I have an '05 G35 Sedan. Coming from a BMW M3, this is overall a much better car at half the price, and a lot less maintenance problems. However, I have an interior "rattle" that is driving me nuts and I can't find it. I know it is in the passenger area somewhere - it sounds like it is in the sunroof or headliner, but no luck on locating it. Anyone else have a similar issue or discovered a fix?
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
Here's a dumb one but I'll post it anyway. I also had a rattle from the same area for a week. Drove me crazy! Turned out to be my sunglasses in the holder! The arms were vibrating. I felt pretty lame with the bad thoughts I had for Infiniti. Anyway, maybe it's just that simple.
  • kdeekdee Member Posts: 5
Yep, I have checked all of the "gotcha" things like stuff in the glove box. I have emptied out everything. It is definitely coming from the headliner or top of the passenger door frame. Problem is I just can't locate where!! Driving me nuts. It's like a "clicking" sound - very weird. The good news is it does it most of the time, so hopefully even the service guys can hear it tomorrow.

I have that same problem. I don't know what it is, but I thought it had something to do with me living in humid Texas and keeping my car in a garage that is not well ventilated. (There is no door to my garage except the garage door which is only opened twice a day, once when I drive out and once when I drive in. I live in an apt. complex.) Someone help?
  • joeshanjoeshan Member Posts: 70
Had one from the same side too. Service guys solved problem by sticking neoprene pad (1"X1") between inside of windshield and dash cowling on the right side, near the interior temperature (?) sensor. RotsaRuck !

Not sure if this is relevant however on 3/5 my G35 coupe w/ 1700 miles experienced a similar malfunction. While accelerating from a stop I noticed the RPM's at around 5000. I was on flat ground traveling at 5 mph!! The car didn't want to go at all. I pulled over cycled through the auto transmission modes, shut off the car and then restarted; the tranny was still not responding.
The dealer has had my auto since 8am Friday 3/6 and as of this writing I still am driving a loaner car. When I called the dealer and infiniti customer care, they told me I needed some valve that operates in unison with the tranny, however, the part is on back-order and they can't tell me when I might receive it since they don't have one of this particular component in Japan or the U.S. Makes me wonder if perhaps this is a widespread problem.

I noticed the same thing on my 04 G35x. The car also has a lot of noise ( from exhaust) when I accelerate. Switching from a Lexus to G35, this is really a lot of noise for me. I am not sure if everyone else has this issue, but I want a quiet and smooth ride. I understand this is a sporty car, does anyone know if I can reduce the exhaust noise ?
    thanks

If it makes you feel any better, there is a slight dent in my door's arm-rest, too. It bugged me for a while, but you can't even see it unless the light shines just right. Must be a manufacturing defect.
  • kdeekdee Member Posts: 5
Thanks for the input. Today the dealer "lubricated" the door rubber molding and it has helped, but it is still there. I will ask them to give your fix a shot.

Hello, I own a 2004 G35 Sedan. Has the same problem with the rear passenger door and how it was resolved (once we found out how to reproduce at will). By the way, the first time they tried to fix, they had the same diagnosis. Like you this did not fix the issue. This probably sounds like a wood door creaking. I found 2 ways to reproduce, 1-Open the door wih the window all the way up, you should be able t ohear it, however faintly. 2- Press (gently) the chroime strip below the window, at some places you should hear the problem again. This is kinda hard but once you hit that spot you cna pinpoint it/The problem was the rubber around the bottom chrome strip of the window. Dealer replaced that and not the cars quiet! Good luck!

I had a similar problem with my 2005 G35x. In my case the creaking sound came mainly from the center dash (near the shifter). I brought it in for service and the dealer added some insulation around the under plate of the shifter. I have not heard the noise since the service has been performed, which is approximately 2 months. I hope this helps.
  • tonyg35xtonyg35x Member Posts: 2
I experienced the same noise from the door panel of my 2005 G35x. It would happen when driving over 30mph. I finally isolated the sound and discovered it was the side door glass. You can confirm this by applying pressure to the glass while you drive (i.e., put your hand on the glass and push towards the door,as if you were opening the door) . You shouldn't hear the sound when you do this. When I told the service department they said a technical bulletin was available on it and they should be able to fix it. It seems the door glass is rubbing against some of the door material. Since it has been serviced the sound has been reduced dramatically.

    Hi, everyone.
I'm about to take my G35 for a big repair to Rosenthal Bodyshop (in Mclean, Virginia) referred by Rosenthal Infiniti in Vienna, Virginia. Dose anyone have any experience with this bodyshop? Any recommendation for an bodyshop in DC metro area? Thanks!
  • cheerioboy26cheerioboy26 Member Posts: 412
My experience with them is with a small repair. I have a 00 Maxima that was in a minor scrape, and the rear bumper was repainted. The car is grey, if it matters, and about 4 years later the bumper still looks fine.
  • vtmetsfanvtmetsfan Member Posts: 8
    Hi Tony,

Thanks for the diagnosis. So after the service, do you still hear the creaking sound, or has this noise been eliminated completely?

Hi! I need a help! Can anyone tell me why the red light flashes if you don't switch the gear after 2,500 rpm or whatever it is called. Does it flash in your car? I am talking about the red light which is flashing under REV on the screen or speedometer, whatever it is called.
  • jayellesevenjayelleseven Member Posts: 150
haha. The red light is the rev/shift light. So when its flashing it means you are suppose to shift. NOW, you can change the setting you have on right now (2500 rpm which is pretty low, mines like 3200) by pushing the trip odometer button until you find the rmp setting number (it should show like your milage but as rpms so only by increments of 100). Then you hold the button and the rpm numbers will start blinking. If you push the button while they blink, you will increase the rpm shift setting by 100. Set it to a really high number if you don't want it distracting you. I like it tho, it looks tight and reminds me of when I am going too fast on a single speed! haha thats all it is tho, jus a simple shift reminder!

Ok i ran into a stupid trash can goin REVERSE! And so my driverside mirror got messed up! I thought it simply flipped back but it only moves when you hit something going forward!!! Man! Does anyone know how much the replacement part is that attaches the mirror to the door. I drive an 05 Coupe, not sure if its diff for the sedan. The piece looks to be made out plastic and its very stiff but I was stupid enough to manage to crack it! How much do you all think the repair will be???

I have an 05 with 1400 miles on it. It isn't an AWD, but it makes that very sound you mentioned. When the car has been turned off for a few minutes or more and start it up again, it makes a grunting or growling noise for a second or two at about 10 MPH. It does it only once. It has done this since day one when I picked it up. I think it's in the Tranny, but I'm not for certain. When I go in for my first service, I'll have them check it out.

I recently bought a 2005 G35 and have been experiencing a strange rattling sound on the dashboard where the clock/compass/temp. area is. I have brought my car back to the dealer 3 times now and they still have not been able to fix the problem. They replaced the panel on the dashboard covering the clock and added sealent underneath the panel, but the rattling sound is still there. Has anyone else run into this problem? And if so, how did Infiniti fix the problem? It's really frustrating to have a one month old car make the noise one would expect from a 10 year old car...
  • shmoopyshmoopy Member Posts: 24
    realty_pro,

After looking through the owner's manual (as per earlier advice on this board), I found that the noise is a normal ABS system check that the car automatically performs each time you drive off. It is referenced in the manual, somewhere in the ABS system portion.

How do you like your '05 otherwise? I love mine.

Infiniti makes a great looking and mechanically sound car, but they cannot manufacture a car that doesn't sound like a bowl of rice krispies right after the milk gets poured...! I have an 05 G35 sedan (auto), but everytime I get in it, it has a new creak, tick, rattle, something. Make sure your problem is isolated to the area you mentioned. Due to the acoustics inside the cabin, it can be coming from another location (e.g. the gear shift area for example is a common one). If you know it is around the clock area, try hitting the entire area with silicone spray. I have found that helps. Best fix is for Infiniti to use better materials on the interior. Good luck.
  • kdeekdee Member Posts: 5
You are correct. It is the resetting of the brakes every time the car is restarted. Very normal operation (once it was explained to me).
  • realty_prorealty_pro Member Posts: 85
    shmoopy,

Thanks for the information. I will read the ABS section of my manual. I'm so glad you told me this, as it was starting to really bother me.

Other than that issue, I love it. IMHO, there is no better looking car on the road. I have a sedan, black exterior, a stone interior and the sport suspension with the 18 inch rims. It looks awesome & handles like a dream. Tell me about yours.... .

Hi, New 6 MT sedan, 200 miles. When starts to move, there are squealng noises from the rear wheel area. Question: Can small gravel, cr6 aggregate etc get stuck somewhere in the wheel/brake mechanism? TIA (BTW Noise cannot be heard inside the car, noticed by a colleague when i left the office, she called me and I made my son drive and confirmed the quite loud noise from outside)

    realty_pro,

'05 G35x (AWD) sedan in brilliant silver w/ stone interior, premium "C", NAV, XMSR, etc. (the works).

About 1800 miles so far, no problems. I suppose I preferred the Bose stereo in my old '95 Maxima, but that's splitting hairs. The G35 stereo is good, and these days I don't blast the volume like I did in my 20's! Besides, the extra 90hp and gobs of other amenities makes up for any minor shortcomings in the stereo.

Had it up to about 105 mph so far (for a few thrilling seconds). She handles like a slot-car in the turns. I wish I had a reason to drive out to Montana this summer and open it up big-time!

105 mph? Boy, you were really moving. Better watch the State Patrol--LOL!

I, too, would love to open it up on a long empty stretch of highway. I bet these cars really run.

BTW, the brilliant silver is hott!

Hi had mine up to 125mph G35X rear spoiler and I had to say it drove like a charm it was silent the 0.26 drag and the zero lift in the front and back makes a huge difference !!!!!!! (had had plenty power left) Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I replaced my tires with Cooper Lifeliner. These were 17 inch tires. My G35 is a 2003 sedan. Out the door price with oil change slightly under 600. These are alot cheaper than Goodyear or Bridgestone.

    good luck!
  • idr2000idr2000 Member Posts: 3
Complain about the brakes making noise. My dealer replaced front and rear at about 34000 miles. Buy another service at the same time so they replace them. A brake job is expensive on the G35 at an Infiniti dealer.

    Good luck!

I have an 03 with Bose and the center console has recently decided to act up. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't work, I can still operate the stereo through the steering controls, but not being able to control the A/C from the last setting or eject and insert cd's is definitely annoying. I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing to repeat how to get it to work or what makes it stop. Any ideas?

hi guys. How are the Coupes doing so far? I want to ask you some questions.

    1) My 6MT coupe is new it has 300 miles on it. The Thing is that I expected it to be much more faster before i bought it. May be I have to drive it at least 2000 miles and then check it again whether it is fast enough. Is your coupe the same? Any suggestions how to improve acceleration?
    2) The speakers on the rear deck are much more larger than front door speakers, But they suck. when i switch to rear deck speakers they sound low. Front speakers are much more powerfull. Is it same in your car?
    3) Finally, when i push the gas (or acceleration pedal) without pushing clutch, it sounds different than pushing both of them together. Try it by holding clutch and pushing gas pedal few times. then try it withoun holding the clutch. feel the difference?

Please answer as many questions as you can. Thak you in advance.

Test drove a '03 G356MT yesterday, noted that shifting gears was kinda rough, as if it catches. I've test driven a '05 TL which has a very smooth shifting. Does the '05 G35 shift the same way as the '03 or is there any clutch adjustments that needs to be setup?
  • jayellesevenjayelleseven Member Posts: 150
The Coupes are doing jus Fine! Mine's fly, maybe ill put a pic or 2 up...

1/ Break It In. Yeah doesnt feel to fast at first but break it in to at least like 700 miles or 1K. Mine has about 800 and Ive kinda been runnin it, not too hard tho. Yet I can feel the speed now, your passengers head will jerk with your 1st to 2nd gear shifts! You feel the real power of the V6 once you pass 4 thousand RPMs. Other than that, you're shifting jus has to be really good. Jus remember, its a heavy car so don't expect to be getting 0-60 under 6 secs with 3 passengers!

2/ Im not sure of the speakers. First off the sound system isn't bad but its not loud enough! Im assuming you have the stock system... What you'd really have to do is add a subwoofer, not really a whole new system, less you jus like to bump your music. I keep mine with a slight fade to the front or rear, either way, its not excellent and its not bad!

3/ Its because of the clutch being in, it means the transmission isnt in gear to power the engine! Once you have no clutch, you hear the sweeter sounds/Massively Explosive sounds of the engine and exhaust, which is NICE! I say you jus don't mess with your clutch, if you're reving the engine, jus leave it in neutral!
Now, Im 19, you might want answers from some older folks on herre, haha
  • jayellesevenjayelleseven Member Posts: 150
The 05 shifting is much better, Ive heard, havent driven the 03 or 4's but the throws are shorter and you jus have to become accustomed to the clutch. Like in any car, once you 'get used to it', shifting is good, and believe me, the new 6MTs shifting is pretty damn good

I have a 2003 G35. The car started putting out a big cloud of white smoke when I started it up so I called my dealership to have them look at it. It was Memorial weekend and they were booked until the next week. Over the weekend I took it to a local lube shop to have them check the fluid levels. Everything looked fine. The next day the smoke started up again so I took it back to Infiniti. They said the engine was fine and it was a fuel filter that needed to be changed. The next day the smoke started up again. I made another appointment but before I could get there I started hearing an awful noise when I stepped on the gas. The car had to be towed to Infiniti. Infiniti said it was the lube company's responsibility and wouldn't touch the car. I had the lube guy go up there, he put more oil in the car and I drove it home. You guessed it, the car started smoking when I tried to start it later that day. Infiniti is trying to put the blame on the Lube guy even though the smoke problem was there before he even saw the car. I find it hard to believe that if the car had no oil in it that they didn't catch that when they sent me home with a fuel filter which they later said was the air filter. Infiniti is full of it and I will NEVER buy from them again. I now have a non functioning G35 lemon!!!!

I understand your frustration, but don't give up yet. Ask to speak with the service manager and explain that the problem started before the lube shop, and that all they did was inspect the fluid levels; it's not like they installed after-market parts which caused this ordeal in the first place. Also, by the way, servicing a car by yourself or by another mechanic does not violate your warranty. If they're unresponsive, I'd either try another dealer nearby (and don't bother mentioning the lube story, since it's obviously not really relevant), and/or contact Infiniti customer relations (the 800 number is on their website). Each dealer is independently owned and operated; you may have just been given the shaft by a single service rep. I'd also avoid driving the car until it's fixed.

Looks like most G35 folks are seeing brakes go before 35-36k miles. now infinity is replacing these up to 36k miles.. if yours are not making noises you better check them.
I noticed with this brake design the caliper has some pressure on the rotor at all times,,,, bad news for owners,, good for quick brake resopnse however.
  • frisconickfrisconick Member Posts: 1,275
Yes, don't drive your car until you get this fixed. I would be much more aggresive with the deal. Demand that they fix the car, lube guy is not the problem.
  • g_forceg_force Member Posts: 12
The Infinity Customer Service Hotline is a joke. They don't care what your problem is. All they need to know is where the dealer is that you are having problems with so they can call and say, "hey we have a customer that is not happy with you." The dealer STILL has the ultimate decision whether anything gets done. The Customer Service number won't get a thing done!

I noticed a "clicking" noise upon shifting into gear and accelerating from a stop. Not a continual click, just once as I moved the car-shift & click, seemingly from the right rear. To me, it sounded like either old U-joint (I know that they're not on this car) or bad suspension bushing (metal on metal) click.
As I'm planning a long trip soon, I made an appointment with Pepe service. When finished, service said that lower control arm bolt was loose. Yoikes! If that bolt had worked itself out while doing 70, boy, that would leave a mark. No damage was found, and all others were checked (they were fine).
Also, tech reported that front discs were showing abnormal wear (a "ridge" was found in one rotor) so they replaced front pads & rotors.
Car has only 7k miles on it.
P.S.: loaner's (18k) Bridgestone Turanzas with plenty of treadwear left were louder than my Goodyear RS-As, and tech said that my car was one of the better looking cars that come in (Garnet Fire and Zymol! :) )

I have an 04 MT6 with 11K on it. I noticed something the other day that I thought was weird. I was setting in my garage and just playing with the throttle, (can I say that?) listening to the engine. I could get the engine to rev to, say, 2300 RPM and HOLD the pedal there, but the engine would spool up by itself with no change in pedal pressure about another 300 or 400 RPM. It was weird!! I played around a bit at other RPM settings. It would also rev erratically at around 1100 RPM. Actually I couldn't hold 1100 RPM, but could get 1000RPM and 1300 RPM. Makes shifting a little tough when throttle position changes each time you go through the gears. While this is just a slight irritation, the car is still awesome to drive.
  • g_forceg_force Member Posts: 12
Buyers/Owners beware.... I found out that Infinity has a policy that after 12k miles are driven on your car and you have a problem like I do, my passenger window will roll down by itself after it's rolled up, that the dealership will charge you for an "adjustment fee". The dealer claims that my passenger window is out of timing or adjustment and requires a dealer visit to fix. Isn't that a crock!!! I hate this dealership, Tim Dahle of Salt Lake. They are in the business for themselves and not the customer!!!! Bad advice has even cost me a set of tires prematurely. My tire pressure sensor kept alarming me that one or all of my tires were low. Seems that winter driving on my 18s will cause that so the fix was to OVER INFLATE the tires a little to fool the sensor. Well I did just that, running 36.5 PSI over the recommended 35 PSI. My back tires were wore out at 8K miles, and of course Infinity said that this wouldn't cause the wear. It's not rocket science, the tires wore out in the middle of the tread, what else could it be? I still enjoy the car, I'm just not happy with those incompetent kids in the service department. If this is a problem in your neck of the woods, use nitrogen instead of air to inflate your tires and you will never run into this predicament.

Clear Bra is just a brand name. I have it on my MT6 and waited about a month too long to get it done. I have some chips under the material that show. my car is BLACK. I highly recommend getting it done........and ASAP. don't settle for how much it costs, settle for a quality job! The "mask" covers the bumper, headlights, mirrors, fenders, lower air damn, and the hood. I recommend having the back bumper covered where you load and unload clubs and stuff in and out of the trunk, and a small amount below the fuel inlet door.
GET IT DONE, you will not regret it!! There is nothing to maintain. It will save the front of your car! And if you have the option, get the hood covered as high as the installer will allow. The coupe sets lower so it gets a lot of freeway punishment.
  • g_forceg_force Member Posts: 12
yeah mine is doing this as well. I found that if you fill the tank a little slower that it seems to go away. I have NAV and haven't noticed a change in the "miles to empty", but will check it next time I fill up.
  • g_forceg_force Member Posts: 12
My advice is DON'T DO IT!!!! I drove my MT6 last winter here in Salt Lake. Wore out the OEM tires and saw GOD twice. The tires are not for any driving conditions other than ideal. Cold weather below 40-45 degrees makes the tires real hard and prone to premature wear. The MT6 has a bit too much horse power for snow and rear wheel driven makes for some dicey experiences. I know, I saw me do it. Recommend a beater car for winter or take the bus. I believe Goodyear Blitzaks are available, but only if you have a fat wallet and want to trade them out when winter is over.
