Ryan,
I apologize if I was a somewhat rough with my post- the B.S. part got me a little heated. Sounds like your off to a good start on your investing - very wise to start young - good luck!
My bank encouraged me to take home equity line of credit for auto purchases, which I have been using for 15 years now, it's the only way to deduct the interest, auto loans don't allow that anymore, but I do see your point on the financing issue.
Just my thoughts.......
My order was placed 12/17/99 & per my previous post TPW 1/31/00 Y2K 2500 2wd LS Ext.Cab shortbox.
i thought i was all hyper about ordering but u have me beat by alot. I havent ordered mine yet i am glad urs is being built soon. Hopefully then the bottle will go down and u will settle down haha. Good luck hope it comes soon
I ordered 12/3/99 and have had a TBW of 1/31/00 for some time now on the same truck but on a 1500 rather than 2500. Your luck may be changing for the better, have ANOTHER drink. ;->
I'll drink to that...in fact I am...brandy & coke. Now if I get an order# number I'll be in hog heaven...might even drink another one. Probably will anyway....Glad for you guy. :-)
Hey everyone. I just found this site, really great to be able to all gather and exchange info. Glad to hear that Ray got his TPW. Ray, I was wondering(and everyone else too that has a TPW), what kind of truck did you order? I ordered a 2wd 2500 2 days before Christmas.
i now see in post #201 that you ordered a 2500 2wd also. Just curious about something. does the dealer inform you about the TPW, or does GM inform you?
The interest on your truck loan can be deductible and certainly can be worthwhile. Almost all financial institutions make courtesy loans where they have a second mortgage on your house as is required by the law. It really is no big deal. The IRS doesn't care what you have used the funds for as long as the rules have been followed and limitations met. Your credit union can tell you how simple it is. You save the federal rate of tax multiplied by the amount of interest paid that year. You must also be able to itemize your deductions. If truck is used for business interest is deductible as a business expense in same ratio as % business use of the truck. Being able to deduct interest can amount to several hundred $ each year.
If you finance your truck with an auto loan from a bank/cu/manufacturer and something were to happen that would effect your ability to make the payment.....they come and take the truck.
If you finance your truck with a home equity loan and something were to happen that would effect your ability to make the payment.....they come and take the house.
I am curious how did you you get the tires that you describe on T555/p442. I can't get much info on those even though I took the $295 optional WOL tires (QCJ). Also, when placing the order it wouldn,t allow for the sliding window option.
number1, are you getting a 1500 or 2500, that probably is the difference in tire size, as Ray's is a 2500. About the slider, you can't get rear defroster with Heated OSRV mirros and get the slider too, its an either or, not both. hope this helps!
thanks for the info on the TPW. I don't have a order number or anything yet, placed my order Dec 23. You say you got a TPW of the 31st? Do you know how long they plan to be building 2500's at that time? a week or 2, or how does that work? Thanks!
I decided to get the defogger after the slider option would not take. Thanks though, I didn't register Ray's 2500 when I read it the first time. BTW the GMO price for my truck (at T555/P502) was $24053 Arizona tax and plates moved the out-the-door price to $26271.

The latest word I have from GM is: 1. The 2500 production run ended 31 Dec and won't pick up again until end of Jan. 2. GM has only been producing 225 trucks (1500 - 3500 models) per month. Beginning Feb 1st, the production rate is supposed to increase to 600 per month. 3. My 2k LS Xcab 1500 LB, that I ordered back in July and received an order # for in Sept, STILL HAS NO TPW!!! {:(
Let's see...600 per month, and 60,000 orders, it should only take about 8 years to get a 2000 model and 5 minutes to walk across the street to look at Dodge. Just might give it a whirl.
Even in one plant that sounds ridiculous, let alone a total output for all plants. Maybe they are now assembling them by hand and painting them with a roller coater! I still say I would rather wait a little longer if it means they are going to solve some of the quality problems before they ramp up to full production. My old '84 F150 is still reliable and patience is my middle name.
That is still only 900 units, for all 50 states, plus the US Gov't, and all foreign buyers that want one. They can probably get one faster than the buyers here, of which I am one. Or at least I am trying to be.
