My dealer here in Miami area let me put $5000.00 on the credit card towards the purchase. 5000 frequent flyer miles! But that was the max they allowed. It's gonna change dealer to dealer, depending on their policy.

Hi, all. Just closed the deal on a 2004 Pilot EX (Cloth) at Reddell Honda in Murfreesboro, TN. Wanted the following accessories installed: Fog Lights, Side Steps, Rear Splash Guards, Cargo Cover, and All-Season Floor Mats. Requested an internet quote from 3 area dealers (Reddell, Crest, and Darrell Waltrip) - Crest quoted 31,0000, or $148 below MSRP. They absolutely refused to budge on the price - even told me that my numbers (most of which came from Edmunds) were completely wrong. When I called them on their numbers game and told them I had a lower quote, they basically insulted me and told me that I should "run for the other deal and enjoy my hail-damaged vehicle".

Waltrip didn't want to play - wouldn't quote online - just kept sending me marketing e-mails.

Reddell's internet price quote was basically cost plus destination charge plus $700 ($1200 MSRP) for the accessories included and installed - $28,200. They were a bit low on my trade (a high-mileage 02 Mazda), but were willing to work the price a bit to get the deal. Very low pressure, honest salesman. Sales manager was great. Finance guy did his spiel on the usual add-ons (ex warranty, paint protect, insurance, etc.) but took no for an answer without pressure. They are doing a dealer trade for my vehicle and should be ready for pickup Monday or Tuesday. Also got 2.9% Honda financing.

Overall, a very positive experience. I'd recommend Reddell to anyone looking for an honest, no BS deal on a Honda. A bit out of my way (50 mile drive one way), but worth the trip.

As for Crest Honda, just say no.

Pick up my Sage Brush Pilot EX w/cloth from Classic Honda in Streetsboro, Ohio. We love this Pilot and have been getting a lot of compliments. Overall the experience was good. The internet sales person was very helpful and pleasant.
I saved $1,750 under MSRP using my AAA discount and acquired a 2.9% rate. AAA saves me on accessories, service and parts. I added chrome steps and rear splash guards. It looks great.
My experience with the finance person left me very disappointed however. He got me for a protection package and the gap insurance. I don't mind the extra warranty. He caught me off guard because I was going to stick to my guns but some how I was blind sided. After a sleepless night. I did some research online and by contact relatives with other suvs. I called to make changes and he tried to give me the run around saying the papers had already been fedexed and couldn't get them back until a few days later.
I think I have 72 hours to make changes and I hope they don't reneg on our other contract features.
Do your research, you can protect you interior with several cans off scotch guard and just wax it by yourself. You can also save on gap insurance, if needed, by going through your own auto insurance agent.
Overall Classic Honda is a nice place to deal with and offer a lot of services.

Drove 4 hours from central pa to pick up my Sandstone Ex-Res from Classic Honda in Streetsboro Oh. Thanks to all for this site else I would never have stumbled on this dealership. Thelma was my sales agent and she is one of the most professional and nice I have ever delt with. Showed up with two kids and a dog all wound up from the drive and they accomidated them well by playing with the kids and keeping them occupied. Best of all it was worth the drive for the color I wanted and price....$30108.78 plus $120.25 for title and documentation fee. Icing on the cake - 2.9% financing. The kids were quiet and absorbed in Disney movies on the way home.

Yes that person was wonderful. Did you have any problems in finance dept. Or did I negotiate that badly? I never dealt with a honda dealer before.
  • caf2461caf2461 Member Posts: 3
You did better than I could ever do in Pa. I did not have a problem with the finance person as it was a very straight forward deal. I wanted the car as quoted with nothing extra. The only thing I was not expecting was a $150 charge for the bank fee on financing. I guess this is standard. I happened to hit them at the right time as they had two of them in this color unsold. They are sold now.

After a month of deliberation, I am finally taking plunge to buy EX-L with RES from Mike Pruitt Honda from Akron, Ohio. I am living in New Jersey and as nsantos and others said, all the dealers in jersey quotes around MSRP. I am not sure whether it is demand vs. supply...If lot more people are buying from out of state, in a long run, sense might return to jersey's dealers.. I am getting it in sandstone color and getting it delivered here.. Anybody has any experience about trade-in at Mike Pruitt Honda.. I am thinking if they give trade-in value of my Ford Windstar, I might go there and pick it up.. Again thank you very much to all wonderful folks on this board.. You all are excellent in making my deal possible..Thank you..
  • goodonegoodone Member Posts: 3
They (Mike Pruitt Honda) don't take the trade-in - they offer me $500 with an average trade-in value $3800 car. Therefore, I have to go to a different dealer.

After comparing Highlander, Explorer and Pilot we decided Pilot EX was the winner. Bought in cloth.

I paid 29,100 + Tax + lic = 31,800 (out of dealership). Not the greatest deal if you compare Ohio, Arizona or LA dealerships (other discussions on the board). But, I am happy. Also, got 2.9% APR. I got Bridgestone tires with it. Can somebody advise if they are ok. I thought EX came with Goodyear tires.

Bought New Pilot EXL RES (actually 2 months ago) at a price 450 above invoice from Atlanta dealer.
Meant to post it as soon as I bought -- but I became busy driving around in my PILOT.
LOVE IT and my son loves the RES too.
Everything is great -- but I wish for a couple more things that I have in my Older Toyota.

A few people have posted over the last few days that they got 2.9% financing. I live in Philadelphia and was ecstatic to qualify for the "best" rate of 3.74% for 60 months, only for people with excellent credit.

So my question is for those of you getting 2.9%, is this for 60 months, and do you know if this is regional promotion, or is this just a "regular" rate?

I've got two weeks until my new EX-L is delivered, and my dealer said that if a better rate is in effect at the date of delivery that we'll get the lower rate.

    Thanks!

It's not Pilot specific but you should try Lease Questions - Ask Here. For prices paid you're here!

My understanding is that it was a Honda offer over the weekend that ended on Monday 3/1.

Just paid $400 over invoice for a Midnight Blue EX-L. The only accessory I added was the running boards (at 20% off list price). Grand total out the door price was $29,317 (including $125 Ohio doc fees and $531 for the running boards). Also got the 2.9% financing for 60 months.

Thanks to the postings on this board, I found out about Mike Pruitt Honda in Akron. After a series of emails with their internet manager, I flew out there this past Saturday morning, spent an hour and a half at the dealership filling out paperwork and then took a leisurely 8-hour drive back to NY. It couldn't have been easier.

I highly recommend Pruitt. Try Airtran for cheap airfares to Akron-Canton airport. I got a one-way internet special for $70 (LaGuardia to Akron-Canton).

    1st phase:
IMHO, the midnight blue will be replaced by something more along the lines of the indigo blue you see on Tahoe/Yukon. There's not enough differentiation currently between the black and the blue colors on the Pilot/MDX.

    2nd phase:
Can anyone tell me recent experiences on what their monthly lease payment is on Pilot EX-L without nav or res?

Sorry for the (very) late reply to the question, but I have not been on the board in months.

I got the extended warranty from Curry Honda in Chicopee, MA. The $980 I paid was for the 7 yr, 75K mi one.

    Friends,

Have been reading the board for a few weeks and was hoping that someone in the Atlanta area could provide feedback on the specific dealers in and around the area that were willing to offer the best price / least hassle buying experience. I'm intent on an EX with leather and possibly RES.

HP123, I see that you got a great deal, could you please share which dealer you worked with?

    Thanks much,
    jeff

Type in Atlanta on the discussion search of this page and you should get some inquiries.

Just picked up my EX-L from Carbone Honda in YORKVILLE, NY 13495. I called 7-8 dealers in Mass & CT, Carbone beat them all. Some as much as $1700. They are located about 4 hours west of Boston. The salesperson was willing to meet half way but since there is a casino (turning-stone.com) in the area I decided to rent a car which is down the street from the dealership. Enjoy!!
  • jeffrjeffr Member Posts: 8
Cameramatt, thanks for the advice... I did search before posting and only found quotes with specific dealers that were almost 6 months old. I was hoping for a little more up to date feedback on specifics of atlanta deals and dealers....

If anyone can help, thanks in advance. HP123, if you're out there and can post your deal details and dealer, I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    jeff

I bought EX/L NAV end of January from Gwinnett Place Honda. Sent query to their internet salesman, he called, I asked for $1900 off MSRP with no other fees - He called back with exactly that offer but included $490 fee and some "already installed" options (Rack crossbars, Rear splash guard) - Got him to change the discount to $2390 to cover fee (accepted options) - no surprises at pick-up time.

I heard some rumors that LA area dealers like to pull bait and switch tactics for internet purchases. Often the cars people agree on over the phone or on the net is not available when they show up for pickup and are instead offered higher price items. Anyone else heard of this?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
This ruse has been around for, well, since people have been selling stuff I guess.

If you have a deal, you should have a contract with a VIN on it somewhere that notes the specific car you have purchased and what the price is.

Just purchased up my Silver EXL-RES yesterday. Paid 30,866 included wheel locks and rear splash guards. I had financing secured through COSTCO (3.29) and the finance guy came back with 2.95 for 60 from Chase Manhattan Bank.

Wanted to thank everyone on the message board.

I live in South Florida and went to Rick Case Honda in Ft. Lauderdale supposedly the largest dealer in the area. They had 2 (two) Pilots in stock and refused to budge off sticker price so I left. The other dealers in area weren't much better. Anyone in S. Fla have any luck?

What prices have been paid for the Pilot LX model including tax?
  • james1james1 Member Posts: 3
I live in Austin TX and I drove my new EXL-RES home yesterday. Sage Brush Pearl, baby!!

A lot of people on this thread have mentioned that Austin Honda dealers are really stingy on their prices, so let me relate to you my buying experience..

I took my time deciding what new vehicle to buy. I have been driving a 2002 Explorer for the last two years, and due to my lack of trust in the Explorer now that the warranty has expired (problem with the rear-end, has been replaced by Ford once already and still makes a whining sound at 60-70 mph), I decided to go back to Honda. I had a 2000 Accord before I bought the Explorer and I was missing the Honda quality.

I decided that the Pilot was the best SUV for me, but I knew that Austin was not the place to get it. After gleaning several stategies from this page, I sent an email out to several dealers in the vicinity. This included Austin, Round Rock, Killeen, San Marcos, etc. Based on another poster's experience, I also sent a quote request to Gunn Honda in San Antonio. The email basically said I wanted an EXL-RES in sagebrush or black, and I wanted to pay no more that $500 over invoice.

Almost immediately I got a message back from Gunn Honda, saying that their no-haggle price was $30,250, and they could even deliver it to me in Austin unless I had a trade-in. This was less than I expected to pay, and about $1000 over invoice. So this sounded pretty good to me. Later that day I began receiving emails from all the other dealerships. Most of these emails said that I was crazy to think that I could get it for $500 over invoice, and demand was high, blah blah. So I responded to the salesman at Gunn that the price sounded great and I would be coming down on Saturday.

The next day, Friday, I received another email from Gunn saying that they had lowered the price that morning, and the new price was $28,500! I was shocked that they would actually lower their price after I had already agreed to pay $30,250. And, $28,500 was actually under invoice, which as fas as I know is almost unheard of with Hondas. Apparently they only had one of each color I wanted, and I knew they wouldn't last long at that price.

So Saturday morning I raced down to the dealership, about 90 miles away. I took the Sage Brush Pearl model, and added side steps for another $500 or so. My cash price before TT&L was $29,089. Including TT&L I paid $31,156. The guys down at Gunn Honda were great. I'm very happy with the deal, and it was easily the best car buying experience I've had. Thanks to everyone who posted here, I owe it all to you! If anyone wants more info, just post here and I will gladly email you my salesman's name and contact info.

What do you folks think about $25,273 for a Silver LX with no options? The car is in stock.

All the local dealers are quoting msrp or msrp-100. The kicker here - it's an out of state dealer, I'll need to ship it or fly out and drive it back. I'm leaning toward driving it myself.

There are 2 fees, $100 for documentation and $25 for temp tags.

Of course I'll need to get it inspected, registered and pay state taxes in my home state, but I'd have to do that with a local dealer anyway.

Anyone out there buy their pilot from out of state?

Has anyone put a sunroof on an Pilot EXL? Good idea or baaaaaad one? I was quoted $1495.00 salesman said was a better sunroof and better instal job than Acura's MDX. I was also quoted $28560 + $1495 for sunroof

Best quote I got from 3 dealerships in the Columbus, OH area was 32,060 (before Tax, title) which included the following accessories installed:
    - fog lights
    - auto dim rearview mirror
    - mud flaps
    - crossbars

    Good deal?

I received price quotes from NY dealers at MRP and slighly lower. I sent an email to Mike Puitt honda and their internet manager sent me back a price quote, no haggle, of $400 over invoice. I drove from NY to OH to get my new Sage Brush Pearl Honda and it was the easiest car buying experience ever. They are classy people! No bait and switch, no hassle, just some of the best service and sales you will ever experience. I can't say enough about them!!!

I will be picking up a Pilot EX-RES with 7500 miles on this Saturday. It was driven by the owners wife but never titled. Price with splash guards, nurf bars, 6 CD Changer, cross bars and 7/100k warranty is $31,680. This seems like a good deal since it is about $1000 below sticker with all the accessories and extended warranty. I only purchased the warranty becuase of the lcd tv and other electronics. I can't see that tv lasting 7 years in the harsh environment. I thought it was a fair deal.
  • suv_fansuv_fan Member Posts: 24
So, for this $30K SUV that is apparently still in high demand, what are you paying on a monthly lease? Good or bad credit?

I'm in Columbus, Ohio, and wonder if I can afford a $30k car. Lease estimators state $500/mo.

Thanks :) I really love these boards.
  • habitat1habitat1 Member Posts: 4,282
I don't mean to burst your bubble, but if there is still time, I'd suggest rethinking your deal.

$1,000 below sticker for a used EX-Res with the mentioned accessories and 7/100 warranty doesn't sound like a good deal to me at all. Not sure where you are at, but there are plenty of examples of $400-$700 over invoice deals out there for a brand new vehicle. The 7/100 warranty on a Pilot shouldn't be more than about $1,000, as I was just offered that deal by the official "Hondacares" for my 2002 S2000. DVD or not, I'm not sure I'd even pay that amount on a Pilot, since they appear to be as dependable as it gets.

I admit that I may be a bit biased against a "never titled" vehicle with 7,500 miles. The chances of my buying an S2000 with 7,500 miles at any price was exactly 0. But even with the Pilot, I'd still rather know that I broke the car in properly and take a spanking new one. If you were saving more like 10-15% vs. brand new, that would be a different story. But it appears that you are actually paying about the same or more than I could get a brand new one with about 7.5 miles on the odometer, rather than 7.5K miles. Great deal for the dealer and his wife, not you. Just my opinion, for what it's worth.
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,754
i'm not sure i'm getting the whole picture, so i'll reserve my opinion. When you mention the LCD, are you talking about just the RES screen, or does this have a DVD entertainment unit as well?

but, so far, we've got an EXL RES with a sticker of $33,360
    6-CD ~$300 + install
    sidesteps ~$400 + install
    roofrails ~$125 + install
    warranty ~$1,000

So my guesstimation puts you in the ballpark of getting about $3750 off total sticker (i figured $250 total labor). So it really is a bit more than 10% off the new price.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

  • habitat1habitat1 Member Posts: 4,282
Edmund's lists the EXL RES at MSRP $32,860, invoice = $29,609. I've been offered the vehicle at $30,250 ($640 over invoice - look above for other quotes of $400 over invoice). So by my calculations, JC is paying $1,430 MORE for a used vehicle with a few extra ad ons and an extended warranty, but also 7,500 miles on the odometer.

I don't consider the options, with the exception of maybe the CD changer, worth much. And, having owned a 1995 Maxima SE for 151k miles that didn't need a single "repair" until 8 years and 120k miles, I wouldn't spend $1,000 on a 7year/100k warranty either.

If the price were 10%-15% off the new car actual price (not MSRP), then it would be in the $26k-27.5k range and that would be worth considering. Maybe even $28k. But more than a new one?? Doesn't sound good to me.
  • terumi1terumi1 Member Posts: 130
My recommendation is that this is not a good deal. I bought my ex-l 2004 with navi 30.4k plus tax, title. That price is $340.00 over invoice, if I remember correctly.
  • sungchangsungchang Member Posts: 39
I agree with others that this does not sound like a good deal. I paid slightly bit more than terumi1 on a 2004 EXL-Navi (Navi costs $500 more than EXL-RES) even at a tough Honda market for negotiations (Silicon Valley).
  • mike5mike5 Member Posts: 1
What is an EXL RES? I see EXL, EXL Nav and EXl Entertainment. So what is the RES?
