Hello, I own an '04 G35 coupe MT6. I have about 18,000 miles on it. The brakes have been making a loud noise for several weeks now. It happends once in awhile. The dealership said the brakes had about 75% of meat left on the pads for my 15,000 mile service. I was still concerned, so I went to Firestone to get a second opinion. They told me that the brake pads are fine and have 75-80% of life left. They also said that the reason the brakes are making a loud sound was because the manufactor installed cheap brake pads on them.

I went to pick up 2006 G35X w/ Premium C etc. The car was inside the showroom. Last week I had driven a 05 model and made a deal on 06.
Before signing the paperwork, I insisted on driving it. First thing I noticed was that the turn signals did not work. The salesman explained that the prep guy forgot to insert the "fuse" for the turn signals. Everything else was working.

Next on highway, I noticed the car does not hold a straight line. It pulled to the left. The salesperson said it is probably "the crown" of the road. So I moved over to the right lane. The car still pulled to the left. He then said that it is probably the tire pressure.

So we went back to the dealer and he had the service manager take the car in and adjust pressure. I went back out on another test drive and now noticed that the car is pulling to the right.

The only thing unique about this 2006 G35x was that I had the dealer install the 18" sport wheel package. That option is perfectly legal on G35 sedans. He said the pulling probably has something to do with those wheels? :confuse:

Any idea? Needledd to say that I did not sign and take delivery. I am not convinced that it is simple problem. I will go back to the dealer this coming Saturday and drive a 2006 G35X w/o the 18" wheel.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hi, I have an 05 coupe 6mt with nav. I was thinking about getting the windows tinted but wanted to check if anyone else had any problems after tinting. I've heard cases where tinting with a metallic film (which is the better one that lasts longer) can cause the radio to not have good signal strength or the nav to be messed up (on other cars, ie. acura). I want the better tint so that it wouldn't peel in the future. Can anyone give me any input on this? Thanks!
  • beanctrbeanctr Member Posts: 99
    toann,

I would suggest you check out 3M tint. Around 3 years ago they came out with a special tint (can't remember the name) that was more durable and effective than the "base" tint they sold -more on par with the effectiveness of the tint that had metal in it. I have had it on the back window of my maxima for three years and have been happy with it. I have also had experience with the "base" 3M tint on another vehicle and was happy with it too (no peeling). Who knows they may have something even better out now. The shop that did the tinting encouraged me to stay away from the tint with metal in it. Hope this helps.

I'll check that out, thanks for the advice.

Hi, is anyone experiencing warm air from the vents when the climate control is off and the air is just blowing in from the outside when driving? This makes the car very warm. I've never experienced this on any other cars. Does anyone have any input on this? Thanks.

Out of frustration with the same problem, I found this website and your posting. After a couple of thousand miles, my G35X started with the same irritating noises from all of the door frames, sometimes there, sometimes not and goes away when window lowered slightly.

    Have you resolved your problem?
  • andy2812andy2812 Member Posts: 79
I also have a 2005 G35x with excessive brake and rotor wear. To begin with, there is way too much brake dust on my wheels. At 6,000 miles I started noticing a grinding sound as I came to a stop and after a while I could look thru the wheels and could see that the front rotors were scored. In addition I am getting a loud squealing from all 4 wheels. I took it to the dealer and they had to resurface the rotors. Within 2 weeks it again started the grinding when coming to a stop. I took it back and this time they replaced the brakes and rotors. After another 1,000 miles the same thing is happening again and you can see that they new rotors are already scored again. I took it back to the dealer and spoke with the service manager who acknowledge that there is still a problem but he doesn't know what to do to fix it. He told me to call Infinit Consumer Affairs to see what to do next. They are going to send a Divisional Technical Specialist to look at my car but it is very disappointing that this problem keeps happening on a $35K car

As it is, right now I am driving the car with rotors that are not smooth. In fact, I doubt that the car would pass inspection in NY State with the rotors the way they are.
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
That really sucks  I have 7,500 miles on my G, and have had absolutely no issues with them. Car stops great, no brake fade, and the rotors look good.

That just seems really odd. Do you drive especially hard? I might try another dealer if these guys don't have any ideas left on fixing your problem. Good luck and let us all know if you find a solution.
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
My 05 G35X just hit 18K miles on original pads/rotors. Brakes are smooth but I have developed a small squeal when the brakes are cold. Last service at 15K miles they told me I was at 30% wear and I will report the current wear after the 18,750 mile service in a week or two.

Want to give an update on my new brake pads and resurfaced rotors. After 1,000 miles, they are making noise again.
ANYONE who has black front rims has the SAME problem.
I sent a 3 page letter to Infiniti Consumer Affairs.
Everyone should do the same. I am also telling everyone that I see with a G35X with black front rims to complain to the dealer. Now when my car goes in there every 2500 miles, I am going to insist on a brake report and hold them to it.

    Hello,

    I am looking to buy a 2003 G35.

I currently drive an 1989 acura legend with which I have not had much in the way of problems. Original rotors lasted 125,000 miles.

I have test driven a 2003 and really like the car.

What worries me is the number of problems I have read on this board. Warped rotors, squeaking noises , etc on cars that are only a couple of years old if that.

Cans someone re-assure me that this is a really solid car.

    Thank you.
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
I own a 05 G35x so I cannot comment on the 03. However, if you look at every make of car on these boards, you'll find lots of comments about problems. That is the nature of many of these topics, and people tend to post their problems not that they love the car. Generally, this should be a really good car to own long term.

I love the 05x it is an awesome drive :D

    Good luck on your search.

    Hi Dem739

What year is your car. I have a 2005 G35x and you seem to have the same problem that I have. I have brand new rotors with 1500 miles on them that are already cut up.

    Hi sdg003c,

We (ok my wife) has a beautiful, loaded, dealer serviced, 2003 g35 sedan with low miles in great condition with everything but NAV which we are considering selling because we need a wagon of some sort! Let me know if you are interested, We are in SW FL.
Oh by the way, it has been nearly flawless mechanically and has no problems whatsoever.

What dealer do you go to? The service guy at Pepe Infiniti says it's the way I am driving the car because Infiniti isn't covering them under warranty. Meaning it's not the brakes it's the driver.
I sent a 3 page letter to Infiniti Consumer Affairs last week and I am awaiting their response.
  • andy2812andy2812 Member Posts: 79
    Dem739

So it sounds like they basically saying, "we will give you a car with 265 hp but won't give you the proper brakes to stop the car without damaging it." I wonder it your car would pass a NYS safety inspection according to the letter of the law if the rotors are worn. I don't think that mine will.

I don't want to say what dealer yet as I want to give them the chance to make the problem right, but it's on Long Island. That should narrow it down.

Do you have a 2005? How many miles and what have they done so far?

I have a new 2006 M35X with the exact same problem. I found a service bulletin that might help you and your dealer. Go to www.infinitihelp.com and search under FX and 2003. Service Bulletin 04043 dated 9/07/2004 on page 2 deals with this problem and provides a dealer solution. I'm scheduled to take mine in next Tuesday. Hope this helps.

My G35 has 52k miles on it. I need to replace the air filter. I bought a new air filter at Pep Boys, and looked up the do-it-yourself section of the owner's manuel. But the manuel says to bring it to a shop for service. Why can't I replace it myself? Does anyone know the answer?

Never mind my question. I found the answer in the maintenance forum. It turns out to be quite difficult to replace the air filter by yourself.
  • g35ls6g35ls6 Member Posts: 2
the air filter should have been replaced at 30k, and do yourself a favor use a dealer air filter not to take anything away from Pep Boys but some aftermarket filters break apart and could end up on your Mass Air Flow Sensor and cause the check engine light to come on and will cause drveability problems and thats on any car not just your G.
As far as replacing it take a chance it's easy.

I have a g-35 6mt with the brembro brakes with 37000 miles and still have at least 10k more. This is the BEST car for the money! The performance and the terrific gas mileage I get is great. I just drove cross country 80-90 all the way across Route 40 and still got 23.5mpg I bought it new and love it.
  • ssmith212ssmith212 Member Posts: 3
Pepe Infiniti is the worst place to buy a car. I know many including myself that have stopped going there for service. The service dept. will always blame the problem on you or simply tell you "it's normal." Go to a different dealership( Infiniti of Greenwich is wonderful.) Also the brakes are covered under the warranty until 36,000 miles. Hope this helps.

My 2004 G35X has a weird problem. We were driving down the street at about 40 mph and suddenly every warning light on the panel turned on, the speed dropped to 20 mph, and the car would not respond to the accelerator. The engine kept running. I pulled over, stopped the car, then restarted and now have a constant "Engine Needs Servicing Soon" light. The gas cap is on tight and there are no obvious problems I can see. It goes to the dealer tomorrow, but any idea what it could be? This is the fifth major fault we have found in the car over the last 2 years. :lemon:

I'm considering buying a 2003 or 2004 G35 coupe and wanted to know if it has the same excessive tire wear and tire noise problems that seem to be so common on the Nissan 350Z. Since both cars are built on the same platform I wanted to know if this problem occurs on the G35 coupe too. Any information would be appreciated.
  • shmoopyshmoopy Member Posts: 24
Wow, never heard of such a thing! I'm no expert, but it sounds electrical.

Please let me know what the dealer says. Obviously, that is something that if it were common, they would sell no cars at all. I'm sure they'll take care of it under warranty.
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
That happened to me on my 05 x earlier this year. I called to make an appointment with the dealer but in the meantime I found out how to reset the computer either on this board or on G35Driver.com. So I performed the reset and since then, the CEL has not come back on and the car runs like new. The dealer checked for codes the next time I went in for service and found none. No guarantee this will work for you but itcan't hurt to try. Here are the instructions. Make sure to follow them precisely. And GOod Luck!

    ECU Resetting Procedures

Timing is extremely critical. If it is NOT DONE within the specify time, the ECU will not reset and the Check Engine Light (CEL) will continue to remain ON.
A stop watch or an analog clock with a second’s needle will be useful.

    Operations Procedures for Basic reset.
    1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
    2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
    3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
    4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
    5. Wait about 10 second.
    6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
    7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
    8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.

The dealer says that it was a throttle malfunction and was caused by cold weather. Kinda strange to see this problem in Texas on a G35X at about 30 degrees. I'll add it to my list of repairs over last 20 months: airbag sensor, nav system, total engine replacement, ABS sensors, and now throttle. :lemon:
  • dem739dem739 Member Posts: 24
Only the 2003 and 2004 are covered to 36,000 miles unless that has changed for the 2005 since I had my car fixed. I am pretty sure that the Greenwich dealership is owned by Pepe but they would never get away with dealing with the customers the way they do in White Plains.
I sent a 3 page letter to consumer affairs and just mentioned the brake noise in passing and the rest was about premature brake pad wear. I got a letter back that said brake noise is a problem with all manufacturers, if you have a problem other than that bring it to your authorized dealer.
They are worse than any other American can manufacturer.
  • esfoadesfoad Member Posts: 210
My dealer let slip a bomb last week when I was discussing changing my brake pads on my 05 x. They said they were pretty sure that Infiniti would extend the warranty on the 05 x's similar to the 03's and 04's. It's the first I heard of this so I thought I'd pass it on. My pads look like they will last at least 25K miles and I would have changed to aftermarket pads like Hawk or Stillen but if the warranty IS extended, I will go with factory ones. Nothing beats free, eh? I prefer not to say the dealer's name. I don't want to get them in trouble. They have been great so far. If I hear more, I will pass it on.

This morning we got a good 4-5 inches of snow fall. When I drove to work, I literally drove in heavy snow, but the AWD light was NOT on. Does it mean that the AWD is not on? How can I turn on AWD? I thought it automatically turns on when the road condition is bad and it decides AWD is ncessary??..

    Help!!
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
The AWD drive light is a warning light. You have a snow button that when turned on locks the torque distribution 50/50 0 to 12 MPH and reduces throttle response as well. The awd G35 will transfer torque automatically anytime it detects loss of traction, from up to 100% rear up to 50/50 max split. This is one of the reasons that I chose the G35x, the rwd bias awd. Enjoy your X it's an excelent winter driving car :D

  • xthecatxthecat Member Posts: 30
Yup, the tire noise is above average. My original Pilots wore out at 25K miles. The car is a GT, so your to expect this when buying it.
  • amrigf3laamrigf3la Member Posts: 1
I had a 350z that I traded in for a G35 coupe because I was tired of the tire feathering issues and guess what? the tires on the G started to feather at 11,500 miles, I am at 13600 now and the noise is unbearable. Infiniti told me there is nothing they can do for me and more than one dealership told me that it's normal. BS.
To anyone thinking of buying a G35 coupe specially with the sports package...beware. Infiniti dealers are worse than Nissan dealerships.
  • avionavion Member Posts: 3
I have the same problem. Either the heat vent is not fully closing or the fresh air duct is too close to the hot engine compartment. I've never had this problem on any other car I've ever owned. I'm going to mention this on my next service call.
  • avionavion Member Posts: 3
Even while shifting slowly and pushing the clutch to the floor, 3rd gear seems to snag a gear tooth before engaging. I would say the synchro in that gear is not doing it's job. Is this a common problem and are there any transmission adjustments that can be made?

I would like some opinions on the Infiniti navigation system. How does it compare to the Acura Nav? Any thoughts.
  • mnrep2mnrep2 Member Posts: 200
I have the Infiniti 2005 version in a g35x. The factory NAV is just ok, probably not worth the $1,800.00. I have heard that Tom-tom (sp) is better than most oem type installations. I am talking about functionality vs. price. It is not as integrated as an oem NAV, but don't forget the portability factor. Using NAV amongst whatever vehicle you are in is a nice option.

If you are determined that oem is the only type of NAV you want, I have heard the Acura NAV has many more features like voice commands than the Infiniti version. I wouldn't choose one car over the other based on this factor alone though.

Hi, maybe it is normal with the 6mt, but i need your input.

I just bought a 6mt coupe. This morning when I was sitting inside to car(car was shut off), I found that I could shift the gear shifter into any gear without pressing the clutch at all. Is this normal? Can you guys do this on your 6mt? When the engine is shut off, don't we have to press the clutch in order to shift into gears?

    Thanks

My wife's G35x has just under 14,000 miles and need new front brakes and rotors, while the rear has 80% pad left. They said she was riding the brakes. If that was so, all the brakes would be worn. With the current 4 wheel disk proportional braking systems, the wear should be more like a 60/40 wear or even close to 50/50 even wear. I screamed alot and refused to authorize the repair stating I would do an internet search on G35 braking problems. Twenty minutes later, I get a phone call stating the repair would be done for free under "customer goodwill". I think they know they have a problem but since "customer pay" pays more than warranty pay from the factory, I think the dealers always take a shot at you. SCREAM LOUD AND HARD AND YOU MAY GET THE PROPER RESULT. These brakes out to go 36,000 miles on average. Thank you Mission Viejo Infinity for stepping up to the plate.
  • pherrinpherrin Member Posts: 2
Don't worry about it. You are worrying about nothing. It is just a guideline. If you break it in too easy, it will run soft. Break it in like you are doing and it will run great. With 950 plus miles on it, I would start driving like I intend to drive it the rest of the time I own it. Just keep up the oil changes and you should have no problems. Remember, you still have a warranty so don't sweat it.

Here's a little update on my situation, although it isn't good. As of today, my car is 6 months old.

To refresh, at 6,000 miles my front brakes were grinding and the front rotors were scored. The dealer resurfaced the rotors

At 7,000 miles the front brakes were grinding again and the resurfaced front rotors were scored again. Dealer replaced the rotors and brakes

At 8,000 miles the NEW front brakes were grinding again and the new front rotors were scored again. Took it back to the dealer who told me to call Infiniti Consumer Affairs as he didn't know what else to do.

Consumer Affairs initially told me they would send a divisional techincal specialist (DTS) to look at my car. After waiting over a month for them to schedule an appointment, they now tell me that since the brakes are a maintenance item and they won't even inspect the car despite the abnormal wear that I am experiencing on these brakes. When I insisted that my car be repaired correctly as it hasn't been properly fixed from the first time I brought the car in, their answer was that since the car was fixed when I left the dealer (i.e. new brakes and rotors), it's not their problem that the brake problems keeps coming back. They said I could bring the car back to the dealer to be fixed, but CA wouldn't say that I wouldn't have to pay for repairs. Think about it, why would I pay for new brakes and rotors that might only last for 1,000 miles. CA told me to either call the General Manager of the dealership or the Better Business Bureau and that there was nothing more that they could do. It seems to me that Infiniti Consumer Affairs is no more than a sham as they've done nothing to help me, THE CONSUMER. I called the GM and he's currently looking into the problem but can't do anything until after the 1st of the year as Infinti corporate is closed until them but he assured me that he would try to solve the problem.
  • avionavion Member Posts: 3
Today I was at the dealer and the Tech said it is normal for the air coming out of the vent to be 7 degrees warmer then outside air. This occurs after the car has reached full normal temp and the vent thermostat set to 60 in econo MOD. He says the engine compartment runs hot thus warms the wall next to where the fresh air travels. If this is true, it is surely a sorry design. In the summer it makes your AC work that much harder trying to cool engine heated hot summer air!
