Not sure if this is the place to post these, but someone on a local FB group posted pics of these old newspapers he found under some flooring. I’m guessing they’re from 1968. I remember all these car dealers.
Some of the private sale classified are interesting too, like the ‘65 Corvette convertible with a 4-speed, and at the other end of the scale, a ‘62 Mini with a spare engine.
I like the use of "coach" as if it was 1930. I suppose the harsh climate and maybe sketchy dealer network made some of the oddball makes depreciate fast.
You know me, I'd check out the '61 Lark wagon. You can tell this is probably within a couple years of the discontinuation of Stude cars, with that rock-bottom selling price. Still, an authorized dealer service organization existed and lots-o-parts at the factory parts depot.
A lot of Studebaker Drivers' Club members have said they got into Studes in this time period, when looking for a cheap used car. They generally found the cars mechanically durable and parts more available and cheaper than they'd expected on a discontinued make, and it made fans of a good number of them.

I saw today that Hemmings Classic Car magazine is shutting down as its own publication (apparently some content will be folded into Hemmings Motor News) in February. So now I don’t feel so bad about them not offering me an offer to renew.
Makes me wonder how long Motorcycle Classics will keep publishing, I just renewed. Right now I'm going through my Automobile Quarterlies, that was a great source of in-depth articles on all kinds of classic and antique cars, with amazing photography.
A dollar? What a bargain! I wish someone could access all those articles, combine them into some great books on various carmakers. Notgonnahappen, I know.
I got the Classic Car notice about a week ago with the January issue. February will be the last issue--the next one. Today I called to cancel. The phone person was terse like he was disappointed I didn't want Hemmings. I looked at Hemmings at a Barnes Noble after I got the notice. It's not for me with little car content. The current issue of Classic Car is bad enough, IMHO. It's mostly foreign stuff.
Far and away my favorite foreign car, other than the bar going down the middle of the windshield.
RE.: Classic Car magazine--I can't remember when I even thumbed through one. When my friend and their columnist Bob Palma died, I lost interest, and I think it had started to go downhill even before then.

Me, too! So I bought a '78... in '82. Happy graduation present to me!

The single exhaust is on the left. I believe that means it is a 6 cylinder. Not sure which one as Pontiac dropped the Chevy 250 six around that time and assumed the Buick 231 V6.

I was curious about when the Firebird switched from the 250 to the 231, so I looked it up. Turns out it was '77. I guess I should've known that, since I already knew the LeMans went from the 250 to the 231 for '77. It just didn't occur to me though, that the change was division-wide, not just the LeMans.
Back in the early 90's, I had an evening job after class, working in a Hecht's department store (since taken over by Macy's). My manager had an '81 Firebird with a 231. I think I saw it once or twice, but honestly can't remember anything about it.
It's kinda cool seeing one out in the wild like that, that looks like it's just a nice used car

Spotted a 1960 Ford Starliner at a cruise-in Saturday. Made my day because these have been rare in this area. The last really nice one I was was at a large car show 10-12 years ago, a white Sunliner with blue interior.
I think my dad's Country Sedan had that same upholstery pattern - I remember the silver door panel trim was kind of reflective//foil material that looked cool. I notice that car has reverse lights and a blanking plate for the radio.
Is there any way to delete a comment entirely? I had a glitch earlier...504 error or one of those Peugeot-sounding things, and a comment I made above posted twice!

Yeah. Really makes me wonder what the story is with this car because it doesn't look restored

I always liked the Starliner roofline. Been a big fan of the ‘61 Starliner since I was a kid.
Studebaker called their early ‘50’s two-door hardtops “Starliners” although that was not written on the cars anywhere.
