My girlfriend just laughed at me....
G37 boring??? hardly!
one of the most fun cars I've ever had. Just got one in the x version in October, and she loves to run hard and fast.
I'm just saying I don't love it, so I could be saving alot of money driving something that I like and get better gas mileage.
I looked forward to starting the G35 up every day and hear the rumble.
Thanks...
Coupe looks great but makes no sense you can't even drive to the Airport with a suitcase in it since there is no trunk space. Sedan is the way to go --- but sedan looks are boring and ordinary..
I didn't do anything special. I received an e-mail advertising a 2010 G37X w/Premium for $33,999., MSRP $39,065. They had the 2010 I bought on the lot and I paid the extra $3K.
Just found this forum after looking around to see if I actually got a good deal.
I bought a G37 Journey sedan last week with the Premium and Nav packages. Sticker price was $39.8k or thereabouts.
After negotiating for about 10 mins, I ended up getting the car for $35.8k. "Supposedly" $500 under invoice. I was thinking it was pretty good at the time (I realized only after I started talking price that I left my sheet with my invoice prices at home.)
I also ended up getting the extended warranty for $1650, which the finance guy said he was giving to me at cost because he was trying to win a contest. Retail on the warranty was $1850.
The dealership was Infiniti of Montclair (Southern California). They were very pleasant and the people I dealt with seemed genuinely willing to help me, but I guess that's part of their job. Overall a good experience. With tax, license, title, finance charge and warranty I paid $41k and some change.
I just wanted to see what you all thought on the price I paid.
Value of extended warranty is unclear in a car with such a record of reliability. I have been driving such reliable cars for decades, & have been offered extended warranties but have always turned them down. I have never had significant problems with my cars during the coverage period of these warranties, & would never have recouped even a fraction of their cost. I think such warranties are better applied to the less reliable brands, although I think it is even better to avoid such brands.
The main purpose of these warranties is to make more money off of the customer. Note that if you sell your car or it is totaled in an accident, then the money is lost. Also, when applying for the warranty to cover a problem, it will be assumed that you have not met the terms of the warranty unless you can prove otherwise. Any possible technicality will be used to deny coverage. In addition, it is not uncommon for warranty companies to go out of business.
But why stop at auto extended warranties? Why not buy a warranty for everything (shirts, shoes, beds, hammers, etc), and really drive up the cost of living? The reason we don't is because we only buy warranties when there is a salesman to sell them to us. Haven't been approached yet for a shoe warranty.
Finally, a warranty is really an insurance policy. The purpose of insurance is to cover those costs you could not otherwise afford. If you could not afford to pay for a major repair on your car, then the warranty might make some sense (except for the above issues).
Bottom line: when you purchase an extended warranty you are guaranteeing a loss. Better to put the money in a mutual fund & take the loss only if major problems occur.
For those of you who have recently got a new G37X (either a 2009 or 2010) what kind of gas mileage are you getting around town(suburban driving vs. city) and what are you getting on the highway? I am considering getting a G37X for my wife and would appreciate getting a handle on what kind of gas mileage to expect. I had a 2006 M35X a few years ago and was getting about 17 around town and no more than 23-24 at best on the highway. I traded it in for a 2009 Acura TL and get 19-20 around town and up to 30+ on the highway (21+ overall).
Thanks
I'm kind of in the same boat as you, though. There's only one Infiniti dealer in my town. So, competition is scarce. I'm looking within a 100 mile radius of me...maybe even make a trip to Chicago (about a 5 hour drive for me) to get a good deal where the competition is much more heated, and drive the car back.
There's $1,500 in marketing money from Infiniti on the 2010 Gs. So, your local dealer isn't doing you any favors. I bet if your local dealer knew you were willing to shop outside the area you're in, he might change his tune on "MSRP only".
any car that you BUY is a compromise. No exception.
Agreed; that's called Economy 101: Demand and Supply. But when a dealer trys to keep the $1,500 marketing support from manufacturer for itself to fatten its profit even more, I'd call that Greedy.

I found both Metro Infiniti and Infiniti of Montclaire's price competitive. I cannot reveal salesperson names per Forum rules, but if you make your email address public under your profile, I can email the contact to you.
At the same time I need to establish what the shipment/order requirements are to avoid any possibility of incurring CA state sales tax (Oregon = zero), since this is a sale, not an intra-dealer inventory transfer. Ditto for any possible DMV, Registration, License snags. Hopefully, the CA dealership has done this before and it's not a big deal.
I think if you start doing a little internet shopping, and take those quotes to the local dealership, they may change their tune. If not, you can always fall back on the "out of area" dealers to get you the car you want.
I just think in this economic climate, it makes little sense for any dealer not to at least be competitive.
I've only got one Infiniti dealer in my town, too. While they're on the high side with their quotes, they are discounting on their 2010s....by at least $2K. If I show them some other quotes I've received from dealers 100 miles away, it's up to them whether they want to match (or beat) those deals to get my business.

My suggestion to your strategy is: do not ask the Sacramento dealer to beat MSRP. Instead, do some homework first and give them an offer of the price you are willing to pay. You may "test water" by request offer from Bay Area dealers and/or check out price on carsdirect.com to get a feel of market condition. (Edmunds' TMV price is always too high.) Your initial offer may be $500 to $1,000 lower than the average of quotes you have received, because few salesperson will give you his/her best price without any negotiation. And remember, always prepare yourself to walk away.
Good luck!
I do a 12-mile drive to work each morning in my new 2009 G37x sedan. I get a readout of 27.4 mpg on the display on the highway at 55 mph (level road). My overall mileage for my first tank (calculated by the actual amount of gas to fill up again versus miles driven) was 22.5 mpg, mostly highway driving, in fairly cold winter weather (below freezing the entire period), with long warm-up times idling before driving.
I am driving somewhat conservative as well for the break-in (nothing too agressive). Also not a lot of stop-and-go city driving (just a couple miles each day, the rest is highway).
I've read on another forum that the "manufacturer-to-dealer incentive" is still in effect for Feb 2010, and if I'm able to get 3-5k under invoice for a 2009 G37 sedan, that would really make my day. Can anyone point me to any information regarding the incentive so I can better arm myself for negotiating with the dealers this weekend?
Thank you!
this is a free market, and the dealer can charge whatever he wants for his car regardless of what his cost basis it is or what subsidies he receives from someone else.
end of the day, you will always at an informational disadvantage when it comes to such information.
your only hope of getting a good price is to pit one dealer against another, as other folks have done successfully.

If the link changes, simply go into the car reviews, and choose the Infiniti --> G37 sedan, and click on the incentives link near the bottom of the page.

More importantly, you're enjoying the drive.
Congrats!
that definitely is a very good price so don't sell short your negotiation skills.
I have bought many cars, new and used, in my life and I have yet to have a bad experience. I don't strive to pay the lowest price but do strive for a good experience. I want the dealers to make money, especially the good ones, off of me, because end of the day if we as consumers don't reward good dealers we are hurting ourselves in the long run.
if you paid 31535+865+699+ttl, you have a terrible deal.
to give you an example: I paid 33895+ttl (msrp 41380) for a car identical to your + awd.
To those of you in CT-the dealer in Greenwich has a 2009 AWD with all pkgs (Nav, prem, sport) and his opening offer was 35K (Platinum graphite) so you could probably get a good deal. The cars with Nav/Prem pkg-34.1k opening offer for what he has on the lot.
"Did you end up paying dealer fee?"
my 33895+ttl is all I paid to the dealer (33895) before ttl. I don't care how they break that figure up but that's all I paid.
