These brakes wear out in one day at watkins glen so performance was not in mind when these were engineered into the car. Also the brembo package on the coupe last longer and they are a performance updrage. Performance does not equal fast wear...it equals excuse. Trust me if you dont want to pay you wont have to...it all depends on what you are willing to put up with. Pads maybe but rotors at 15k...I'd be standing int the showroom having a kiniption if I didn;t get rotors.

I don't get it. If the pads are wearing because they are soft, why are the rotors also wearing thin. One or the other is expected to wear, not both.I read recently that machining the rotors when doing a brake job is not needed, unless they are gouged by rivets. Pushing the pad life to the absolute minimum pad thickness will insure the need for rotors. I would replace them before the rivets hit the rotors.

Count me in the number of G35 owners who have felt the sting in their pocketbook at 24000 km (15000 mi.) I took my car in for its regular service and, like many others before me, was obliged to replace front pads and turn the rotors. My service manager said he could do nothing. Up the line I went to the national HQ and the national service manager gave me the party line including a claim that brakes wear because (1) driver behavior (2) compromise between performance and component life (3) owners must observe proper service intervals. (I should add on my last 2 cars, most recently a G20 five speed, my original brake pads lasted 150,000 km or 90,000 miles so I think that puts the lie to driver behavior. I pointed this out in my correspondence.) I have since written the president of Infiniti Canada and will await his reply. The remedy I am seeking is full reimbursement of my costs for this ridiculous failure of the components. I expected comfort, quality, performance and reliability when I bought my G and so far I feel that I have been shorted on at least a couple of those expectations. Would love to hear if anyone has had any recent luck getting their costs covered, especially in Canada, or has Infiniti now recognized the magnitude of the problem and dug their heels in.... I will keep you advised when Infiniti Canada president responds to my verbal missile that I fired his way.

Well seems the bumpers have come up again. I took my G35 like I have been doing every 3500 miles to sears for an oil change and since I was going on a 6 hour drive I had requested my tires be rotated which they do at no charge with the oil change at a cost of $23.95. Service is great at Sears. Well it was a good thing I had asked him to rotate the tires cause he advised me my pads needed replacement-at 11,000 miles, which kind of shocked me since I had 2 prior Infiniti's
(I30's) and I know they lasted much longer.
The bumper issue I had brought up about 45 days ago when a small tap in the parking lot cause the paint to spider, which if I got re painted would cost me $400.00. So I called my Infiniti dealer and my sales man was on vacation so the sales man I spoke with said this happens not because of a fault Infiniti safety bumpers meet the US Government specs and is not covered under warranty-He said this had to be someone hitting me in the parking lot above 5 MPH. Funny cause I tapped my empty plastic garbage can with the rim above my right from tire and the paint spidered there also.

So I guess with the report I had posted within these forums of Car bumpers fail crash test

The Infiniti G35 luxury car from Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. sustained the most damage, an average of $1,481 in each of four crash tests on the front and rear bumpers to simulate common mishaps in commuter traffic and parking lots.

So it seems that Infiniti attempting to lead the pack with a great car has a lot of work to do,By the way I was involved in a car accident on the NYS Thruway getting hit and spinning 360 degrees a few times and should know by end of weeek on the totaling of what was my brand new G35. I have go give Infiniti credit thou I feel the safety of my G35 saved the lives of my family.

With the below insurance reports as much as I loved my G35 will not be purchasing another one-will stay with Infiniti but head back to the I35 which is as safe as the G35 maybe more so but has no bumper issues which I consider a serious flaw by them

for this cnn post go to http://money.cnn.com/2003/09/08/pf/autos/bumpers.reut/index.htm

All I have to say is that it looks great! Just looking at the car, it looks like the original bumper. Upon a detailed examination, you can barely tell where the damage was done. Very impressed. All the scratches/cracks in the paint are fixed. And the 1.5 inch crack in the bumper is fixed. He was able to match the 3 stage paint perfectly! Way better than replacing the whole bumper cover. Final cost was about $225.

Exactly what I always think. Why do the rotors need turning unless the pads have worn right down to the metal. I had a Toyota Supra that would wear the pads down in about 20,000 miles but over the 130,000 miles I owned the car the rotors never needed touching. I wonder if there is some unnecessary work going on here.

    Jaymez56,
I actually used a body shop that the Infiniti dealership recommended. This particular dealership does not have its own shop.

Yesterday I took my black G35 coupe in for the safety recall.Made the mistake of leaving the delership while they did the repair.I asked them to be extra careful with my car. They promised the car would be better than when I left it.Picked it up and went home. Hours later my daughter came over and said what did they do to your car its messed up.I went outside to see that my license plate frame was broken the license shoved into the car the car scratched and paint chips on the back end I called the dealer they knew right away what happened. They have a stupid car wash (which I didnt know they had)and it caught the license plate and scratched the back end etc.The bum part of this is they knew that G35 coupes had had this happen in the car wash before.I have babied this car owned if for 9 months have only 2100 miles on it.Never had it washed at a car wash only hand washed. My husband checked the car and noted that there were scratches all over the car in the paint that were not there before I brought it in..I am so sick I cant believe they knew about this and still put my car thru Dont leave your car at any infinity shop without watching them Question everything and dont let them put your car in their obsolete car wash. After talking to the service rep I found out they are awaiting permits for a new car wash.I took the car back in and at first the service rep had a bad attitude but I convinced him that they created the problem and needed to address it immediately.

I apologize for spelling Infiniti wrong on my previous post above. I caught it after my 30 minute edit time expired.

I, if you, would absolutely raise holy heck with the dealer for their negligence and wouldn't stop till they make things right for you. This is a completely outrageous and unacceptable situation. Please keep the board apprised of your situation.
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
They sent it to the body shop for the hatch/spoiler fixed. When it came back I had scratches on the front and rear of the car and a paint chip. to say I was po'ed is an understatemnet had them fix it all but will never go back to that dealer for service or to buy another car.

I recieved a return call from Ininiti customer service regarding my front brake pad wear at 15k miles. I was told the same thing ... i.e driving habits, soft pads for performance etc.... I was given a $75 voucher towards my next service. ( it must be used with in 6 months ) Yee ha!! I just had a 15k mile service so I'm really not sure what else I'll need in the next 6 months other than an oil change. I asked if I could have 1 year instead of 6 months on the voucher, I was told "NO". Actually , it may come in handy ... my rear brakes are probably on the way out too!
I really like my G35 but unfortunately, due the poor service and exuses I'm getting with Infiniti, it will be the first and last Infiniti I own.
  • rdb1rdb1 Member Posts: 10
My front brakes needed to be replaced at 9700 miles. I was told the same thing by my service manager; driving habits, soft pads for performance, etc. After arguing in the dealer showroom, the brake work was done for free! He called Infiniti's customer service right then and there and got approval to have the work "goodwilled."
  • carnaughtcarnaught Member Posts: 3,583
If I were you I'd check my rear pad wear both by the dealer and an independent brake dealer and find out how much of the pads are still "there" and what the replacement cost would be. If they need replacement and the dealer is competitive on price, use the voucher.

Just heard an ad for BMW. They offer full maintenance for 4 years or 50,000 miles. This also includes wear and tear items such as pads and rotors provided the wear and tear exceeds BMW specs. These specs are not listed on their web page. Can anyone with a 2003 BMW add to this?
  • bocatripbocatrip Member Posts: 194
My girlfriend owns an 02 325i. He first oil change came at 15,000 miles. Why? Because you must wait for a light to come on to notify you of any service needed. Thus, 15,000 miles for the first free oil change. Big deal!!!!! No wonder the service is free. At this rate, there will be 3 oil changes and the warranty runs out. What are they giving away? nothing. It's what I call the BMW HMO!!! By the way, if you want them to do an extra oil change and not wait as long.. it's $125.00 It just goes to show you. Nothing is free and you get what you pay for. The BMW is not cheap.

I read in an RX8 related forum that some people are getting better gas mileage by disabling the traction control system in their cars. The system works by applying the brakes to prevent car from spinning its wheels in slippery conditions. The theory is that the computer is applying the brakes too often, which is causing their mileage to get worse. RX8ers don’t seem to be complaining about their brake pads wearing off too fast, but then again, I don’t think that many of them have reached 12K yet.

I am not sure if the G35 uses the same method, but could the traction control system be a contributing factor to the premature brake wear problem?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,546
probably not, becasue I assume that the TC is braking th erear wheels, but the front pads are wearing out.

Probably just very soft pads. If I had one, I woould switch to an aftermarket pad if the OEM only lasted 15K.

I have a G35 Coupe 6 Speed Manual Transmission and have had nothing but problems.

I am on my forth transmission from the factory. First started to happen about 3 weeks after I received the vehicle.

I have 20K on the car. Took delivery in November 2003.

1st problem was grinding between 4th and 3rd on the down shift (didn’t matter at what speed).
Answer defective sycro gear. Replaced Transmission

2nd problem. Grinding started and loud whining noise when clutch was disengaged.
Answer defective transmission. Replaced Transmission. Same model transmission as original. At the point on am on my 3rd transmission.

3rd problem. Whining noise when clutch was disengaged. Popping out of 5th at various speeds.
Answer: Defective transmission. Replaced Transmission with Third Generation

4th problem. Still have whining noise and popping out of 5th frequently. Mostly when slowing down with out the brake applied (downhill happens most).
Answer: Defective 5th Gear (e.g. Defect Transmission). Was told a new transmission is on its way. I don’t think so, can you say lemon law.

So this will mean that I have had 5 transmissions in my car in 20K miles. That a transmission approximately every 4K miles. Hmmm, thought you were suppose to changes the oil that frequently, not the transmission.

Any one else having this issue. If you don’t you will. Let me know.
  • g35_wangg35_wang Member Posts: 21
I am not an expert on cars, but seems to me the problem is not the transmission. Transmission can fail, but not all 5 of them like that. Maybe the dealer should do a better job diagnosing the problem. Hope it won't happen to me like it did to you.

I think the lemon law definitely applys here. But I am not an expert on that either :) I think you can contact your state goverment for more information.

Hope everything goes well for you.

Personally, I find it unacceptable that a CD-Changer in a $35,000 vehicle cannot properly play CD-R discs when MANY after-market decks will play these, as well as MP3 discs......EVERY vehicle I have ever owned could play CD-R's without a problem....so can my $25.00 "boombox.

Part of the problem, is there are many different types of "book" compliances with CD players. Apparently, some models in Japanese vehicles are STILL having these problems.
Regardless of what ANYBODY tells you, it IS a problem with the CD player, NOT the CD-R discs!!!

One solution when using CD-R's is to record your discs at a maximum speed of 4x...1x is even suggested! Even though your recording media claims to be up to 52x compatible, and these discs will work in almost ANY other device, your Japanese car's CD player may choke on them.

Had to re-burn about 8 discs, but the 4x burns seem to play fine. BTW, I make copies of my COMMERCIAL discs so the originals stay in good condition.

Also...be advised that with MANY CD-R blanks, the aluminum layer is ON TOP of the polycarbonate, then covered with paint. The slightest scratch can render the disc useless. Discs that have the matrix material sandwiched BETWEEN the polycarbonate layers will exhibit a rainbow-like defraction on the top side, as well as the bottom.

    Hope this helps!!

After reading the postings here in the forum concerning brake pad replacement issues, I called the service advisor at the dealership. He acknowledged that YES, he has seen people needing to have their pads replaced on G35 coupes in as little as 9,500 miles. Initially, the dealership was able to convince Infiniti to pick up the cost on this, but they are now refusing to do so!! He claimed that even cars equipped with the Brembo brake packages are not making it past 25,000 miles!
Now....if I were driving a Formula One car, I would be quite happy if the brakes lasted through ONE RACE. However....there are many cars which are in a much higher category in terms of performance, which do not have to have their brakes replaced nearly this often. The service advisor told me that the dealership MUST resurface the rotors, otherwise "heavy vibration will occur", but also acknowledged that the latter was partly dependent upon rotor scoring.

If you are unhappy with Infiniti's stance on this issue...CALL THEM and tell them so......write a letter to Road & Track...tell everybody(and their brother!).

After-market pads with a harder matrix sound like a good idea, but won't do much to help if the rotors are wearing prematurely!

I'm afraid the Infiniti G35 Sport Coupe is destined to be one of those vehicles which developed a legendary degree of ambivalence amongst it owners.......there will be things you both love AND hate about the car at the same time!
  • lithopslithops Member Posts: 5
Well.......it looks like after-market disc brake pads for the Infiniti G35 Coupe may/may not be a viable alternative.

I checked with some various RELIABLE sources, and was cautioned to NOT consider ceramic-matrix pads. If your rotor material was not designed for these, the rotors WILL be rendered useless in as little as 3,500 miles!!

The OEM pads on the G35 coupe are considered "organic"... this is part of the reason why they wear so fast. Metallic pads will last much longer, and still allow reasonable rotor war, but the metallic pads are much more prone to noise, especially when heated during prolonged braking.

If anyone finds a workable, after-market solution, please post here!!

I have had my G35 for about 1.5 months now, and have about 1200 miles on it. I have the performance and aero packages. My questions:

    1. Brakes (I see everyone asking about this one) -My front rims get extremely dirty (brake dust) within a couple of days of cleaning them. Now, my theory, is it possible that the brake calipers could be sticking just a bit, also then causing the premature wear on the pads? As a result causing my gas mileage to be around the 15-16 mpg mark. I think that is unacceptable. My SUV gets 19 mpg in the same type of driving.

    2. Remote Keyless Entry - I can't seem to open the doors from the remote unless I am VERY close to the car. I have to be within about 10 feet of the car, before it will open. Very annoying.

    3. Navigation System - Definetly needs some improving. I am comparing this one to the one in my 2001 Lexus RX300, and the RX system blows it away. One problem though (a bit hard to explain). When I program in a destination, and start driving to it, Assume that the turns need to be made in 8 miles, and then 6 miles. Instead of the system telling me to make a turn within half a mile in advance, the screen will switch over immediately to tell me to make a turn 8 miles in advance. Then, once I make the turn, instead of going back to the map, for the next 5.5 miles, it is already telling me to make a turn in 6 miles. Now, I have been able to press the map button a few times, and make it work the way it is supposed to, but is anyone else having this problem? Could it be a software glitch?

    Thanks.

    Ashish

    1. Brakes - yours are like everyone elses. The dust goes down after about 5K, but it never goes away. Mileage will get better down the road. I've averaged about 2mpg better than my initial ownership. Used to get 16-18, now 18-20. Mostly city driving (70%). 18K on my car.

    2. Have read this and tried it. Hold the key fob under your chin and press. Your body projects the signal. Looks silly, but it works.

    3. Don't have NAV.
  • supra880supra880 Member Posts: 9
While this method does work for increasing the distance your keyfob can transmit, there is one problem with it. The tiny battery in the keyfob is designed to supply power to the tiny transmitter in the keyfob, and not supply enough power to a transmitter that weighs 165 pounds (me), which is what I'm doing when I hold it up to my chin. Thus, the battery will wear out MUCH quicker than usual.

I don't do this though, since my keyfob works fine up to about 30ft.

Six of one, half-dozen of another, I guess.

I'm getting a G, but besides the brake issue is there anything else I really should know... how has everyones gas milage worked so far... I know its bad durring the break in... and comming from a ford expedition nothing can get worse than what I was getting with that (12mpg on HW) anyways...lol I like the car and I'm hopping to be a proud owner really soon... oh yeah bout what price range should I shoot for while I'm negotiating... i'm lookin at getting the sedan with the premium package and nothing else (don't care about sport suspention or the aero packages or nav) so what should i expect to deal with? <wish I could get it now... but have to wait till end november mid december when I can actually do it> thankx
  • carnaughtcarnaught Member Posts: 3,583
Aside from the brake issue, I feel that the interior materials are not holding up as well as I would have expected and liked. Specifically the leather seats and the plastic on the console. They are just wearing and excessively wrinkling respectively, at about 17,000 mi. In additon, the front window glass and headlight plastic covering is almost porous, absorbing dirt and bugs to the point that they do not clean up thoroughly. Having owned many cars and currently owning three, I am just comparing these observations to my other cars.
  • cjs2002cjs2002 Member Posts: 341
I'm also considering looking into an X type....I don't know though... heard some bad things but recently everyone I've talked to has had comments on the good side....so I don't know....

    Thank You....

I also noticed your posts on the X-Type boards. I have both the X-Type (lease) and the G35 (own outright) and there is NO comparison. The X-Type wins hands-down. No major problems and Jaguar service is wonderful. A few early 2002 models had issues and Jaguar gave many owners new cars with more options for the same price. They fixed the problem cars and leased them at low rates while still offering full warranties and FREE service.

The only drawback to the Jaguar are the under powered 2.5L or 3.0L engines. The G35 has a 3.5L rocket launcher for an engine.

However, Infiniti will not replace prematurely wearing brakes. Now this is a safety issue. It was only after I complained to a government safety agency that Infiniti frantically called and asked me to rescind my complaint without fixing the issue.

They only agreed to turn and machine the rotors. Infiniti claims it is driver error and short stops that cause the premature brake pad wearing. I only drive the G35 on the highway during the weekends. How can the brakes wear after 7K miles? To the best of my knowledge, the government is still investigating the numerous complaints.

Needless to say, the complaint still stands and I urge others to do the same.

Jaguar would never allow this to happen. Jaguar would give you a new car. They have a formula for success and want to retain customers for life. The X-Type is an entry level luxury car designed to hook you and have you spend more as your financial means increase. Moreover, maintenance is FREE. People think you pay for this up-front and that is NOT factual. Every time I take it for service, it gets a mini-detail, all computer codes are upgraded, anything broken is fixed and this happens with a smile. Every six months, the X-Type receives a full detail. All this for FREE. Imagine that. People still think of the old Jaguars with electrical problems. It is now a new ballgame....

Take my advice and stick with the best: Jaguar. We pay a lot for these cars and should expect safety items to function properly! In addition, people expect good service. Once Infiniti sells you are car, you are; sadly, another statistic.

People may bash my post. I ask that you purchase or lease a Jaguar and experience the service for yourself. You may never buy Infiniti again.

I went to the NHTSA website and read some of the complaints people have been lodging about this issue with PREMATURE brake failure on the G35 Coupes.

I'm afraid what will happen, is people will IGNORE the brake wear indicator squealing at only 8,000 -15,000 miles. Most people, unaware of this potentially dangerous problem, would never suspect that their brakes would fail in such a short period of time, and somebody is going to pay....with their lives, because Infiniti REFUSES to address this issue!

Each G35 Coupe owner, filing complaints with Infiniti individually, are obviously NOT being taken seriously.

The next step, seriously(and I don't know why somebody hasn't addressed this yet) is a Class Action Lawsuit.

Unfortunately, we, the consumers, have seen similar scenarios played out again and again. Automobile manufacturers do the math, and find it's less expensive to try and fend off individual claims due to manufacturing defects rather than issue a mass recall.

Question is, do YOU want to let this happen to you?

    I don't!

And no.......I'm not a lawyer, but they DO serve their purpose now and again

Meguiar's makes an excellent scratch remover (I assume you are talking about the clear plastic instrument cover). Check your local auto parts store or their website. I use it myself to keep the head light lens looking new.

I have been talking with the Power Stop people (TRW) who tell me they are working on cross drilled rotors for the sedan. I am holding my breath my existing rotors hold out.

thanx for the info... I do like the X type and I feal like I'm truely the most important peron when I walk in there dealorships... do you have the 2.5 or the 3.0 X type... I'm thinking about trying to get just a base 3.0 auto just for the extra power it has ( mostly all high way driving). I just don't know if I can swing the payments (I'll be leasing it too) but we'll have to see... I'm going to go either this weekend or next weekend with my father to make a final desicion. thank you so much :) everyone

I too have owned the X-Type Jag. (Unfortunatley), I traded it for the G35, mainly because my son was predominantly using the car. There are a few simple observations I have comparing them. The Jag was not nearly as fast but power was more than adequate. The overall interior in the Jag as well as the exterior finish are far superior to the G35. I had no problems with the Jag with nine months of ownership and numerous problems and at least six recalls since buying the G35. As my posts have previously indicated, the G is not wearing well, i.e., the materials are prematurely wearing with normal use. The only exception are the tires (Bridgstones) which happen to be wearing at 18,000 mi. as if they have 10,000 mi.! This is opposed to front (and now rear) brake pads (at 15,000 mi.), the leather and interior plastics and the body itself and plastic light lens covers. What is even more inexcusable is Nissan/Infiniti's attitude that it is not THEIR fault or problem, but that of the driver. This is not unlike that European country's govt. who owns Nissan.

At this point, despite their innovative products, I find myself hard pressed to consider another Nissan product.

I would appreciate that discrimanatory comments against any countries, such as the one just made by Carnaught be forbidden and removed from this board. It is has no place on this board or anywhere else as a matter of fact. We are here to discuss cars like the G35 and nothing else. Thank you.

Although my above comment was made in a subtle and by innuendo it was simply in reference to a type of attitude of Infiniti I observed. Sorry if it offended you, especially during these current times.

Sorry to hear you have had so many troubles. I have had a few, but I haven't been back to the dealer that often. My car is 1 year old, and I have 15,000 miles. I also was told that I needed new front pads and rotors. They said that they could not machine them. With a lot of arguing, I got them to pay for half of the brake job. I called other dealers in the area and was told that they did not have any problems machining the rotors and that I should be able to get two sets of pads for a set of rotors. Seems to be a lot of inconsistency here...Something is not right.
  • ensyensy Member Posts: 18
Well, here in Canada we certainly get an arrogant response on the brake issue (see post number 767 for chapter 1 of my story). I got my reply to my complaint to the Canadian president, or should I say I got a reply from the Manager, Customer Services. Apparently the president is too busy to reply to a letter addressed to him personally and asked her to reply instead. The terse three sentence letter acknowledged receipt of my complaint to the president, expressed regret for my sentiments and then referred me to their earlier letter (copy attached to their tome) that "outlines our corporate position on this matter." So, no relief for the unnecessary and premature expense of replacing brake pads and turning rotors at just 24,000 km. In their eyes, the case is closed. Yikes!!!! I must say that I am appalled at this and am left with a terribly bitter taste in my mouth! I am now on the verge of dumping this thing. But before I do, I intend to make a few worthwhile public statements to potential buyers of Infiniti here in Canada to help them to make a wise and informed choice. Is this the "Total Ownership Experience" they tout on their web site? I hope not....
  • msisengmsiseng Member Posts: 369
It appears many owner's have issues with the same things. I am sorry people have to endure the same troubles I deal with. I would be happy if my worst enemy had to deal with Infiniti :-)

The worst thing is the car maker's "no care" attitude. They only contacted me when I made a federal complaint. The solution was/is unacceptable.

In my humble opinion, the current Mission and Vision statements are outlined below. Infiniti executives can discuss during the next board meeting:

    Infiniti Current Mission Statement -

"We are a world leader in selling and then forgetting what truly matters: The Customer."

    Infiniti Current Vision Statement -

"In three years we wish to drive many people mad. As madness takes its toll, we will be able to provide customers with exact change because the buck will never slow down at Infiniti."

BTW - stillen.com has nice rotors and brake pads for those needing them. The prices are a little higher than stock. Another Infiniti service manager (different dealership) told me they are top-quality. When it comes to safety, I will pay more. Of course, Infiniti should do the ethical thing and recall the rotors and brake pads.

I was turned off the most by the dealer and company attitude as well. Paying $545 for brake job (including the new rotors) did not help either. The company knows they have problem with the premature pads and rotor wear, but want the customer to pay for their faulty design. I wonder how many cars will they sell if they inform the potential buyers that they will pay $550 to $800 for brake job every 15000 miles? Why they do not ever mention that the rotors are not covered? This company is cheating its way out of mediocrity as far as I am concerned. They deserve the lemon of the year award, not the car of the year.

Thanks, Mtalbot, I will try the Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Polish.

From message #808 mentioned stillen.com has rotors and break pads for G35, and I found the following break pads for my 4-door G35:

    -METAL MATRIX FRONT, 350Z / G35 NON TRACK ($55)
    -METAL MATRIX FRT RACE PAD, 03 350Z / G35 W. STD OE CALIPER ($195)
    -METAL MATRIX HPS FRT PADS, 03 350Z / G35 W/ STD OE CALIPERS ($82)
    -METAL MATRIX REAR, 02> ALTIMA / 350Z / G35 NON TRACK ($52)

    I have the following questions:
    1) Are these pads are SOFT as the original manufacture one?
    2) What is CALIPER for?

    Thank you.

Visit the government website and look at the GROWING number of front rotor and brake complaints filed. If the exact link below does not work, goto: www.nhtsa.dot.gov and search under 2003, G35 complaints.

    http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/complain/results.cfm?s- tart=16&SearchType=DrillDown&type=1&year=2003&mak- e=INFINITI&model=G35&component_id=0

I urge anyone with rotor and brake problems to fila a complaint. Someone mentioned a class action suit. If there is enough interest and people are serious, I can get the wheels turning...

According to an Infiniti Service Advisor, the Stillen pads are not as soft and do not wear as fast. Calipers hold the pads as they increase on the rotors (to stop the vehicle)

Stillen recommends using their rotors with their pads according to a company spokesperson. What are the odds they would suggest this? LOL!

    Stillen is just one alternative.

I took my car in to the Infiniti dealeship last month since the transmission was getting stuck in park and so they repaired the switch that many of you already know about. However, I also stated that my car (with 22k miles) was also making a screeching sound at the front brakes. When I got the car back, the sound was gone and I noticed on the repair sheet summary that a new brake pad kit was installed at no charge. So Infiniti apparently did the right thing by me, but the service rep never mentioned the replacement of the brake pads, and I would have thought that they would have drawn my attention to this "free" replacement. Maybe they were trying to keep it quiet? But I can't complain.

You're lucky on two accounts: getting 22,000 mi. on the brake pads and free pad replacement.

I only have 1200 miles on the car and was wondering if should I bring it up to the dealer when I take it in for other stuff? Will that help me out in the future since I am mentioning it now? Does all of this info apply to the sedan as well as the coupes? I have a sedan.

ADPCS--I have the 2003 G35 sedan purchased in April 2002 with 22,000 miles on it (previous post #813). My two cents in response to your message is that it doesn't hurt to have the Infiniti dealeship check for brake pad wear when your car is serviced regardless of how many miles are on it, but I wouldn't make a big deal about the brake pad issue unless you see a problem. I was surprised to read about all of the problems with brake pad wear that people with the G35 have been experiencing since I have not had those problems (fingers crossed), but they are obviously real for many people. Can't help but wonder whether there was a bad batch of brake pads installed on some vehicles, but it seems to me that Infiniti cannot continue to effectively deny the problem given repair numbers, especially if people are writing letters as it is in their best interest to confront the problem and make customers happy campers.

However, I have had nothing but positive Infiniti service experiences from the few problems I've experienced with my G35 (including the CD changer hanging a CD-R just in #3, for which a new unit was installed). I now have close to 23K miles, and my Goodyear tires have shown little wear thus far (and I do like to drive it), but the hood paint chips rather easily from little stuff hitting it on the highway.
