    Hi All,

I am shopping for a 2006 Sparkling Graphitte Metallic 325i with the following:

    Auto Trans.
    Poplar Natural wood Trim

The MSRP is 32, 870 and Invoice is 30,205.

My question is how much over invoice would be a good price for this car?

Also, in Bay Area, CA is there a dealer you wold recommend?

    Thanks.

Hey sorry this is not a RE I just dont know how to post.
Here is my deal Id love to here thoughts. First of all let me start by saying BMWs are the best cars in their respective classes. Now here is my deal let me know if people think im getting ripped off.
    2006 325Xi
    Sparkling Graphite/Grey Leather
Premium, Navigation, Blue Tooth, Xenon, Cold Weather Pckg.

I want to buy a new 2006 BMW 325i in the near future (in Virginia) and I'd like to get an idea on what would be a fair price. These are the options I'm interested in: automatic, cold weather package, sports package, power seats, power sun shades, Arctic Metallic paint, black leatherette w/aluminum trim. The MSRP is $37,515. The invoice price is $34,430. The TMV is $36,683. Also, could someone give me some idea on the additional costs, such as delivery, taxes, etc.?

    Thanks

Don't work off TMV. That's pretty worthless. Invoice is 34,430...so decide what you're comfortable paying over that. For me personally, I'm not cool paying 1k over invoice...many people are. Always work from invoice up. Best way to get that: email around to dealers outlining what you want and what you'll pay. Let them know you'll accept a counter offer.

TTL (tax, title, license:) it's safest to assume 10% of the cost of the car's purchase price. If it's less you'll be happy. ;)

    Hi-

I have to make a decision on this is the next couple of days and I'd like to hear from everyone if this is a good deal since this is what I have been offered.

    2006 BMW 330i Black Sapphire/Terra leather
    MSRP-$44,440
    Final sales price-$43,500
    Sport
    Premium
    Cold Weather
    Sat Radio
    Auto
    Money Factor-.0037
    36-month lease
    15,000 miles/year
    Down payment-$2500
    Residual-$27,108 at 61%
    Security deposit of $650
    5% state tax
    Doc fees-$75
    Monthly payment-$639

Is this a good deal? I'm thinking of lowering the sales price and money factor!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,769
Something that jumps out at me is the money factor..

Since the base MF is .00225, there doesn't seem to be any way that they could be charging you .0037.. The maximum mark-up would put it at .00265...

Is the $2500 the entire amount due at signing? Or is that plus 1st payment, security, tags, etc..?

I think you could definitely work on that selling price.. another $500-$1000 shouldn't be too hard to do...

    Thanks kyfdx-

You are correct with the .00225 money factor. I just confirmed this with the salesman-he initially sent me .0037 for some reason.

$2500 is the total due at signing which includes first month's payment, tags, etc.

The dealer is having it shipped from another dealer at a cost of $500.

Additionally, he just offered to waive the $650 security deposit because of my excellent credit.

Monthy payment is now $619 with $2500 total down.

    Can I do any better?
  • petesamprspetesamprs Member Posts: 25
There seems to be a lot of problems here.

First off, what state are you in, so we can figure out how your tax is calculated? I'm getting your $639/month payment in your previous post if you assume taxes are treated like they are in NJ but at your 5% rate. That also assumes $0 down and a MF of 0.00225

Next, your selling price is about 3k over invoice, so you're leaving too much value there.
Next, $2500 seems way too high to be only your up front payment + TTL, especially since you're not putting down a security deposit. So is this a down payment or not? I'm guessing it's not, but then why is it so high?

If you are truly putting money down (which you shouldn't), then your monthly rate is REALLY bad.

And what change made your rate come down to $619?

If you got another $1.5k off your selling price ($42k even), your rate would be $591/month. The other assumptions look good.

    In summary:
    - Make sure you're putting 0 down and figure out why it's $2500 up front
    - Bargain down your selling price AT LEAST another $1k.

    ****
    Comparison -
My 330i w/ sports package, heated seats, comfort access, will be $514/month in NJ (6% tax) assuming no money down, 63% residual (12k/yr), 0.00225 MF, and a selling price 1k over invoice.

    Thanks petesamprs-

I live in VA which has 5% sales tax. The car is located in PA and the PA dealer is shipping it from another PA dealer at a cost of $500 (I can't seem to find who the dealer that has the car is).

I requested $1500 over invoice, the invoice is $41,005. The sales guy came back and said he'd offer $1500 of his true cost-his breakdown is:

    Invoice-$41,005
    Delivery Inspection-$180
    Carpeted Mats-$125
    Transport-$500
    Profit Margin-$1500
    New car detail-$190
    Total sales price-$43,500

I offered a $2500 down payment to lower the monthly payments. Included in this down payment is first month payment of $638.15, money down to reduce payment of $477, tax on money down of $14.31, VA 3% tax of $1305 (not sure where he came up with 3%), and doc/temp tag fee of $75. Total is $2509.46.

He offered to waive the securiy deposit of $650. The acquisition fee is $625.

If I put 0 down, how can I reduce the monthly payment?
  • invainva Member Posts: 8
By waiving the security deposit of $650-the sales guy states that my new monthly payment would be $619.
  • petesamprspetesamprs Member Posts: 25
First off, invoice on your car with destination is $40,725. (verify this using edmunds calculator). That means your selling price of $43,500 is $2,775 over invoice (ie, WAY too high). Delivery inspection, new car detail and mats should be 0. Transport should be included too. Plus his "true" cost of the car isn't really invoice anyway.

I would start considering other dealers in the area to see which gives you the best price...don't be loyal to a dealer that's trying to screw you.
  • petesamprspetesamprs Member Posts: 25
Waiving a security deposit should not lower your monthly payment.
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950
You say that inspection, detail, and floor mats are "0"? Transport included? How do you figure? And what is the "true" cost if it's not invoice?
  • invainva Member Posts: 8
    Thanks All-

I'm going to approach the dealer with these questions and let you know. It' funny how one dealer can make something somewhat simple, so complex!
  • invainva Member Posts: 8
Here is the interaction with the dealer-

Will someone please explain to me if I'm getting a good deal based on these comments by the dealer to me???

The invoice amount I gave you is accurate, and you are welcome to see the hard copy. If you calculated your invoice from the web then are two items that are missing. Each invoice nationally gets a charge or $180 (BMW training fee) and every regional invoice gets a charge of $100 (MACO- advertising funds BMWNA matches and uses to buy regional television advertising) The $280 is difference in our numbers.

As much as my expense details are typically discussed with clients, they do exist. Because of your desire to deal at $1,500 over cost I wanted to detail where my number came from. I said that I would sell you the car for $1,500 over my cost.

In your last example I told you that your security deposit was included in your lease payment, in order to keep your total COD at $2,500 So because your security deposit was included in your lease payment, your payment drops when the security deposit is removed.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,769
    A few points...

    1) Edmunds base invoice includes the $180 training fee.. It just doesn't break it out..

    2) He is most likely correct about the $100 MACO charge.. in fact, that is a fairly low one.. they are regional in nature, so Edmunds doesn't include them.

    3) He has a point.. he didn' t agree to $1500 over "invoice".. just $1500 over his "cost".. That is why I don't like to do "invoice up" deals...

    4) He is waiving the security deposit, by upping the money factor.. I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with your credit rating.. The reason your payment goes down, is that your money upfront remains the same... Your $650 security deposit has been converted to a cap cost reduction (downpayment)... this does lower your payment (though I'm surprised it went down $20/mo), but of course, at the end of the lease, you don't get $650 back, either...

Later, I'll work up a sample lease deal for you, given most of these paramaters..

Here is the way I would want it to look.. We'll use a proposed selling price of around $2000 over invoice, just so we have round numbers, and so the dealer doesn't have to make money anywhere else....

Also, I think the sales tax on cars in VA is capped at 3%.. Not sure how that relates exactly to leasing, but we'll go with his assumption of around $1300 for sales tax..

    $44,440 MSRP
    $43,000 Selling price
    $43,625 Cap Cost (selling price + $625 acq.fee)
    3yr/45K lease
    61% Residual
    .00225 Money factor
    Payment = $618/mo.
    Due at signing = 1st payment ($618), security deposit ($650), taxes ($1300?).. Title/license fees ($100-$300?) maybe $2600-$2800 total..

So, you have a few things going for you... It appears that your dealer is using the base money factor and the base acquisition fee... as this deal is very similar to what was quoted.. Really, the only difference is the $500 lower selling price that I used in this example...

The one point that I'd like to stress.. Given a set amount for a monthly payment, and due at signing.... a lease with a security deposit is a better deal, as you get that money back at the end of the lease term.

So, $619/mo. with $2500 upfront that includes a security deposit, and I think you've got a fair deal... Nobody is getting rich, and you can't brag to your friends about the deal.. but, nobody is getting hurt, either.. You are only about $500 total away from that right now... Of course, I'm assuming that the dealer is actually paying $500 to have this car shipped from the other dealer..

    Hope this helps,

Hi, has anyone had any recent buying experiences for BMW 325 or 330 in Canada?
Could someone tell me if they got any discounts buying a BMW 3 series? I'm trying to buy a 330 but the dealer here in Ottawa will not discount. I would be willing to travel to Toronto or Montreal to save a few bucks.

    thanks

Since I ordered my car in August I want to make sure the October program is the same. I've seen different Money Factors like .00225 floating around.

    My Deal:

    325xi/36mo/12 miles/year: Residual 62% and MF .0028 (.0025 - .0029)

    Hi!

I just ordered a 330xi from Markel BMW in Omaha, NE.
    Jet Black
    Beige Leather
    Premium Package
    Cold Weather Package
    Comfort Access
    Sirius Satellite Radio
    Rear Spoiler

MSRP was $45,026 including $46 for installation of the spoiler.
Dealer is offering the car to me for $43,995...straight up cash transaction.

Considering the "x's" just came out...and demand is high in my region...is this a good deal? According to TVM, the invoice for this car is roughly $41,301, so I'm paying about $2,694 over invoice for it.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks!
  • calif65gmcalif65gm Member Posts: 75
Almost $2.7K invoice seems a tad high, although the Xi's are new and quite popular.

Is that total including tax, lic and doc fees or additional?
  • thrbekthrbek Member Posts: 14
$2.7K over invoice does not include tax, license or title fees. It DOES include all other fees. The guy gave me about $1,000 off invoice and did the spoiler installation, (normally $200 for labor), for only $46 which he said were shop supplies.

I actually didn't expect to get any break on price since the 330xi's are so new...and actually, every one enroute to my city has already been sold. I normally wouldn't want to pay more than $1,500 over invoice...but in this case...I'm thinking of trying to get him down to $2,000 over invoice.

That would put my purchase price for the 330xi at $43,200 and some change.

I'm looking to buy a 330i with sport package, premium package, navigation, automatic, comfort access and park distance control. Edmunds Invoice is $41870. How much over invoice (before tax title and license) should I expect to pay if I get a good deal? I know TMV says $45,077, but I think that's on the high side as my local San Antonio dealer has offered me $800 off sticker.
  • thrbekthrbek Member Posts: 14
    Hi!

The BMW Midwest region has had it's WORST September ever recorded. October is looking about as bad...so if you're looking for a great deal on a new 3-series, look to the Midwest. I just ORDERED a new 330xi from my dealer in Omaha, NE, and they knocked more than $1,000 off the MSRP. They also threw in free mats, (about $150), and free installation of the rear spoiler, (another $200). All told, that's about $1,350 off MSRP and about $2,150 over invoice.

ALSO...they're offering financing at 3.9% for 36 months or 4.9% for 60 months!

BMW doesn't have much in the way of holdbacks....and not alot of margin in the car to begin with...so I think getting that price on a BRAND NEW model, (the 330xi), is pretty good. I bet I could have done a *lot* better on a 330i.

You should check around...maybe check Kansas City, or Des Moines, or Omaha...might be worth the cheap airplane ticket...and the nice drive through the fall colors back to Texas!

    :)

Considering all the hoopla about the security deposits in a couple of recent posts, I thought that the dealers can waive the security deposit for people who already have another BMW lease, that is, who will be leasing yet another BMW once their current lease with BMW expires. I guess that this would apply to people who have not pulled any violations in their leases, and this would actually make sense as such leasers would have established their good credit rating with BMW FS so they would not need to pay "security" deposits again. The waiving of security deposit in this case should not cause any increase of money factor. Is this true?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,769
Yes, in most cases, returning BMW lessees can have their security deposits waived, with no increase in the money factor...

We purchased a 2006 325i on Sept 10. MSRP was 36,220 - Premium package, metallic paint, Steptronic, and heated seats. We took it home for 34,600 at 5.25% interest for 60 months ($800 over invoice) We had to haggle a lot for this deal though. Started at 34,400, got talked up to 34,600 and held steady from there and refused to go any higher or we would walk. Got our price. Was first quoted 7% APR for the car, then he dropped it to 5.9%. We actually did walk out over that one because the guy refused to budge but we knew we had excellent credit and could do better elsewhere. Got a rate of 5.25%, called up BMW, and they matched the rate. We came back to sign the papers/take delivery the next day. Looooove our Sparkling Grapphite 325!!!!
  • dfosherdfosher Member Posts: 26
Thanks for the clarification kyfdx. I just called my dealer and he said the residual on a 325xi is lower than a regular 325i. 62% vs. 63%. He also said the lowest BMW will allow is .0028 for a money factor on a 325xi. He could go lower on a 325i.

Of coarse I believe your numbers.

I currently have a 1998 328i convertable that I am looking to trade on a new 330xi. I have two questions as this is my first time negotiating for a car by myself. 1) How much of a better deal would I get selling my old car myself? Is it really worth the hassle? And 2) How much over invoce do you think i can get in the Chicago area on the new car?

    2006 330xi

    Cold Weather
    Premium package
    black paint
    comfort access

Stay away from The BMW Center. I am on my 3rd BMW and I have gone elsewhere each time because they are such XXXXX. I'm surprised they even came off of sticker. BMW of Austin is GREAT and you can negotiate!!! In addition, they treat you like a King/Queen. It is well worth the drive.

    2006 325i

    Metallic paint

What should I pay for this car? My local dealer in Lancaster, PA (Faulkner BMW) says they will only discount $1000 off MSRP. I know I should get a better deal elsewhere. I am willing to travel. Plese help. Thanks in advance. :shades:

Is it OTD or +tax, lic fees. It's about $2K over invoice. Is it metallic paint or not?

You can do better than $2k over invoice depending on where you're located. I'd keep looking.

I bought a 330xi ('05) from Faulkner BMW six months ago. With incentives I got $7000 off list price plus they reduced the extended maintenance plan cost from $995 to $650. I would recommend dealing directly with the sales manager and if they won't budge further off MSRP negotiate the extended maintenance or extended warranty. My experiences with this dealership have been good. I would avoid Sun Motors in Mechanicsburg where my experiences were exactly the opposite.

    Hi calif65gm

Thanks for your reply. The price I mentioned is before taxes. My dealer is reluctant to budge from the price quoted. :(

I am new to the car buying experience and I have been obtaining quotes from various dealers in the Atlanta, GA area to see what is the best deal that I can get. Therefore, here is one quote that I received. I think this is a an awful deal, but I some insight on what price I should be negotiating for given the options I have specified. Thank you.

    Specifications:
330i - Metallic Paint - Leather interior- Premium package - sport package - comfort access - heated seats - aluminum trim.

    Quote:
MSRP: 43,270.00 - OTD = $40,989.20(plus,tag,title,sales tax and doc fees)
36 month lease/30,000 miles total (10k); Due at signing: $1732.00 (includes security deposit, tag, tax, title, doc fee and 1st month payment) Monthly Payment: $577.00 (plus sales tax per month)

Help! What kind of deal should I be looking for? :confuse:

I think this is a an awful deal, but I some insight on what price I should be negotiating for given the options I have specified.

Why do you think this is an awful deal? Just generally assume dealers are out to screw people?...... To get more than 5% ($2281) off the price of one of the hottest cars out there is definitely great. If you look at Edmunds' TMV price, you're about $1500 below that.
  • feistylegalfeistylegal Member Posts: 18
Here are the reasons I thought it was an awful deal:

    1. Mileage. I would only get 10k miles a year as opposed to 12k, which is generally standard or 15k a year. Which means I could only drive about 1k a month!

    2. Total Price of Car. The total price of the car does not include tag, title, tax, etc... It would be great if the price that was quoted (40,989.20) for the car included all of those factors.

    Comments are greatly appreciated! :)
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950
If you want more miles, then just ask for quotes for 12k or 15k. Many people don't need extra miles, so 10k/yr is often the mileage quoted.

Every car purchase has taxes and other fees associated with it. The dealer has no control over what Uncle Sam takes from us..... The discount you've received on the car is excellent. Unfortunately you'll have to pay the government the same as the rest of us.
