Some one got a deal of 28200 from A honda dealer in Matteson, IL. Go back and see few posts. Some one got one for that price. It was a AWD.

Hello all, I am just beginning my search for the best deal on a 2008 Honda Pilot 4WD EX-L with Navi. I have found the invoice price on this unit with destination to be $32,905.00 is this correct? So that less the $3500.00 incentive puts me at $29,405.00 do you feel this to be a good target or is a better deal to be had if holdback is considered? Thanks!!!
  • oldtaurusoldtaurus Member Posts: 7
No, -$4500 is your target. The best showed here in the thread is -$4700 for 4WD EXL with Navigation. I had a look on the navigation system and feel it isn't that great: not touch screen, no text to speech so it doesn't speak the street name. I don't think it worthes extra $2000.

Honda Care Warranties are far better and less trouble than aftermarket warranties. Aftermarket companies require an approval before work can be performed. During that process, they contact Honda for warranty information. Cut the middle man and get the Honda Care and save some headache.
  • robjones1robjones1 Member Posts: 3
Pilots have 3500 Dealer Cash so getting that upfront is good BUT if you go to KBB.com you can get the invoice price....add 635 to that then subtract the Invoice from the MSRP...add the sum to 3500 and that will give you an idea of what you have to work with.....

GREAT DEALERSHIP TO DO BUSINESS WITH!
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
I have a 2006 Pilot with navi and it is touch screen and it calls out the street names, so unless Honda has made a major change to its Navi on the '08 Pilot (I doubt that) the Navi should be touch screen. The default for the Navi is not set to call out the street names, you should go to the menu and set the description to "max" to get it mention actual street names.

On a related note, Honda may not include the touch screen to the 2009 model Navi as is the case with my 08 Accord, but it still calls out the street names and it is great.
  • oldtaurusoldtaurus Member Posts: 7
I believe you should be right. I tried out the Navi System for about 15min. The dealer told me it didn't speech street name and we had to use sticker to move the cursor around to locate point of insterest. Of cause, you as a user is more knowledgable than the dealer. By the way, do you want to pay $2000 for the navi if you buy Honda again?
  • wanapilotwanapilot Member Posts: 8
I have an EX-L w/Navi. I believe the navi has a gyroscope and so even if the navi cannot receive satellite signals (below bridges, tall trees, in tunnels etc), it will still track where you are. You can also use voice command and the thing I love best is the back up camera. Helps greatly with safety and avoid dent in the rear bumper. I do not beleive you can get these features in any portabel GPS unit. For me, it was money well spent. Of course, you need to decide for yourself what these features are worth for you.

I was looking for a 2wd 2008 pilot /navi, the goodson Honda in HOuston quoted me $28,150. The Honda at Katy beat that price for $27,500. Hope this help.

Has anyone else heard that the finance deals might be coming back? I know they were offered in certain states as of Feb, but had gone away. I hear they might be returning at 2.9% for 1-48 mos, and 3.9% for 60. Can anyone confirm?
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
    1) Go to www.ebay.com
    2) Buy crystal ball
    3) Upon arrival, ask it what will happen in the future

    :D

Seriously, I don't know why folks keep asking these questions. Only Honda knows and they are not telling us - and why should they? If you will buy a Pilot today with the incentive money then why throw in discounted financing too? If they said "If we don't sell a lot of Pilots in March we will leave the incentives in place and add 2.9% 60 month financing in April" why would anyone buy now?

One thing to note, it years past when they had a nationwide cheap financing deal it was in lieu of all or part of the dealer incentive.

  • illini7illini7 Member Posts: 19
Actually, I can confirm this as true. I heard from a dealer in the St. Louis area today that the financing rates would run from March 14 - March 24th. 2.9% for 12-36 months, and 3.9% for 37-60 months. This includes the $3500 dealer incentive. Happy shopping!
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
It is probably a regional deal or did they say? That is good news for those that live where the cheap money will be available - but wasn't it 1.9% and 2.9% last month?

    Dennis
  • chicagobuyerchicagobuyer Member Posts: 6
    Hi Dennis,

Although I am also a cynic most of the time, in this particular case I think we might have an edge. Looks like Honda wants to move these babies out. I also confirmed with the dealer that the 2.9 and 3.9% deal will go into effect this weekend. They wanted me to pick up the car today, but I told them to hold it until I have the approval that I am getting the low rate. This is with the 3500.

So, for me, it will be 28,700 for an EX-L with Navi, all fees included, plus tax. hope this one turns out to be as good as my previous purchases - 97 Accord, 2000 Accord, and a 2004 Accord.

I will post the name and info on the dealer once the deal is final.
  • velomonkey3velomonkey3 Member Posts: 7
Just confirmed that 2.9% and 3.9% will be effect in Denver as of Saturday. On the downside I can't get any dealer to go below $30,000 + tax for a 4wd EX-L w/ RES or Nav. And I was going to pay cash. I pulled out the checkbook as was ready to pay $29,200 and they let me walk. Please tell me how you are getting those deals.
  • codrivercodriver Member Posts: 21
Which dealer let you go at $29,200? Fisher/Planet were giving a quote at around $29.4K.
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
"...do you want to pay $2000 for the navi if you buy Honda again? ..."

Actually, yes!, I did it a couple of months ago when I bought my 08 Accord. I just like the nice fit and "part of the car" design look of it to begin with. Larger screen, compared to most portables, and a lot of built-in functionality and features are great. Like "wanapilot" also mentioned, to me it is more than just a navigation system. The backup camera is great (a separate option on the 08 Accord that I had to pay extra $660 for) and also I enjoy the voice command features, even though not used often on the Pilot (it gets a lot more use on the Accord since the Accord also has hands free blue tooth and audio mp3 player and I control them both with voice commands). I must say I like the touch screen on the Pilot but that will probably change for the 09.
  • velomonkey3velomonkey3 Member Posts: 7
Mile High on Havana let me walk. Go Honda was over by $2000, their "best price". I am going to Schomp and Planet on Friday.
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
Are you not getting internet quotes? It seems like you are actually visiting the dealerships trying to get your best deal. If you haven't done so, I would just send out 10-15 internet requests to the area (150 mile radius) dealers and get quotes.
  • velomonkey3velomonkey3 Member Posts: 7
I started with internet quotes and worked from there. I went to Mile High because they had the lowest price. I figured I would see the Internet Manager , make my offer and close the deal. I did not get an internet bid from Schomp or Planet, just going in with check book.
  • oldtaurusoldtaurus Member Posts: 7
After four days shopping for a Pilot, the deal is $25481 for a AWD EX including doc fee but exclude any government tax and registration ($28050 OTD). I actually received another offer $300 lower, but the color wasn't we want and there was over 100 miles on that car. The dealer has done extra tint on the Pilot we bought as well as wheel locks, which are necessities in Phoenix.

Was offered $900 for 7 years 100,000 warranty. Not sure good deal or not.
  • codrivercodriver Member Posts: 21
It's strange since the internet manager from MileHi offered me a quote of $29,680 for an EX-L AWD with RES. Tell him you are aware of the $3500 dealer cash incentive.

What was the internet quote he gave you?
  • fiufiu Member Posts: 25
Called dealers in Seattle area, they said there will be no financing promotion, they even called Honda to check. I asked them to call me back tomorrow to confirm it again.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
Probably regional - in states where they have the most Pilots sitting on the lots, I guess. You can put in any ZIP code you want on the "current offers" page at Honda and see what is available in your area or anywhere else. I think this promo is supposed to start Friday?

I can see why a dealer would disclose this deal - it is coming mid-month so telling a customer to wait a few days to get cheap money makes the customer happy and still nets the dealer a sale for this month. In addition, folks who look solely or mainly at the payment are likely to pay the dealer MORE for the same Pilot when the money is cheap. So you "save" by waiting but some customers let them make more profit. I would bet that if the dealer knew the cheap money was coming next month, they would not be as forthcoming at the cost this month's sales :D .

OK, maybe dumb question, but how do you send out a 150 mile radius quote request? Please advise! Thank you! :)
  • djangodjango Member Posts: 13
Is it a AWD or FWD ? For a AWD that would be a good price.
Can you give me details of dealership which quoted you that price.

    Dear all:
I saw on fatwallet.com one person posted e-mail from Gwinnett Place Honda suburb of Atlanta that a 2008 vp 2wd pilot sale price as 21165. have someone here bought at this price? The dealer I contacted quoted me as 22880.

    thanks

I live in the Omaha, Nebraska area and I sent out 8 different quote requests within about 1.5 hours from Omaha for a Nimbus Grey 2008 Honda Pilot EX-L 4WD w/navi. I asked for all factory options available, no dealer add-ons and I got a quote back in about an hour. We test-drove the same vehicle quoted at a different dealership today and we got their best-price of the day, $33,500. Uh... choke... :surprise: I dont think so. So this internet quote I got from another dealership that I know very well, sent me this exact quote:

    Year: 2008
    Make: Honda
Model: Pilot EX-L 4WD with Navigation System
    Original Price: $36,280
    Special Internet Price: $29,999
(Splash guards included at no additional charge!)

I have written back to ask them if the $36,280 was the MSRP or the Sticker price, but I thought i'd ask you all what you think of this deal. There was no mention of the 3.9% financing available starting this weekend, however I know its available because of the dealership we test-drove one at today.

    What say you?

I say you its a great price OTD, but not a good price if they add TTL and other things.

How timely - just had a true OTD price of $31430 (that's EVERYTHING folks including 8% IL tax) for the same exact car: 2008 EX-L w/Navi in Nimbus (gray int). Dealer did present a $29998 OTD as a "cocktail napkin" committment but the dealer wouldn't itemize upon my request so I called them on it. Financing was not there, even though another regional dealer was offering 2.9%

Too bad for them as I had a check ready to go tonight. Will have to find someone to meet my price. I will cough up the check once they itemize sub-30K.

Related question: what it is with dealers who don't want to disclose an itemization of invoice, dest, and TTL? I specifically requested this level of detail to seal the deal but was met with great resistance.

Don't get me wrong - I'm close here on price and I know they need to do business, but I have the $ and they want the $. That allows me to walk for any reason.

Next time, I'm going in with an itemization for them ;)
  • andyman1970andyman1970 Member Posts: 47
In 5 minutes of negotiation, price goes from

    $36280 plus TTL
    to
    $34280 plus TTL
    to
    $31430 OTD

And we're not done yet. But soooooo close. Some lucky dealer is hungry enough.

Folks its simple - old inventory is bad; MUST get rid of 2008s to make room for the 2009s. George Bush's tax relief check won't be here in time for the 2008s so these things gotta go NOW.

Of course, after this purchase, I won't have any money left  But I WILL have a beautiful Pilot at a fantastic price.
  • pilot08pilot08 Member Posts: 1
We are also in Phoenix. Can you tell me which dealer you purchased at and did you get an internet price or walk into Fleet?
  • oldtaurusoldtaurus Member Posts: 7
Tempe has lowest price. We bought from Superstition Spring because of its large selection. I basically sent out email to give offer (lowest price from this thread) to buy and they gave counter offers.
  • velomonkey3velomonkey3 Member Posts: 7
MileHi internet quote was for an EX-L 4wd of $28220. When we got to the dealer my wife wanted the NAV because of the rearview camera. Burt Kuni had $29,728.65 plus tax and a dealer prep fee of $399. I am going to see two other dealers to see if $29,000 + tax can me out the door on Friday with a new 4wd EX-L w/ NAV or RES. I will be sure to mention the dealer incentive.
  • parvizparviz Member Posts: 484
No dumb questions. we are all learning from each other!
What I did was to go online (Google and Honda website) and get the names of the dealers in the area (you can search by zip code, city name, etc.) and then I went to their websites and either submitted an online inquiry or just emailed them directly asking them for a quote with specific and detailed info on the exact car I wanted. make sure ask them to give you the total price including destination separate from TTL (tax, license and title). Also later before you go see any of these dealers, either call or email and make sure the car is the exact car, model, color, low ,mileage, etc. as you have in mind. To get the best price you will need to do some leg work. What I also did was to go online and check the dealer inventory (some list it on their websites). The dealers who actually have the exact car that you are looking for will most likely give you the best quote. Good luck.

Well, here in the deep south:

The information on the 2008 Honda Pilot is as follows:

    MSRP with destination (Window sticker):$32,680 EX-L 2WD
    Honda
Our price** as equipped from the factory:$26,050

    I'm not done bargaining.....
  • chevynovalnchevynovaln Member Posts: 10
    andyman1970,

The whole shopping around and getting a great price is now much easier because of stuff i've learned simply by reading these forumns, but i'm going to go out on a limb and say that I'm still clueless about the OTD price. You said you wanted an itemized list, are you talking about Purchase price, Doc Fee's (not sure what those even are), Tax, etc? I can probably see getting it for under $30k excluding Tax but I guess i'm just confused on what you're trying to get sub-$30k before signing paperwork. :confuse:

this will be our first larger purchase, up until now its always been a smaller car (Honda Civic 4-door (2005)), 2002 Cavalier, etc... relatively cheap compared to this so I didn't bargain near as much on them. If you're bored and want to type up what you believe is an idiots guide to purchasing the exact care we are apparently both looking for, I'm all eyes. ;) Same goes for anyone else. We had planned on waiting a month, but if we can find an awesome deal during the 3.9% over the next 10 days we may dive in a bit early.

    Thanks in advance!

oh... by the way, in Nebraska (not sure about other states), Tax is not paid at the dealer. We have to go to the courthouse and pay the taxes when we register the vehicle, get plates/stickers, etc... Not sure if that affects what you guys are always talking about with Tax/Title/License.

I just got an e-mail from my Honda dealer not even a month after purchase for the special 2.9% financing! I had to haggle with them to get 4.8%, and even that was a stretch. I might call and complain. See if they can do anything for me. I haven't felt any buyer remorse until right now. I loved the price I paid, but that financing would be so much nicer. They also mention something about a gift card with purchase. Here is the message from Holmes Honda out of Des Moines, IA:

If you've been considering a vehicle purchase, now is the time to buy a new Honda.

Holmes Honda is pleased to announce that for 10 days only, starting March 14, 2008, we are able to offer 2.9% APR financing on most new Honda models!* As you know, this is an extremely rare opportunity which is usually offered only once or twice a year. Our used vehicle department is in great need of inventory so we will also be offering top trade-in values for all makes.

If you mention this e-mail when you are purchasing your new vehicle, I will give you a $100 Holmes gift card. If you are not currently in the market for a vehicle, please pass this on to a friend. If they mention this e-mail when they purchase, they'll receive a $100 Holmes gift card!

Have a great day - I hope to see you soon!

*2.9% APR with qualified credit for 36 months. 3.9% APR with qualified credit for up to 60 months. Available on new 2008 Honda Accord, Pilot, Odyssey, Civic and S2000 models. Expires 3-24-08.

Is this from American Honda or is it dealer specific? I called my dealer here in NY and they never heard of it? PLEASE HELP! I am buying tomorrow!
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
I think it is been posted many times that this is a REGIONAL deal. In some cases if you buy from a dealer in a state that has the cheap money you can get it, in other cases it is based on where you live.

We had cheap money here for "President's Day" and I got e-mails from the local dealers, lots of TV and radio ads, etc. For this? Nothing - we had it last month.

Good luck! Could you please let me know how it goes after your purchase negotiation today? I am shopping for car this weekend too.

    Thanks.
  • joeyjoejoejoeyjoejoe Member Posts: 68
You could always have your local dealer call or contact the one that sent me the e-mail. I outlined in the previous post that it was Holmes Honda in Des Moines, IA. Do a quick google search to find their web page and contact info. You could even go as far to say that you have family in Des Moines that would purchase the car and ship/drive it out to you if the price difference is that dramatic. I don't know how much it costs to ship a vehicle, but I don't think it would be more than $200 or so. Worth a shot at least. Good luck!
  • velomonkey3velomonkey3 Member Posts: 7
Schomp Honda offered 4WD ex-l w/ NAV for 31,280 and with RES 31,680. I walked again. I just have no luck with Honda dealers. After the Colorado State tax credit of over $4000 for a $35,000 plus tax 08 Highlander Hybrid it dose not make much sense to buy a Pilot until they cost closer to $29,000. The Highlander comes with rear camera which all my wife wants anyway and gets way better MPG. I can do without leather seats and already have a portable NAV. So, looks another Toyota for me to match my 08 Camary Hybrid.
  • dwynnedwynne Member Posts: 4,018
    $28k for an EX-L w/Nav is not a realistic price right now - as invoice is $32,905. Then take off the $3,500 dealer money and all of hold back and you can't get to $28,000;

That said, I put in a Denver ZIP code in carsdirect.com and the price comes up $30,307 which is a lot better than what you were quoted. Might be worth a follow up with them to see who the dealer is that is offering that. You SHOULD be able to do at least invoice less $3,500 but if no area dealer will go that low then you either have to travel, pay what they want, or get something else.

I just got another quote from a dealer in the Omaha, Nebraska area that is $29,892.14 for a 2008 Honda Pilot 4WD EX-L w/Navi in Nimbus Grey Metallic. I'm waiting on confirmation that the price is an out the door price, but i'm thinking that i'm not going to find much better around here, that and they actually have the Nimbus Grey color available. Most dealers do not seem to have that color on hand. The internet sales rep also said that they ARE doing the 3.9% for 37-60 months W.A.C. I wish it was less, but 3.9% is pretty good.

So as it turns out, there really are no Nimbus Grey 4WD EX-L w/Nav available within about 200 or so miles from us. I just got a call back now from the original dealership (our preferred one that offered $33,500 originally) and they came back with $29,800 with no accessories, which is what we asked for. I think i've found my deal, although we're going to end up getting Black instead of Nimbus Grey. Setting up an appointment for either Monday night or Tuesday afternoon to go talk numbers regarding trade-in. For those interested, the one Nimbus Grey Pilot available I mentioned is a bit south of Kansas City. We could get it, but the dealer said it'd cost close to $400 and thats a deal breaker. Black it is :)
