I'm in Seattle area and looking for the same car as well. Can you let me know which dealer ship you are talking to? Thanks.
  • goldieggoldieg Member Posts: 25
Thank you very much for your replies and insights. It really looks like a super good deal, I will contact the Dealership and talk to sales manager and get more concrete proof of their offer. One more thing, Do dealers send their best quotes in email as well ? It appears that i have to be really careful with this price and pay attention to any bait that they may be trying on me plus also the paperwork.

I wil keep you guys posted.
    BTW----Dealer is in Renton.

    Thanks,

    goldieg ;)

What is the manufacturer to dealer cash incentive? 1,500 or 2,000. Prices on the Pilot have seemed to drop a little so I was wondering if the incentive changed. Please respond

goldieg, kimpmui ... I too am planning a buying a Honda Pilot this month EX-L AWD. Don't know your timeline but I wonder if we should try and work together, scope out bids, fleet purchase? I happen to be near dealer goldieg is looking. I walked the front lot today looking them over. Lots of green, red, one blue, one gray, no black, no white some with NAV or other trim. I just want a plain EX-L no NAV no RES. It's actually going to be my wife's car replacing her old Honda. I haven't called on dealerships yet for bids. I've visited 4 dealers in the area and a couple test drives. We're trying to get specific on color choice, I have some mixed feelings about paint choices. I've seen one ad for EX-L at invoice and there was a past posting quote here for about $1K under. (State sales taxes are high here around 8.8%.) If you jump on one quick let us know your experience. I have impression there is good supply of Pilots, where the new CR-V is selling much faster. I'm open to ideas from the group if better to wait to last week of the month, I'm in no hurry unless something breaks again on the old Honda - then my wife will be most upset with me.

Is the Honda Care extended warranty available from Honda's website or other dealers online? We would plan to keep our next Honda long-term and our last Honda Care more than paid for itself so it was of good value despite repairs.

    suv4betsy,

I'm in the same situation as you are and I'm looking for a EX AWD with or without leather, no RES, no GPS neither. I can wait or buy it soon, all depending on the price I can get. Let me know if any of you interested in getting cars as a group.

    Hi Ezfresh,

Does your figure $30,300 include the %5 sale tax and paper works, etc and does your car have RES (DVD)? Thx.

    Kimpmui,
Definitely interested, try to drop me a note to my alias suv4betsy@carspace.com, email was down when I checked at 12:50pm.

Read my message 8451 (or click on my screen name for my previous posts).

The 2wd model is half the machine for only about 5% savings in price. If you get 10-20 bids email or fax on 2wd vs 4wd at the end of the month it may be less than that once you see how the offers pan out. There are 4x as many 4wd models as 2wd so this is the supply demand situation. The 2% savings in fuel mileage isn't worth it either as it may or may not be that much in actual practice.

    Hey,
Thanks for the prompt reply,I live in North Carolina and we went to few dealers in Charlotte. They Quote 24,500$+TTL = 27000$ whereas original MSRP was 30,XXX$..Can you tell me what will be right price to bargain and get it.?

I am not kind of automatic guy , Can u please give me information of why 2WD should be avoided.

    Thanks

Thats a good point jfritsch. I have been quite undecided between 2wd and 4wd. Curious, what do you think about the differences in maintenance costs and insurance between 2wd and 4wd?
  • suv4betsysuv4betsy Member Posts: 38
For me.. 2wd + Snow = Stuck, walking home cold and miserable, 4wd|awd + snow + careful driving = Home safely, warm and happy. There are other reasons, but I wouldn't be buying a 4wd if I didn't think I'd ever find myself in situations where I'd need it, such as in warm climate. Shudder the thought, but the minivan is probably the more effective (and priced better) hauler in 2wd for people and cargo. It seems most makes have dropped 4wd option for minivans there were more offering at one time. IMHO, I can make no sense out of buying an SUV class vehicle without 4WD. Consider resale value as well.
  • bugg216bugg216 Member Posts: 2
Please forgive my apparent ignorance, but could you please expand a bit on "the 2wd is half the machine." When comparing the vehicle specs I see the difference in the towing capacity and the slight difference in the horsepower. I am confused because the HP on the 4wd is actually lower. I am obviously not very savy when it comes to engines.

I am most interested in the pilot for the interior room. I don't plan on towing, but I will put on a hitch to hold my bike rack. I live in the mid-atlantic region, so I don't get enough bad weather to demand the 4wd so I was leaning toward the 2wd.

Thanks for any input. It took me long enough just to figure out which vehicle I wanted. Now I need to decide on the details. And then the real "fun" begins to find the best deal.

if you are interested than i am in the pool too. I am looking to buy in this month as well. send me email goldieg@gmail
and we can get together or decide.

    thanks,

The Honda Pilot brochure shows same hp for both, so I'm confused as well. The 2WD has the VCM however, deactivating rear 3 cylinders in effort to improve fuel economy. There's probably messages elsewhere in the forum that talks more of that effectiveness. Remindes me of the old Cadillac V8-6-4 - can't figure out why that car didn't fly!! ;)

I learned a lot from this forum. I want to share my buying experience to everybody.I just bought a Honda Pilot EX-L 4WD yesterday from Jim Riehl's (Metro Detroit,MI). My price 28,655, Out the door-30,672. I solicited price quotes from 10 dealerships near my residence. Some responded w/ prices. Price difference between dealerships about 1,000 to 3000. Lesson learned. Do comparison shopping. Get loan preapproval before you buy. Jim Riehl's Honda is the nearest to me. I higly recommend the internet sales manager. She's honest, doesn't play games & not pushy. I you live in Detroit, MI make sure you got a price quote from her. Sometimes the best price is just around the corner.BTW I love this car. Just enough power, smooth. I couldn't even tell if the engine is on. I love this man. Good luck. :)

Read my posts. Several people over the summer paid more for a 2wd than many did for 4wd. (With about 30% of folks reporting getting 7500 off an awd, someone getting 6500 off a 2wd may have been happy.) Thus, a $300 or less difference for far less capability. Someone could well work a 5000 off vs 6000 off difference now and have the same situation.

The fact that there are 4 awd's made for each 2wd puts the demand factor in your favor. Call your insurance agent and see the diff (probably less than $20/yr)

It also appears the 2wd has a (complex?) setup for shutting of cylinders, etc. Don't know if this involves an articulated (very complex) crankshaft like the Cadillac of years ago. (a flop). In any event, I don't know if I would want into this for an 8mpg difference much less 2 (7%). Since epa estimates vary by 10-15% per vehicle that is a wash.

I have no idea why anyone would want a 2wd Pilot. To save 5% or less for far less capability and no appreciable benefit. And of course trying to sell it later. Most other makes charge $2200 or more for awd and its almost a no brainer there too.

Go to myhondawarranty.com and price a hondacare warranty for a 2wd vs awd pilot. I would assume they are similar, giving you an idea of maintenance diff.

    Good luck

I am looking for a Pilot LX AWD, actually whatever I can find for $22,000. Is there any hope in St. Louis? I'm going with the more stripped down car to reduce costs.

Any definite word on what the march incentive is to dealers? I know someone said it was $1500 in Feb, but haven't seen a post on the March incentive (and it's not showing up in the consumer reports Car Price Report either.) I'm in the Boston area if that matters.

    Thanks

    Hi guys,
I need to buy a SUV (7 seats at-least) and I like Honda so guess I’ll go for Honda Pilot.

Can you please guide me in -

    1. 2WD vs. 4WD:
I live in Southern California (Orange County) so i don't go in any snow area. Is it better to get 2WD or 4WD for this weather?

    2. Price / Group buy:
What should be good price for such trims?
If anybody wants to buy together i am ready to go and get it.

    3. Mode of payment:
Can we pay by credit card? I’m just wondering if I can get some mileage points out of this big buy.
Do dealers accept our checks? In the past i had taken loan check from credit union and that had worked.

    4. How to negotiate?
Yesterday I called one dealer and the sales guy offer was nowhere close to the amounts I’m seeing on this forum.

    5. Comparative SUV:
Is there any other economical SUV I should consider?

Thanks in advance for commenting to my questions.

Put out 10-30 requests for bids last week of the month, to all the Honda dealers within a radius of your locale. Email or fax. Give your Cell #. Email seems to be the preferred method. This is easy from Honda dealer locator on their website. Give the 1-2 model(s) you are interested in, options and 1st-3rd choice in colors. Tell them you are contacting 20 dealers, and will buy before months end. Tell them you need their best shot as you don't have much time from work. (It may take 2-4 iterations with the best to get their true best shot) There really is no other time to buy a car than month's end.

This may flush out 1-4 eager beavers needing to meet a sales target for the month. See how the callbacks work out the last few days . Try to work with the Sales manager with the few serious ones. What incentives are in the whole isn't usually public knowledge so you really need to flush it out this way, and see what they will cough up. (Who will bid lowest) Flexibility on models/colors is a plus. 40% or so of those manufactured seem to be silver.

Go to edmunds.com and get your #'s (MSRP and such) together on your models of interest. Don't take the edmund's TMV "what others are paying" too seriously though.

Read my post 8516 on 2wd vs 4wd. and such.

Forget about a Fleet purchase as you won't buy enough from them to be worthwhile and sometimes individuals get a better price. (You're spending your money vs other people's money)

Dealers will accept your check but may require ID and SSN .
Dealers may let you put some of the amount on a credit card, but if you really work a good deal they may limit it to $500-1000. If you give them a ton of profit they may accept $10000+. Do put a small deposit (if required) on a credit card. If not driving home that day.

Economical SUV seems an oxymoron so I don't know. I like the Pilot best and the Trailblazer. I've seen ads for $8000 off a TB and thats the only way I'd buy it. New 100000 mi warranty for 07 Chevy too. I think the 07 4 runner is available for about 3k off, although you'd have to work it as above to get the true bids.

Need an expert to comment back to you, but my guess is that your quotes are showing the rumored $2,000 factory to dealer cash for March under invoice (w/o Honda financing). I've seen the NAVI price $2K above base, I don't know if it should be discounted more. Is there more if you can hold out for end of month and end of quarter sales quotas??

I live in the Philly area and just completed a deal for a 2007 AWD Pilot EX-L w/Nav (aberdeen green). What sucks is I have to wait a week to pick it up!

I got it for $30,966 b4 tax and tags.

I just want to thank everyone on the site, it has been a ton of help!
  • stidesfortystidesforty Member Posts: 3
Answering my own question here, but i just got an email quote from a Boston area dealer that explicitly showed a $2000 dealer cash incentive on a 07 AWD EX-L (no financing.) $28,300 before tax and tags (but including dealer fees) was the opening offer.
  • jbl8jbl8 Member Posts: 40
Last year the price for EX-L 4WD is

    $26500 include dest.

Your quote is kind of high for 2WD. Gas price is shoot up, why not wait for a month or two. It will save your $2K. :lemon:
  • dolsey01dolsey01 Member Posts: 92
The Lynn area Honda Dealer was offering $28,400 during the President's Day sale when the dealer cash was $1500 so you should have no problem getting it for less than 28K. I bought a 07 AWD EX-L NAV at that time for 30,400 with the special financing.

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for all your comments. It was helpful.

    Here is my buyin experience.
    --
    Price:
Yesterday i bought 2WD EX L, with Nav.
    Price: 29,318
    OTD: 31,950
As additional comps I got mats, wheel locks, mud guards, cargo tray and one free oil change.
    --
    Experience:
I had negotiated and settled for price before i went to the dealer. I asked sales managers to beat the best offer i already had.
Before i went there i also asked for color(nimbus grey) and i told that i want low mileage on it. He said they got it and the miles on it is low and defintely not more than 70.
On reaching, i test drove a pilot and didn't know he was going to stick that car to me. It had 70+ miles and it seemed to be demo car.
I didn't want that car. They tried their best to sell me that car and it was not pleasant experience. Ultimately, after2 hours they got me from different dealer with v low mileage (that included driving distance) and i took that. The experience after that was pleasant.
    --
Payment: They allowed upto 3000 on credit card.
    --
Let me know if i got a good deal. Well i could not have waited longer. I needed a car.

5500 off is pretty good on a navi model, especially if you needed your color and needed a ride. If the other $2600 was tax and about 150 in other fees and you actually got your deal trading with another dealer thats another plus.

    Happy Ridin'

I have an appointment with a dealer tomorrow and their offer is 29,073. It seems good compared to the other offers I've received , but I'm curious to hear opinions about how much lower I could work it down to. Title and Fees will add $212.50 and it will be taxed at a lower amount yet to be determined because I'm trading in our 2001 Civic.

Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

Well I have finally decided which model (EX-L 4WD) and have sent price requests to about 10 dealers in my area. I specifically asked for their best OTD price. Of course the responses are coming in every variation except OTD. It makes is tough to do a comparison. I am trying to do this via email until I narrow down the dealers. Any suggestions on how to get them to give me the OTD price?

    Thanks!
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
If thats for a awd and you are saving about $6500, that is very good. I could tell you how to shop your trade, but that would take paragraphs. The books (edmunds, nada kbb.com) on used car values can be a good estimate. (Get all 3) Look your trade up and try to get the highest wholesale you can. I usually walk out unimpressed to think about their best deal and get lunch and leave my cell #. Negotiating is an art. Taking a time out to review the deal is good anyway for a major purchase.

Whether they are yanking you around you will find out.

If you can, and if they are within 200-300 mi send out 10 more bid requests. Taxes are the same in your state so its just title and fees you need. Tell them you are getting 20 bids and give your cell # and will buy soon. The last 7 days of the month the top 2-4 (most eager) will sort themselves out. Finalizing anything with the sales manager is best.

Your vehicle is $33600? MSRP. Know the taxes in your state.

    You want 6-7k off MSRP.

    Hello 461clapton,
I am also shopping for the 2007 Pilot 4WD EX-L RES. I am amazed that you have got such a great deal. I just want to reconfirm that you were quoted $29073 + Tax + Title + other fees.
Is this correct? Once you buy this then could you please tell the dealer's name.

    Hi guys,

I learned quite useful info from this forum just before I bought mine and thus saved some extra $. Thanks!

Now the dealer's will includes a full tank of gas when I go for services in the first year. So I am curious how much that is worth, that is, how many regular services I'd need for the 1st year? Thanks for any inputs!

We purchased the Pilot this weekend. It is a 2007 Pilot 4WD EX-L RES in Nimbus Gray. The price was $29,073+Tax+Title+ $89 Service Fee.

I was origanlly quoted $29,596, but the internet person I was dealing with came back with the following:

"I found a 2007 Pilot EXL-RES in Nimbus Gray/Gray that arrived on our lot before the invoice increase from Honda. The stock # is 31635 and the current internet price on that vehicle is $29,073 plus applicable fee."

The dealer is Wilde Honda in Waukesha, WI. This is the second vehicle we purchased from them and both times we found their prices untouchable. I believe their claim is being the #1 volume dealer in Wisconsin.
