Can anybody recommend for or against Honda dealers in San Antonio, Texas?
  • roxonroxon Member Posts: 16
Got it for invoice. They also offer a free lifetime warrentee with auto4life...the only dealship in the area to offer that. Main reason i went back was because they just really seamed like good people - rather then sales men.

I ended up leasing... even taking into account the acquisition fee, I'm slightly ahead of a straight purchase on 72 month financing because of the very low money factor on the first 36 months (.00090).

Basically, I have a risk-free "out" to buying the Pilot at 36 months... and I can put the difference between buying and leasing for the first 36 months into other investments (maxing 401K and college fund savings) that are much more valuable to me than, say, buying the car on a 60 month loan and the resultant higher payment (but lower interest...).

I put no money down on the lease, capitalized the acquisition cost, paid 1st and doc fees... came out to $361/month for 36 months/$15K. That's a few bucks less than my Accord EX-V6 lease I'm at the end of....

I feel like I got a great deal because of this site... I would have never called Berlin City (they are practically in Canada..) and thus would have paid almost $800 more for my Pilot.

Thanks Edmunds and everyone who posts here!

    Petey

Anybody out negotiating on a Pilot these days in the Seattle area? I'm about to head out and test the waters for a 2006 EX AWD. My previous experience with Honda buying in the Puget Sound is that dealers here are a lot more firm than elsewhere, but if anybody has any recent experiences, I'd sure like to hear them.

yes, I do know the residual value. It's residual at 36M/15K is 57% of MSRP. Couldn't run the finance years 4-6 scenario without it.

I was just curious as to the value of the vehicle at the end of a 6 year scenario... but since the Pilot has not been out for six years yet its anyone's guess. Blue book does have values for vehicles that old of other makes/types. I wanted the value to see what my "investment" in buying the car would net out to vs. leasing for 6 years and investing the difference in other financial instruments.

What's the phrase... rent things that depreciate and buy things that appreciate?

Unfortunately I don't have a clue on the depreciation # and if it's straight line after, say, 4 years or if it accelerates the older the vehicle gets (which would be my guess...).

I guess the biggest assumption in the lease/finance vs. straight finance scenarios is what the prevailing interest rates will be in three years.... hopefully they will stay somewhat stable (<+2%).

I guess will see in December of 2008 whether I want to continue owning the pilot or hand it back in... but I tell you what... it is a sweet little truck!

Ah... new car smell. Gotta love it.

    :)

I got it at Jacob's Twin Honda in Chicago. They weren't the best people to work with, but are well known to have the best price in town.
  • uligianuligian Member Posts: 8
I don't know what the value of the DIOs are. But I got a quote in Chicago on a 2006 EXL AWD with RES of $31,179 including destination charge. That was before any back and forth negotiating. I just wanted to see what the difference was between a 2005 and 2006 (it ended up being $2,500 which pushed me to the 2005)

How much is everyone paying for the 2006 EX-L with leather and rear entertainment center. Edmunts says MSPR around 35k
with typical TMV purcahes around 33K.
    Reasonable prices????

Thanks for the feedback. I live in Northwest NJ, I've shopped the numbers to a four dealers in the area, and this is the best I have got them to... so I guess it's a good price. I'm hoping honda brings back the 2.9/3.9/4.9 financing deal that just ended. Then I'll take the plunge!!

I really want the EX w/ Navigation Package, but do not want leather interior. Is this package offered??
  • jstephens1jstephens1 Member Posts: 38
Unfortunately, Nav is only available with EX-L
  • mvandermvander Member Posts: 1
Carsdirect has a good price that they will deliver on. I looked at a 2006 Honda Pilot 4dr 4x4 Sport Utility EX-L
and the list is ""$33,595MSRP Price" and ""Invoice Price $30,280 and their target price of ""Target Price: $31,080".
It is zip code dependant re: price. Anyone use this service to buy a vehicle?

    Thanks

    Mike
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
CD prices are zip-code dependent because they negotiate with local dealers at the local market price. They'll usually get the target price for you.

But... their price is usually about at the level you can get with any number of Costco or credit union deals, and not generally as good as you can do on your own.

I am planning in purchasing within the next couple of months and I was looking for deals people have received from San Antonio area dealers. Please advise.

I agree Petey that leasing is the way to go for me as well.
I want to know this, they are advertising now for the 06 pilot 2wd/EX for $289 mom for 42 mo. MSRP 30,095. Net cap cost (what is this? the invoice price??) 28,085 plus $318 cap cost reduction. $1500 due at signing. I am sure the 289 is without tax, etc. I am in CA. I would actually like the 4WD model on a lease. Would you suggest to negotiate the selling price as if I am purchasing it, get them down as low as I can on the car I want and then tell them I want the lease? or do they automatically ask you once the negotating is done if you want to buy or lease?? Thanks for any help you can give. Also, I am assuming I want to pay any costs up front? What kind of extra cost can I expect??

I have the following 36 month lease offered to me:

2006 Honda Pilot LX 4wd, splash guards only other addition.

    Sale Price: 26,782
    No money down
    Monthly Payment: 359.92
    Mileage: 15k per year

Please let me know if this is fair deal or what I should expect to pay. Dealer told me the money factor was .001. I tried to calculate it all out but could not tell if this was a good deal. I appreciate any and all help, thanks!!

Can anyone give me any guidance on prices paid for an LX 2WD in the Pasadena - Los Angeles area.

    Thanks for any feedback

I got a 05 EX-L with RES for $28,500. I had an offer of $31,179 for an 06 EX-L with RES before any further negotiation.

So, I think you can push this lower.
  • jimzopsjimzops Member Posts: 39
Really, at what dealer. My auto broker said no way can he get anything close to invoice (31.7K). the best he van do is 700-900 over invoice.
You're quoting 600 below invoice. Hmmm..
Also have a good friend that works at Hueys and he said no 06 Ex
    has gone below invoice...

    Hi Mark,

I bought my 2005 Pilot EXL from Honda of Seattle about 11 weeks ago after e-mailing every dealer from Bellingham to Olympia.

Based on my experience, here's how I would rank the Seattle area dealers for willingness to deal and responsiveness:

    1. Seattle
    2. Renton
    3. Bellevue
    4. Kirkland
    5. Burien
    6. Olympia
    7. Lynnwood
    8. Fife

Not sure I ever heard back from Tacoma. And I avoid Klein Honda in Everett based on a poor experience looking at Civics way back in '93. Yes, I hold a grudge KLEIN!

Bear in mind that all this was for a 05 model so I cannot speak to current market demand or deals to be had for 06's. Hope this helps. With 1,500 miles on the odometer, I sure enjoy driving the Pilot every day.
  • uligianuligian Member Posts: 8
The $31,179 price quote for a 2006 EX-L with RES was from Jacobs Twin Honda in Chicago. This was the initial response without any back and forth.

It's probably worth sending them a request for quote to use as negotiating power with your local dealers.
  • markjennmarkjenn Member Posts: 1,142
db, thanks for the replying with the update. I saw your earlier post and that gave me some hope - my previous experience a couple years ago in the Seattle area looking at high-demand Hondas couldn't even get through the ADM to get to MSRP.

I just closed on a base 06 EX AWD yesterday and my experiences mirror yours. I emailed a dozen or so dealers asking for quotes, with about half replying, and a handful actually giving me numbers which were all over the map, some even quoting a "This week only, bring a copy of this quote to get your special Internet price" over MSRP! Seattle was one of the better ones. I ended up going to Bellevue even though I think I could have done a little better elsewhere - it was just a lot more convenient and I closed the deal and drove away with about two hours total invested. What I actually paid is clouded by a trade, but I think $500 over true invoice (incl destination and with no packs, doc fees, ad fees, etc.) is about where I ended up. Probably could have done slightly better, but I'm pleased.

    Again, thanks.

After doing much research I finally got my HOnda Pilot EX. We decided to do the 42 month lease and I got it for $286/month plus $578 down (included first months payment).. The lowest purchase price I was quoted was about $26,900.
  • wmdfflwmdffl Member Posts: 6
Just got my Pilot last night! 2006 EXL-RES for $30,539 plus ttl. $100 below invoice! All right! In Austin Texas. Glad I waited for the '06. I like the upgrades that the 05 didn't have.
  • texasmommy1texasmommy1 Member Posts: 1
Wow!!! I wish I can get that. I'm negotiating with a dealer in the Dallas Metro Area and he wants $33,214 (Edmund's TMV) for a '06 EX-L with RES. I decided to order accessories from a website and we will deal with those later.

The invoice is $31,718. I'd like to buy it say $500 over invoice. Do you think I would have luck on that??

    Thanks.

Just received written (email) quote from Bay Area dealer for:

2006 Honda Pilot AWD EX-L with Navigation

    price: $31,800 (including destination)
    fees: $45 docs fee

Interesting thing is that we asked for that price, there was not much negotiations, now we are just waiting for them to find/order the one with our color/interior wishes.

By the way, Autowest in Roseville was completely dishonest, stay away from them.

How'd I do? Just bought an '06 Pilot AWD EX w/complete tow package and running boards, mud guards & Rust & Interior pkg,(which was not my idea, but we have 5 kids)total: $30,060 :confuse: . $55.00 doc fees. I think I did o.k. but???

    Hi there,

Which Bay Area dealer offered this to you? And who is the sales associate? We could hardly find anything below 33K. Thanks in advance for your reply!

    Hi there,

Have you made any decisions lately? We're in the SF Bay Area and looking for a 2006 EX-L. Have you found a good dealership? Would appreciate any comments. Thanks!

    Hello,

No decision yet. One poster received a really good price on an EX-L with NAV - $31,800 in the Bay Area. I am waiting until late December.
  • hankansanhankansan Member Posts: 4
Does your price include dealer appearance package and other dealer markup? Do you know what your out the door price will be before tax? It seems like dealers will quote a dealer's invoice price but all the add on charges make it not such a great deal. Can anyone give a price that they have actually paid for a 2006 AWD with Nav before taxes. thanks
  • crocro Member Posts: 9
Ok, we were dealing with another dealership close to our home and told them we have a lower quote from somewhere else (and we didn't) than the dealer made a mistake and said "is it Oakland Honda"?.

10 minutes later we had a quote from Oakland Honda for '06 AWD EX-L with Navi for $31,800. Problem was that we wanted black with tan and there is only 3 in California right now. So we actually bought from Stockton Honda (they matched Oakland's quote) only because Stockton was able to get that exact color from somewhere else, otherwise i would go with Oakland because they guy was great.

    Price paid: $31,800
    + $45 docs fee
    + $271 license
    + $2465 tax
    + $8.75 tire fee

total = $34,590 OUT THE DOOR

I live in the New York metro area, and just got a quote for a 2006 Pilot EX-L at $300 over invoice ($30,580), along with running boards for an additional $580. CarsDirect currently shows $600 over invoice.

Is this a good deal at this time?

    Any word on future incentives/financing?

How did you make out with SI Honda? In the market for a Pilot and will be visiting SI Honda. Was it a real price? Should I deal with them or Bay Ridge?

I am planning to buy a 2006 Pilot this month. My impression is that the 4WD is much more popular than the 2WD. I am living in VA and it only snows several times a year. Does it worth the extra thousand dollors to get the 4WD instead of the 2WD?

    Thanks
  • pilotdudepilotdude Member Posts: 3
Hey cgfan, I was wondering the same thing and I too live in Northern Virgina. Initially I'm inclined to go with 2WD but I would like to hear other people's opinions.

Did you find good deals in the Northern VA dealerships?
I'm about to start the serious search this weekend.

wood trim dash, wood trim interior, wood shift lever (knob), rear splash gaurds, crossbars, all season mats, chrome exhaust tip, side step (black) all included (installation also)---> sale price was 31,130 (car dest. incl))+ 1804(accesories)

Good Deal or not?...i let him, get me a little on the accesories but I got more on my trade in...
  • cfletchcfletch Member Posts: 5
let me know what you find out about the check list...btw, did you put down a deposit at the dealership to find you the car you are looking for?

Not in Socal, but Norcal. Just signed contract today (pickup 12/20) for a Sage Brush Pearl '06 2WD LX for $23,998 + TTL (all other dealer fees included - no doc fee). Works out to be $846 below invoice. Cash deal.

Dealer was Walnut Creek Honda. I made an offer in writing, and they accepted. No upselling of anything else either. A truly great experience, up to now. I expect the delivery to run smoothly as well.
