I actually mentioned a Miata about a year ago, heard it was really fun to drive - a friend who's a big car guy works in auto body and restoration - last guy who I ever thought drove a 1998 Miata and loved it.

My girlfriend just laughed at me.... ;)

Miata is a blast...have had one for 20 years now with 85K miles on it.

    G37 boring??? hardly!

one of the most fun cars I've ever had. Just got one in the x version in October, and she loves to run hard and fast.
  • pharm30pharm30 Member Posts: 36
there is so many dam speed cameras in and around Phoenix there's not much point to a fast car. I was driving it hard one day up a hill on the 303 and got pulled over for going 67 in a 45. Got a warning :P

I'm just saying I don't love it, so I could be saving alot of money driving something that I like and get better gas mileage.
I looked forward to starting the G35 up every day and hear the rumble.
  • dat2dat2 Member Posts: 251
I agree, the G37 is a blast, but only when it's being flogged. In normal driving, especially in stop and go driving, my coupe with a manual can be very ordinary and at times even annoyingly gritty. When it's on the open road, or a great canyon or mountain road, it really shines!! :D
  • dat2dat2 Member Posts: 251
If you're just mainly missing that rumble then get a Stillen dual exhaust on your sedan and call it a day!
  • domain311domain311 Member Posts: 26
Anyone have any experience with this? Wondering mainly how long their order took to come in once placed. I was told 90 days.

    Thanks...

I totally agree with great observation by mdes1.

Coupe looks great but makes no sense you can't even drive to the Airport with a suitcase in it since there is no trunk space. Sedan is the way to go --- but sedan looks are boring and ordinary..
  • dat2dat2 Member Posts: 251
I disagree, unless you're hauling a family with teenagers, or stealing gold blocks from Ft Knox, the G coupe trunk is very accessible, and the back seat folds down to get a bike in there. Also the front seats are just as roomy as in the sedan, maybe moreso, just be careful who you throw in the backseat!! :shades:

Yes, you have it correct. MSRP $42,389., OTD $37,000. The only other item I added was a five year tire and wheel contract for $699. Final OTD $37,699. Figured I'd get my monies worth fixing/replacing the rims with the low profile tires.
    I didn't do anything special. I received an e-mail advertising a 2010 G37X w/Premium for $33,999., MSRP $39,065. They had the 2010 I bought on the lot and I paid the extra $3K.
  • pavppavp Member Posts: 13
bondi, what is the dealer you got this offer from?
  • jtlajtla Member Posts: 388
WOW!! Your $37,000 OTD price translates to approximately $34,500 + TTL. Nearly $8k discount from MSRP. That's not only a good deal; it is a steal! Congratulations on getting a great car at a great price!

    Hey all,

Just found this forum after looking around to see if I actually got a good deal.

I bought a G37 Journey sedan last week with the Premium and Nav packages. Sticker price was $39.8k or thereabouts.

After negotiating for about 10 mins, I ended up getting the car for $35.8k. "Supposedly" $500 under invoice. I was thinking it was pretty good at the time (I realized only after I started talking price that I left my sheet with my invoice prices at home.)

I also ended up getting the extended warranty for $1650, which the finance guy said he was giving to me at cost because he was trying to win a contest. Retail on the warranty was $1850.

The dealership was Infiniti of Montclair (Southern California). They were very pleasant and the people I dealt with seemed genuinely willing to help me, but I guess that's part of their job. Overall a good experience. With tax, license, title, finance charge and warranty I paid $41k and some change.

I just wanted to see what you all thought on the price I paid.

I think it is a fair deal considering the 2010 just came out.
  • bondibondi Member Posts: 9
I bought it at Infiniti of Norwood in Norwood, MA.

It is a good price for a 2010 G37. Comment on extended warranties:

Value of extended warranty is unclear in a car with such a record of reliability. I have been driving such reliable cars for decades, & have been offered extended warranties but have always turned them down. I have never had significant problems with my cars during the coverage period of these warranties, & would never have recouped even a fraction of their cost. I think such warranties are better applied to the less reliable brands, although I think it is even better to avoid such brands.

The main purpose of these warranties is to make more money off of the customer. Note that if you sell your car or it is totaled in an accident, then the money is lost. Also, when applying for the warranty to cover a problem, it will be assumed that you have not met the terms of the warranty unless you can prove otherwise. Any possible technicality will be used to deny coverage. In addition, it is not uncommon for warranty companies to go out of business.

But why stop at auto extended warranties? Why not buy a warranty for everything (shirts, shoes, beds, hammers, etc), and really drive up the cost of living? The reason we don't is because we only buy warranties when there is a salesman to sell them to us. Haven't been approached yet for a shoe warranty.

Finally, a warranty is really an insurance policy. The purpose of insurance is to cover those costs you could not otherwise afford. If you could not afford to pay for a major repair on your car, then the warranty might make some sense (except for the above issues).

Bottom line: when you purchase an extended warranty you are guaranteeing a loss. Better to put the money in a mutual fund & take the loss only if major problems occur.

Congrats on the new car! Just bought a G37 Journey today with the premium package but without the Nav (I have the Motorola Droid with the car port; works better than any nav system on any car I've used). I ended up closing at $37,640 after tag, title, taxes and admin fees, so I'd say you got a good deal. Hope you're loving your new car as much as I am!

I'm unable to get a cent off a 2010 G37x Coupe: auto, premium, nav, interior accents, illum kick-plates, spoiler, first aid kit, vehicle alarm system - MSRP $46,415. Trouble is I'm in Southern Orgeon and there's only one dealer - up in Beaverton, Portland. This dealership say's I can have any price I want - providing it's MSRP! Yes, that's right, for a well configured G37x you're gonna pay top dollar, especially in midnight white with wheat/maple interior - rare!
  • jtlajtla Member Posts: 388
Contact Bay Area or Southern California dealers and save thousands. Have the dealer transport the car to you; or better yet, fly down and drive your new G37 back to Oregon. ;)

    Hi All

For those of you who have recently got a new G37X (either a 2009 or 2010) what kind of gas mileage are you getting around town(suburban driving vs. city) and what are you getting on the highway? I am considering getting a G37X for my wife and would appreciate getting a handle on what kind of gas mileage to expect. I had a 2006 M35X a few years ago and was getting about 17 around town and no more than 23-24 at best on the highway. I traded it in for a 2009 Acura TL and get 19-20 around town and up to 30+ on the highway (21+ overall).

    Thanks

sbj....I'm with jtla on this one. That color combo isn't rare. Matter of fact, in the midwest, you can find white with wheat 2010s, all day every day.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you, though. There's only one Infiniti dealer in my town. So, competition is scarce. I'm looking within a 100 mile radius of me...maybe even make a trip to Chicago (about a 5 hour drive for me) to get a good deal where the competition is much more heated, and drive the car back.

There's $1,500 in marketing money from Infiniti on the 2010 Gs. So, your local dealer isn't doing you any favors. I bet if your local dealer knew you were willing to shop outside the area you're in, he might change his tune on "MSRP only".

I have been averaging 20 MPG in DC Metro area's stop and go traffic.
  • rhard49rhard49 Member Posts: 226
 I've got an 08 g35x and mpg sucks 15.9-16.7 with a 40% mix of highway driving, yes it gets 22 if you start the trip computer once your on the highway on a trip. I think the 7 speed is rated 1 mog higher than the 5 speed automatics. There is a real world mpg forum for the G's in this forum.

Willingness to deal depends in part on whether dealer can sell all of his cars at his asking price. In a single dealer market where he easily sells every car he orders, he will have no incentive to bargain.
  • cybernevetscybernevets Member Posts: 12
I have a 2009 G37X coupe and drive surface streets to work (~11 miles each way). In the cold weather I'm averaging 16 to 17 mpg. I only have a short stretch where I can drive spirited.

any car that you BUY is a compromise. No exception.

Agreed; that's called Economy 101: Demand and Supply. But when a dealer trys to keep the $1,500 marketing support from manufacturer for itself to fatten its profit even more, I'd call that Greedy.

I looked at webpages of each and everyone of Southern Cal Infiniti dealers I could find and few if any listed G37x equipped with anything near the options that I wanted - or color. Some didn't list a single vehicle! Soooo, maybe they have them but don't want anyone to know - some appear stupid enough! Do you have the name of a dealer who might have my vehicle configuration in stock or on order? Let me know if you have and I will try doing what you suggest - have it flat-bedded up to Orgeon.

    Thanks jtla

  • jtlajtla Member Posts: 388
Based on my recent experience, dealer website do not necessarily show all the inventory they have. Besides, SoCal dealers may have less G37x in stock proportion-wise than Oregon dealers do.

I found both Metro Infiniti and Infiniti of Montclaire's price competitive. I cannot reveal salesperson names per Forum rules, but if you make your email address public under your profile, I can email the contact to you.
  • sbjforeversbjforever Member Posts: 5
I'm going to contact Sacramento Roseville Infiniti - a straight shot down I5 from me in Ashland, Oregon where I live - to ask if that dealership can beat MSRP on that specific G37x configuration in moonlight white with wheat/maple by enough margin to make an inter-state flat-bed transaction worthwhile. I will report outcome back to this thread.

At the same time I need to establish what the shipment/order requirements are to avoid any possibility of incurring CA state sales tax (Oregon = zero), since this is a sale, not an intra-dealer inventory transfer. Ditto for any possible DMV, Registration, License snags. Hopefully, the CA dealership has done this before and it's not a big deal.
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,135
sbj....what are you looking for? Colors? Equipment?

I think if you start doing a little internet shopping, and take those quotes to the local dealership, they may change their tune. If not, you can always fall back on the "out of area" dealers to get you the car you want.

I just think in this economic climate, it makes little sense for any dealer not to at least be competitive.

I've only got one Infiniti dealer in my town, too. While they're on the high side with their quotes, they are discounting on their 2010s....by at least $2K. If I show them some other quotes I've received from dealers 100 miles away, it's up to them whether they want to match (or beat) those deals to get my business.

You won't pay CA sales tax (10% BTW), nor CA DMV fees. You will have to pay whatever is applicable in Oregon. However you do get the benefit of the CA limit on doc fees, which I believe is $75.

Sacramento makes more sense than L.A. Kingpcgeek is correct; you won't pay any CA sales tax or DMV fees. The doc fee, I believe, is $55.

My suggestion to your strategy is: do not ask the Sacramento dealer to beat MSRP. Instead, do some homework first and give them an offer of the price you are willing to pay. You may "test water" by request offer from Bay Area dealers and/or check out price on carsdirect.com to get a feel of market condition. (Edmunds' TMV price is always too high.) Your initial offer may be $500 to $1,000 lower than the average of quotes you have received, because few salesperson will give you his/her best price without any negotiation. And remember, always prepare yourself to walk away.

    Good luck!

    Hi-

I do a 12-mile drive to work each morning in my new 2009 G37x sedan. I get a readout of 27.4 mpg on the display on the highway at 55 mph (level road). My overall mileage for my first tank (calculated by the actual amount of gas to fill up again versus miles driven) was 22.5 mpg, mostly highway driving, in fairly cold winter weather (below freezing the entire period), with long warm-up times idling before driving.

I am driving somewhat conservative as well for the break-in (nothing too agressive). Also not a lot of stop-and-go city driving (just a couple miles each day, the rest is highway).

Thanks very much for the info everyone.

I've read on another forum that the "manufacturer-to-dealer incentive" is still in effect for Feb 2010, and if I'm able to get 3-5k under invoice for a 2009 G37 sedan, that would really make my day. Can anyone point me to any information regarding the incentive so I can better arm myself for negotiating with the dealers this weekend?

    Thank you!
  • millwood0millwood0 Member Posts: 451
I don't have any info on the incentives and I don't know why having it (or not having it) would help you any way shape or form.

this is a free market, and the dealer can charge whatever he wants for his car regardless of what his cost basis it is or what subsidies he receives from someone else.

end of the day, you will always at an informational disadvantage when it comes to such information.

your only hope of getting a good price is to pit one dealer against another, as other folks have done successfully.

I want to thank everyone for the info in this forum. I find the car buying experience intimidating-would rather go to the dentist! As a woman buying a car, the info in this forum gave me the confidence to negotiate online with a number of dealers. I didn't get as good a deal as some of you but was pleased with what I got.Today I picked up my 2009 Black G37x with Premium/Navigation and the other do-dads ie wheel locks etc for 34,400. I was set on the black so that limited my negotiation-if I was willing to go for on the lot I could have gotten 33.5K. It seems like 34K is the magic number in this area. One thing I found that made the process less stressful for me was to list my work phone number so they were not able to pressure me by phone. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, driving the car! thanks again

The factory to dealer incentives absolutely help. You can get the latest info right here on Edmunds site:

    http://www.edmunds.com/new/2009/infiniti/g37/101115176/incentives.html

If the link changes, simply go into the car reviews, and choose the Infiniti --> G37 sedan, and click on the incentives link near the bottom of the page.

Here are the current ones I just got from Edmunds:

    Manufacturer to Dealer

$1000 Cash to Dealer start: 01/05/2010 end: 03/01/2010
Restrictions $1,000 Sell Down Dealer Cash is available towards the purchase or lease of a 2009 G37 Sedan. Cash is compatible with special APR, Core or Lease programs. See your dealer for details.

    " for 34,400. "

that definitely is a very good price so don't sell short your negotiation skills.

I have bought many cars, new and used, in my life and I have yet to have a bad experience. I don't strive to pay the lowest price but do strive for a good experience. I want the dealers to make money, especially the good ones, off of me, because end of the day if we as consumers don't reward good dealers we are hurting ourselves in the long run.

Bought brand new G37 Sedan Journey with Nav, Premium pkg, cargo mats for $31535 ($7540 off MSRP). By my estimation (based on 2% dealer holdback, and with the $3500 incentive that was passed on to me), I paid $625 over DEALER COST!!!) Add $865 for delivery charge and $699 for dealer fee, then TTL. I think I got a fabulous deal as it is Feb 2010 and the dealer still has 2009 models that need to be sold. Great experience at Infiniti of Orlando.

Congrats on your purchase! This will be very helpful to me since I"m looking to purchase the exact same car at the end of the year. Btw, I assume you got a 09 instead of a '10?
  • millwood0millwood0 Member Posts: 451
    if you paid 31535+ttl, you have a very good deal;

if you paid 31535+865+699+ttl, you have a terrible deal.

to give you an example: I paid 33895+ttl (msrp 41380) for a car identical to your + awd.

Aren't you worried the selection might be limited by the end of the year?

To those of you in CT-the dealer in Greenwich has a 2009 AWD with all pkgs (Nav, prem, sport) and his opening offer was 35K (Platinum graphite) so you could probably get a good deal. The cars with Nav/Prem pkg-34.1k opening offer for what he has on the lot.
  • ctshorelinectshoreline Member Posts: 5
thanks-MSRP was 41,380-the $3500 dealer incentive is still happening
  • heartgodheartgod Member Posts: 13
Including destination charge, cost of car was 32500 (BTW, I forgot to add that they tried to charge $119 for nitrogen in the tires- got that waived and also got $100 in coupon for future service. They would not budge on the dealer fee, which I have not seen dealers waive before, so I still looked at the bottom line price- which was still not so bad. Did you end up paying dealer fee? All the other Infiniti dealers had fees ranging from $500-700.
  • heartgodheartgod Member Posts: 13
Yes, this was 2009, with Premium and Navigation. Someone else thought I got a bad deal because of the dealer fee, but I did not have the strength to tell them to stick it- other cars I bought had the same fee- perhaps I could have brought my offer down another $500 to see what they would have done. Good luck. It's a sweet car!
  • mikeyj1mikeyj1 Member Posts: 4
When you bought your car, were you able to finance with Infiniti at 0%/1.9%/... or did you end up paying a higher rate?
  • millwood0millwood0 Member Posts: 451
    32500+ttl is a reasonable price.

"Did you end up paying dealer fee?"

my 33895+ttl is all I paid to the dealer (33895) before ttl. I don't care how they break that figure up but that's all I paid.
