How many miles do you have on the car? If the rotors warp again after the same amount of miles or less, will you be past the warranty? If it happens a 3rd time, will you be? If not, new rotors will be needed at that time probably. Will the dealer supply the rotors under warranty? If he will, I would not be concerned right now. I would express some concern to the service tech every chance I got along the way and call the Infiniti Customer Complaint line to lodge my issue as a complaint. Unless enough people do this, the situation will not change.
I too have a rattle coming from the driver area that occurs at high speeds. It is a distinct *constant* buzzing rattle that sounds like its coming under the dash in the driver's area. This rattle started only after I sent the car in for the 2nd recall. I have sent the car in twice to the dealership to get it fixed. The first time they said they couldn't recreate it and therefore couldn't fix it. The 2nd time I got the service manager to ride with me and I recreated the rattle on the highway (the rattle is most distinct at about 80 mph and above). The service manager said he heard it and said he will get the techs to look at it. However, when I came back to collect the car later that day, the original service manager who rode with me has gone for the day and this other guy told me the techs couldn't recreate it and therefore cannot fix it. He then went on and gave me a mini lecture about how I should expect an occasional squeak and rattle as the car has a firm suspension and the "ridiculous" (i.e. 80 mph and above) speed I drive at to hear the rattle.
While I agree that one should not expect a car to be totally squeak and rattle free but this is not an occasional rattle but a constant buzzing rattle. Also, I never had the rattle until after they went in to fix that 2nd recall. Needless to say I am disappointed with my experience at this particular dealership. I will probably give it another go before I start thinking about looking for another dealership to fix the problem.
If you are not happy with the dealership, then move to another dealership. Some people live in an area with only one Infinity dealer, so this is not easy.
You are the customer and to have them lecture you is absurd. It is not like you are asking for something extraordinary. Bring your car back over and over again for more "problems." Have them fix every TSB you can print. Sooner or later, they will find and fix the rattle. You can also hold the customer satisfaction survey over their heads. They HATE that.
Infinity spends a lot of time training their mechanics and some are very good. You could also ask for the Master Techician to service your vehicle. Believe it or not, they are paid handsomely.
If you are anywhere near the Washington, DC area, I found a great dealer for service. Many on this board emailed me and had good experiences as well. It is a far drive from my home, but worth it not to hear double-talk.
Bigorange: Bravo for your suggestion. Everyone should log the same complaint. Doing so to a government agency ALWAYS gets Nissan/Infinity to act. Brakes are also a safety issue. For the "car of the year" to have such problems could spell trouble for future sales.
Am wondering...do the Maxima Sedan, the 3.5 Altima and the Z have the same brake issues (rotors and pads)?
Well, got my car back. They didn't fix it. They did tell me that Infiniti is officially working on the problem with the loose driver's, and corporate's instructions are to not attempt repairs until a new TSB comes out, as it's a waste of time and resources. Hopefully that new TSB will pop up soon. I think they're trying to avoid replacing the whole rail mechanism under the seat.. which would be about $1000 in parts.
im having similar problems, ryoken, and im getting the same runaround as you. file a complaint with the government that details the seat movement, as it is a safety issue if your seat is moving while trying to accelerate or corner. It is ridiclous for us to have these shoddy seats, as a courtesy, Infiniti should replace our seats immedeately. Please keep me posted on what your dealership tells you concerning a future tsb or fix and ill keep you posted.
Actually, mine tends to throw me forward a half-inch under heavy braking. (Rocks forward.. does not slide forward.. assumed measurement at the top of the seat, head area.)
The service advisor I use seems to be pretty straight-up about such things, and will say "I don't know" instead of making something up. So, I'm inclined to believe that Infiniti is actually working on creating a fix for this issue -- I'm just skeptical of how long it will take.
They replaced my entire seat track (or so they say) after much tenacity and badgering on my part. For the time being, the problem is remedied.
Envoydriver is right: file with the government agency and watch them fix the problem fast! As I stated before, Nissan is scared to death of a federal claim.
This link, posted previously, has been my saving grace:
Does anyone have a G35 producing a fairly loud kind of warning beep sound inside the car approximately five to ten seconds after the ignition? For over three months my local dealer has been trying to fix the problem that they had started after replacing a HVAC board that was apparently recalled. Needless to say, the car didn’t have any pitch tones during the first nine months. They tried replacing various parts but it did not help. Now they are trying to convince me that the sound is “normal” according to the Infiniti tech line. They also gave me Infiniti’s consumer affairs 1-800 # for escalation because they apparently can’t fix it. Just a quick historical background note, it took two local Infiniti dealers nine months to fix my scrappy sound from the left speaker.
They have been convincing me also that the squeaky brakes are normal.
That scrappy sound from the left speaker, does it seem like its comming from the tweeter especially during high periods of treble? how did they fix it?
What channels did u use to get that seat track replaced? My seat is getting worse the more i drive the car and even after several attempts, they have been unable to fix it. I really dont feel like driving a new car around with a broken seat until infiniti can come up with a solution just to save them money in the long run. I would appreciate any advice which might result in a rock and noise free drivers seat for my car soon.
It took you probably less than five minutes to figure it out. However, during the first nine months of two dealers troubleshooting, they were trying first to convince me that they don't hear anything, then they replaced front left door speaker, then they replaced main head unit, also forgot to take out my CDs (took me over three months to receive them back). Finally, I suggested replacing the tweeter and that was the answer. By the way, during the tweeter repair they managed to damage big time the plastic cover, which fortunately they replaced in the meantime.
man i am suprised by how much they charge for a oil change.
i went to the deal for my g35 coupe oil change and i had to wait for 2 more hours and couldnt get a loaner car , they charge me 65$ for a oil change, labor=45 the rest 20
i will never go back to infinti dealer for a oil change, dont feel like to get rip off again
My model is G35.5, only 3,500 miles. The annoying sounds exactly from the front dash/panel. It sounds like "at at at at at........" I noticed that when my speed approx. 60mph on freeway and even 25mph on local. I tried to adjust the angle of my turning wheel but no improve. My service guy could not duplicate my problem, and he asked me to ride with their technician NEXT TIME. Even though the service dept. open at 7:30am, and even though I can get a loaner, I really tired to drive my NEW car for such repair.
In Richmond, Va. the oil change is $40. It includes synthetic oil, filter, top off all fluids, vacume, and wash. Also includes a loaner for the day.
You have to schedule in advance, 2-5 days, to get a loaner. No big deal here.....
My 7,500 mile service was $72. It included the above, plus balance and rotation.
My car will be in for the 15k mile service tomorrow. I'll let you know how much it is. I believe it includes the 7.5k plus an air filter (not cabin filter). Probably be $110. My service adviser will replace the cabin air filter at 30k.
the price for the service on every deealer is different, just make sure how much it gong to cost b4 you actually let them do it. (i thought how much it can be for a oil change so i didnt bother to ask who knows..)
plus i did call consumer affairs and the guy who talked to me says that i dont have to go to dealer for the oil change but i do need to keep the reciep if i go somewhere else for the oil change.
by the way i bought my car on the May and it's a G35 coupe, this car also have a recall on a break switch just in case some of you guys buy the same car and didnt know that..i thought only the seden had recall.
I'm still looking for some feedback from anyone who has added wood trim to the interior. Did the dealer install? What did it cost? Did you do the job yourself? What color goes best with grey interior? Where did you get the trim kit from? Etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Froze, I'm planning on getting the wood trim installed on my 04 Coupe. However, I would suggest to have the dealer do it so that if there are any flaws you still have recourse. Remember, once you install the pieces, you can't adjust them. They are on for life! Better leave it to the dealer even if it's a few extra bucks. I will guess that complete set would be anywhere from $250-$350. Just a guess.
I checked with the dealer parts dept. in Tulsa and they claimed they didn't have any wood trim kits listed for the G35. Doesn't make sense, so I may try again.
Unfortunately I can identify with your pain and would suggest filing a Federal claim using the link provided in Post #671. There are a few other claims regarding the seat tracks or are these already your filings?
Follow-up with a call to the Federal office and let Infinity Consumer Affairs (ICA) know your claim number. This is a safety issue. Document all calls (date, time, employee and what is discussed).
As mentioned, ICA is scared to death of these complaints. Your case seems cut-and-dry. Why would they not fix this correctly? Greed? What if the seat becomes dislodged and causes an accident?
Unfortunately the dealer cannot fix what ICA does not let them fix under warranty. It sounds like ICA ordered the dealer to cease and desist? Dealers want the business and the extra cash.
The dealer fixed my seat track. They said they replaced it with a new one. Who knows if this is the real truth, but it seems to be ok now. Could you use another dealer?
Your other options are to get a good attorney and or exercise your state's lemon law (or both)? This is PAINFUL, but seems to be your remaining option if all else fails.
Give the claim a try and let us know what happens.
For the life of me I can't seem to eliminate an intermittent creaking noise emanating from the left door jambe (just to the left and slightly behind my left shoulder). If I drive holding the door open (ajar) the noise essentailly disappears. I've tried applying 1/2 inch foam weather-stripping in the area and it isn't working. Anybody else have this problem?
I'm not inclined to go through all that trouble just yet. I don't feel the slight rocking of my seat is a safety issue, just an annoyance. My understanding is that dealers have been told not to keep guessing at repairs on this issue, as a TSB for the correct fix will be coming out soon. As long as it really is soon, I'll wait.
On the other hand, I'm getting a bit annoyed at the CD player jamming. I'm waiting for them to get another unit in so they can replace mine for the 3rd time. Here's my major complains about how they handle it:
* Dealers are not allowed to stock the head units, they cannot order one until yours breaks. * The unit has to be shipped out with your CD's in it, and it takes 2-4 weeks to get them back. * The "repair" takes "45 minutes" and does not qualify for a loan car, though I'm usually stuck at the dealership for nearly 2 hours every time this happens. * Infiniti/Clarion doesn't seem to want to acknowledge that this seems to be a design defect or a mass-production problem, and doesn't seem to be taking steps to correct the problem other than to just put in another unit and hope it doesn't brake, as well.
I added some more 1/2 foam self-sticking weather stripping (which you can buy at any hardware store)to the left front door post area and it has essentially solved the problem. My car is now 99% squeak-free. These squeaks can be eliminated if you tinker with the surfaces where they occur.
Is the problem with the Clarion or the Bose systems?
Just an observation: Infinity/Nissan never "owns-up" to anything. It is never a design defect or mass-production defect. They only way to effectively deal with them is to file a federal claim. Sad and a royal pain, but true. I do not blame the dealers either. They are equally as frustrated because they want the revenue.
I understand your frustration and am sorry you have to deal with this another time. Please let us know what happens.
last week i crushed my G35 coupe badly..how bad ? well image that i was going 120m/h and crushed into divider(it had nothing to do with the car i was doing some damgeruos driving with the other guy) ,the airbag of couse came off if you wonder~~~~ i didnt get hurt at all not even a scratch thanks to no window have borken(i thought they would) ,however it is going to cost about 15,ooo to repair so if you guys dont have extra money or full cover on your G ,drive it like all other cars...haha..
ps: that was fun to crush a car like that but dont plan on doing it anytime soon...lol
Are you for real? I can't imagine being so blase about destroying my car. I mean, "that was fun to crush a car like that"? Not my idea of fun, but to each his own... Glad to hear you're ok, though.
the fun i meant was the driving and the car spining right b4 it hit, not the crush, of cause no one like to crush his car like that, it was a accident some smart guy didnt see me coming and chage the lane almost hit me i was try to avoid the hit that's why the car lose the control and hit.
Just ordered a 2004 coupe with tire and wheel package. Dealer suggested that I should look into getting snow tires as the 18" tires on the coupe will not work in the Boston area in the snow. Any suggestions? Tire Rack has a Blizzak package for $1275 (tires, wheels, mount, balance, delivery). Thanks! Jerryg
I bought my G35 Sport Coupe 4 days ago. Upon driving the fourth day, I noticed that there is a brief, repetitive clicking sound that lasts for a couple of seconds upon first getting in the car and driving it. Anyone have this issue?
Secondly, and simultaneously, ever since, I've had a whining noise when driving in the 20-30 mph range. Anyone have this one?
I'm very frustrated as I've talked to the dealer and they've told me these are "normal" noises. Just thought I'd ask a bunch of other G drivers if they had these to verify that it is normal or not.
I also experienced the vibration/pulsation at low speeds - a bit worrying when you first feel it.
From reading the owner's manual (see p. 5-20 under 'Self test feature', it sounds like the pulsation may be coming from the anti-lock braking system conducting a self test.
With any luck, that's the source of your first noise.
As for the second noise, I haven't (luckily) experienced it yet.
Took a good look at the (black) leather seats on my G35 with about 17000 mi. Looks to me like they're wearing excessively with wrinkling and dulled appearance. It's not we're hard on cars, not only not abusing them, but cleaning and detailing regularly. Anybody else note this poor wear on the interior?
the thing you said about your car has happened to mine coupe also, however the nosie when you driving at low speed will be gong after the break in period( wont be as loud as b4) you also can try to turn the VDC off if it's not raining or snowing, driving with it's off can saving some gas also start faster. you will see if you drive with it on usually you need to step on the gas until almost 3000rpm then the car just start moving ,but whit the vdc off it start move b4 it resch 2000 rpm , you will see what i mean if you give it a try..
by the way you said where is the clicking sound come from? from the seat or the doors...?
crusy77, that is exactly what the first noise must be - the abs performing a self test. i just thought it odd that this is the first car that i've owned with abs breaks that does this. oh well, if it is engineered that way, guess it's just a "feature" of the g.
ethan777, glad to hear that the whining will go away. not that it is a big deal, but, bothersome...especially now that i can't help but listen for it. i will try turning the vdc off...can always go for a bit of extra acceleration.
Before accepting that these were normal noises, i went by the dealership and test drove two new g's right off the truck. Sure enough, both had the clicking noise from the brakes and the whining at low rates of speed.
I've had my '03 G35 Coupe for one week now (LOVE IT!)...and previously had a '00 Maxima (was sad to see it go). My Maxima had the Bose system as well, and sounded much better than my new Coupe...mainly due to the separate sub (I would expect the G35 sedan to sound comparable). With that said, the Coupe's system still sounds adequate...but at this point, I don't care too much as my ears are still tuned to the wonderful exhaust note!!
But would be interested to hear from anyone that has added a sub to the Coupe, and ease of the install. Thanks...
do you konw you can change the bose system sub level? ( i am not sure if that's the right name for it) you can press the buttom that you change the Bass level and press few more times you will see the one says Mid or something, change to high then you will feel the difference.however of cause that's nothing compare with a separate sub add in the trunk(but the trunk is already too small for me so not really plan on doing that)
I'm seriously considering buying a G35C 6MT w. leather. I already test drove the car and checked it out pretty well. I was wondering what is the general opinion here about one thing that bothers me quite a bit. Specifically, it's the auto up/down feature of the frameless windows. I am not exactly happy that the G35C has frameless windows because even though they look sexier, they are usually much more prone to have adjustment- and wind noise problems than their framed counterparts. I should know - I own a car with such windows now... But what really concerns me is the auto up/down because I have a feeling this is bound to wear out the mechanism rather quickly. Every time I open or close the doors, this moves the windows which is really a strain on the long run. So I'm expecting to get trouble with the windows starting to drop more than needed, get loose, get out of alignment or whatever. Have you heard about anyone having an issue regarding this?
Also, I'm not really thrilled with the cheap materials that were used in the interior. Too much hard plastic, and that painted center console... Also, when I pushed on the cabin ceiling lights to turn them on, the whole headliner was bending, feeling thin and unsubstantional... once again, that subpar material feeling that doesn't belong into a car of this caliber. Does anyone else have the same feeling, or is it just me? :-)
Oh well... still a nice car, just it's annoying to have such quibbles.
Also, why on Earth can I not get a car fully decked out with options but no sunroof? I don't fit in there with the sunroof due to me being 6' 6" tall. Talk about stupid option packaging... I can't be the only tall guy wanting to buy this coupe ;-)
well from what i know is that b/c all coupe come with the Premium Package so all cars come with the sunroof,,,,,
well i am 6'1 i dont have any problem to get in the car , however when i am sitting there, there isn't much room left on my head(i already adjust the seat all the way down)so if you are 6'6 i dont think this will be comfortable car for u to drive unless you can get used to "lay back" driving otherwise i dont really suggest u to buy the car..
Unlike other cars I've had (like my 2000 Acura TL), my new G35 doesn't get anywhere near the EPA highway mileage ratings in actual driving. Whereas the vehicle is rated at 24 mpg, I've never gotten more than 17 to 18 mpg in pure highway driving. Spoke to the dealer, and they can't or are unwilling to shed any light on this. Does anyone have similar experience with low gas mileage? Or, is this just a case of the G35 being a severe gas guzzler once the AC is on and you drive over 55 mph (I usually cruise at between 65 and 75)?
I think you may have a problem with mileage. I just completed a 392 mile tank, abut 90% highway (70-75mph average) and got 23.4 mpg. I have a sedan with 16.5K miles, and my long term average is about 19.2. My mileage has gone up 1-2 mpg from 5K - 15K miles.
