I also bought mine in Aug. 2002! I have not noticed that on my wheels yet. All I can suggest is to wax your wheels. This makes cleaning your wheels easier too. I am at 33,000 miles. After the warranty runs out, I am going to switch to some pads with low or no brake dust. That should help too. Maybe the EBC Greenstuff pads....

    Good luck!

    Hey All,

Thinking of the 2005 G35 Sedan, but has anyone else confirmed / heard about this "Sticky Gas Pedal" problem that was reported on the Department of Transportation's website? That's really disturbing...

Having the Gas Pedal stuck (and it seems that more than 1 person has experienced this), seems really dangerous/frightening to happen. It's dissuading me seriously from buying this car.

Also hearing about the various Lights coming on, etc. is tough.

    Any help, please.

Can't tell ya about the crazy gas pedal, but I did have the "slip" light issue with a '05 G35. It was the ABS control module. I've been lucky with trouble free cars until I bought this G35. This "slip" light issue was annoying and disappointing since Infinitis are reliable cars. However, I love this car so much that I would do it all over again. I test drove most, if not all, cars in this category and IMHO, the G35 has the most fun for the buck. Only the TL came close, but it's not as fun as the G35. The TL does have a nicer stereo and NAV system, but then again, it doesn't have that kick in the pants kinda fun.

Anyone have any experience using the Roadside Assistance? I unfortunately used the service yesterday and after being told 50 mins, ended up waiting 3 hours. Infiniti apologized and said they would put in a complaint against that particular service provider. I was just wondering if this is a common occurence or did I have some bad luck yesterday?

    Thanks

I take it back.... The light is back. The dealer doesn't know what to do with my car after 2 visits. If they can't find a cure after my 4th visit, I will be pursuing the Lemon Law. Fun car but the reliability is nothing to be desired. I guess I've been pretty fortunate in the past because this is turning out to be a nightmare and a great waste of time. Good luck to all.

    vmurgolo,
Good to hear things have worked out. Could you please post the address(es) and name(s) of the people at Infiniti where you sent your letter. I might need to do the same since the dealer has no solutions for my car and they are giving me the run around.

My coupe O5 has 6500 miles and I am disappointed with the acceleration at low rev. compared to my previous 03 G 35 5A sedan, although the sedan had 20 less HPs. Does it come from a different gearbox? The brakes, although good, are also equally disappointing.
Is it true or is it my imagination??

Brake dust is highly corrosive if left on the alloy wheels for any length of time. Owners of any car, not just Infiniti's, that havealloy wheels should clean the wheels frequently. Washing the wheels every 2 weeks is not sufficient if you are accumulating enough brakes dust to coat the wheels black.
  • shmoopyshmoopy Member Posts: 24
Does anyone know of a good "do-it-yourself" product that takes care of brake dust on the wheels? I'd like to protect them right off the bat.

    Thanks!
  • smartstartsmartstart Member Posts: 1
    NO................................
  • colonel35colonel35 Member Posts: 108
I stand corrected. It is corrosive, but I believe the "pitting" effects take a lot longer than two weeks to manifest itself, and few people actually wash their cars properly 26 times a year. Then again, if your wheels are "black" after two weeks, either you've got a brake problem or you're tracking the car.
  • colonel35colonel35 Member Posts: 108
I use P21S wheel cleaner (http://www.carcareonline.com/detail.asp?product_id=10401). There's lots of other "DIY" products, but don't believe any that claim to clean the wheel for you; you'll still need to work the dust off with a good wheel brush/sponge.
  • nospamnospam Member Posts: 54
If one did bring their car to a car wash religiously 2-4x per month, do you think that would prevent build-up?

Or would you really have to separately go wash the wheels by hand separately?
  • colonel35colonel35 Member Posts: 108
If you get your car washed at a BP drive-through 2-4/month, I'd be far more concerned about scratches and swirls on the paint than anything else, and the quick job they do may not effectively clean the wheels either. A good quality detailer will hand-wash the car and wheels, but such services get expensive ($30-$100+). The cheapest route is to do it yourself. If you're just concerned about the wheels, spraying on the cleaner, scrubbing, and then rinsing off shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes, but it's generally more fun to wash the rest of the car as well while you're at it. I think 1-2/month should be fine unless you're driving or living in particularly harsh conditions.

It's a DIY job if you want it done right. I have found Meguiar's works well for me (I think it's caled Hot Wheels or something like that - it's in a purple bottle)
  • prophetprophet Member Posts: 72
I found that "Turtle Wax 2001 wheel cleaner wipes" do a fantastic job on cleaning up brake dust. My 2003 530i BMW wheels were brake dust magnets but the wipes took all the effort out of washing them. I wasn't able to find it locally but purchased it on the internet.

BTW, I just traded my 2003 530i for a 2006 M35. With 800 miles on it I know I made the right choice. Great car.

Hey Eticketride! Thanks for the info. Have you had your brakes (pads) changed under the campaign to change them up to 36,000 miles? I have about the same as you, somewhere between 33,000 and 34,000. I really have not had any problem except they changed out the roof part that inserted into the sunroof. IT was not matching so they replaced it free. The dealer has checked my brakes and not recommended any change. I am afraid of getting just past 36,000 and them saying "oh, you need brakework" A classic. So I am going to ask that they change the brakes before 36,000 on my next oil change. What do you think?

posted this message on the G35 thread but this seemed like a more appropriate one...

I have a 2005 Sedan RWD automatic equipped with XM. I just happened to get XM as an additional feature, didn't really want it. Question is, is there a way to program the steering wheel controls so that when I press the "mode" button to toggle through the stereo types (e.g., AM, FM, CD, Sat), that I can "skip" the XM stations since I don't currently subscribe and don't plan on subscribing (for now)?

    Thanks in advance!

If it just two weeks, then no it won't pit your wheels. But the cumulative effect of successive two week periods, or however long you go between washings when your wheels are black with brake dust, will have a negative effect on the wheels. We have a 2000 ML320 that seems to put out a lot of brake dust and coats the front wheels black in between washings. Since I'm not the primary driver, I don't get it cleaned as often as I would like. The wheels are showing signs of pitting, but again, since it's not "my" vehicle, it doesn't get cleaned. I've asked my spouse to take it through the car wash periodically, but it doesn't get done, so it only get's washed when I get around to it, which is about twice a month. :)

I just got this message and may be too late. I know someone who submitted a claim to the BBB and got new tires. He has a 350z, but he told me about it because I have a G35 and was just told I needed new tires and I only have 16,000 on mine.

have 03 g35 sports coupe, same problem @ 16K miles, noisy when going about 40mi/hr. infiniti consumer relations tried to blame mfr. of tires, after 6 mos. wrangling with them going from tire store to different dealers, I finally convince an executive @Infiniti I had a legitimate complaint. they realigned car and paid for two new tires in front, I have now 10K miles on the new tires, no problems. I see this as basically a factory problem for not having the alignment set up at specs. so, the morale to the story, is pay for a dealer alignment when you buy a new car and the tires cost 1K to replace.
  • gee35gee35 Member Posts: 2
had the same thing happen on my coupe, if you leave the keys in the ignition and
in the on position, not running the engine and you close the doors, the computer thinks you are now driving and it automatically locks the doors, a safety factor.
dumb, because the computer should be programmed to lock the doors if the engine is running. luckily, I had the sunroof open and I jumped up and unlocked it.
    hope that helps.

    Re: Brake Dust

I always protect the chrome wheels on my Corvette Z06 with a regular application of quality carnauba wax (I use Meguire's)....the wheels are much easier to clean, and here in the far north, it helps protect the wheels from the inherent winter road-salt.

I just brought home my wife's 2005 Infiniti Sport Coupe a few days ago, and I plan to apply the same wax on those great 19" split-spoke wheels. That's my take.

I have test-driven everything in the category and narrowed my search down to the G35 and the 330Ci. Of course, there is a substantial price difference. I am going to lease, and I'm faced with a differential of between $60-100/mo. The G35X is my preference, and that is more costly, with a higher Money Factor than the G35.

    hello gee35,
I just went through my 2nd sets of Pilot tires, my 03 coupe is just over 34,000 miles. I have alignment done once per year by the tire shop. How did you get those big shot executive to pay for your tires and alignment? Could you share with us a little more information on how do I go about to get this problem fix? Thanks in advance for your information.
p.s. got a set of 18" Cooper Zeon on it now, a little soft but for the money I think these are excellent tires. (had about 200 miles on the tires)

    Hello,

I just bought an 04 g35x and installed a child safety seat in he center position using the LATCH connectors. While looking through the car's manual, I read that you should NOT put a seat in the center position.

This was a warning box and it was right under a picture of the coupe. The coupe's backseat looks like it has a hump in the center that would prevent the installation. I am just wondering if that warning applies only to the coupe? There was nothing other than the position of the warning that would seem to limit it to the coupe.

I had no problem installing the seat (rear-facing infant seat), but I am concerned about this warning. As I understand it, the center position is the safest and I would like to keep it there if it is safe for the g35.

    Anyone have any insight?

    Thanks.

Please help confirm or deny what these guys at the dealership are telling me...I bought a new red G35 coupe Friday - straight off the truck, I had been waiting for 3 weeks. Went there around 6pm and inspected it, no problems. Shortly before leaving, it was darker out - around 8:30 - and the florescent lighting revealed tiny micro scratches ALL OVER the car. The sales man, former mechanic, saw it and seemed concerned - called the manager on duty. That guy, saw it and said I should bring it back at my convienience and they would "buff it out". Neither of them said they had seen it before.

I bring it back and first talk to the manager about it. It's daylight and he can't see how many there are, but he can see them in the shaded garage. He goes into this story about how it just happens from normal washing yada yada. I confirm how MANY there are and it was like that before I got it. He agrees to try to do something.

I go in to the service manager, he comes out, sees it right away and appears concerned. Says "I wouldn't buff that car, but I'll have to do what I'm told". I asked him what he would do if his brand new car off the truck was like that and he basically didn't respond.

At this point I'm basically wondering whether I push for another car if they can't fix it or go for something free like service for a year or two. The manager said something could be worked out regardless.

Next day they bring it to another place that specializes more than they do in body work. At 11 today I get a call back saying they said "all cars are like that, you just can't see it on metallic models, nothing is wrong".

So my question to you guys: Are they bsing me? How can the salesman, the guy in charge that first night and the service shop manager show concern - then the response come back as "nothing's wrong"? Does your car have it? They said Red and Black show it a lot. You can best see it in a dark room with florescent lights. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

Just got my new 2005 G35 and drove it for the first time at night and when I got into the garage I played around with the automatic and manual headlights and one of the headlights went out but then it came back on. It did this twice and now it works. Dont even know what the dealership can do if it doesnt happen when they have the car. Anyone else have this happen? I am so disappointed..I only have a 100 miles on the car. Could this be the elec wiring rather than the bulb?

I have a laser red 05 coupe. I noticed all the scratches when I had a clear bra put on the front end. The guy was using halogen lights when applying it and it showed every little swirl mark. He told me every car is like this. It is more noticeable with this color and the fact it is non-metallic paint.

I have an 05 G35 Sedan with 1,200 miles. I have taken two 60 mile plus trips in the last week and have had the low pressure sensor come on both times. I have not bothered the dealer at this point, but I will if it happens again.
  • deantdeant Member Posts: 2
I have an 05 with auto transmission. It seems once the car is really warmed up, there is a high pitched hum that is coming from either the transmission or rear differential. It's most noticeable when the speed is between 45 and 60 MPH. Has anyone else noticed this?

yes mine was on the fritz. I went to my dealership and they told me it was the pressure. Come on.....

It was not and when I brought it back they told me that they had never had to replace the sensor and i was wrong...

I went to another Infiniti dealership and they replaced it. No longer a problem...

    Driving a 04 G35X. 17k driven.

Had the tire pressure monitor light up... had a flat on in the rear passenger tire. Changed out flat with full size spare. Light went out.

Last week the tire pressure monitor light up... had a flat on the rear driver tire Changed out flat with full size spare. The light is still on after a week. Dealer claiming spare tire's sensor isnt setup with the monitoring system, therefore the light is on... what kind of BS is that?

Dealer claiming the monitoring system needs a reset and will cost $90.

No wonder Infiniti has a hard time selling cars.

    Love my car, dealer SUX.

Can anyone recommend decent replacement tires for the G35 Sedan that get decent wear yet handle decent ? Not Good Year though.

I own an 05 with 3,000 miles on it and experience the same irritating creaking noises at the top of the door jams, particularly on the passenger side. Tech said they found "regulator panel loose" in door, removed and replaced door panel and tightened everything. This may have helped a little but very little. Noise only comes on certain types of bumps but I can hear it even over the radio which is a royal pain. Interesting I've found the noise goes away when the window is opened a crack. Seems to be movement of the window/window frame. Will look into this problem some more with return trip to the dealer.

I have a problem with my new M35 - I know this is the G35 forum but both cars use the same engine so maybe this problem has occured with the G35.

When I park my new M in the garage I listen to the car cooling down. I concentrated on the exhaust manifold where it connects to the exhaust pipe underneath the rear of the engine. As the car is cooling I hear alot of small crackling sounds from there (maybe metal cooling and contracting) but after 3-4 minutes I usually hear a clanging sound - kind of like a small chuch bell chime. Wait another 4-5 minutes and I hear it again. Sometimes I hear it a third time.

I know this isn't normal - just wondering if any members of this forum have any ideas as to what is making the sound.

    Thanks

"It's OK honey, all new cars do that." - National Lampoons Vacation.

No, I can't say I've had that problem on my 05 G35x (2600 mi.) I did however nitice the creaking problem near the driver's side door vent/door jam area. Heard it last week while hitting certain bumps. Haven't noticed it lately but it drove me nuts that one day.

After not using the air conditioning on my '04 G35 sedan for several months during the winter, I recently turned it on. Out came a terrible mildew-like putrid smell. It improved with time on, but reoccurred after turning the air conditioning off and the on again. Anyone else have this problem or a advice on a solution? Thanks.

Would appreciate input from any other G35x owners out there.

I have a 2005 G35x sedan, which I love. It has about 1000 miles on it. I have noticed however, that there is a slight creaking/clicking noise, which lasts for about 1-2 seconds, when the car is accelerating past about 10 miles per hour.

The noise only occurs when the car is cold, and seems to come from the dashboard / floor area. Since the AWD system in the G35x is supposed to switch from 25/75 torque split to 100% RWD at about 12 mph, I suspect the noise is related to the electro-magnetic clutch action. Again, it only occurs once, when the car is first accelerating from a cold start.

Has anyone else heard this? If so, any opinion as to my theory? Has anyone mentioned it to their dealer?

Many thanks in advance for your input.

    Shmoopy :confuse:

I also have the same problem with the creaking noise around the door panels. I noticed this noise as soon as I hit the interstate after taking delivery of my G35x. I tried to find the source of the problem, which seems to be around the A/C vent area near the door. This noise is both on the driver and passenger side. When you spend over $30k on a vehicle, you do not expect these kind of issues.
  • vtmetsfanvtmetsfan Member Posts: 8
The noise from my G35x sounds more like the A/C system triggering than a creak. But yes, I do get that noise once I go beyond 10 MPH. And it always happens when I'm heading to work.
  • ljwalters1ljwalters1 Member Posts: 294
"I read that you should NOT put a seat in the center position [using LATCH]"

That is generally correct. The LATCH system must be used in pairs - the left latch and right latch of the same set must be used so that if the car stops short, the pressure is applied to the latch set as it was intended (and tested).

I don't have a G35, but most cars don't have a set of latches for the center rear seat. What you've probably done is used the left latch of the passenger-side latch set and the right latch of the driver's-side latch set. This is a "no-no" b/c pressure will be applied to each latch set unevenly and it's not tested for this (DISCLAIMER - I don't know physics or anything, but this is how it was explained to me).

The quick way to tell if you have a latch set for your rear-center position is to count the latches. If you have 4, you only have them for behind the driver and passenger. If you have 6, you have a middle set for the center.

Remember, the LATCH system just makes it easier to install correctly. If you won't be removing the carseat often, there's nothing wrong with using the seatbelt to install the seat. Of course, if the center belt has a shoulder strap, they are more difficult to do correctly.

Sounds like the ABS self-check. This is briefly covered in the owners manual ... and there have been discussions about it on the g35 driver forum.

Hi rblakelyvo. Where you able to get the dealer to fix this wind noise problem?

I have an '03 Coupe AT w/ Premium Package, Wheel Package (18" wheels), and Navigation system. And I too have the same irritating wind noise problem. It seem to be coming from my left shoulder. I check the door seal, and everything seems to be snuggly fit. The noise seem to start when the speed gets higher then 40 mph.

Anyone else have this problem also? Where you able to fix it?
  • tbnguyeny3ktbnguyeny3k Member Posts: 3
My bad... First time posting, so I didn't know that the message did not include the original message.

Anyways, the problem I am encounter is a wind noise problem when my car goes faster then 40mph. You can hear a loud wind noise (like when you crack your driver window a little to let in some air) on your left shoulder.

This noise gets louder as I driver faster, its so irritating. The noise is like a chinese torture chamber. Its just a constant hissing sound... I eventually have to turn on the Radio to 10 in order to drown out the noise.

Has anyone else experience this problem? If so, how did you fix it? Greatly appreciate a response.

I have a 2004 G35 6mt w/14k miles. I have recently been experiencing a popping/squeeking sound when the clutch peddle is both pressed and released. A slight vibration can also be felt in the peddle. I have isolated the sound to be coming from nearby the slave cylinder or inside the clutch housing. Has any one experienced this problem or have any idea as to what the cause could be? It sounds like it is come from the swing arm inside the clutch housing!?!

If you find out what's causing this please let me know. Mine has the same noise.
