Honda also offered 5.79% financing.
Paid 27,888.00 (incl. dest) + 1050.00 for the towing package + TTL, etc... I don't have OTD handy, but you can figure 6.25% Texas tax plus modest title fees etc... No unreasonable doc fees or anything like that.
My impressions are generally VERY good. This was one of the easiest car deals I've ever done, despite the out-of-town nature of it. All of the people at Reliance, from the sales manager to the service people, are extremely friendly and easy to work with. There was no attempt at a bait-and-switch, no pushing for options, extended service plans, etc... Just real smooth and easy.
There were a couple SMALL issues that didn't amount to a big deal at all - I'll mention them only to perhaps help readers avoid them in the future by mentioning them to their dealer ahead of time.
1. The towing package wasn't quite installed when we arrived and the car hadn't been 'made ready' yet. I think there may have been a communication breakdown between the sales manager and the service manager regarding when we were arriving - I'm not sure on this. I think there was also a delay in getting the towing package parts in. The end result was that it took a few hours to get the car ready. The sales manager made a generous concession of his own volition - we didn't ask for anything. I'm not going to say what it was, because it doesn't matter - I think he felt bad enough about the delay that he won't have to do it again ;-) Again this wasn't a big deal and I chalked it up to 'growing pains' - this is a small dealership that is growing quickly and seems to be doing a good job of handling it.
2. The second issue was again, another small one & not Reliance's fault. The seats had some kind of Armor-All-like substance on them, making them slippery and shiny. Worse, it wasn't evenly applied, so some parts of the seats had nothing on them, while others were real shiny. There was also slight overspray from this susbstance on virtually every plastic part of the interior. I asked, and they said the dealer they got the car from had applied it. It's going to take a little elbow grease to get this stuff off. If you buy a new car, tell the dealer NOT to put any junk on the leather! They look just fine the way they come from the factory & you can put your own stuff on them if you like (I personally can't stand the Armor-All look in a car). Besides, nobody will EVER apply it as carefully as YOU will on your new car.
The bottom line: I highly recommend Reliance for a Pilot or any other Honda purchase, even if you have to come in from out of town or even out of state. They really seem to appeciate their customers & do everything they can to keep 'em happy. I'm not quite in the market for a second new car (the Pilot is for my wife), but when I am I'm going back to Reliance.
p.s. - another example of how nice they are: I bought some rear splash guards from the parts counter. I intended to put them on myself when I got home, cuz I hate paying people to do things I can do myself with a screwdriver. The service manager saw me with them and offered to put them on himself while the other guys installed the towing package - no charge. I let him. My local dealer probably would have charged me thirty bucks for that 10 minutes' work. Just really good people...
By the way, just curious, you get 2WD?
Seem very good so far and pricing seems good as well. Will revert once deal is done and car is in hand.
I have heard of some people making trips down to Portland to pick up a pilot as well.
Overall, have people been doing most of their bids on email, via fax or both?
Thanks for the insight!
They also gave me $10,000 for my trade in on my 2002 Explorer.. which surprised me. We were going to try to sell it ourselves for $10,500 because we didn't think we'd get more then $8,000 for a trade-in (it was a little beat up, and Kelley Bluebook said it was worth about $11,000 in good condition - that was sales price not trade in price). So we were happy with that as well!
Anyway - just wanted to know if the $30,329 was a good deal for a fully loaded Pilot. Thanks!
1. It occurred to me that they might have held off on installing the towing package until I got there because I hadn't put down a deposit or anything - it was just a 'handshake' over the phone. The towing package requires the installation of upgraded power steering and transmission fluid coolers & thus is a bit hard to undo if I hadn't shown up to buy the car.
2. I got all that Armor All stuff off okay. It just buffed out with a rag & didn't take as long as I'd feared.
Great dealer, great car - we love it!
I'd expect to pay about $28,600-28,800 including destination but excluding TTL, documentation, etc... Sounds like you got a good deal on the trade-in, though, and that makes it pretty much a wash.
The dealer was probably trying to give you a decent deal on both the trade-in and the new car so you didn't feel ripped off on either side. If you hadn't done the trade-in, you'd have paid too much for the car by $1500 or so.
Considering that I have received so much great information from this board, here is my chance to give something back.
On 7-9 I purchased an EX-L 2wd (no RES, or Nav) from Rock Honda in Fontana CA for 24,895. This included the destination, but did not include Tax or License. My total out the door price was 27,135 after adding Tax and License. I financed with Honda for 5 years at 6.29% with a 719 credit score, which was the best they have at this moment I think.
Hope this helps out.
Now on to my questions...
1. Can anyone reccommend a Honda dealer in Western/Central NY? I'm looking to buy a Pilot within the next week and want to know who has treated them fairly during their buying process.
2. I will be relocating to NJ on August 1st. Is there an advantage to buying in NY before I move or an advantage to buying in NJ. I prefer to buy in NY because I don't have the time to travel to NJ anytime in the next week, but if it is more advantagous, I'll consider it.
Thanks for your help in advance.
Seems really good....
I knows there is a redesign coming out in 07 for the MDX, is there a redesign coming out for the Pilot?

(Boy I hope i'm not wrong! :P )
LOL no changes expected
I saw that Costco Auto Financing is offering 5.74% for 36 months on new cars, for people with good credit. Executive members get 5.64% and they say that someone with "Super" credit (whatever that is), may qualify for even lower rates. No application fee, or prepayment penalty.
To clarify, I have not applied for or got this rate, but it is worth a try for someone who is looking to finance (and is a Costco member).
Hope this helps someone.
1. I spoke to a dealer in nassau and they said that they are firm on this price with the 0% financing for 5 years.
I am feeling this is too high?
Please provide your experiences and thoughts. How do you get these folks down? Do they take more off or are they hidden deals out there.
Thanks
Lit
These are texas t,t,l
Example: Best price (using invoice - 3000 as example)
22931.99 @ 6.50 apr 60 months = 28945.80 total incl ttl and finance charges.
25,100 + t,t, l = $26,899.24 drive-out with no interest.
I know they are saying 60 months but already I am beginning to question their offer and think they are offering 0% on short term financing because they would have to buy down $4763.96 of finance charges on a 60 month term. More likely they are offering the 0% on 36 months only.
Even at 36 months it looks like the total obligation is lower $27,205.20 vs. $26,899.24 So it's a good deal. HOWEVER!!! If you plan on paying off this loan quickly then the 0% is not right for you. If you do the 0% and pay it off in a couple of years you don't get a reduction in principal. If it is financed and you pay it off quickly the remaining interest is lopped off. Always go the route of higher principal vs lower rate if the following two things apply. The APR affects final negotiated price AND you are going to accelerate the loan (pay off within first couple of years.)
If you are going to pay it out over the entire time and are not going to trade or pay off quickly then you WILL save money with the 0% loan.
Always double check the math for yourself... it's been a LOOOOONG day.

Bottom Line: At their offer of 25,100 (I am wondering what will be added to the price when you get there... not being rude... maybe DOC fees are high?) at 0% that is basically saying "We will do $20,336.04 PLUS T,T,L"
Maybe the going rate is lower in the NY area. the lower the standard rate the less they have to buy down.

But that CA deal is nice, taking 3 grand off the invoice?
for the pilot, what does the Ex have that the LX does not other than leather seats?
Thanks again
Here's the difference between the two this is a link to honda website. Just copy the address and paste it on the address bar.

Please advise which dealerhip in Philly. Also, did you get a quote for EX-L with RES? Thanks.
I just plunked deposit down for 4WD EXL (no RES or NAV) for 26,830 at Valley Honda in Aurora, IL. I have seen better deals, but I live in Minneapolis, and the best deal here was 28,100, and I fly to Chicago for work often so I can fly down for free and actually charge mileage to drive it back.
I did originally have a price of 26,400 at Grand Honda near Chicago, but then at the last minute they snuck in a $250 "internet" fee, a $40 "drive away" fee and charged almost two hundred more for towing package installation than Valley.. That made me made enough that even if there price had still been lower I would have gone with Valley Honda.
Thanks again to all on this board without whom I would have paid a lot more.
That seems pretty high. I'm in Austin, TX.
Any suggestions? credit score 680.
Sussman was 28.7k
Connicelli gave a friend 28.3k. When I was in there they told me $29.7k Later they called, they gave me quote of $28,410. I didn't negotiate at all yet, they were giving a fair amount for my trade too.
I didn't ask about the RES.
Honda US is balking at that on a new car sold to a Canuck importing to Canada. So much for Free Trade! Will dealers provide it? Are there any Canadians out there who have had success out there getting said letter on a new Pilot?
And while I'm at it what about getting daytime running light installed before purchase? (another! requirement in Canada)
Have you finalized your purchase or just put in deposit?
It was quite helpful. still need to know if dealer provided a "recall clearance letter". Any lucky Canucks out there?
Good luck and always check with the customs office when transporting out of state.
Side note: When I worked for Toyota it was in our dealer agreement with Toyota manufacturing that we could NOT sell a vehicle for export out of the U.S. You may have same issue with Honda. I am not sure.

Another side note to the Forum. Pay the daggum Driver fees! It is not our fault that we gave you a GREAT deal and you don't want anything on the lot. It is a nominal charge and gets you the vehicle in your color choice with the equipment you want. If a dealer charges you something outrageous then he is just trying to rebuild profit but most of the time it is anywhere from 50 - 150 bucks. It is a true cost as we have to pay a driver to get what you want. Please don't play hardball on this one and is unfair to your dealer who is trying to work with you.
I am not trying to make this sound like a complaint and we will absorb it sometimes but don't think they are just trying to get over on you. 98% of the time they are not, they are just trying to maintain the profit margin you agreed to.
