Gee35, As long as you are happy with your decision that's fine. I really don't care that much to be honest. You still didn't say what vehicles have 90% + though.
Needsahemi, Good idea
Hah! My salesman didn't know it but one just like what I wanted was coming in and pulled off the truck yesterday as he was entering my order. So they saved it back for me as I slaved over making my Rodeo more presentable for a possible trade-in and I went down this afternoon to pick it up.
Basic LT package in the dark silver color (gray)with these options
Sunroof
17 inch wheels
Auto dimming mirror with temp etc
No dicker sticker came in $90 under other dealer with same options and Costco affiliate program.
$24,453 plus $1000 rebate
$149 doc fee and $8 title fee
No hassle on extended warranty and can add it later if I want too.
My salesman's lease on his wife's Explorer is coming up, they think they'll get a Nox. Another guy came up while I was waiting and asked if I was the one getting the dark gray Nox. He hasn't even driven one yet and still thinking of one for his wife too. It's generating lots of interest from the staff so lots of good buzz.
We got it loaded. Salsa Red Metallic, light grey leather, XM Satellite, AWD, 17 inch wheels, trailering package.
Most reviews state the car has a bit too much lean in corners - we just don't feel it. It handles surprisingly well for what it is. If you put 18 x 8 inch wheels on it, you would probably reduce the lean that it has even further, but I don't think it needs it.
One think I've noticed, I guess due to the Chinese engine. An hour after you've filled it up it's hungry again . . .
To all: You know the general public doesn't take the same interest in a lot of the issues that have been discussed on this thread. They really care about things like how does it look and what does it cost. I had the same V6 engine in my '88 Beretta. Underpowered at, I think, 130 hp and lost it with a 3 speed automatic. But no mechanical problems at all.
We were one of the first in our area to buy a Vue so expect a lot of looks and of people stopping you. It's a great feeling owning something new and cool.
Once again, back to the Equinox,
Steve, Host
Vuefor2, I was driving down the freeway and a guy on a motorcycle did a double take as he passed me. I thought about what some of the people had said here earlier about it drawing attention so I started watching out of the corner of my eye. Yep, I'd say a minimum of one look per mile driven. It made my day when the guy in the Murano looked too.
Went to Dairy Queen to celebrate had an Pathfinder pull up and park next to me as we could see out the window. Price and looks the Nox is one cool car. Showed it to my mother she asked how we could afford it. I said it cost 23four, she said I got a good deal. She wasn't spillin how much she had thought it was, lol.
Carsntrucks, MSRP 26,290 , BestPrice-sticker for $24,453 minus $1,000 cash, total $23,453 plus tax. It's got great power doesn't it. Yeah, I can finally merge. I pretty much agree with what you and the Mrs. have found.
I did have a scare on the way home from the dealer. I'd been on the freeway and then to the sidestreets when a major vibration hit. It would come and go. I thought I was loosing a compressor for the air conditioner I had just turned off or had a flat tire. Nope, sunroof does not like going 25-35 mph in full-back position. Pull it forward an inch or two and no problem. Don't know if anyone else has found this yet. A small spoiler, the size of my husband's hand worked fine, to change the areodynamics might be helpful.
I received the pics of the vehicle just to be certain and it seems to fit the bill. I do wish they had the dark grey that the Trailblazer has personally vs. the dark grey Nox but that's why I stuck with the Galax silver.
I get to be with it for about 12 hours driving it down, I'll be able to tell you how it feels for sure after that.
I do have one last question. Local dealers have dealer add ons that you can basically do nothing about. The last test drive included Teflon paint for nearly 1k,$300 for pinstripes and $300 for the running board I think. Being in AZ (or anywhere for that matter) would you recommend getting the following options or the factory based paint is fine:
"Some other options you have is a Plan A Autoshield Package that includes undercoat, Teflon paint protect ant, leather sealant and carpet guard. Retail price on this is $975, Internet pricing is $775.
Extended warranty is also available. The vehicle comes with a 36 month,36,000 mile bumper to bumper. You can extend it out to the following for the following internet pricing:
60 Month, 50,000 miles: $1,080
60 Month, 60,000 miles: $1,225
60 Month, 75,000 miles: $1,420
72 Month, 75,000 miles: $1,680
72 Month, 100,000 miles: $2,425"
Thanks.
Oh, congrats on your Equinox. I hope it serves you well. :-)
Just an FYI, for those who might like another source of information: My latest issue of Autoweek had a nice review of the Equinox in it. Most of the comparisons made were to the platform-sharing Vue, although they did make quite a few comparisons to the RAV, CRV, Liberty, etc. It was, for the most part, a very favorable writeup (especially when comparing to the Vue). A few nit-picky items, but they loved the looks, functionality, fit & finish, and size. Had some issues with rear cargo space for an SUV this size, and would've like to seen a bit more power (don't they always?), but both of these complaints were portrayed as pretty minor.
Most of what they said reinforced my initial impressions of the 'Nox, but I was a bit surprised that it fared so well when compared to the imports.
FWIW, I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool bowtie guy either. My wife currently drives an Acura Legend (130,000 miles). My commuter car is an Accord (224,000 miles - not a typo). Our weekend/road-trip vehicle is an '02 Trailblazer (11,000 miles).
Their revue is giving my more incentive to *really* consider adding another bowtie to my garage.
I was disapointed yesterday morning because I'd taken the exact same model on a test drive the day before, but it sold before I made a move on it. Then I found the same one at a different dealership and made it happen.
It's a great feeling to turn some heads!
I saw an Equinox in Nashville last week and was drawn to it b/c it truly does not have the look of the typical SUV. The Highlander, Pathfinder, QX4, Passport, etc... all seem to look similar and I wanted something to stand out.
My total cost for the Dark Gray FWD LT 1SD w/sunroof & 17" wheels (incl tax & title) is $24,900. For some that may not be a huge commitment but when you think of spending $35/tank of gas when you usually spend $15-when you think of insurance hiking up about $1200 more/yr...it's scary! But I've read your comments and you've helped me make my decision. I will be NOXIFIED by Monday morning! Thank You!
Gas is killing us right now, prices just hit 89 cents a liter (about $2.45 US a gallon). OUCH!!!!!!! The Equinox would definitely be an improvement.
Belgoboy, I'm not sure why you can't get a better deal than that especially on the Galaxy silver which most dealers have. I don't know why they can't install the hitch you want. I do have the AWD so our only differences are that instead of the hitch I have a sunroof and the xm radio for add ons. Zilch on the local dealer installed options. I don't think my dealer does that pre-sale but they do have a customization shop available. Come up to Idaho and save $1000. My dealer is only 300 miles up the road from Salt Lake at Edmark Chevrolet Nampa/Boise. Either way be sure to vary your speed for the first 500.
We did talk a bit about an extended warranty at the dealership but I can add it later if I want. Probably will with just 3/36 but they didn't have the Nox in the computer yet so we compared it to an Escape.
For those looking there will be little things that are either weird or minor annoyances. I'm not used to the sound of the turn signal clicks coming from the center console instead of under the steering wheel (quirky) and with the front cup holders pulled out it's difficult to use the parking brake. Oh, which beeps at you by the way if you try to drive with it on.
I was pleasantly surprised that the optional xm satellite stereo (200 for something I didn't need but the dealer thinks is going to be a "big deal" in the future) is the exact same configuration as the basic so you don't have to carry around a spare book to figure out how to set the time. (unlike Belgoboy, some of us have to do that twice a year)
Some of the reviews have mentioned road noise. The tires, even the 17 inch, defintely pick up road conditions. I'm sure driving over one of those wake up bars would wake the dead. My expectations were high so the noise bothered me a bit. Then we went back to the dealer to pick up my other car I hadn't traded in and I drove it back home. Sounded like a window was open so I guess the noise wasn't as bad as I thought.
OH, big thing for those of us getting cloth, it is very sensitive. It's going to show everything. Kid had something on his shoe and I had two marks before I got it home. Water took care of it but I'm going to the store and buying my own Scotchguard. I think I'll find something to protect under the car seat too. I used to just let the mud dry in the Rodeo and then brush it off, I think I'll have to be a bit more proactive now.
Noxwannabe: Does the XM radio already function for you then? What is the monthly cost after the 3 months you get for free. I might want to go for an aftermarket radio with XM once I've convinced I want/need it.
http://xmradio.com/service_subscription/service_subscription.jsp
If you are considering switching later I'd get it now. The installed one has an integrated panel that matches the rest of your central console.
Remember for those of you looking at prices, if you do your breakdown of options here at Edmunds take a look at the final Invoice price, not just the MSRP. Mine breaks down as:
MSRP $26,300
Invoice $24,264
Paid $24,453 (just $211 over invoice at Best Price dealer - Costco affiliation gave me $300 over invoice)
Rebate $1,000 came off that for total of $23,453.
Any of the other newbieNox owners have a sunroof? I'd like to see if my vibration is common.
BTW, almost a 100 miles and even more fun to drive the 2nd day. Loan officer had to come outside to take a look at it.
Black - FWD LT w/ 1SD package; Leather Seats; 17 inch wheels
MSRP - $24,665
Invoice - $22,756
GM Employee Price - $22,125 (I do computer consulting for GMAC Mortgage)
Minus the $1,000 Truckfest rebate = $21,125
Here are the opinions:
Teenage kids think its "Cool";
Wife likes it much better than our 2001 Blazer (roomier, bigger windshield, likes the leather power seats);
Not a single complaint about the interior;
Rides smooth - no squeaks or rattles;
Very comfortable on the highway;
Not any problems with acceleration;
Got 22.5 mpg on first tank of gas;
Kids love that back seats are adjustable (they are 5' 11" and 6');
Back seats don't fold all the way flat but dog doesn't seem to mind (Golden Retriever);
My 3rd truck from Classic Chevrolet Route 38 Moorestown, NJ 08057;
Found me a black one in one day, had it the next day;
They went 300 miles round trip to get it;
Already have 1000 miles on it (I commute 100 miles per day)
Nicest GM in the parking lot at GMAC Mortgage!
CJM, my hubby got in and said, "feels like a car". I don't think you'll have any problems in the seating roominess, the only questionable is the cargo area which because of the towers on either side is pretty narrow. I'm looking forward though to using the double decker part which will allow me to store the lawn chairs for watching soccer games underneath and yet still have a flat area for other things. Might be really handy for traveling. The Equi doesn't sit me up as tall as my Rodeo did but I don't feel low to the ground and I havne't been slowing down anymore than usual for dips and bumps. I also adjusted my seat up a few clicks to make the headrest fit, but still lots of room between me and the ceiling.
For shame!
Steve, Host
(Krispy Kreme is 1/2 way between my house and Nampa)
The double decker cargo area was great this morning for heading to the soccer game. Lawn chairs underneath and the gymbag on top. Small note the rear door swings high just not high enough to clear someone being carried piggyback.
Look for a red Subaru with an Edmunds license plate bracket at the Sav-On or Sunrise cafes - I'll try not to tag your bumper while admiring your new Equinox.
Steve, Host
My question would be to see what you think of the Teflon coating that can be included. Worth it or not? I at first said yes but I'm having second thoughts about it.
Try a search for Teflon in Store Bought Waxes Part II (No Zaino Posts).

I am surprised you are getting a dealer installed sunroof, does it have more or less features than the one that comes from the factory?
Lastly and please correct me if I'm mistaken but I have a tough time believing a dealership is or would actually install a sunroof Dawn. Did you actually see the vehicle before or you told them you wanted one and they said the would "take care of it"?
Moonroofs & Sunroofs: Which are better, factory or aftermarket?
Steve, Host
Thanks for the link Steve on the moonroof discussion. Seems a lot of them have a little vibration at different speeds that require minor workarounds. I can live with that.
Lets see, I'm up to 200 miles. I put on the scotchgaurd today so "sniff" I haven't got to drive it allllllll dayyyy. I feel so disloyal to my old Rodeo. I actually had to drive it to get around. I'm already spoiled by my Equi.
btw, that brings up another subject. Have we officially settled on the nickname "Nox" or is "Equi" my favorite, still up for grabs? Maybe it's a gender preference?
is the awd system the same exact as in the vue? versatrak? if not how is it different? when the vue first came out, i remember hearing about complaints that awd took too long to engage and that when it did it clunked.
saw a very favorable review on motorweek this past weekend too.
It was fridge white with alloy wheels. Do the LTs have any marking on them (maybe on the door)? I think this was an LS, I didn't see anything.
As far as markings, the only thing on my LT is on the tail hatch, so a bit difficult to tell if LS or LT.
From the back perhaps a bit harder to see but from a partial side view would be black from beneath the taillight all the way around to the top of the back wheel well.
Thanks.
Btw, how many miles did your car have at the dealership. Not that I'm upset but mine is sold with 16. I guess I'm going a bit crazy with this being my first new car purchase.
anyone know details of the awd system? i asked yesterday, nobody has answered yet.
16 miles is nothing (how much did you have to put down anyway to get them to hold a hot vehicle for half a month) Mine had 4 and I put 4 more on during the test drive. I probably put on 8 or 10 at least in my test drive at the first dealer. My Rodeo had over 150 on it.
Infinia, I'm not much help on the AWD. I've never had it before. The book just says that if it detects the front wheels slipping then the back wheels will turn on (which you may hear) An engine light will probably turn on too which is just saying that the engine torque is reduced when the rear wheels engage.
No black bumpers.
Scotch Guard shouldn't be too hard to find at a chain or hardware store.
