I'm in the process of ordering:

    2006 330i Sparkling Graphite Metallic/Beige leatherette interior/wood trim
    Automatic
    Comfort Access
    Satellite Radio

    My deal:
    MSRP: $40,140
    36/month 12k/miles
$1469 down (incl security and TTL)
    MF: 0025
    Monthly: $581 ($616 tax in)
    62% residual

Using the base rates, and assuming the $625 acquisition fee is rolled into the cap cost, the assumed selling price is around $39,335..

Only an $800 discount from list...

If you shopped around, you might be able to get another $20/mo. off of that, but that would probably be all of it....

Wow 7% on a lease is ridiculas.. I see VW is offering 1.9% on the brand New 2006 Passat.

  • jaggjagg Member Posts: 21
I actually tried to get them lower, but he said this was their absolute lowest and that if I got a lower price I should take it. Maybe its the SoFla market, but this was one of the better prices I got. I agree that I should have been able to get $20/month more off, but it didn't seem possible in my local area.

Well.... if it is the best you can do, it is the best you can do....

Cars that sell well don't need incentives.... At least the residuals are very good on the 3-series...

I'm interested in buying a 2002 or 2003 CPO 330ci. How can I find out what they're bottom line is? These numbers are available for new cars. Are they availble for pre owned?

Every used car is different... color, options, etc...

You'll never know a car dealer's bottom line on a used car, but you can research prices here on Edmunds...

If you have a specific car in mind, you can post details here: Real-World Trade-In Values .... and, someone will be along to give you a reasonable estimate of the value..

    I'm looking to buy a 2006 330i

    Options:
    Preminum Package
    Automatic
    Heated Front Seats
    Satellite preparation
    MSRP: 36,300
    Suggested Price: 41,045

Dealer Offered me 42,661 including tax, tags and title. I don't know if this is a good deal. Any help?
  • nyccarguynyccarguy Member Posts: 17,540
Yeah, but then you'd have to drive a VW :P

The high lease rates were one of the major factors in my decision not to lease a new '06 325i a few months back. I was given an excellent selling price at something like $800 over invoice and the residuals were good as always, but the lease rate made the payment seem just OK, nohing great. I was quoted $499 per month including taxes with $0 Down paying 1st month, securtiy deposit, & Acq fee up front on a 36 month/15K lease on a 325i with leatherette, 6speed manual, SPort PAckage, Heated seats and Sat Radio.

In contrast, my parents pay on $143 per month more on a $51K 530iA because when they leased, the rates were dirt cheap.

Hmmm not sure where you got MSRP of $36,300 and Suggested Price $41,045. I guess you mean invoice of $36,300, but I get $37,915. You need to remember to add the $695 destination charge and are you getting metallic paint? Metallic paint is another $430. Also what's the tax rate and the licensing in your state?
Tell the dealer to break everything down for you.

    Good luck.

Have you tried going to a credit union bank for a loan? I have excellent credit and my interest rate is 4.3%. I've researched a found that if you go through a credit union back you save a lot more then going with the dealer. Make sure that the loan is a simple interest loan instead of a compound interest, which seems like what most dealership use.
  • sweetblue22sweetblue22 Member Posts: 5
Well, I have a copy of the options from the dealer. It says Manufacturer's suggested retail as $36,300. Then in the list of options it does add the $695 for destination charge. Tax is 6% plus $20 license, $26 transfer plus $9.85 for notary and $389.40 for preparation? This is my first NEW car experience? So does the $42,661 which includes everything sound good? Also the paint is not metallic...I want the Alpine White.

    Thanks
  • calif65gmcalif65gm Member Posts: 75
Lot of junk fees, what the heck is $389.40 for prep. The other ones are small so negligible. I worked the numbers back for you and looks like it's about $1911 over invoice and they got another $389 on the fees, so making about $2300 on the car. You can do better, but if you're happy with the current deal and feel it's fair for both parties then that's all that counts.

Good luck and let us know what happens.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,412
$36,300 is the base MSRP... Where are the prices for the other options?

If you want advice on a purchase price, you'll have to have the MSRP of the car, as it is equipped.. I didn't see that in your message anywhere..

    yeti4,

Sorry I didn't reply to your question sooner... looks like you were offered quite the deal! As I and kyfdx have mentioned in past posts, the offer you receive is based on the market conditions in your particular marketplace. I am not sure where you live, but demand may be lower than where I am. This may also explain in part why you could secure a September build. The other reason why you could get a September build and a good deal, perhaps, is due to slots allocated by BMW in Germany. The way my salesperson explained it to me, each licensed BMW dealership gets a set number of build slots in Munich, based loosely on their gross sales volume. In Minnesota where I live, all September build slots were taken, which pushed me into the first week of October (I placed my order August 26). Apparently, they were not all gone in your case. Low demand? Luck? Good timing? I can't tell in your case, but either way I hope you jumped on the deal! Nice work!

Also, from what I have been told, it will take about 30 days or so after your vehicle goes into production until it is ready for pickup at your local dealer. You shouldn't have to wait until December, I wouldn't think! Anyone who ordered back in January would have to wait until beginning of October or thereabouts, as the 2006 325xi and 330xi didn't begin being manufactured until this month (September).
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,412
I see that... but, you aren't going to get many people that are going to look up all of the option prices, then add them up to find out the car's MSRP.. (well, some of us will.. ;) )..

If you list the vehicles MSRP, and what the offer is.... you can get a lot of response to your question...

Thanks for the reply. I put down the deposit and ordered the car about three weeks ago. The vehicle went into production last Friday according to the dealer and should be ready for delivery in the last week of October (again from the dealer). I've been tracking the production via the 1-800 number - should be completed 4 October. YEAH! I agree with what you said about the dealer having a build slot already. I think they adjusted the color, when I got the production number and went into OC it showed a grey interior - I ordered black leather and in a few days it changed to the blk cow. I'm in North Carolina so not too many xi's rolling to the dealers, perhaps the reason for the good deal. I'm pretty stoked as I look around the various forums and see what people are getting the xi's for. Seems like a decent deal to me. :)

Spent one week learning about the car, another week to collect quotes. After test drive bargening took 10 minutes. Paid $ 29.9K ($1000 above invoice},out of door $32K. The car arrived one week earlier than promissed and it was correctly equiped. Dealer at BMW Elmhurst {Chicago area} was very polite and businesslike, not pushy.
325i is a very good car for resonable price. I still learning how to drive the car smoothly, but I am very impressed and waiting for the time when I can go up to the red line.
    This forum is very educational.

Don't know if this will be of any help or interest to those of you currently negotiating, but I received an offer of a $1,500 discount on a 2006 325i. today. The car is Arctic metallic (my favorite BMW color) with black leather. The premium package plus a few other things -- heated seats, I believe -- I didn't write all the options down -- and including the $695 destination charge come to exactly $34,915, and he offered $33,415.

I have stopped by twice for two brief test drives -- that's it. No indications from me that I was ready to sit down and talk about a deal. So the initial negotiating salvo comes from him. And, in fact, I'm not really ready for this stage yet -- still trying to decide if I can truly afford the car, since I'm currently driving a $19,000 Accord. We'll see.

Unless it has previous accident damage.... that is a steal....

Seems almost too good to be true..... I'd have it looked at very closely....

kyfdx....i did a carfax on it and it came back clean! i was curious though....it was at a benz dealer. would it be wise to bring it to a bmw dealer to have it throughly inspected? if so, do you know what the average price range is to have them inspect it? thanks
  • chitownguy1chitownguy1 Member Posts: 8
this is my first "looking into purchasing" a bmw. so my thoughts are a little skeptical as to what price range etc id be looking for. how does a 2000 323i with 28k miles sound for $19,995? again these prices are w/o tax, title, tags etc. also, do you know how much to expect in taxes and all the rest once its a done deal? thanks for your help and feedback
  • chitownguy1chitownguy1 Member Posts: 8
hiya. im not too far from elmhurst bmw. i was actually in there like 2 weeks ago looking at a used 325ci convt...white with black top. i was just curious....who was your sales rep? i know of one there that i talked to, but i wasnt sure if he can wheel and deal, ya know? thanks
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,412
Sorry... we don't allow information to be exchanged regarding salesperson names...

As far as getting it checked out? For possible accident damage, I'd want a body shop to look at it...

If you take the VIN number to your local BMW service department, a friendly service advisor may run a vehicle history report on it, for you.... This will tell you any service issues and what dealer maintenance has been performed on the car...

That's about $2k-$3k below what they're going for at the auctions..... Strange.

CarFax doesn't show everything. Just because it's not on there doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Example: In 2001 some 16 year old kid without a license in his daddy's SUV tried to cross four lanes of traffic by taking a left turn at a "no left turn" sign.... right in front of my wife in her 2001 Honda Civic (only 6 months old!) The car was about $15k new; figure value around $13k or so at the time of the accident. There was $8500 worth of damage (extensive frame damage)! In Pennsylvania, the total loss percentage is 80%, so it wasn't totalled... which is ridiculous. It took them 2.5 months to fix the car. I happened to check a CarFax on her car about 4 months ago.... Completely clean. Really makes you wonder, huh?
  • chitownguy1chitownguy1 Member Posts: 8
sorry to hear about your accident. i hope your wife came out ok from that wreck! darn kids these days! so if carfax makes ya wonder about stuff like that, what do you think the most reliable source would be? any suggestions?
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950
Oh yeah, my wife was fine.... Not a mark on her! That little car did a great job! She was really frazzled -- she couldn't talk straight on the phone with me, and she was crying pretty wildly.... understandable, of course. Fortunately for her, a friend of hers just happened to drive by after a minute or two, so the friend and her clear mind were able to help out my wife. I, of course, was about 8 hours away at that moment, so I wasn't much good.... :(
  • chitownguy1chitownguy1 Member Posts: 8
thats great to hear! luckily your friend was around to be there when she obviously needed her most.

04 325i, silver/black 'ette, sport, moonroof, heated seats (MSRP $32,100). OEM alarm. 5 sp manual. 13.5k miles. $22,750. is this a good price?
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950
Certified? Accident record? Without factoring that in, this is an excellent price. Probably around 2k-3k below auction prices, so it makes you wonder....
  • bon_bonbon_bon Member Posts: 20

it's not certified, it's a private party sale and has the original 4yr/50k warranty. carfax is clean.... ?
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950
    carfax is clean.... ?

As you probably just read in my earlier post, just because it's not on CarFax doesn't mean it didn't happen.... Get someone (in particular, a BMW Center) to inspect the car and have them look for any traces of accident/flood/etc damage.
  • goodshopper99goodshopper99 Member Posts: 19
thanks. but why do you say it's 2-3k below wholesale? edmunds & galves gives tradein value of $22,400 for the car. plus this car doesnt have leather or auto, which makes the sale harder. also I'm in the midwest and it's getting cold here!! :(
  • bdr127bdr127 Member Posts: 950
I checked here on Edmunds with the options all selected (including metallic paint [silver] and wood trim, which I'm assuming this car has) in Clean condition and I got just under $24k. KBB has it the same price under $24k in Good condition.... National auction listings show 69 2004 325i sedans selling at an average of $25,500 with an average of 14,411 miles. Some of those cars will have more options than you, but some will have less (no sport, no heated seats, etc).

Regardless, it just seems as though someone would strive to sell the car for at least what it's worth... not what you can wholesale the car for. Just wondering about it, that's all....
  • goodshopper99goodshopper99 Member Posts: 19
wow, thanks for the reply. you guys know a lot here!! i'll keep an eye out and get the car inspected. !!

I am negotiating a price for a 2005 330Ci with auto, premium, sport, cold weather packages and xenon.

    MSRP $43,620
Invoice $40,220 per dealer ($39,990 per edmunds)
Dealer incentive $3800 through the end of the month

The true invoice I should negotiate from should be $36,420 correct?
I live in the Chicago area and the best price I got over the phone from several dealers was $37,820. I said I wanted to come in and negotiate the price some more, but he said that was the lowest they could do. After calling 7 dealers there were only 4 cars in the area with the equipment I wanted. What do you think a good price should be considering the 2006 coupes will be coming in a few weeks? Does anyone know if the $3800 incentive will continue into October or maybe even go up?

    Thanks
  • goodshopper99goodshopper99 Member Posts: 19
was there a cash incentive last year for left over 2004 325i sedans? If there was, then my $22,700 deal wasn't that great, after all.

Looking to buy in a few weeks. At this point I am reviewing inventories off of local (Philly . . . 100 mile radius) dealers websites trying to find a car with desired options (auto, heated front seats, metallic paint). Based on previous posts, it's safe to say that approx. $1,000 over invoice is the going rate. My quest is finding a silver exterior with a beige interior (leather or vinyl). After a couple hours of research . . . no luck. Any suggestions?

On a side note, is the 4 year / 50,000 mile maintenance plan honored at any BMW dealership or just the one where the car was purchased?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,412
I don't think you are going to find too many of that combo... Most silver cars for dealer stock will have black leatherette/leather or gray leather...

Also, if you don't want the premium package, it is going to be doubly hard to find... You might have to order to get that combo....

And, the maintenance plan is good anywhere... I bought my 325i used with 7K miles... and not from my local dealer... But, they still do the service, and even give me loaners....

Base model (manual)+ heated front seats+metallic paint+Sate. Radio prep.
    Final Price=invoice+$180 traning fee + 120 Docu. fee +$700+ STATE TAX 6%
    Total (out door)=$32,810

    State: IN
The whole deal was made by phone in 2 days without seeing each other.

    How is this deal?
  • vsaxenavsaxena Member Posts: 211
Excellent considering that it is a stripper (low optioned). Are you ordering or picking up from the lot? If you are ordering it is even better since the dealer is taking a big risk in ordering a car not many people will want (manual, no leather etc.)

I am in the market for a 2006 325i sedan.

Does internet pricing really save me much money vs direct negotiation?

I was getting an internet deal of 1500 over invoice. Would I get a better discount just haggling?

Plus, does the bank fee apply to transactions that are cash and/or finance or does it apply only to lease?. The dealer in question was trying to apply an $825 bank fee even though I would be financing.

Lastly are prices more competitive in southern or northern california?
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,412
The bank fee is only for leases... If he was trying to apply it to a finance deal, then he was either making a mistake... or trying to add bogus charges on to your deal.

The base acquisition fee on a BMWFS lease is $625... which the dealer is allowed to mark up to $825...
