I live in SoCal area too. My best bet was 31,158 including destination. Where did you buy yours. Thanks.

Norm Reeves. That is a pretty awesome price. Almost a $1000 below invoice? You sure that wasn't for a MY05?
  • ooglyoogly Member Posts: 5
    I paid 27800 plus TTL.

    Happy holidays to all.

I apologize, the quote was 32,158 and I still do not have the car. Whey could not find any white ones of that trim. The closest they were able to locate was in Oakland – a bit too far.

I really didn't find much difference between the 05 and 06 EXL AWD. 06 seems to have stability control and traction control which 05 doesn't have. Other than that, I didn't find any difference. Anybody?
  • ooglyoogly Member Posts: 5
The 05 EXL AWD does have stability control and traction control, the only safety feature that it doesnt have compared to the 06's are the side curtain airbags. They redesigned the front part of the car to make it look like a ridgeline and put on sidemarker lights, and they changed the readout panel behind the stearing wheel and I think they also have the cruise control ON/OFF on the stearing wheel in the 2006 models. And the 2006 comes with foglights.

The cruise control button is still in the same place, it's not on the steering wheel. I just bought an '06.

I live in Illinois where you have to pay tax on the whole negotiated price of the vehicle when you lease as opposed to tax on just the monthly payment e.g. the depreciation amount. I didn't realize this until I went into the showroom. Furthermore if I buy the car at the end of the lease I have to pay tax again on the whole residual amount. This seems crazy, is this correct? I believe them as I doubt they would lie to me about a tax issue. I negotiated a great buy price of $29,700 on a pilot 4wd EXL with a MSRP of $33,595. My question is about Smart buy. He started to tell me about using the Smart buy option instead. I didn't get the numbers as I ran out of time and had to leave but he explained it to me as they use a similar residual amount and that becomes a balloon payment at the end of 36 months similar to the residual. They use a slightly higher money factor of .00185 as opposed to .00115 for the lease but there is no $595 lease acquisition fee with the smart buy so I consider that a wash. It seems like the payment is going to be similar. All the benefits of leasing, e.g. lower initial payments, walking away from the car at the end if I wish, plus all the benefits of buying e.g getting out easier in the middle of the term, only paying tax once if I buy. It doesn't seem to make sense to lease in Illinois if you have to pay tax on the whole vehicle and again later on the residual. Does anyone have experience with smart buy that they can share. What are any downsides of doing this?

Thanks for any help you can provide, this forum rocks!!!

    hi, folks,

I'm researching to buy 2006 pilot in Silicon Valley Bay area, CA.

    1. Any recommendation for good dealer?
    2. I got quote of 2006 Pilot EX-L, 2WD at 29500$ (destination charge is included.)
Is it good deal in bay area?

    please help me!. thanks.

Please tell me what dealer gave you such a nice deal.
  • jensadjensad Member Posts: 388
    Hi ksyim

I purchased a 2006 ex-l WITH nav, 4 wd, for $32257 which I think is about $ 1200 over their holdback payments. The listed price was about $ 35700.

I would suggest that a 2 wd would be a little more than what you were offerred. I think you got a pretty fair offer. From my buying experiences with Hondas, the range of what they work with is about 10- 13 % below sticker.

Berkeley Honda gave me my price. From my shopping experience, maybe Dublin, Livermore, and Fremont Honda might be also competitive.

Good luck to you. I hope others here could share with you their purchasing experiences.

Dealer is Staten Island Honda. Its a quote at this point, i will update the group if i can make a deal at this price point. Again i am in the market for a 2006 Honda Pilot EXL 4WD. And they did confirm the same. They did not have a color i liked on the lot, so i am waiting for a call from them when the right color arrives. The deal is contingent upon dealer finance, though.

We just bought the 06 EXL and I think a feature new to the 06 (I'm not sure) is that the 3rd row seats have variable positioning (maybe the 2nd row, also). There is a compass on the rearview mirror which was not in the 05. I'm not sure if heated mirrors came standard in the 05 but they do in the 06 exl. Also, it has the sunglass holder on the ceiling which has a child viewing mirror so you can see the back rows. Again, not sure if that is featured in the 05. Side curtain airbags and XM radio on the EXL versions instead of tape deck. The seats are more comfortable, as well. It's a little "meaner" looking according to my friend, a feature I quite like.

We got one tonight for $30,678 including Delivery. Easiest time we've had at a dealer. Got the price before we went in, they found the one we wanted, no questions once we started. Still took 2 hours - too long as far as I'm concerned - but very easy, no haggling, no fighting, no questions. Price was set before we left home. Would certainly suggest using dealer's internet sales people to establish your price/deal prior to going in.

    Good luck.

I called Berlin City yesterday and they gave the same deal to me over the phone.

I'm somewhat leery buying a new car sight unseen... but the price is a great tool to use with other dealers.

Autofair Honda in Manchester won't go any lower than $30,459... even after saying I'd be willing to do the autodimming mirror and running boards (dealer installed accessories are very profitable...) if they'd match the $29,799 price.

They say they don't "compete" with Berlin city... that's funny... they are in this case!

I'll update soon as we want to use end of the month pressure to get the best deal (and, we want the truck now as we just had our first child in late October... it's unbelieveable how much gear is "needed" to move the little bugger around!)

Hello everybody and thanks for all your efforts and help.
I will manage to get Honda Pilot EX-L with Nav at invoice ($30,629) plus destination charge $550. With $1500 total down and 12,000 miles/year, what should be my monthly payment for 36 months lease?
Also what is the monthly payments for EX-L without Nav bought at invoice ($28,652) plus destination charge with same terms as above?
  • cutter3cutter3 Member Posts: 12
We took delivery of our new EXL 4WD - no issues - I had bought a Cherokee from them 8 years ago and again no issue - understand the concern though - they give a 3 day return policy.

The website still shows the 29699$ price.

I would avoid the running boards - more to collect and clean - the truck is not that high really.

Congrats on the little one - kids do not change life - they end it...as you know it - for the better. :o)

    Tedhoe,

I am just beginning my research into Pilots, and it sounds like you got a good deal!

Some questions: RES-do you mean the entertainment system?

What dealership did you get this deal? I want the same thing, the EX-L, but with navigational system. According to Edmunds, you got it slightly over invoice. Where there any other charges, etc., I should know about?

    Thanks from a fellow Georgian!

Hi All - Thanks to everyone for sharing your information.

I am looking in MA at leasing either an EX or an EXL (without DVD or NAV).

Here are two proposals that I have gotten:

    EX
    MSRP - $31,295
    Quoted price - $27,491

    EXL
    MSRP - $33,595
    Quoted price - $29,489

    Questions:
    1) I would like people's thoughts about these numbers. I think they look pretty good, but would love some input.

    2) What are people's thoughts about deals that might be coming out before the end of the year? I believe that some/all dealers have quotas to fill by the end of the year. Has anyone heard any chatter about good deals/incentives that may be offered? I would hate to buy or enter into a lease tomorrow (last day of Nov.) and then hear about a great deal to kick off December.

    Thanks, again, for any insight.

Just got an '06 EX-L Pilot from Bill Page in Falls Church. Very Impressed! I have been looking at the pilot for over a year, and finally made the jump. I had shopped at Rosenthal and Landmark, but was never happy with the sales personnel and managers. Staff at Bill Page was great, and i think i got a great deal - both on the pilot and my trade.

My local dealership has the MSRP listed on the car window, then it has another sticker with markups....one of them is called a "regional markup" $1999! What the heck is this?? Because I live in VA, they think they can charge me more???

    Hello,

You are looking for a 4X4, right? If so, I think those prices are pretty good, especially for the EX (which is the version I am looking at). Does it include destination or any other fees. I am waiting until December.
  • colleradcollerad Member Posts: 6
Yes - I am looking at the AWD.
According to the person I have been talking to, those numbers include all fees, though I would not be surprised to find out that they include "all fees" except a whole bunch that he forgot to mention... We shall see as I am going to talk to him first thing tomorrow.
I am still uncertain as to whether I should wait until December or not. Will have to do some research and see if I can find any whispers of year-end deals.
  • tinatinatinatina Member Posts: 388
    Hello,

Thanks for the information. I had "targeted" $27,500 as the price for the 2006 EX AWD here in SF Bay Area since with holdover, that's about $300 above invoice (assuming no further incentives). I have not emailed anyone lately, since I decided to wait until December. However, I have noticed in my area that three dealerships had between 20 to 42 Pilots on the lots. I wonder if sales have slowed.

the best price i can get for a pilot in SF is about $35,000 OTD. Is this a good deal?

    thanks
  • uligianuligian Member Posts: 8
I just took delivery of a 2005 EX-L with RES for $28,500 (this included destination, doc fee but didn't include tax, title and license).

This forum certainly helped arm me with the info to make a good deal. I found a dealer with more than 5 2005's in stock and was able to drive him down to almost $2k under invoice by playing him against another dealer.

I couldn't justify paying 9% ($2,500) more for the 2006 based on the differences I saw.
  • jensadjensad Member Posts: 388
    Dear gtam623

JMO, no this is a SF price. We got a exl with nav for
    about $32257.

However if you are stuck on SF Honda dealer(s) you still should be able to get that price down. It seems to be their "sticker" price.

And there is a reason why they call it a "sticker" price. The only one stuck is the buyer.

Good luck to all and stay safe.

I'm running a few financial scenarios... wondering if anyone has an idea (can be an estimate if no "real" number exists) of what an 06 pilot ex-L AWD will be worth in 6 years when it's paid in full?

I'm thinking about leasing for the first 36, and then buying it and paying it off in another 36 vs. financing for 72 months.

I have other financial instruments I'd rather put the $$ towards right now (401K, College funds).

I can hack the much higher payment later.

    Thanks!

    :)

Berlin City Honda way up there in the tip of New Hampshire, near Mt. Washington got me:

06 Pilot EX-L AWD Sage Pearl

    Sticker: $33,595
    OTD: $29,799!

They also are paying my last month's payment on my existing Accord lease ($385) and waived the delivery fee ($125) to get the deal done today!

Yes, it does pay to shop at the end of the month.

It will be here tomorrow... yipee!

Do you know what the residual value is? That's the value that the banks will guarantee the car is worth at the end of the lease term. They want to be able to sell the vehicle when they get it back after lease term.

So, after the lease is up, if you choose to purchase the car, you'll be paying the residual value that was established. That's what the car should be worth after three years. If you finance the residual value, you'll need to account for the additional interest you'll be paying.

After 6 years, nobody knows exactly what the car will be worth but you could run the numbers down a curve at a certain percentage to get an idea. Say 15% depreciation per year. That's the number you need to find....the average depreciation number. $16,800 depreciates down to say $10,300 after 3 yrs.
  • kak5kak5 Member Posts: 2
    Did you buy or lease?
    Any money down?

I'm looking at the EX-L w/Leather...trying to see if I can get below invoice.
