Got a quote from them for a Honda Pilot EX-L with RES for 28,028.96 that includes destination... Seems to be a good price if you're near that area. I have'nt asked about there Documentation fees though anyone knows about it?

Wanted to share what I was quoted over the weekend for a 2006 Honda Pilot EXL with RES (2WD) in the dfw area....can I can do better???

After alot of researching on this site I went out and got 2 quotes in Dallas over the weekend:

Bankston
$28,600
$499 Pro Package (mud guard, locking wheel lugs, cargo tray)
$199 Pin Stripe
$59 Doc fee
$2,000 ttl

Total out: $31,357

David McDavid
$28,300
$499 Pro Package (mud guard, locking wheel lugs, cargo tray)
$199 Pin Stripe
$59 Doc fee
$2,000 ttl
Free lifetime car wash & Window tint

Total out: $31,057

Financing for Bankston and McDavid is 48-60 months : 4.9%

I am thinking I may still be able to get that asking price down a bit. Working the phones now, I will keep you all posted. This site is awesome and has helped me a great deal in bargaining this past week!

A majority of dealers in the tri-state area use Galves. Their prices are lower than KBB. Ask the dealer to show you the price that is in the Galves book.

Also, beings that you have a trade you have to realize that the dealer will give you a good deal on the Pilot but will make up for it on the trade.

If you have all the prices in writing, take it to another dealership and see if they can beat it.
• dbrosdbros Member Posts: 81
Try Reliance at Lake Jackson, they would be able to give you a much better price than that, actually the price that you have right now it's for a 4WD if you get it from Reliance. It's worth the drive...

I finally sealed the deal this last Saturday (after following this forum for months!). First off, thanks to everyone for their input to this forum. I would never have been able to determine what I thought to be an acceptable price without your help. I was able to do all pricing through email. Completed the agreement and financing over the phone and needed to spend only 15-20 minutes at the dealership for signing papers. Couldn't have been easier.

I purchased an Amazon Green Pilot EX-L RES(DVD) from Staten Island Honda for $28050 (incl. dest.). The 'dealer fee' added up to less than $100 and was for State Inspection, NY Tire Tax, registration/title process fees. Open Road and other 'low price' Jersey dealerships want closer to $300. SI Honda has plenty more to sell so anyone in the five boroughs or LI should check them for a quote.

Here's what I've learned from this experience:
- Email dealers for quotes through Edmunds if you don't want to include a phone number. Edmunds' form does not require phone number where every dealer's 'quick quote' does.
- Don't assume that destination ($550) is included in the quote. Send a follow-up to confirm.
- Confirm ALL extra fees.
- Once you agree on a dealership and price have them fax you the numbers. This should reduce the possibility of any 'gotchas' when you show up at the dealership.
- Depending on your region don't settle for anything over $3K BELOW INVOICE (Seattle dealers seem to be an exception). $4K BELOW INVOICE should be your target. This would mean the dealer has to eat into their holdback. Probably won't see smaller dealers do this. (I would suspect that this will hold true into August to clear the lots, but you never know...)
- Check dealer inventory (many dealership websites contain this) to see which lots are full and potentially more eager to deal.
- Do your research and don't assume anything!

Also, I felt that after saving thousands I wasn't going to go crazy doing more shopping to save another hundred or so. I purchased for the lowest price I received through email from a dealership in my state (and area). That made the DMV process so much easier. I felt it was a fair price so didn't negotiate any further.

Again thanks to all, this is such a great forum! Check out how many responses the other forums have. They don't come close! Big thanks to the dealers that add their two cents, especially dwilliam.

I've enjoyed following this forum and getting, what I feel to be, a great deal but it's now time to 'graduate' to the owner's forum! :shades: Good luck to all on their research and bargaining.

Just leased Pilot EXL 4WD in Academy honda NJ for 357$ incl NY tax for 36 month 15K with 3K down. could have got a 340$ a month but the credit was not good enough (too short).
Thanks everyone for the info. I was ready to buy for 379$+tax before checking this thread.

I know the protection package is too high. It goes for $251 in NJ. Even the individual prices from their accessory sheet are Cargo Tray $103, wheel locks $76 & mud guards $72 (which adds upto $251).

There is no installation for Cargo Tray, and wheel locks just means one nut from each tire is replaced with a lock nut (so maybe 10 minutes installation, if you take into account the time required to tear open the package).

Surprising that both dealers quoted that high.

Check out the accessory prices for those on honda.com. You should save atleast $200 on that package. Honda.com give you the option of buying it from them with installation done by dealer of your choice. I would say, buy the cargo tray and wheel locks without installtion and the splash guards with installation.

If you just tell the dealers that you have that option, they should match it with no problems.

Email me at pjthompson5@yahoo.com and I'll give you some info. that can't be posted in the forum...hope I can help.

I'm ready to buy and are surprised to read the various ranges of prices paid below INVOICE. Some say $500 some $1000 to 1500 and even $3000 to $4000. This week Honda began advertising Honda "Clearance Days" financing incentives in the Chicago area(2.9 and 4.9%) yet none are listed on Edmunds "incentives".
Does anyone know about dealer money available to get well below invoice? Again Edmunds lists none today for Pilots in this area.
For those buying the 4WD NAVI, what have you paid locally and where? :surprise:

I was quoted 28, 400 for an EXL with the roof rack bars from Hopkins Honda in Minnesota. There seem to be better deals out there. Anyone comment on this price and how do you go about doing email quotes? I also want the towing package and running boards, which this dealership said would add about 1700 dollars.

Where is Sussman and do you have contact information?

Check Reliance Honda in TX in google.
• luvasuvluvasuv Member Posts: 14
Don't always count on Edmunds to have all of the incentives listed. Right now dealers are getting upwards of $3K in incentives directly from Honda based on meeting specific sales goals.

I am closing on a EXL from Hopkins Honda (Minneapolis area) on Saturday. I originally had deposited money (said to be fully refundable) at Valley Honda in Chicago, however at the last minute, when Hopkins Honda matched, this represented a real savings for me to buy it at a slightly lower price locall.

Since I am saving money, I was wondering about the appropriateness of sending the salesman at Valley Honda a check for some amount, since he did a lot of work which ended up getting me a deal somehwere else, so he didnt get a commission. I would be happy to pay him an appropriate amount but I dont know if this is done, or should be done.

I would highly recommend this internet sales guy at Valley Honda in the Chicago area. They were a treat to work with compared with some other dealers in the Chicago area I had talked to. It just so happened at the end of the day, it was a much better deal for me to buy locally in Minneapolis, and it was nothing Valley Honda did to dissuade me from buying there. I understand I cannot list the name so I wont, but he is an excellent sales guy, and as I said, I would like to get him some amount of compensation even though I didnt buy the car from him.

I suppose T.A.D. can comment on that.
• luvasuvluvasuv Member Posts: 14
Depending on how competitive your market is you should be able to do better. You can go to the Honda website and use REQUEST A QUOTE to get requests from your closest dealers or use LOCATE A DEALER to get quotes from dealers in your larger geographic area. Good luck!
• thinkpadthinkpad Member Posts: 1
The running boards should be around $700. I can not say for towing package. I don't have the towing package on my car. Even with that, I think the price should be within 27,000.

I'd do it. It probably almost never happens, but it would be really nice of you to do it. Maybe TAD can suggest an appropriate amount.

I just purchased a Pilot EX-L 4WD on 7/15/06 from Santa Ana Honda in Orange County, California. It was a very pleasant and money saving experience, and I would like to pass it on so others can save as I did.

Basic price was $27,400. It had mud flaps and wheel locks installed so the total price came to $27,640. In addition, I had to pay California sales tax of 7.75%, but that is the same tax rate I would have paid in Las Vegas. And Nevada gives you credit for tax paid out of state; so sales tax was a wash. I also paid an additional $55 for doc fees and a drive away permit. The Internet Sales Manager was very easy to work with. He explained everything about the vehicle and the price so there were no surprises when I arrived at the dealership. The pilot was ready to go and we spent about one hour going for a test drive, examining the vehicle, and doing the paperwork (I took advantage of Honda’s 2.9% financing). There are three Honda dealerships in Las Vegas and the best price I could negotiate was $29,556. So going out of state was well worth the effort.

I had planned on buying from Reliance Honda in Lake Jackson, TX, and they too were outstanding to work with. They were a little cheaper than Santa Ana Honda, but did not have the color my wife wanted. When I called Reliance to cancel my order, they could not have been nicer. They were happy I had found the exact vehicle I wanted.

I have purchased new vehicles before and the experiences were anything but pleasant. But the Internet has changed things. This time I dealt with two great dealerships, saved a lot of money, and enjoyed the whole experience. Good luck to all you new buyers and thanks to everyone who posted on this forum. You saved me a lot of money.

I posted a message 3-4 days ago about purchasing a Pilot in the Seattle area and since then have had a neighbor and co-worker purchase from the same salesman and dealership (Renton Honda). Both received about the same deal (one had Nav added and the other towing).

It's a struggle to find decent prices in the Northwest compared to other areas of the country (based on the quotes I've received). If anyone would like the salesman and sales manager I worked with at Renton Honda feel free to email me and I'll get you his name and contact information. My email is pjthompson5@yahoo.com

Hopefully if they maintain their pricing some of us in the Northwest can at least stay close to the rest of you.

I can't find a price anywhere near the prices in other states. Has anyone found comparable prices in Michigan?
• cmoe22cmoe22 Member Posts: 5
I searched all around Chicago and NW Indiana. I ended up this month getting a EXL 4WD with RES for $29,500 at Oak Lawn Honda.
This was the best price I could find. Im sure NAV instead of RES would be the same cost.
• keithrlkeithrl Member Posts: 32
Per earlier posts, I got a quote for EXL of 26,900 (plus TTL) and no RES or NAV at Valley Honda in Naperville/Aurora.

I dont know what that comes to with RES, but unless it is 2600, it would be a better deal. Valley Honda was great, as said I didnt buy there because I had equal deal from my own locality, but would recommend Valley Honda to Chicago area customers

I will be purchasing a new 2006 Pilot this weekend. Would like opinions on the driving experience of the 2006 Pilot 2WD and 4WD. I have no plans to take it off-road. And will take it to go snow skiing in Lake Tahoe once a year.

Also, would like info on breaking-in a new car engine. Long time ago, manufacturers recommended varying speeds during the first 1000 miles. Does this still apply nowadays for new cars? I am buying the Pilot in Los Angeles and driving 500 miles back home to Northern California.

Appreciate your feedback.

Soory to be so late getting back. Been out of town.

SussmanAutomotive and WillowGrove Honda is located in Willow Grove PA which is a suburb of Philadelphia. Forum rules prevent me from giving names and phone numbers but you can find the phone numbers on line Call and ask to speak to the "Sussman Internet Representative" The salesman I had was fantastic. No pressure. Quick with a quote which met the test as lowest against all the other quotes I received and didn't budge from his initial bid because he knew he didn't have to.

I purchased a 2006 Blue Steel Metallic Pilot EX/L 4WD for under $27,000 (taxes and tags extra). I passed on the Nav, DVD or RES and paid $1700 for Tow package, SideStep Rails and crossbars.
Good Luck
• mbrummbrum Member Posts: 5
Don't know exactly where you are located keygo, but after watching this board (thanks guys!) and holding out for about 3 months, I just bought a 2006 EX-L 4 X 4, Nighthawk Black Pearl with gray Leather at Fox Honda in Grand Rapids MI for $26540 including destination. + $170 doc fee & TTL. All done over the net and one phone call to confirm. Made an offer based on my research, they countered, I bought! Pick her up Friday! :shades:
• marymargmarymarg Member Posts: 7
I am trying to purchase a pilot also with the same configuration. Did you pay the 1700 on top of the 27000 or was that included? Any help with doing this is appreciated.

You may have to drive to Houston to get extra $1500. find Reliance Honda on Google.
• mbrummbrum Member Posts: 5
Here's the detail on my deal at Fox Honda in GR:

2006 Pilot, EX-L 4 X 4 $25,990
Destination = $550
Doc. Fee = $170
Add Tax @ 6% on $26710 (Vehicle + Destination + Doc Fee X 6%)= $1602.60
Title = $15
Plate Transfer = $8

Total Cost with all fees and tax = $28335.60 Clean and Simple :)

The $25990 is over $7000 off MSRP of $33,045! (They are advertising on local bill boards for $5000 off)

Emailed dealership from their website and told them the vehicle I needed and the price I had seen offered by another dealership, received a call within hours from a sales person...don't know if it's the "Internet manager" or just the sales person who got the lead. Negotiated a little and asked 'em to email the deal to confirm. Very pleasant process and a nice sales person.

Don't know if it was my color choice (as they have several black in stock) or if they will deal that much on all EX-L or all Pilots :confuse:

As long as there are no games played upon delivery, it will go down as the best "car deal" I have ever made :shades: Easy as an email and a phone call...

Don't forget about the 2.9% up to 36 months for excellent credit rated customers from AHFC!

I 2nd hgbee response, Reliance is worth the shot if you give them the opportunity to work with you. I can't be happier with my pre- and post experience with Reliance in Lake Jackson TX. And several in this forum have saved thousands and some have even come from out of state to enjoy the savings! my 2cents

Sue,

You can check inventory here

Request a Quote through Honda here

Depending on what you're looking for I can only assume that your quote would have a similar savings. They seemed to want to 'move' the Pilots.

If the numbers are good follow up with a call to verify all costs and get it in writing (fax). Take nothing for granted! I didn't run into any issues but it doesn't hurt to cover all the bases. Best of luck on your hunt.

These boards were so helpful in saving me a lot of money I feel obligated to post the details of my deal.

The salesperson made the first offer over the phone when I called the next day following a test drive. The offer was the same as the internet price I got on line, and exactly $3800 less than dealer invoice published on kbb.com, so I took it.

MSRP: 31,295 including $550 destination
Deal: 24,414 including $550 destination

The above does not include NJ sales tax, NJ tire tax of $1.50 per tire, NJ registration of $369 for 4 yrs and a ridiculously high doc fee of $298, but the vehicle price was so low and the experience so hassle free I didn't think it was worth making an issue over that amount.

(For new vehicles NJ charges up front for 4 yrs of registration - I know - it's a rip off but not the dealer's fault. The positive - you don't have to renew it until 2010.)

The sales person waited until delivery to tell me about the free wheel locks - a nice surprise.

We did the deal over phone/fax which turned out great. They faxed me the contract but I didn't sign it until I picked the vehicle up. And I never actually put a deposit down even though I had faxed them my credit card number. The dealer never put the credit card transaction through all of which I thought was amazing.

Someone here said your goal should be $7000 under MSRP. I definitely agree with that. For whatever reason Honda is looking to move Pilots. The dealer was Open Road Honda, btw.">

I am getting the same car at the same price and picking it up on Saturday. They were great to deal with. Now I hope I really love the car. It is my first Honda.

Thanks for the help.

We just picked up ours tonight. 2006 LX 4wd Amazon Green with rear splash guards from Victory Honda in Sandusky:

$23,900 purchase price ($28,794 MSRP)
$21,000 trade in for our 2005 Odyssey LX 16,000 miles
Kelley blue book trade in value on Odyssey $19,650
4.90% financing from Honda Finance.

NEVER thought I would see a deal like these in this forum on a Pilot!!!
• modeenmodeen Member Posts: 3
I am in northern Mn and the it seems there are no Pilots available??? They dealer is pushing the lease on a new Pilot and states the used ones are very rare? Should I think about buying a different vehicle? Other lots are offereing better deals but I really want the Pilot. How can I negotiate with the dealer when they state the sticker price is what it is??? I do not want to get ripped off? any thoughts???
• modeenmodeen Member Posts: 3
That sounds like a great deal..no one in northern mn is working it that way..maybe I need to go to Ohio to get the pilot I want!

I just wanted to let you know that after consulting this board(thanks), I just bought an EXL 2006 Pilot from Hopkins Honda. I just drove through their lot last night and they do have a good inventory. I offered what I was able to get from other dealers and they came very close. Our salesperson did such a nice job, I wouldn't go somewhere else for a few dollars, but they would not have gone as low without knowing I could go somewhere else for a better price. The best price I got was from Fox Honda in Grand Rapids Michigan. The base was about 26,500 including destination charges. They did not have alot of inventory though. Apparently there is some deal that the dealers can get to sell the pilot at a better price until July 30th. They were easy to work with, I just called the toll free number I got online. Does anyone have any thought about buying an extended warranty or rustproofing, interior protection package?
• mbrummbrum Member Posts: 5
Congrats on the purchase, I am picking mine up from Fox this afternoon.

My 2 cents on rust proofing, it's a profit center for the dealer. Your pilot is already protected by a 5 year unlimited mileage corrosion warranty...keep it touched up and it won't rust ;)

Same for interior protection, take good care of it and leather will last a very long time.

Extended warranty is a personal choice, I never do 'em, but other's do...I have taken several vehicles (Honda's and others) well over 100,000 miles and have never had reason to use an extended warranty. Most "bugs" are evident well within the standard 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. But it's your car, so whatever makes you comfortable :)

Hi, I've been following the forum for the last few weeks or so and I'm finally ready to purchase a Pilot EXL with navigation. Does anyone have any experience (good or bad) with any of the atlanta honda dealerships? What kind of prices are people getting in this area?

Also, a question about trading in a car (maybe the anonymous dealer can help me with this one!). I am currently driving a 99 Jeep that is owned by my father (who lives in ohio). The title is in his name but he has graciously offered to let me use it towards the purchase of the pilot. My question...what paperwork do I need to have in order to trade it in without having him fly down? Can I do a power of attorney? Any knowledge on the topic is appreciated! Thanks!!
