Sounds to me all you did was waste not only your time but some salesmans time. If you're not buying for a few months why bother trying to make a dealer "squirm" if you're that far removed from the purchase?
"Tell them you will leave if you feel too pressured."
I would have walked you to the door long before you felt pressure. Too bad for the salesman who's time was wasted on you didn't do more to put the "pressure" on. He probably could have saved an hour or two with you, trying to find someone who was there to help him make a living.
In August/September I saw people getting the Touring 4WD out the door for $34,185 so I dont think I will be happy until I can get in that ballpark...
I think you are right.. I think Honda will eventually provide dealer incentives later this year when sales are really low, which will give some more room to go lower. I am also thinking about a 4WD Touring with RES.
Let's keep each other posted if we find lower quotes....
NO cash back, rebates, dealer cash, etc.!!??
And they even raised the percentages on the finance packages??
I sure dont know what to make of this ... during really BAD economic times...
On 10/7/08 we purchased a 2009 Pilot 4WD with RES for $33K including destination fee. They gave us 0% financing for 4 years on $15K. I put down the remainder of the purchase price. This was in Palo Alto California at Anderson Honda...
They also would have gone down to $32.4K purchase price with but would only finance at 2.9%.
Purchase Location: San Bernadino, CA.
I added the DVD and navigation system from another auto installer. Did not feel it was worth it to pay the extra premium when I there was a potential to save further.
Two of the larger dealers out here, Penske & Autonation, were quoting almost $2,000 over that price, and one dealer went with the line "if something is cheap...".
The dealers still call me after I have informed them that I have already purchased a vehicle.
I did my research on the internet, and the winning dealership quoted me the price on the phone. Some dealers will not match unless you have a written quote.
Hope this helps out other buyers..
My advice is "Buy at the end of the month". A lot of dealers are laying off their salespeople and sadly, that is an opportunity for the buyer.

I cant really tell if its a good deal or not but it fit my budget
$437 per month ( tx inc) x 36months
$1000 down includes:
$68 cap cost reduction
$437 1st month payment
$450 registration fee
$45 doc fee
Total monthly Lease payments = 15,732
Total Payments for Lease = 16,295
Agreed upon value of Vehicle : $30,458
Cap Cost 32,098
Est Res Value 18,291
Adjusted Cap Cost 32,030
The reason I ask is because, i usually haggle alot to aggressively get to where I want to be with monthly payments when I lease but this time around I didnt have the energy to go thru the weeks of haggling, debating, shopping it around so I just basically told the rep, this is what I can pay and if you cant do it, then its not in my budget to get a 2nd car....so im wondering if that actually worked out for me better than the weeks of haggling in the past
I am not sure if you did or not, but it is helpful to go to consumer reports and pay $15 for all the dealer costs (invoice, holdback, incentives, etc..) for the vehicle you are interested in buying. This gives you a baseline to negotiate with the saleperson. It also gives you piece of mind that you did not overpay.
My math is probably fuzzy, but I figure I'm paying $333X36+$1,405+$18,250=$31,643 for the car (if I decide to buy it) (and that includes 36 months of financing on the lease term).
I leveraged Boch and Herb Chambers.
as i started my quest (not Nissan Quest
1. does $600 Bank fees and $299 Doc fees make any sense to you?
2. can one hustle and negotiate these fees down?
3: what are the standard fees that we can expect to pay without being fooled?
In this economy banks would love getting a high tier customer to leas him a car (Example: huge lines of home equity loans to qualifying customers from Citi and other lenders has no closing fees whatsoever). So unless its a dealers thing, i cant seem to accept that a Honda would require such huge fees to finance a loan of 17K.
Any input?

Expenses like registration, tags, title, and other state fees. Determine the fees your state charges before you go shopping. Call the Department of Motor Vehicles to determine the cost of registering a new car, and getting the tags if necessary. It may be cheaper to transfer the tag from your old car to the new one. Once you know all documentation fees, determine if the dealer is padding the charge. Have the salesman give a breakdown of every fee in writing. on www.carbuyingtips.com car buying tips. as for the "bank fee" that sounds suspicious. i could be wrong but it just sounds like a scam. how about you get a loan yourself. ask if the bank charges for fees. if they dont i would run not walk away...
seriously tho we went in and we were offered 1.9 which is the rate honda is charging.
GL!
But if you cannot wait, you are buying under invoice and this is a good deal. Just watch for abnormally high doc fees.
Quoted $ 35,298.00 plus dealer doc of 55.00....and of course tax, license. Out the door price of 38,598.00...what do you think ?
A technical question. Was thinking about getting the running boards but the Honda web site shows them a accessory and KBB dont show them available at all. Anyone know what the scoop is ? I am thinking about asking them to "throw" those in and we have a deal. I think they showed the cost at just over $600.00
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also most, dealers charge the doc fee of $299. The fees come on TOP of the regular DMV (registration and title) fees. They wouldn't argue about it either.
Also is it customary to factor in Destination fees of $670 into the negotiated selling price of the vehicle for lease? Doesn't it get added to the MSRP?
please share :confuse:
All Honda Finance leases have an acquisition fee of $595. This goes to the bank, not the dealer. This doesn't mean that the dealer isn't given a fee for writing the lease, but it doesn't come directly out of your funds. That $595 goes to Honda Finance, regardless of what you were told by them.
Doc fees? Extra profit... pure and simple.
Adding destination, after the price quote? Just a way to make the price paid seem to be less... A ruse..

Selling Price: $30,163 (well below invoice)
Residual: $18,291 (at 51%)
MSRP: $35,865 (note that the destination of $670 is already included here)
Term: 36 months
Now the dealer starts throwing all the fees in. Of course I can have a choice of paying these upfront or roll into my Selling Price to come up with new, higher lease pmt and $0 down.
Registration (NY): $133 (standard fee, cant argue about)
Bank: $595 (seems cant get away from it either)
Destination $670 (completely weird and outrageous)
Doc: $199 ( advertised as the lowest doc fees in Northeast - yeah right )
Total Fees: $1,597 without the 1st month payment.
New selling price: $31,760
the lease on that number is: $429/month before tax
I think if they could eliminate the Destination and Doc fees it would make a very attractive lease at $404 before tax.
any thoughts?
Bank/acquisition fee? Yeah.. everyone gets that one..
Doc fee? More "hidden" profit..
But, all that stated, you have to focus on the total price.
It looks like the actual price of the car is just over $32,000...(selling + destination + doc). Is that a good price for a Pilot with an MSRP of $35,865? Beats me.. check back to see what everyone else has paid. If you can't get anyone lower, then you'll know you are near the bottom..
The lease program is decent.... If you can get $429/mo.+tax, with only the first payment down, that isn't too bad... BUT, lower is always better!
Good luck,

I got: Wheel Locks, Roof Crossbar, Chrome Side Steps, All Season Floor Mats, Cargo Dividers, Cargo Tray, Remote Start, Cargo Net, Cargo Cover Interior, Total Accessories $1,670.25, Installation $299.63.
Subtotal $37,494.88
Honda Care Warrenty 96 / 120K $1,195.00
Undercoating $570.00.
I Know it seems like a lot of stuff by hey 15% off. I got my moneys worth.
Anyway, this was his first offer, and the rep and the sales manager even said things like, "If you have something else in mind, let us know." Yeah, I have something else in mind - a lower price!
They showed me the 1.9% for 36 months, and the 3.9% for 48 or 60 months. What they wouldn't agree on was discounting the vehicle more if we paid cash instead of financing. I would think they would be interested in a $30K+ check, but apparently not...
If I pay cash, do I at least get out of the "bank fee"? Where do I go from here? It seems like they have room to move, based on the first offer, and things they said in our first meeting. I suppose I need to find out how much these fees are going to cost.
The other problem I have is that all the dealers around here want to appraise my trade-in before they discuss offers for the vehicle I'm interested in. I want to focus on one thing at a time, but they refuse to do it that way. I know this is a trick they use to make you think you're getting a better deal than you really are, but how do I combat it? This is very frustrating. If anyone has any pointers or tips on this, I would thank you very much for that.
In fact, you should not have mentioned a trade-in. You reach a deal on the price of the new car and then talk about trade-in and financing.
Good luck!
I guess when I call him back, I'll say let's figure out the price on the Pilot first, and then dicuss the trade-in? Is it too late for that, the cat's already out of the bag? Maybe I need to start from scratch with another salesperson? They probably won't do that. Ah, frustrating.
One time, I even had a salesman tell me that they could offer another $1000 off on a vehicle if I didn't have a trade-in. If I was trading in my vehicle, then I couldn't get that $1000. He even admitted it was a marketing ploy.
Thanks
Any thoughts out there ?

about a month ago, we purchased 2009 EX-L with RES AWD for $33K including destination charge. This was in Palo Alto, Ca. I put $20K down and financed the remainder at 0% financing for 4 years.
Did that price also include taxes and title? I just received a quote for $34500 including taxes, title, processing fee, and destination charge...out the door at this price. I'm in Harrisonburg, VA.
Thanks
Acquisition fee
A charge included in most lease transactions that is either paid up front or is included in the gross capitalized cost.
It may be called a bank fee, an administrative fee, or an assignment fee. This fee usually covers a variety of administrative costs, such as the costs of obtaining a credit report, verifying insurance coverage, checking the accuracy and completeness of the lease documentation, and entering the lease in data processing and accounting systems.
