Since the dealer did not have the color I wanted (Bali Blue with Gray interior) I put $500 deposit on Friday. This afternoon I got phone call from the salesman 'hi, your truck is here'. They made a dealer exchange for me for free but with 134 miles on the new car. I have to accept it because I contacted at least 8 dealers in philly area no one has that color., I didnt ask where they got this car from.

    It is a 09 Pilot 4WD Touring/Navi.
    Purchasing price 32,895 including destination
Trade in 6,600 (2000 Toyota Sienna with roof rack and towing pkg, 48k mileage, kbb trade in price at excellent condition is 6,450. Very happy with that)
    PA sales tax 1,577.70
    All other fees 152.65
Payed 500 deposit, financed all the rest $27,525.35 for 36mo at 1.9%

It's Piazza Honda at Philadelphia, very easy to work with. I went to another 3-4 dealers who quoted me between 32,895 to 33,040 but none of them would like to give me more than 6k for my Sienna.

Thanks you all for great information and experience.

The first dealer I visited offered $4,000 off on all 09 Pilots, and an additional $1,000 off if the vehicle had leather. Since I was looking for an AWD Touring, without even negotiating or requesting the $2,000 incentive, they were $5,000 off MSRP. I later contacted 3 other dealers in the Boston area all via the internet and received many offers around $33k.

Last night I picked up my AWD Touring with RES from the Honda Gallery in North Reading, MA. It is sterling grey with black leather interior, which turned out to be a hard to find color combination in the area at the time. I paid $33,271, which includes the $300 doc fee and destination. The dealer also added the wheel locks for free, without my asking which was a nice little bonus. I did not purchase any other accessories or have a trade. I also took the 3.9% financing.

All of the dealers, except the first, was pretty agressive on pricing. If I had worked them a bit more, I may have been able to shave off another $100 to $200, but it was not worth the hassle. Overall, I was happy with the price and the vehicle is great.

I am just making sure I understand your deal. The list on this car is 39995 plus 670 destination for a total of 40665 before TTL. Are you saying that you paid 33271 for a 4WD touring with RES? That is 6724 off list--that seems like a lot. Please let me know if that is correct.
  • ipswichgregipswichgreg Member Posts: 15
Yes, I purchased an AWD Touring w/ RES for 33,271, which included a $300 doc fee and destination, before TTL. I did get the benefit of the $2,000 incentive, which has now expired. The dealers were all eager to make a sale and prices were close, although some were elusive about their doc fee.

I want to make sure I understand -- the deals that you folks are getting ... are these on Pilots that are on the lot? Are there any deals if you order one?

    Thanks!

My local dealer is telling me (today) that $2000 off on ’09 Pilots is “on.” This replaces the $4000 off that they did have going.

I am curious what anyone else is finding

I would truly appreciate any feedback on the following deal:

2008 Honda Pilot EX-L 2WD in Mocha Metallic w/ Saddle Leather

Please note NO RES or NAV

    MSRP: $32,680
    Purchase Price: $25,962.45

After Texas Sales tax of $1,622.66 and local/state fees of about $220, the final drive out price is $27,805.09.

By "off", do you mean off MSRP? If so, this would be consistent with what others have posted, in that the previous $2000 factory-to-dealer incentive is gone. AFAIK, there never was a $4000 factory-to-dealer incentive.
  • ipswichgregipswichgreg Member Posts: 15
When I confirmed the price via email with the dealer, he said they had one on the lot. Well, suprise, surprise, they didn't when I went in. They said they would locate one. They ultimately found one with low mileage (<50) and got it from another dealer. That location and exchange process took a few extra days, but I was able to get the color combination I wanted.

I would say that's outrageous, and to go for it. I think the MSRP is higher for the model, but dealers are allowed to price them as they wish. OTD @ just under 28K is amazing. And about a grand better than I had seen. (Though I have a diff color which I love).

Congrads on your new 2009 Ex. I was originally looking at that suv just before Honda brought out the 2000 dealer incentive. Pushed me to the Exl. Both great trim lines. Still wish I could have got the Touring but I set my limit based on appropriate funds. I'm just glad to see that more people are getting interested in this great car.
  • enxagaenxaga Member Posts: 30
I just missed the 2000 incentive and they quote me 28,900 for an EX. Seems like everybody else got a great price. anybody else have a better price in the LA area? I live in Bakersfield and the local dealers are just blind to notice how many people are looking for a great deal.

We picked up our AWD EX-L last Thursday [deal was struck before Sep 3, so $2000 dealer incentive was still in play]. Purchased from Buerkle Honda St. Paul, MN-through internet sales manager [we live in Western WI].
    Key numbers:
    MSRP =$35,195 Destination=$670 Total=$35,865
    Invoice=$31,863 + 670 Destination=$32,533
    Vehicle sale price=$30,400
    Doc Fee=$50
    WI Sales Tax=$1,672
    WI License & Registration=$151.50

    Total OTD incl TTL=$32,293.50

Very low key offer/ counter-offer, easy purchase process. Not the best price I've seen on this board for an EX-L, though I didn't push for the very last dollar, as we were happy to get the color combination we wanted [Dark Cherry pearl/Beige int.]--this Pilot was in the build cue when we struck our deal in Mid-late August [and dealers in the hinterland may not have the big inventories that are found in coastal cities]. Information on this board was extremely helpful. Thanks to all who post here.

I dealt with a dealership in Germantown, MD to get my price. I got teh 09 EXL Pilot with door edge guards, bluetooth, XM radio, cargo cover and cargo tray & roof rails for $34,000 flat out the door which means after tax tags and everything. The only other thing I wish I had added was the wiring harness for the trailer hitch. That may have increased my price $100-200 potentially if I would have added it. Anyways, I ultimately bought the Pilot in Tyson's Corner VA since it is closer. I had the quote in hand and they matched it through our e-mail exchanges. Once we agreed on teh price we set up a time to pick it up and purchase I worked with a guy named Ivan in Tyson's Corner. The guy in Germantown, MD was the only person I could get everything in writing at that price though. Don't have his name though at this moment. I negotiated a lot and used this forum alot. You should definitely be able to get my price though. Good luck.

I'm not going to buy a suv that costs $2000 more today than it did 10 days ago.
  • austinrocksaustinrocks Member Posts: 2
its actually in killen, cleo bay honda.
  • ed111ed111 Member Posts: 22
Agreed. In today's world, thirsty SUV's should not be going up in price.

At least the 0.9% financing is back on until 11/3/08.

I agree with you j_ho. I am going to wait until Honda offers the $2000 dealer incentive again, even if it takes 6+ months. I am in no hurry to buy my new Pilot. I would have to imagine that the market is going to continue to be difficult for SUVs, even Hondas. The fact that they offered that money and the low rate virtually from day one of a brand new model makes me think that they know they will have to offer it again sometime in the near future.
  • tdr_hondatdr_honda Member Posts: 8
I was surprised that the $2000 incentive was dropped. But I did notice that Pilot sales were up in August 2008 over the same month in 2007. But still in today's auto market, it does not make sense for Honda to drop the incentive. I am betting that sales will fall back off without the incentive and it will return in October. Also noticed that Odyssey sales were way, way down and they increased the incentive on the 2008's to $3500. Kind of strange that the Pilot sales were up and the Odyssey went down.

I think people are starting to realize what a nice job Honda appears to have done with the 2009 Pilot. I am anxious to get one, but will not do without the incentive.
  • dl1966dl1966 Member Posts: 1
I agree. I'm waiting until there is another incentive for at least $2,000. I didn't hear about the last one until it was too late. Was it advertised anywhere? I only learned about it from this site.
  • bigdadi118bigdadi118 Member Posts: 1,207
Odyssey is way down & pilot is up ... that reflects my switch from Odyssey to Pilot 5 months ago.

Odyssey has its problems: wind noise, soft brake, droning noise, FWD only. I need 4WD due to NE winter.

I sent emails to several dealers in the Boston/Worcester area for prices on this vehicle. Can you please list what you have paid for the same vehicle? I will let you know what I receive. Im looking at a straight EX-L no RES. and hope to purchase in the next couple of days.
  • vthogonvthogon Member Posts: 3
In Tyson's Corner, VA I paid about 3 weeks ago $34,000 out the door for an 09 Pilot EXL with the following accessories:

    Door edge guards
    Blue tooth
    XM radio
    Cargo cover
    cargo tray
    premium side rails
    roof rack rails

That price included tax, tags, delivery charge etc. My final price was an even $34,000. I worked with a guy named Ivan. Also, I got the same price in Germantown, MD. I negotiated everything online and bought in Tyson's because it was closer to me. The only thing I would have done different was negotiated the wiring harness into the price since it does not come with the stock trailer hitch. The wiring harness is additional. List price is ~180. I thought about it afterwards and you pay full price plus labor at that point. Oh well.
  • mplshondadlrmplshondadlr Member Posts: 409
That same pricing does not apply today because Honda to dealer incentives changed :(

Congrats on your purchase though - sounds like you made an awesome deal!

Has anyone purchased a Touring with NAV and RES since Sept. 2nd? Have you been able to negotiate any great deals even though the $2000 incentive is officially off? If so, please give details. I am especially looking for pricing in the midwest.

Since you are a Honda Dealer are there any new incentives that you would like to share?
  • kidschlepperkidschlepper Member Posts: 6
I am looking to purchase a 09 pilot EX-L with no res. I live in MA and am getting quotes ranging around $31000.00 to $32,000.00 mark. These prices include destination charge, doc fee, plates, title, registration. They do not include sales tax which is 5% in MA. Does this seem about right or is there more room to negotiate? Im not adding any other options/accessories.

Thanks, I hope to purchase this weekend.

I had a offer $34,086 +TTL (last month) dealer did not have my color ( black with gray interior), called Tuesday 9/9/08 the price today $36,086 ( he was able to get black on black).
I am visiting Michigan this week, a dealer offer to beat the price by $500 with my color ( black withh gray) but 'I said by $1000 and I willl be willing to drive the 900 miles in my new car.
I will probably wait until the incentives come back. Unless it starts snowing before then.
What I did was, got the best price online (different states) and took the best $33,600 to my local dealer to see what they can do.
People here were paying $2000 more a month ago- he next honda dealer is 100 miles away.
Shop around, do your home work and take your time. Good luck.

I test drove the 2009 Pilot recently , the handling seemed excellent for a vehicle of this size and weight , however the brakes seem average , just as stated in the edmunds review , the dealer that i went to offered to sell the Touring with RES for 37K
and the EXL model for 33K.
Which i think is steep for a honda pilot , when the 2008 MDX ( tech and ent ) can be had for just 38K ( just 1K more )
I test drove the MDX and its handling and braking were much much better than the pilot , also the MDX uses more premium materials internally and SH-AWD is better than the VTm-4 based Pilot.
So at this time , i am leaning more towards the MDX , Honda needs to reduce the price a lot in these times to make the Pilot more attractive.
However if someone needs a usable third row seat , the Pilot is the best option since the leg room is much better and it also has AC vents

There is ALWAYS room to negotiate. The dealers set their prices, there is no Master Honda Price. If, however, you go to a mulitple dealers and all the quotes fall within a certain range, that should tell you what the market bears. At this moment. Time is your friend if you can wait it out for more/other incentives to come back. But each dealer has a different situation; inventory, etc. Find the deal and the dealer YOU are happy with. Good luck.
  • junobearjunobear Member Posts: 22
Standard means: a three month trial. After that, you pay for it if you still want it.

Bought that vehicle before 9/02 for $34,500, so good price now would be $36,500.
