I live in NOVA and are going to go with the 2wd. I think I am going to buy at Fairfax (or at least give them the last shot) after doing all the research.
You may include the dealership name, city and state in your post. Please do not post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addresses, or other contact information.
jlaabs, My qoute from Tempe Honda was $300 above invoice and it's pretty much same for all the valley Honda dealers. Did you have to do a little haggling for your price. A couple of dealers I talked to were pretty firm on their prices and weren't willing to work on the pricing. Thanks.
Went to Colma. I did all my research here in basically a day and thats all I needed. Went down to the dealership met the contact and got a decent offer and purchased it. Being polite and friendly helped a lot.
Jacpot-First quote via the internet was for $100 below invoice. I was pleasantly surprised as I had expected them to start out around $300 higher. My target price was invoice so I was happy with the quote. Honda Cars of Mesa was also slightly below invoice on their internet qoute. Maybe the Pilots with NAVI are more in demand so they are less inclined to deal. One of the things I noticed on the forum here was that some people reported getting initial quotes of several hundred above invoice with the dealer being reluctant to go lower. They would then be patient, stop negotiating, and after about 2 weeks or so a dealer would initiate contact again with a lower price-usually right around or a little above invoice. Hope you can get one for a price you feel good about-Good Luck!
I am also in Nova and in the market for a 2WD. I found a couple of dealers that are willing to go for 500 under invoice. How much did you get at fairfax honda?
Do full-sized bikes fit comfortably inside a Pilot ? I have a friend with a Odyessy - he can fit 4 people + 4 bikes inside confortably. But we would prefer a Pilot. If I configure it so the second & third row are folded down 60% (ie 2 people in front, 1 kid in second row, 1 kid in third row) : does that create enough room to fit 4 bikes inside the Pilot (3 full sized, 1 kid sized) ?
I know I could always get a bike rack, but then I have to buy the hitch & towing package, so I was wondering if somebody on the board has tried the above configuration...
Jimzops. Another data point to tell your best friend. I got a price quote in Chicago for a 2006 EXL with RES of $31,179. So, I'm not sure how immaculate his deal was...
Last weekend Fairfax Honda in VA sent me an email that all Pilots were at invoice, but I wasn't ready to buy. I'm looking for an 06 EX-L with NAV. They told me last weekend it was for that weekend only (of course).
Anyway, at this point, where should I start negotiations?
I am on the market for 2006 Pilot EX-L 4WD w/Navi in Central NJ and I am getting Internet quotes from $31,200 through $32,257 (destination included). I have e-mailed quote request to about a dozen of dealerships and then played them one against another. I hope they will honor their quotes when I show up in person.
Where in PA did you get your Pilot? I want to buy same car configuration before year end...willing to drive a bit for good deal. Best price in Northern NJ I got so far was 30,750 to dest, tax , and tags.....thanks...
Thanks to all of you who have posted info on this forum, we got a great deal on our Nighthawk Black Pearl Pilot. Beach Honda, in North Miami Beach, Florida, has new management who are trying to get their allocation for next year up. They appear willing to really deal right now. I emailed their Internet Manager who almost immediately called with a quote of $1250 below invoice. The sales price for a 2WD, EX-L with NAV was $29,378. He didn't have a black one on the lot but got it within hours of me going to the dealership and signing a lease application. Adding the $550 destination fee plus a $699 Doc Fee, plus 6% sales tax of $1837,68, $250 DMV fee and a $6.50 State Fee brought the Out-the-Door price to $32,722.17. The Doc Fee was way high, but takes the place for this dealership of the all-profit dealer prep fee, and with the low price was well worth it. The DMV fee will actually be lower since we had a tag on our previous car that is being transferred. He threw in wheel locks and agreed to add the accessories I wanted at dealer cost plus labor. That included running boards, day/night mirror, rear splash guards and roof rack cross beams. The parts came to $884 and the labor was $400, plus tax. Everyone there was a pleasure to deal with, and they want to resurrect a dealership that's a little off the beaten track and had apparently been poorly managed before. I don't know that you'll get that kind of price, but they're definitely worth contacting. By the way, I leased through Honda for 36 months/12,000 miles per year. The MSRP was $34,595, the 55% (It's 57%without NAV) residual was $19,027, the money factor was .00048. With no money down the payments are $388 per month. Never having leased before, I hope I didn't screw up. Again, thanks for all the information that helped so much.
We tried to buy a Honda Pilot EXL at Hinderer Honda in Heath, OH. The only thing they would give us is the payment amount - they would not disclose the final cost of the Pilot, the amount of our trade, or the interest rate. The said we didn't need this information, we only needed to know the amount of the payment. They actually thought we would buy the Pilot not knowing the actual cost! Obviously, we were not as stupid as they thought we were and we did NOT buy one there. It doesn't end there though...when we told them we were not interested, the refused to give us our car keys back! We demanded our keys back 4 times and didn't get them back until we started raising our voices and causing a scene. Stay away from John Hinderer Honda!!
cgfan and andyrus, according to the Honda website, the special financing on the Pilot is as follows:
2005/2006 Pilot Special AHFC A.P.R. Financing 2.9% APR for 36 months, 3.9% APR for 48 months and 4.9% APR for 60 months.Terms & Conditions. It goes through 1/3/06.
I just got a price for a 2006 Pilot EX-L with NAvi 2WD. for $30,158. $32,736.00 OTD. 4 dealerships were willing to give the same price give or take $10 bucks. I'm in Bay area so, Livermore, Serramonte, Oakland and Santa Rosa we're the ones.I had e-mailed 20 dealerships total and a few called me or e-mailed back and said take the deal we can't match or beat it. Any one know how I can maybe get them to throw in a day/night mirror or sidesteps???
Thank you Engelvet for the info on Beach Honda, in Northern Miami. I spoke to the Internet sales manager who offered to beat my best offer up to date for a 06 Pilot 4WD EXL with the Navi and agreed to sell the vehicle for 30,857.00 plus TTL. Since they don't have the color I want, amazon green, they will order this car and should be available here by mid Feb 06. I'll be posting a 500 dollar deposit this week and will keep you all posted if there are any surprises. :shades:
I would like to thank everybody for you input, which helped me to purchase sage brush 2006 Pilot EX-L 4WD w/Navi for $31,200 (destination included) + tax/title/doc fees at Planet Honda in Union, NJ. While shopping I've got following Internet offers (destination included):
$31,300 - DCH Academy Honda, Old Bridge, NJ $31,400 - Route 22 Honda, Hillside, NJ $31,450 - Honda of Staten Island, State Island, NY $31,534 - Clinton Honda, Clinton, NJ $31,857 - David Michael Honda Of Freehold, Freehold, NJ $32,258 - Open Road Honda, Edison, NJ
I was also able to get 2.9% for 36 month financing from Honda.
Once again, thanks for your help and keep helping others.
How many miles are you allowed per year? Did you get any extra equipment? Is the $286 before taxes and any other fees? At what dealership did you find this deal and with what salesperson? Thanks.
I just signed a contract this afternoon for a 2006 Pilot EX-L. I put downpayment using my credit card. I will be able to get the car tomorrow.
When I got home, I got another call from another dealership and they are offering me a $500 lower price. The second dealer also told me that as long as I haven't got the car, I can always change my mind and cancel the original contract.
My question is that can still ask the first dealer to match the price after I signed the contract? If he won't, do I have the right to cancel the contract and go with the second dealership?
congrats andyrus on the price! is it safe to assume an exl-awd w/res can be had for $500(or more) below invoice($31,168)? is a request of $30,500 via email reasonable or will i get laughed out of the room? thanks
That may also be why they have 80 pilots on the lot there in St Louis. 44 2005s and 36 2006s. That is a lot of inventory. Perhaps if they went a little below invoice they might be able to move some of them.
I have sent e-mail requests to a dozen dealerships and then I played one against another. I did not say what I am willing to pay. In my case I paid $31,200, which is more than $1k under invoice $32,257 (with destination) and almost $4.6k under MSRP of $35,795. Use my numbers as a guideline, however, keep in mind that next month prices and financing rates may change.
Did they give you quotes over the phone then? I just signed for 32,800 today for a EXL w/navi at Lehigh Valley Honda. I was told they couldnt deal any lower, but I see that is bs. Tomorrow I plan on calling the places you got those quotes from. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
I did not talk to anyone on the phone. I did not provide my phone # to any dealer. Just e-mails. Within 2-3 day I had few nice offers. Only after I've received the best quote and confirmation that the dealer has the color I like, I called to schedule an appointment to pick up the car. Additionally, when you have the e-mail quote, you have something in writing (in case your salesman is not around). I would not rely on phone calls too much.
Did you try Clinton Honda in Clinton, NJ? Their initial quote was $30,984 + $550 destination. Or see my earlier posting with a list of dealerships and their Internet quotes.
Now may not be the best time to buy if you’re looking for an ’06 Pilot AWD w/ Navi in California. I anticipated Honda’s special financing and year end specials, and sold my car. I didn’t anticipate not being able to find the vehicle I wanted. Not only did the dealerships not have the color I wanted, the ones offering the best pricing didn’t even have any AWD’s that they could trade. When I did find a dealership with the right vehicle, they wanted close to MSRP and wouldn’t negotiate. I finally went with carsdirect.com, and they were able to locate the one I wanted, although I had to drive 400 miles to get it. And even though I paid $1100 over invoice, I did get the 2.9% financing (good until Jan 3rd), and there were $1050 dealer add-ons that I didn’t (and wouldn’t) pay for.
andyrus, i followed your advice and e-mailed several dealerships. best price so far is 31,900 for an 06 exl awd w/res. after hearing from everyone, would you suggest i email back telling them "here's my bottom line $xxxxx" or should i call them instead? you should receive a commission! thanks
Patience! Do not rush with calling. Now you send to all others e-mail: "I have an offer from your competitor for (your exact Pilot configuration) - $31,800 (or $31,750 - keep slightly below you best offer but still realistic). Can you do better?”: Just make sure your are getting quotes WITH destination charge of $550. You will see, some dealers will try to beat your best offer by $100-200. Drop all those who cannot compete.
Hi. This is my first SUV, sounds like I got a good deal Pilot LX 2WD, base model, $24040, out door price, $26400, Could someone give an opinion please?
looks like a good deal for 2WD LX. It is approx $800 below invoice. I was looking for LX 2WD sometime back(around 15th december) and the best quote I got was for $24233 in bay area.
thanks for the advice, this is actually the first quote I get and I have not even test driven it, I was going to compare HL and Pilot, but I decided to buy this one, the offer ends by 31/Dec
I'm currently requesting quotes for 2006 2WD LX from multiple Bay Area dealership via internet. Was wondering as I receive quotes, do they usually include desintation fee? or will I have to respond to each quote inquiring this?
This is a good deal. I just bought my 2wd LX for 26,657 out the door ($24,343). While I was waiting for the salesman to get some paperwork, I noticed in his price book which was set off to the side that the dealer's net cost for this vehicle was $24,033. So it sounds like you getting a quote for $7 over what a dealer's net cost was is actually an excellent deal.
I just bought my 2006 pilot EX 2WD in bay area. Thanks to everybody for this wonderful forum. I paid $25850(including destination) plus sales Tax, DMV and tire fees. I did not buy any extra options or extended warranty.
andyrus, no more offers from other dealers, however one dealer(hillside honda) wrote back advertising $30,718 for an awd exl-res. his original offer was 31,918 for an 06. there was no mention whether or not they were talking 05 or 06(this was a mailing list advertisement, not a personal note from the manager). the other kicker is destination charges were not inlcuded. those charges are about $550 or so, right? anyway, sale ends 12/31, but i'll be patient and play the game.
E-mail your contact at Hillside and ask. Be very specific about your desired Pilot configuration. Most likely it is 2006 and you should add $550. Keep the e-mail with $30,718 offer because it is dealer’s quote and you can always ask for this price. Ask for their inventory and meanwhile get your finance and insurance in order. I would not recommend waiting till last moment, unless you can wait for another month-end.
Are you in NJ? If yes, try Planet Honda, Union NJ via Internet. I’ve got the best offer from them. Second best was DCH Academy Honda.
There is no sale per se. However, some dealers are more than others eager to meet their quotas. Special financing rates end 1/3/06. Good luck.

a bit for good deal. Best price in Northern NJ I got so far
was 30,750 to dest, tax , and tags.....thanks...
Is there any Honda financing going on? I received an email that says 2.9% APR. Is the financing supported by specific dealer or by Honda in general?
2005/2006 Pilot Special AHFC A.P.R. Financing
2.9% APR for 36 months, 3.9% APR for 48 months and 4.9% APR for 60 months.Terms & Conditions. It goes through 1/3/06.

Could you tell us which dealership/city did you use? That will be a great help.

You will have to ask the dealer if the destination charge is included in his/her quote. Some do include, some don't. Assume the worst.
Good luck.
