thanks for the tutoring. i'm not in a rush but when i read what you got your car for, it did make me wonder if i could get a simliar deal. i'd be trading in my 01 odyssey which i've already gotten quotes for $9000. my goal is to come as close to $21000 as possible(after trade in). if that minor miracle occurs, then i might do a straight finance or possibly consider a 'smart buy' finance based on the 21K plus tax. the monthly payments might be considerably cheaper even though i'd have a ballon payment at the end. babbling, sorry. thanks again!
I am getting $935.00 below invoice for 2wd EXL from a dealer in MD. Tomorrow I will go and pick my car and let you guys know how that purchase went. invoice I have for my car is 28652.00
I bought a Pilot LX today, price is good, $23884. but the dealer then offered me an extended warranty, $1330 for 8yr/120K with no deductible, but it buddled with a exterior-telflon fortified sealant and interior protect for $1475
He sounded like the whole warranty can be canceled within 60days. but actually the protection for $1475 is not cancelable, it counted as cash accessories.
Thanks to this forum for excellent advice. I will attempt to "re-pay". The following was my Twin Cities leasing experience.
I sent the following EM to the metro Honda Dealers plus ones in Mankato, Rochester, Duluth, Sioux Falls, and Eau Claire.: ========================================================== Dear Internet Manager:
I am interested in leasing a Honda Pilot EX AWD w/Leather before the end of December. I am looking for a 42 month lease with no money down (except for tax/title/registration) with 12,000 miles per year. Colors: Desert Rock or Amazon Green. Please provide me your best offer in the following format:
I understand that Money Factor will vary based on my credit score. I am Ok if you provide the 2 best possible money factors contingent on my credit.
Please understand that I am well versed in market pricing, dealer holdbacks and the like. I hope we can do business together. ========================================================== Surprisingly, I only heard back from two of the Twin Cities Dealerships (Burnsville and Hopkins). I had lots of interest from the non-metro area dealers. I'll cut to the chase: 1) Winning Dealership: Ken Vance Car City in Eau Claire 2) Price Paid including dest charge :$29,500 3) Accessories(Mats and Mud Flaps): $205 4) Money Factor: .001 (determined by your credit score) 5) Residual: $18,813.20 (Determined by Honda corp.) 6) Money Down: $896.75 (Registration, 1st month payment, and $89.50 services fee for dealership) 7) Monthly payment: $343.50 (includes MN sales tax of 6.5%)
Lessons Learned: a) On leasing focus your negotiation on the Sales Price (that is really the only thing the dealer can negotiate) b) Consider as many dealerships as possible c) The Twin Cities dealerships had no real interest in negotiating d) I would highly recommend Ken Vance Car City. Although I did not purchase from, Tom Kadlec Honda in Rochester was very responsive
I hope this helped someone get a better deal. Thanks!
Sadly, you're most likely going to have to eat this as it's not something the dealer can actually remove or take away. The teflon sealant for the exterior is unfortunately something that will wash away after a couple of car washes and the interior protectant is simply just a $3 can of scotchguard from 3M.
I personally wouldn't even bother with the extended warranty (and didnt when I bought my LX last Saturday.) Hondas have a virtually spotless track record and provided that you're diligent about routine maintenance will run forever. Cancel the warranty (if you actually can) and consider that money saved a wash with the $1475 you spent on the "cash accessories."
i was quoted a price of 33,753 for a 2006 pilot exl though the salesman said he could probably do a little better, how much that would be is unknown probably not significant . also what should i expect to pay for the 8yr 120000 mile extended warranty? reading some of these negotiations in this chat i feel like a schmoe if i take this deal . would it be better to buy now or wait until after the first of the year
joeysdad, i am looking for an 06 awd exl-res here on long island. my best quote so far is now $1000 below invoice at $30,218. i emailed them back confirming the price making sure destination charges are included($550). look back at earlier posts by 'andyrus'. follow his procedure to get a better price. good luck!
I am being offered $ 28,931 for a 2006 Pilot 4 WD EX with Leather by a NJ dealership. Is this a good deal or can I get this for even lower in New Jersey?
you can try asking to the dealer about it saying that you have charged too much for it and if you can get something instead(He is not going to return money) like few service coupons etc. get the extended warranty from hondawarrantyinfo.com.
thanks for the advice, I called the guy, he said it is not negotiable, but he can switch to a car alarm.
The telflon job is for 5 year ganrantee, if the coating is damaged by natural reasons ( I guess) and the interior of car has some spillage, they will cover it.
Which one should I go for, of course, I will try to get the both for the same deal, if it is possible.
though I was tricked by this one, the deal is still in not bad shape, because I got the car price at 23844 without destination fees. of course without the scam, it would have been a great deal?
Honda Car Alarm is $242 plus installation charges(around $450) but it would take out your keyless entry(so reduce price for that). Ask for both (car alarm and your protection) plus maybe something else( glass tinting $250, cargo tray $80). The car price is good in itself, infact it is best till now in LX model.
I live in Port Saint Lucie and have been dealing with a Honda dealership up here in Fort Pierce. Miami is a bit of a drive for me and before I start the process of working with a dealership that far away I have a few questions. Who is the Internet Manager and do you still have there e-mail address? Did you actually work the lease off of the discounted price? Did you trade in a car? I have a car in which I have negative equity and I think that the dealer I have been talking to is giving me a low ball for my car as well as charging MSRP for the 06 EX Pilot. I have my work cut out for me and sounds like I could do a lot better at Beach Honda. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
please provide dealership info. i am also looking for a Pilot EX-L with Navigation, i've got an offer with Navigation $32000 and wihtout Navigation $30000.
My sister and her husband has decided to go test drive a Pilot tomorrow. Thinking of helping her out. So here I am. Where can I start to email to several dealerships for the best price ? Thanks.
Thinking of an 2005 because it seems to be the best deal right now as dealership will want to clean them out. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated thanks.
I will probably reccommend my sister to buy an 8yr/120K miles extended warranty.
thanks, you have been really helpful. This is my first new car, I really appreciate the information I get from here. Should I not know this forum, I am sure I will pay another 2000 extra.
I could argu to have some extra things, but I am almost sure that the dealer is only going to offer me one of the two, either protection or alarm. The reason is simple, he has the money now. He has a certain arrogance when answering my phone now refusing to discuss this matter further.
I would prefer to go for the alarm, but a little afraid he agrees only because he wants to use a cheap alarm or this is just a beginning of a new trick. what is your opinion?
One question I am having now is that it seems all maintaince such as oil change and tire rotation within the 3 year warranty, we have to pay the dealer?
another question I have is that I got an insurance quote, if it were yesterday, I would have paid the deposit immediately, but I had a lesson, so I decided to check here first.
Provided by Explore: two cars, 1. 92 camry LE 2. 06 Pilot LX BI $100000/300000 property damage 50000 uninsured motorist $15000/30000 uninsured motorist property $3500 waiver of collision deductible (vehicle 2 only) other than collision, $250 deductible(vehicle 2 only) collision $250 dedcutible(vehicle 2 only)
total premium $1633, sounds good, just a little worried that the reputation of the Explore.
Yes make sure that you get good quality Alarm only(Honda or Viper etc). Tell the dealer that if he gives you good options then you would continue to come for service. For any scheduled service you will have to pay. you can go to any dealer or authorized service center.
Insurance looks ok to me but why only for vehicle 2????? If you have good driving history then you can get quote as low as 1400 for two cars fully covered(if you are in california). I have never heard of explore though. Did you try Allstate, AAA, farmers?
try getting quotes from any online site(edmunds.com, kbb.com, honda.com etc). my research tell me that 2005 are usually around $1000 cheaper than the 2006 models. dont forget to compare the new features in 2006(mayne something worth spending money). For extended warranty use online sites(hondawarrantyinfo.com or google for more ) and if the dealer matches the price then you can take from the dealer as well. I am in bay area too and I bought my 2006 EX 2WD last week for about $1275 below invoice. honda is also giving good financing options untill jan 3rd 2006.
Where did you buy your Pilot EX-L ? I am also in the Bay Area, hoping to buy this week-end. I have a quote for 28.5 (includes destination); invoice is 29.2, so looks like you got it for around 28K. What dealership did you go with, and was this just via their web-site or did you negotiate face-to-face ?
Just bought a 2006 EXL AWD (no nav, no dvd)last night at Boch Honda. Consumer Reports Bottom Line Price is $29,289 (the purchased $12 report). They say you should expect to pay 4% to 8% over this price.
Here's what I got:
$29,900: including cargo tray, rear splash guards and a remote starter. This also includes the $550 destination--which a lot of dealers like to try to stick you with as an additional "fee".
Also gave me a reasonable trade-in deal on a 2003 VW Passat wagon.
I think you got a good deal, enjoy the car. Would appreciate info on the remote starter...is it made by Honda or a third party, and does it integrate with the door remote or do you have to carry around a separate remote?
andyrus, talked to a friend who used to work at nanuet honda in westchester. his friend was able to get me a price of 31,218, including destination and prep charges. $50 over invoice, not bad. will wait to see if i can get that here on long island. laxcoach
I just got a quote from Open Road Honda in Edison, but every dealer I take to says they give fake prices to pull you in and then raise the price when you arrive...
Has anyone ever heard anything negative about Open Road Honda?
Hello everyone. This forum was very helpful when I leased my second Honda (first was 02 Odyssey ex-l). $31,450.00 was final price. Returned Odyssey at end of 48 mos lease and with low mileage "trade in", lowered my sales tax hit resulting is monthly payment of $ 375.00 for 42 mos. I was promised a lower monthly payment by other dealers but was satisfied by "hassle and game free" approach of Castle Honda in Morton Grove, IL. I paid only title and doc fee of $ 150.00 with no money down and no security deposit (lease loyalty benefit). Have credit info when negotiating. Emperical of 720+ gets best loan rate "money factor" possible. Buying experience was typical as expected. Games and dealers assuring they are "losing money" abound. Don't listen to it. Do your homework and know exactly what you want. The car is great and fits my family of five comfortably. The XM and RES are stress savors for parents of young kids. Waiting to test the 4WD on snow. Looked into leasing a larger SUV, i.e., GMC Yukon and Chevy Tahoe. Why pay more for car and gas? The Pilot is an awsome SUV and we love it!
RE: Remote starter. Another dealer was throwing it in, so I decided to ask for it at this dealer. I'm sure that it's a separate remote. Nice to have in the winter, though. My wife will use it more than me.
We will pickup tomorrow a 2006 AWD Pilot EXL for $31900 out the door with with Crossbar and Running Board all included. It pays to shop end of year. I would negotiate as much as you can and try other dealers like we did here in Paramus NJ.
Ended up purchasing the 2006 AWD Pilot EXL for $33200 out the door. Ended up being $31,000 for the vehicle. (MSRP was $33,045.00) Talked to three different dealers in the panhandle area, was def. the best one. Sales tax here is 6%.
That's a great price. Which dealership did you buy it from? I'm in the Bay Area and am in the market myself. Also, did you request a quote from their internet/fleet department or negotiate with a regular salesperson?
I bought from Sunnyvale Honda. I got quote from almost all the dealers from bay area. I asked by phone for best price to couple of them(stevens creek, winter honda, Sunnyvale honda) and then tried to get the best. Sunnyvale Honda person was nice talking to me and promised me to beat the best price I had. I went to talk to him and finally got the vehicle for approx 1300 below invoice. I liked the dealership because the person was very nice in dealing and did not offered any extra options by himself. My other friend bought another Pilot two days after me and also got similar kind of deal. Somethings which can be negotiated for sure: Delaers have 3% holdback(around $850) destination fees is $550.
Hi. Thanks for the advice again, and wish you a very happy new year.
I went back to the dealer, I guess I can only choose between the car alarm and the telflon job
The car alarm system is System 3000+ with following features
remote control transmitters code hopping Factory remote interface status LED Valet/Emergency Override switch passive arming ignition lockout remote keyless entry starter disable dual stage electronic shock sensor ]parking light flasher pathway illumination horn pulse generator automatic rearm remote panic all entrance protection dome light illumination
I think it is a fairly common alarm, neither Honda or viper product, I probably will go for the paint job. at least it is "warranted" for 5 years of paint damage caused by natrual forces, bird dropping tree sap etc. also with 5 years of internal fabric protection of food and drick spill etc. What do you think?
bascially it is a 300-400 dollar job. I am sorry to say this car buying experience makes me lose all trust in car salesmen. Even today when I returnned to the dealer, their customer service still try to convince me not to cancel the extended warranty with a very unpleasant warning tone.
one last question, my car label said 75% parts are from US and canada, 20% from Japan, engine is built in alabama, transmission built in Japan, is this true with all Pilots?
Just purchased on 12/29/05 from Sloane Honda in Philadelphia, PA.
$25,425.64 this included dest; total out the door price was $27,269.18 (tax, tags, etc). Was very happy with the dealership and people there. Told them on the phone ahead of time what I would pay. They honored the terms when I got there and I was in and out of the dealership. I believe they had some 05 models still as well. Just wondering if this was a good deal. No one in NJ had a Silver model in LX...was worth the drive.
going for paint job seems to be a better option. anyway you can get the car alarm in deals from best buy for approx $250 installed. Cancel th extended warranty and take it online. dont worry about the customer service tone. you still have one card in your hand. Honda Inc would send you a satisfaction survey and if you provide bad score in that one it would affect dealership relationship with Honda. Information on car label is correct and is true for all Pilot. Good luck and a very happy new year.
Here's my experience. $30500 for car including $550 destination charge at Honda of Seattle with the 2.9% financing for 36mo. Costco price was 31,040. Another dealership offered the same thing and threw in the wheel locks and splash guards (assuming they actually had the car) - but they were 45 min away and I had already spent out test driving time at H of S and they had gone and gotten the car from Tacoma so it was on the lot. So I gave them the business. Plus they are the closest dealership so it wasn't worth the extra drive. It still took hours to go through all the paperwork and various BS. But we drove it home and got the sales tax break for 2005.
Judging by the price quotes I'm seeing from other locations, Seattle seems like a higher priced market.
I just bought a 2006 Pilot 4WD EX-L with Navi from Lodi Honda after extensive email campaign throughout Northern Calif dealers. Originally we weren't interested in navigation model, but when quoted $31, 258 we thought "what the hell"...about $1000 below supposed invoice as told by other dealers & Edmunds. They even agreed to a trade-in amount via email before I travelled the 1.5 hours to Lodi (2001 Expedition: most trade-in quotes in the $11,500 range, they promised $13,500). I was braced for some shenanigans, but everything went as promised and very smooth transaction. Makes me wish I was closer to try out their service. God, I almost sound like a planted employee! Only thing is: it doesn't have the "mirror with compass"...just a regular mirror that dims via lever. What's up with that? Expedition spoiled us with auto dimming rear view & side mirrors. So...what accessories does anyone recommend and best place to buy them? I'm thinking the auto dimming mirror and running boards and maybe something from Yakima for roof rack (skis & snowboards). Any recommendations?
