@Michaell I pulled the numbers from the contract so hopefully I gave the right numbers. That was the deal I got and the $299.63 payment includes tax (6.25) in MA.
I'm interested in leasing a EX-L (no navi) in NYC area and in process of getting quotes from several dealers. Got this one... thoughts?
39 months / 12K miles per year Sale Price: $28,471 Residual: $19,073 (I calculated this to be 67% which seems high) MF: 0.0012 $0 down. But it has $2,309 NY State Tax and Fees. This seems high given NY tax should be on the difference between sale price and residual? Monthly payment: $298
Thanks for the help. It's my first time leasing and learning a lot from this thread.

The numbers we have from Honda show .00160 MF and 64% for 39/12. Either your quote is from a different bank or there is some sort of regional promotion going on in the NE that we don't have any numbers for.
I would ask the dealer to break down the $2309 .. you are correct, only the depreciation is subject to tax.

MSRP is $30,275. Thanks for the tip. I emailed for the $2309 broken down and also why the residual is so high. Will keep you posted.
Also... typically how much does lease payment go down on a 10K mile lease vs. 12K? I really only need 10K.

Hi, I was looking at the posts and not seeing any specific answer to the difference in Residual. Can you tell me if there is a 2% difference in a vehicle with Nav at 62% instead of 64%? Also does Honda use the same residual for 39 mos. as they do for 36? gwarrenfl

I confirm a 2% difference in residual for EX-L versus EX-L with Nav.
For the program that ends 5/11, the 36 and 39 month residuals for the CR-V are the same.

Plenty of lease calculators available on the web ...
I agree about the online calculators but i'm not able to come up the the payment stated on this deal using the numbers provided. I even tried doing it manual but no luck. Can anyone check my match or tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Depreciation Fee = (Net Cap Cost – Residual) / term Finance Fee = (Net Cap Cost + Residual) x MF Monthly Lease Payment = Deprecation Fee + Finance Fee (sales tax not included)

The tax situation in Texas always hurts your lease deals there. What was the MSRP?
Hi. Can someone give me a 30 second overview of what the residual & money factor is all about and how to use it when evaluating lease offers? I am a little confused by that. I see many of you asking about it so it must be important! I have negotiated a lease offer in the past but I focused only on the down payment and monthly payment. I assume that as long as you are not planning to buy the car at the end of the lease, that is all that really matters - correct? Anyway I am still holding out for a great deal on a new 2015 CRV lease. My 2012 one expires in a month so I need to move fast. So far the best deal my local place offered me is : $279 x 39 months at 12,000 miles per year, paying off my 1 last monthly payment and dispo fee. That's with 0 down, but does include about $1100 in fees. On the EX the payment would be $324x39 with the same other terms. I am still trying to see if I can beat these offers. I am in NJ. thanks!

Money factor is the number used to calculate the 'rent charge' - similar to interest. Dealers can mark up this number from the base rate supplied by Honda, so it's important to know what this number is.
Residual is the percentage of MSRP that the bank thinks the car will be worth at the end of the lease. Higher trim levels have a lower residual in general, so leasing an EX-L will be more expensive than leasing an LX, all else being equal.
I need help with double checking on the monthly payment of $306/mo I was given for the 2015 Honda CRV EX AWD. Below is the information supplied to me from the dealer. I came up with a much lower monthly payment than the dealer when I did the calculation.

I am in the market to lease a new Honda CRV in the next 3-4 weeks. I have went to two dealers in person, but was felt like little red riding hood being targeted by the big bad wolf. Because of this I have spent the last few days researching forums and websites on how to negotiate for a new vehicle.(And happily came upon this website) several articles say to negotiate the price of a car before discussing intent to lease. Is this really the case when negotiating online? Also I want to add when looking to lease the CRV touring the dealer quoted me 450/mo with 450 down 36 mo/12,000 miles. My FICO is 745. I totaled the cost over three years ay 16,200. I did not get the other numbers, because this was before I found this forum. However, I walked out because this just seemed like a lot of money for a lease. Was I right about that ? This is in South Florida.
Oh and this price does not include taxes or tag/registration. However, it includes a 800.00 destination fee.

The CR-V's are quite popular, and don't have great lease numbers. The base MF is .00170, and the 36/12 residual for the Touring is 61%.
We would need to know the MSRP and the selling price in order to model a payment.
I don't think it matters when you bring up your intention to lease; negotiate the best price you can regardless.
You should also check out the "CR-V Prices Paid" discussion to see what others have been paying; that might help you get an idea of what price you should be able to target.
Thank you moderator. I checked the other forum and not much current pricing info for my region.
So just a question because you seem quite well informed. Is there a better SUV/Crossover to lease? Also is it generally better to purchase a CRV due to the popularity. Thank you
(I am in a Civic now (lease) which is over soon and I would like to get higher off the ground. Also due to me not informing myself about the process I got a pretty bad deal with my current lease and I am afraid to repeat my mistake this time around.)

Better based on the lease numbers? Perhaps .. I don't really track them, I just answer questions as they come up. However, you will have to live with the car a lot longer than you'll remember the particulars of a deal. So, get what you like first, then worry about the numbers later.

Keep in mind.. the Touring is the most expensive CR-V. CR-Vs are popular right now, and they don't need incentives to move them, so the price isn't great on a lease.
RAV4s and Tiguans seem to be leasing out pretty well right now, but you'd have to shop them to make sure.
You can use the data in this forum to get a general idea and reach out to different dealers to see the best you can do if you are not willing to drive that far. With some work, I was able to get few hundred $ below invoice in Seattle area. And, stock of colors other than silver, white and gray is very low.
Below are my lease details on a CR EX AWD that I am picking up today:
Net cap cost = $25,668 (sale price + 595 acq fee + equity from another Honda that is coming off the lease) Monthly payment = $283 before taxes. Drive away with 283 + lic + 150 doc fee.
I could have haggled over the doc fee but wasn't worth the effort...

Thank you Heron4. I am willing to travel a 250 mile radius from my home . So it seems you decided to buy. I am at a crossroad. Time is running out. I don't want to make a mistake/get a bad deal due to my inexperience. I will be sending emails out tomorrow and as I receive offers come here for assistance as needed. Thanks for the reply and sharing.
Spend few minutes on this forum or others and learn how the math on leasing work so that if something changes in the dealership, you know how it will impact your final number.
I did not discuss my trade-in and negotiated the selling price on the new car. Drove to the dealership and told me "if you give me $X for my car, we have a deal". Previously, I had asked them "How much will you give me for this car?". Slight different tactic but worked very effectively.
Good luck and come back if you have any questions. I have learned a lot from these forums...
Mods, A while ago, one of the mods had posted some steps on what steps to take to protect the paint/finish of a new car. Do you recall the link? I used the search feature but it gives too many links.

The last time I waxed a car was 1982.
While I'm a bit more fastidious about keeping my cars clean, I too haven't waxed a car since ... well, I don't really remember when.

Hello Moderator,
It's me again. I am getting responses from the emails I've been sending out. Getting lots of numbers of quotes for the price of the vehicles but would like to calculate a lease payment on each one. I believe I need a Money Factor and Residual Value. The model I am looking at is the Honda CRV AWD EX-L. Can you provide me with the numbers I need to plug into the lease formula calculator for Florida. Thank you !
So if the dealership ends up having a higher MF or lower residual how do you approach this?
The residual value is set by the bank and cannot be altered by the dealer; for the MF, tell them (politely but firmly) that you won't sign a deal unless the base MF is being used.
Lots of Honda dealers out there for you to work with; it only takes one to agree to your terms and make a deal.

Depreciation Fee = (Net Cap Cost – Residual) / term
Finance Fee = (Net Cap Cost + Residual) x MF
Monthly Lease Payment = Deprecation Fee + Finance Fee (sales tax not included)
$24,459 - $15,811 / 38 = $227.58
$24,459 + $15,811 x .00105 = $42.28
$227.58 + 42.28 = $269.86 (sales tax not included)
As you can see I'm off by $9.86
And.. the special money factor for the "$0 due at signing" lease is .00095
Your math is good, just using the wrong variables.

Residual is the percentage of MSRP that the bank thinks the car will be worth at the end of the lease. Higher trim levels have a lower residual in general, so leasing an EX-L will be more expensive than leasing an LX, all else being equal.

You should also check out the "CR-V Prices Paid" discussion to see what others have been paying; that might help you get an idea of what price you should be able to target.

RAV4s and Tiguans seem to be leasing out pretty well right now, but you'd have to shop them to make sure.

Below are my lease details on a CR EX AWD that I am picking up today:
Net cap cost = $25,668 (sale price + 595 acq fee + equity from another Honda that is coming off the lease)
Monthly payment = $283 before taxes.
A while ago, one of the mods had posted some steps on what steps to take to protect the paint/finish of a new car. Do you recall the link? I used the search feature but it gives too many links.
thx

Hello Moderator,
It's me again. I am getting responses from the emails I've been sending out. Getting lots of numbers of quotes for the price of the vehicles but would like to calculate a lease payment on each one. I believe I need a Money Factor and Residual Value. The model I am looking at is the Honda CRV AWD EX-L. Can you provide me with the numbers I need to plug into the lease formula calculator for Florida. Thank you !

Lots of Honda dealers out there for you to work with; it only takes one to agree to your terms and make a deal.
