anybody getting a feel for whether the new 3's are going to be selling at MSRP? Has anyone got a discount on an ordered 2006 325i or 330i?

Saw a guy claiming 1250 over invoice in CA. Another board though.

Just do ED and you'll save thousands off msrp.
  • amt7565amt7565 Member Posts: 165
    Thousands??
Well maybe $2300? All the ED does it give it at invoice rate, right?

Hi. I am about to ink a deal with a Northern NJ dealer. I'm looking at a 325i, cold weather package, metallic paint, premium package and automatic. $2000 at signing, no cap cost. 36 month/12K miles lease. $425 a month includes tax. Would love some opinions. Thanks!
  • xogradyxogrady Member Posts: 19
DiFeo was by far the most agressive negotiator. I tried 3 dealers on Long Island and 2 in Queens and no one would match the deals from DiFeo. All over the phone/web. Made it easy. Highly recommend.

Hard to beat the ED invoice price +1000.

Someone mentioned only 2300 off? Uh, dude, I did up a 330i with metallic, park distance, sp and leather. Sticker is almost 41k. ED invoice price plus $1000 dealer profit = 36k (including shipping/handling). Maybe it's me but that looks like a $5k difference?
  • lilbertlilbert Member Posts: 5
Interesting. I had some issues with Defeo. Prestige BMW in Ramsey matched their deal for me (actually $1.00 less) and they are very easy to work with. Also all phone/web. Leased a Lexus from them a few years ago and they were great.
  • amt7565amt7565 Member Posts: 165
Thanks for posting the sticker, but for some reason the characters are too small for me to view on my PC....perhaps I am on the only person having this problem....

Regarding Ed, a savings of $5k? Holy moly!
So I assume for a 325i it might be at least $4k.

    Thanks for everyones info.

    Thanks, Kyfdx.
It is a 36-month term with 12,000 miles a year. I did this over the web and I sent another e-mail asking what the rate should be for a 24 month lease. The dealer responded that he would like to discuss any other options in person. Should this raise a red flag (i.e., bait and switch?) or should I go along with it. Also, based on the numbers I have given, what should payments on a 24-month lease be?

    thanks again!

I'm about to purchase the following:

    05 330i
6 speed manual (one of the rare!)
    Silvery Grey Metallic
    Performance Package
    Xenon Headlamps

    MSRP: $41,470

I have two dealers working on this car right now, the best offer is currently at $35,330 plus tax and license. I think I can get them down a bit more since they are competing.

    2 questions:

    a) is this a good deal
    b) what is the lowest finance rate that bmw will offer? i don't think there is a promotional rate as of right now.

any help would be apppreciated. Thank you.

I just ordered a 325I from a dealer in AZ. The MSRP was 39870 and I got it for 38340, I have bought my last 2 from him (z3 and 323) I feel this was a pretty good deal but I dont know, he is my local dealer and his service has always been great, it looks like there might have been better deals out there but I am happy with mine. I put alot of stuff on mine, like nav, met paint, auto, heated seats (yes in AZ it gets cold in the winter), xenon headlights, rear sensors, premium pack. He also is charging me for tint and floor mats. Does anyone else get charged for floor mats? I will let you know how it drives when it shows up in May.
  • ventureventure Member Posts: 3,172
I assume you know there is a $2500 incentive that the dealer should have passed on to you?

I just bought a 325i that MSRPed at $34,215 for $31k flat. I thought I could have got a better deal if I was willing to drive 100 miles to Pittsburgh, but my local dealer will pick up my car for servicing and leave me a BMW to drive while they have it, and they treated me very nice.

After we were all done negotiating and they were writing up the deal, they asked if I wanted carpeted or rubber floor mats. I didn't even ask.

I will be taking delivery of my 05 325xi, Jet Black, Black leatherette tomorrow. I found a car with heated seats as the only option so I jumped at it.

    My Price 29000+ Sales tax

I was considering waiting on an E90 but this deal was too good to let go

I hope you didn't deal with the same salesman I did. He did not give me floor mats which really kind of ticked me off.
I ended up buying them off the web through the same dealership 'cause the salesman wouldn't even give me a discount on them to the web price.
I'm still not happy about that one.......
  • collin325collin325 Member Posts: 4
Yeah, Floormats, I had to explain that one to my wife and a group of my friends tonite, and they laughed at me and told me I got taken. So now I feel a little upset, that the car doesnt come with them standard. Thats like charging for keys or something figure it into the base MSRP BMW.

Can you clarify what Ed invoice means...I am interested in ordering a new 2006 JET BLACK 325i with automatic trans, prem package and cold weather package. THE MSRP is 36,170. What price can I expect to buy the car for?
  • nymets05nymets05 Member Posts: 3
What is the approximate discount off of MSRP for a new 325I auto trans, metallic paint with prem pack and cold weather pack. I think the MSRP is approx 34,900 and the invoice is around $32,400. Any suggestions would be appreciated
  • ventureventure Member Posts: 3,172
    nymets05,

MSRP should be 35,045 and Invoice should be 31,825. With the current incentive (until the end of March) that would take MSRP to 32,545. At that price the dealer is making $720.

Anything you can get knocked off that price would be good.

I've seen where people are saying the dealers just want to get rid of the '05s. That hasn't been my experience at all. I guess it depends on what part of the country you are from.

I checked with 5 different dealers in two states and they aren't happy to let them go.

    Hopefully your mileage will vary.

Ok assuming the MSRP is 35,045 and the dealer invoice is 31,825 and there is a 2,500 incentive from dealer, then dealer cost is diff 29,335 and i should be able to buy car 700-1,000 over invoice - around 30,025-30,325 range. Is this correct?

    Just took ownership in VA from Sterling BMW;
silver grey metallic, performance pkg, sport pkg, automatic, and heated seats. $ 30,950 which I felt was more than acceptable considering the deal took only 30 minutes with the salesman. Then I left for a meeting, came back and spent 1 hr total with f+I and delivery.
Sterling was very reasonable and low pressure.
    Thoughts?

    1. There is an ED section on townhall.
    2. Look at the PDF I posted. It clearly shows the wholesale ED price. That's the starting point. Add your features, add shipping and handling (695) and add 1000-1200 for dealer profit. Assemble all that and find a dealer who will meet your price.

Invoice is 32,400...subract the 2500 incentive and add $400 dealer profit. In essence, shoot for deal around 30,400. anything over 31k on that car and the dealer is making out like a bandit on a car that's now defunct (e90s are on the way).

Just closed a deal to lease a 2005 330i with auto/premium/sport/xenon and metallic paint. MSRP was 42,245 and I negotiated a deal for 36,125. 36mo/45k lease came out to 567/mo with only minimal due at signing. How does this compare to the rest of you?
  • lilbertlilbert Member Posts: 5
I just took delivery today of the same car. The MSRP is $36495. The invoice is around $33075 + $695 destination. I got the car on lease for $31,523. I think I did really well. I'm in Northern NJ.

Looking at buying a 02 530i w/CP, PP, and SP. But I think I can cop a 05 330i or 325xi after deducting $4K from invoice; prices b/w above 530i and 325xi are close. Should I consider the used BMW or go for the new 3 Series.

If I want to make an offer for a silver-gray 330xi with an asking price of $43,795, what would be a reasonable offer if it had the following options:
    Black leather
    Automatic transmission
    Cold weather package
    Premium package
    Multi-function wheel
    Xenon headlights?
Harman Kardon sound system (I think this is a standard feature, though)

I found this as an online listing and would like to make an offer tomorrow. While the asking price is $43,795, I configured something similar online at the BMW site (minus the H-K sound and multi-function wheels) and found that it is also the MSRP. Also, are dealers typically open to "throwing in" small accessories like floormats? Any other suggestions when submitting an offer via fax/e-mail?

    Thanks for your feedback!

I went to the local dealer and they had a 05 330i with performance, xenon and heated seats, MSRP was $43,900 negotiates to a price of $36,505, or $500 over adjusted invoice.

I wanted a lease of 36 months and 15k he gave me a rate of $532 a month and that includes 5% mass sales tax. He said drive off was $767, so I'm assuming the bank fee is rolled into the payment and no security and just first month TTL. Is this a good deal? I know the total cap price is very good but are the lease rates?

I stopped into Beverly Hills BMW to test drive a 330Ci just for reassurance (I have one on order, in transit, scheduled for delivery in April), and the sales dept. told me that BMW will cease taking orders for the current model after this month. This is contradictory to what I've been reading here for several months. If so, wouldn't that imply that incentives to sell the Coupe might improve to dispose of all of the inventory? I have been given assurance by the dealer with whom I placed my order that if the April leasing terms are more favorable than March, the month I placed my order, with .0008 MF and .59 residual on 36mos (which is unlikely, but possible, if no new inventory is being produced), I would receive the better rate/terms.
  • lilbertlilbert Member Posts: 5
I went with Ramsey. They threw in the mats and are as professional as a car dealer can be.

There is a $4000 dealer incentive on the 330xi.. And, at that price, probably a $3600-$4000 spread between invoice and MSRP..

$6500-$7000 off MSRP would be a good deal... $6000 off MSRP should be the maximum you should pay...

HK and multi-function wheel are standard..

I get $532/mo. PLUS tax, with the acq.fee rolled in AND making a security deposit..

The only way I can come up with his payment is to make it a 3yr/30K lease...

So, if you can get that deal, better grab it.

I wouldn't want to contradict your salesperson, but according to BMW, the coupe soldiers on unchanged for the '06 model year..

Now, since they aren't changing the coupe, I guess they could start calling them '06 models at any time...

So, maybe they will stop taking orders for '05 coupes soon... Beats me...

By now, I know as much or more than any BMW salesperson. This is not the guy I placed the order with, who worked in BMW quality control for 20 yrs. + before going into sales at age 55. He is a pro. The guy I did a test drive with today seemed to be uninformed about several aspects of the line, so I think you're correct.

I still have that question: any thoughts on April incentives? I see massive advertising campaigns for the Lexus GS and Infiniti G35 and Ms; few ads in L.A. for BMW. Any inverse correlation between US Dollar being a bit stronger against the Euro and providing more incentives, especially for a phase-out model?

By the way, the reason for the additional test drive today was fear of lack of headroom. I am 5'11 and no question, with the sunroof, the seating is a bit awkward with respect to the steering wheel position in order to avoid brushing one's hair on the ceiling. Anyone 6' tall or greater should NOT get a 3 series, IMO. I am going to do one more check on that seating and will cancel my order if the steering wheel cannot be adjusted to suit my body type. I just don't get it---how could they not permit more angular movement in the steering for an average-sized male. I would be rather upset, after investing all of this time if my head touches the ceiling and I really didn't pay attention. But that's why you need to test drive a car you've never owned (I had five Lexus's previous) more than once. You veteran BMW owners know what to expect.

Hi Long Timers (kyfdx et all)..

I am new to this forum and it has been great help just in the last 1 week that I have started reading this.

Tomorrow, I am ordering a BMW 330ci convertible for ED (delivery on May 3rd) The options are:
    - Auto
    - Mystic Blue metallic paint
    - Xenons
    - Heated seats
    - Sports package

I offered $1000 above the ED invoice and the dealer agreed, without any haggling! (It comes to $42,995) Based on the posts and otherwise, it seemed a very good deal to me. I have few questions:
    - Is this really a good deal? Was offering $1000 above invoice a bad idea? Or most people do better than this on ED?
    - I basically want to have this car with me for 4-5 yrs. I always had thought, buying is cheaper than leasing. Will it be true in this case? (I will finance the car through my home equity loan at net effective 4% interest rate)Can someone help and give me a quick shot at possible leasing numbers? (I am in northern California and tax is 8.25% - I guess) If there is some numbers break-up- I can do my own calcualtions too - it's just that my leasing knowledge is poor so far.
    - I have indicated to the sales person that I will do my own financing. Do you think, he would now be unwilling/uninspired to do a good leasing deal? I would imagine that he shouldn't care if I finance or lease (as long as the price is same).
    - Is there a special advantage or disadvantage of combining leasing and ED?

I would really appreciate any insight into my questions/thoughts.

You need to write the actual MSRP on the car first! Then folks here can help.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,470
    Exactly... Tell us the MSRP..

    1) You can lease a convertible fairly cheaply, because of the high residuals..

    2) I'd look for a standard car loan... You can probably find something under 5% without too much trouble.. HELOCs are great, but the interest rate could be two points higher within a couple years, negating the tax advantages...

    3) With a sedan or coupe that has big lease incentives, I usually think that is the way to go, but the convertibles hold their value so well, that I don't really see any great need to lease.. Especially, if you are a low-mile convertible driver... Say, 8K/yr or less.. You can probably do just as well buying it.
Also, you want to keep the car 4-5 years.. Leasing might not have any particular advantage for you..

    4) The same advantages you get from buying ED apply to leasing ED... the lower upfront price results in a low lease payment..

    5) Be sure and get a competitive car loan quote from your credit union or bank.. and, it is possible that the dealer may be able to beat it..

Hey... spotted your post over in Lease Questions with the MSRP attached..

3yr/36K lease payment would be $526/mo including tax..

Due at signing: 1st payment, security deposit, license and title fees.. Probably $1200-1400 total.

If you even think you might lease, ask the dealer to lock in the lease rates for March.. If you are scheduled for pickup in May, you can use either the March or May lease rates, whichever is better..

The payment I quoted is only good if they use the base money factor of .0018, 63% residual, and base acquisition fee of $625 (which is rolled into the payment).

    Ursa -

In regards to your statement "Anyone 6' tall or greater should NOT get a 3 series": I'm 6'3" and I have plenty of headroom in the 3er. I'm able to adjust the wheel and seat to accomodate my size without a problem. I understand that everyone is different and that seating position and comfort are subjective attributes. If you are not comfortable in the car, that's totally up to you. But to say anyone over 6' shouldn't get this car is a bit on the ridiculous side.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,470
    ursamajor..

It sounds like you are having more trouble with the steering wheel position than the actual headroom..

I'm 6', and I find that I have plenty of legroom and headroom.. I also don't have any trouble with the steering wheel position, but I could see how others might..

The 330cic car comes to 49k msrp with his options, so 43k seems to be a nice deal.
  • ursamajorursamajor Member Posts: 127
Perhaps I wasn't familiar enough with the controls, or the salesperson was not helpful, but I had problems with posture. The maximum headroom in the coupe is 37.5" while in the sedan it's 38.4", so that could be a factor, but if you're four inches taller, then I should have no problems. Thanks for the feedback.

Kyfdx -- thanks for the info. I have been in touch with a few dealers, and it turns out that they can find me the car in the color I want, but they said it will cost $1700 to ship it over here. Have you or anyone else run into this situation before? While it would be nice to have the color I want, I could settle for another color. I'm just curious if you think it's "worth" paying the $1700 for it to shipped over. Thanks!
