    Joey2brix, I didn't say the Equinox was better than a Pilot? Where did I say that? FYI, the Pilot is in another class of SUV.

    Gee35, As long as you are happy with your decision that's fine. I really don't care that much to be honest. You still didn't say what vehicles have 90% + though.

    Love That Equinox :-)

    It seems that I have lost some interest in this post. Everyone is discussing where profits are going and not about the Equinox itself. Please get back discussing the vehicle. Also, if you're completely against this vehicle and complaining about every little thing why are you in this particular discussion?

    Yippee! Went to the dealer and picked up my Nox. I posted a few days ago that I was going to order so that I could get the dark grey color which meant waiting up 6 weeks or so.

    Hah! My salesman didn't know it but one just like what I wanted was coming in and pulled off the truck yesterday as he was entering my order. So they saved it back for me as I slaved over making my Rodeo more presentable for a possible trade-in and I went down this afternoon to pick it up.

    Basic LT package in the dark silver color (gray)with these options

    Sunroof
    17 inch wheels
    Auto dimming mirror with temp etc

    No dicker sticker came in $90 under other dealer with same options and Costco affiliate program.

    $24,453 plus $1000 rebate
    $149 doc fee and $8 title fee
    No hassle on extended warranty and can add it later if I want too.

    My salesman's lease on his wife's Explorer is coming up, they think they'll get a Nox. Another guy came up while I was waiting and asked if I was the one getting the dark gray Nox. He hasn't even driven one yet and still thinking of one for his wife too. It's generating lots of interest from the staff so lots of good buzz.

    The Mrs. absolutely loves the car - she actually won't let me drive it. This is the first car/truck we've had in 19 yrs of marriage that she won't give up. The factors for her are good visibility out the front, smooth driving, good low range power, large passenger room, very good OEM stereo and great looks. She likes the interior. Everyone has been coming up to her and asking her what she has. She's going out to lunch every day with someone that wants a drive.

    We got it loaded. Salsa Red Metallic, light grey leather, XM Satellite, AWD, 17 inch wheels, trailering package.

    Most reviews state the car has a bit too much lean in corners - we just don't feel it. It handles surprisingly well for what it is. If you put 18 x 8 inch wheels on it, you would probably reduce the lean that it has even further, but I don't think it needs it.

    One think I've noticed, I guess due to the Chinese engine. An hour after you've filled it up it's hungry again . . .

    Congratulations on your purchase! No longer a wannabe. Out of curiosity, what was the MSRP vs. what you paid.

    To all: You know the general public doesn't take the same interest in a lot of the issues that have been discussed on this thread. They really care about things like how does it look and what does it cost. I had the same V6 engine in my '88 Beretta. Underpowered at, I think, 130 hp and lost it with a 3 speed automatic. But no mechanical problems at all.

    Congrats on the new Nox. You are our lone source of real info now. Do you like it so far?

    We were one of the first in our area to buy a Vue so expect a lot of looks and of people stopping you. It's a great feeling owning something new and cool.

    Sorry I wasn't around earlier - some off-topic pruning has been done.

    Once again, back to the Equinox,

    Steve, Host
  • noxwannabenoxwannabe Member Posts: 34
    First, Steve thanks for the pruning. All the fun stuff was getting buried.

    Vuefor2, I was driving down the freeway and a guy on a motorcycle did a double take as he passed me. I thought about what some of the people had said here earlier about it drawing attention so I started watching out of the corner of my eye. Yep, I'd say a minimum of one look per mile driven. It made my day when the guy in the Murano looked too.

    Went to Dairy Queen to celebrate had an Pathfinder pull up and park next to me as we could see out the window. Price and looks the Nox is one cool car. Showed it to my mother she asked how we could afford it. I said it cost 23four, she said I got a good deal. She wasn't spillin how much she had thought it was, lol.

    Carsntrucks, MSRP 26,290 , BestPrice-sticker for $24,453 minus $1,000 cash, total $23,453 plus tax. It's got great power doesn't it. Yeah, I can finally merge. I pretty much agree with what you and the Mrs. have found.

    I did have a scare on the way home from the dealer. I'd been on the freeway and then to the sidestreets when a major vibration hit. It would come and go. I thought I was loosing a compressor for the air conditioner I had just turned off or had a flat tire. Nope, sunroof does not like going 25-35 mph in full-back position. Pull it forward an inch or two and no problem. Don't know if anyone else has found this yet. A small spoiler, the size of my husband's hand worked fine, to change the areodynamics might be helpful.

    Thanks for that first take noxwannabe. I have to say my adventure will be quite different. Whereabouts are you in the country? I'm going to normally be purchasing my Nox in 2 weeks time (I have my sister's college graduation b/n now and then). Carsntrucks was asking you about MSRP vs price paid. I haven't purchased it yet but the deal I have on paper is MSRP of 26,095 (galaxy silver,AWD,17inch,trailer hitch,no special radio or sound system and no sunrooof). If I'm not mistaken noxwannabee has the FWD version. I was given 25,260 (It was 25,460 but I was given $200 because I'm flying into Salt Lake City and the ticket is about $100 and the dealer is throwing in $100 for gas...not too bad). Then there is also the 1k in cash so my total is $24,260 plus tax title and license (about 239.00 Dealer Documentation Fee +199.50 Transfer of Theft Deterrent Registration + 27.50 Temporary Permit Fee)

    I received the pics of the vehicle just to be certain and it seems to fit the bill. I do wish they had the dark grey that the Trailblazer has personally vs. the dark grey Nox but that's why I stuck with the Galax silver.

    I get to be with it for about 12 hours driving it down, I'll be able to tell you how it feels for sure after that.

    I do have one last question. Local dealers have dealer add ons that you can basically do nothing about. The last test drive included Teflon paint for nearly 1k,$300 for pinstripes and $300 for the running board I think. Being in AZ (or anywhere for that matter) would you recommend getting the following options or the factory based paint is fine:

    "Some other options you have is a Plan A Autoshield Package that includes undercoat, Teflon paint protect ant, leather sealant and carpet guard. Retail price on this is $975, Internet pricing is $775.
    Extended warranty is also available. The vehicle comes with a 36 month,36,000 mile bumper to bumper. You can extend it out to the following for the following internet pricing:

    60 Month, 50,000 miles: $1,080
    60 Month, 60,000 miles: $1,225
    60 Month, 75,000 miles: $1,420
    72 Month, 75,000 miles: $1,680
    72 Month, 100,000 miles: $2,425"

    Thanks.

    Congratulations on the new Equinox. I had the same feeling when I was one of the first to buy a new generation Grand Prix GT. Lots of looks and double takes. It's a nice feeling and the Equinox is likely to get a lot of looks as it's the best looking small SUV by a long shot. I just looked at the new Nissan X-trail (Canada only small SUV) and it's just not nearly as nice and it has one of those silly centre IPs. I'll take a few cheap plastic pieces over that anyday.
  • npgmbrnpgmbr Member Posts: 248
    Hey my very first car was a Baretta. I don't remember what year it was but I think it was an 88 because I didn't get it until about 92. It was Blue and had a red strip and was a GT. It has a 2.8L V6 which was very adequate for me. I drove it up to 163k then got my Tracker. Never had a problem fom that Baretta outside of routine maintenance.

    Oh, congrats on your Equinox. I hope it serves you well. :-)

    Hey all, I'm a bit of a regular on the Trailblazer forum, but I've been lurking over here a bit, as we're kicking around what to get my wife.

    Just an FYI, for those who might like another source of information: My latest issue of Autoweek had a nice review of the Equinox in it. Most of the comparisons made were to the platform-sharing Vue, although they did make quite a few comparisons to the RAV, CRV, Liberty, etc. It was, for the most part, a very favorable writeup (especially when comparing to the Vue). A few nit-picky items, but they loved the looks, functionality, fit & finish, and size. Had some issues with rear cargo space for an SUV this size, and would've like to seen a bit more power (don't they always?), but both of these complaints were portrayed as pretty minor.

    Most of what they said reinforced my initial impressions of the 'Nox, but I was a bit surprised that it fared so well when compared to the imports.

    FWIW, I'm not a dyed-in-the-wool bowtie guy either. My wife currently drives an Acura Legend (130,000 miles). My commuter car is an Accord (224,000 miles - not a typo). Our weekend/road-trip vehicle is an '02 Trailblazer (11,000 miles).

    Their revue is giving my more incentive to *really* consider adding another bowtie to my garage.

    After a ton of research, an extensive test drive, and several quote requests, I picked up exactly the Equinox I wanted yesterday. FWD LT, Sandstone Metallic, with the auto-dimming mirror as the only option. MSRP was 23450. After 1K rebate, discount, and 700 dollar trade in, my price was 20900. So far, I'm extremely impressed with Chevy's new 'compact' SUV. The interior design is phenomenal, the exterior styling is gorgeous, and the ride is smooth. There's adequate power there for all but speed junkies. I absolutely love all the little 'tricks' it can do, with the sliding rear seat, the cargo tray, the fold-out cupholders. The stereo is awesome, and has a very nice sound for not getting the premium upgrades. All-in-all, I'm loving this vehicle.

    I was disapointed yesterday morning because I'd taken the exact same model on a test drive the day before, but it sold before I made a move on it. Then I found the same one at a different dealership and made it happen.

    It's a great feeling to turn some heads!
  • dawnmoiredawnmoire Member Posts: 5
    I just want to thank you Noxwannabe for your posts! I was EXTREMELY apprehensive about purchasing a new car, especially an SUV. I've been driving my 95' civic since...well...95'-awesome gas mileage, no engine problems, 185,000 mi, etc.
    I saw an Equinox in Nashville last week and was drawn to it b/c it truly does not have the look of the typical SUV. The Highlander, Pathfinder, QX4, Passport, etc... all seem to look similar and I wanted something to stand out.
    My total cost for the Dark Gray FWD LT 1SD w/sunroof & 17" wheels (incl tax & title) is $24,900. For some that may not be a huge commitment but when you think of spending $35/tank of gas when you usually spend $15-when you think of insurance hiking up about $1200 more/yr...it's scary! But I've read your comments and you've helped me make my decision. I will be NOXIFIED by Monday morning! Thank You!

    Things are really rolling here. 2 new owners in 2 days. I wish our Bravada lease was up now so we could get one also.

    Gas is killing us right now, prices just hit 89 cents a liter (about $2.45 US a gallon). OUCH!!!!!!! The Equinox would definitely be an improvement.

    No problem Dawnmoire, glad to be of help to all that are looking. I've been looking for a year, test drove a few like the SantaFe and another Izusu, sat in the xl-7 (hit my head getting in and out)and thought I was just going to have to keep waiting. And I know exactly what it's like to have buyer's remorse. We bought a Dodge 1500 truck in 2000 and I tried to take it back the next day. Truck has been great but the dealer won't be getting any business sent by us. Because I was able to check with the dealership that had the Costco affiliation that made me confident that I wasn't getting ripped off on price.

    Belgoboy, I'm not sure why you can't get a better deal than that especially on the Galaxy silver which most dealers have. I don't know why they can't install the hitch you want. I do have the AWD so our only differences are that instead of the hitch I have a sunroof and the xm radio for add ons. Zilch on the local dealer installed options. I don't think my dealer does that pre-sale but they do have a customization shop available. Come up to Idaho and save $1000. My dealer is only 300 miles up the road from Salt Lake at Edmark Chevrolet Nampa/Boise. Either way be sure to vary your speed for the first 500.

    We did talk a bit about an extended warranty at the dealership but I can add it later if I want. Probably will with just 3/36 but they didn't have the Nox in the computer yet so we compared it to an Escape.

    For those looking there will be little things that are either weird or minor annoyances. I'm not used to the sound of the turn signal clicks coming from the center console instead of under the steering wheel (quirky) and with the front cup holders pulled out it's difficult to use the parking brake. Oh, which beeps at you by the way if you try to drive with it on. :)

    I was pleasantly surprised that the optional xm satellite stereo (200 for something I didn't need but the dealer thinks is going to be a "big deal" in the future) is the exact same configuration as the basic so you don't have to carry around a spare book to figure out how to set the time. (unlike Belgoboy, some of us have to do that twice a year)

    Some of the reviews have mentioned road noise. The tires, even the 17 inch, defintely pick up road conditions. I'm sure driving over one of those wake up bars would wake the dead. My expectations were high so the noise bothered me a bit. Then we went back to the dealer to pick up my other car I hadn't traded in and I drove it back home. Sounded like a window was open so I guess the noise wasn't as bad as I thought.

    OH, big thing for those of us getting cloth, it is very sensitive. It's going to show everything. Kid had something on his shoe and I had two marks before I got it home. Water took care of it but I'm going to the store and buying my own Scotchguard. I think I'll find something to protect under the car seat too. I used to just let the mud dry in the Rodeo and then brush it off, I think I'll have to be a bit more proactive now.

    XM radio is awesome. We have in our Accord and I drive the Accord for the radio alone. No commercials, CD quality sound and no static. It's like having a HUGE CD changer.
  • belgoboybelgoboy Member Posts: 17
    Just wondering if you were also going to receive the 1000 cashback. Don't forget to mention it or go to the GM site and be sure to print it out if you need to.

    Noxwannabe: Does the XM radio already function for you then? What is the monthly cost after the 3 months you get for free. I might want to go for an aftermarket radio with XM once I've convinced I want/need it.
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
    The basic charge for XM is $9.95 month-to-month. We purchased 2 years worth and that was reduced to $8.29 per month.

    http://xmradio.com/service_subscription/service_subscription.jsp
  • noxwannabenoxwannabe Member Posts: 34
    The 3 free months doesn't start until you sign up with them so you don't get to check it out much. However on the xm enabled radio there is a channel that is a bit of a demo channel. When you sign up you enter your code.

    If you are considering switching later I'd get it now. The installed one has an integrated panel that matches the rest of your central console.

    Remember for those of you looking at prices, if you do your breakdown of options here at Edmunds take a look at the final Invoice price, not just the MSRP. Mine breaks down as:

    MSRP $26,300
    Invoice $24,264
    Paid $24,453 (just $211 over invoice at Best Price dealer - Costco affiliation gave me $300 over invoice)
    Rebate $1,000 came off that for total of $23,453.

    Any of the other newbieNox owners have a sunroof? I'd like to see if my vibration is common.

    BTW, almost a 100 miles and even more fun to drive the 2nd day. Loan officer had to come outside to take a look at it.
  • wwalker2wwalker2 Member Posts: 1
    Here are the facts:
    Black - FWD LT w/ 1SD package; Leather Seats; 17 inch wheels
    MSRP - $24,665
    Invoice - $22,756
    GM Employee Price - $22,125 (I do computer consulting for GMAC Mortgage)
    Minus the $1,000 Truckfest rebate = $21,125

    Here are the opinions:
    Teenage kids think its "Cool";
    Wife likes it much better than our 2001 Blazer (roomier, bigger windshield, likes the leather power seats);
    Not a single complaint about the interior;
    Rides smooth - no squeaks or rattles;
    Very comfortable on the highway;
    Not any problems with acceleration;
    Got 22.5 mpg on first tank of gas;
    Kids love that back seats are adjustable (they are 5' 11" and 6');
    Back seats don't fold all the way flat but dog doesn't seem to mind (Golden Retriever);

    My 3rd truck from Classic Chevrolet Route 38 Moorestown, NJ 08057;
    Found me a black one in one day, had it the next day;
    They went 300 miles round trip to get it;

    Already have 1000 miles on it (I commute 100 miles per day)

    Nicest GM in the parking lot at GMAC Mortgage!

    Our Accord had 4 demo channels. They would change every few hours so you never had the same channels.

    I have really been debating about the Equinox. From 1990 to 1999 I drove a Ford Aerostar. It was great while the kids were younger. Then we decided to get a Chevrolet Impala (2000). It is a great car, 28-30 mpg, never had a problem, nice ride, lots of room. It has been great on trips. The only thing I miss is sitting up higher off the ground. We have been looking at the Equinox and Honda Pilot. I like the looks of the Equinox better, I am wondering if it will be roomy enough. We travel quite a bit and love the room of the Impala. My daughter has an Xterra and the ride is rough. Any insight would be appreciated.

    Cool deal with the double discount wwalker. Dogs never seem to mind do they. My hubby really wanted the leather but I voted him down. We'll see if I like the trade off or if he'll do an "I told you so". I'm going to have to be much more careful than I'm used to but I don't have to condition the leather every few months either.

    CJM, my hubby got in and said, "feels like a car". I don't think you'll have any problems in the seating roominess, the only questionable is the cargo area which because of the towers on either side is pretty narrow. I'm looking forward though to using the double decker part which will allow me to store the lawn chairs for watching soccer games underneath and yet still have a flat area for other things. Might be really handy for traveling. The Equi doesn't sit me up as tall as my Rodeo did but I don't feel low to the ground and I havne't been slowing down anymore than usual for dips and bumps. I also adjusted my seat up a few clicks to make the headrest fit, but still lots of room between me and the ceiling.

    Lol Steve, I bet I see you at the grocery store. When that new restuarant goes up across the street from Krispy Creme that will really be your favorite intersection in town. hehe :)

    The double decker cargo area was great this morning for heading to the soccer game. Lawn chairs underneath and the gymbag on top. Small note the rear door swings high just not high enough to clear someone being carried piggyback.

    Nah, I'm not a big fan of wings ;-)

    Look for a red Subaru with an Edmunds license plate bracket at the Sav-On or Sunrise cafes - I'll try not to tag your bumper while admiring your new Equinox.

    Thanks for asking about the rebate belgoboy- Actually the 24900 does include the rebate. Have I paid too much? I got (well am getting, sunroof to be installed Monday) the FWD, 1SD, 17" wheels, cloth seats, sunroof, 6 way driver seat, & satellite radio. The price includes t, t, l, & doc fee.
  • belgoboybelgoboy Member Posts: 17
    That price looks fine to me. I think I'm going to go for the "As long as you are happy with your price attitude" since Noxwannabe got a really good deal it seems. I'm just happy I went through the internet manager thanks to the GM site and saved myself a lot of hassling and a couple of grand.

    My question would be to see what you think of the Teflon coating that can be included. Worth it or not? I at first said yes but I'm having second thoughts about it.
  • dawnmoiredawnmoire Member Posts: 5
    I think it's worth it-Only b/c I DO NOT like to wax a car. My dealer explained that it would prolong the life of the paint job as well. I think you made a good choice going with the Teflon.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    It's just a wax package, regardless of what special ingredient they are touting this year. You can pay anyone to do it, and for what many dealer's charge, you could get a full detail at many private shops.

    Try a search for Teflon in Store Bought Waxes Part II (No Zaino Posts).

  • noxwannabenoxwannabe Member Posts: 34
    I assume by ttl&d you are including Tax? in there. If so then the price that we could compare to is at least $1000 less depending on where you are in the country and what your state's tax structure. For comparison purposes easier to leave off the ttl&d, then all of us are comparing apples to apples.

    I am surprised you are getting a dealer installed sunroof, does it have more or less features than the one that comes from the factory?
  • belgoboybelgoboy Member Posts: 17
    I just wanted to thank the board and especially noxwannabe for writing up her pricing info. Thanks to you, I spoke to my dealer about a "friend" who had an MSRP of $300 more than my vehicle but ended up with almost $1000 less (including the $1k rebate). So today I not only took the advice of not going fo the protection policies (I wasn't forced into it just thought it might be worth it), saving myself about $900 for that but more importantly I was able to shave off $500 from the price I was given Friday. So I have what I can consider a very good deal thanks to the board and to all the info you've posted...now if we could only be the 22nd I'd have my Equinox to tell you about.

    Lastly and please correct me if I'm mistaken but I have a tough time believing a dealership is or would actually install a sunroof Dawn. Did you actually see the vehicle before or you told them you wanted one and they said the would "take care of it"?
  • gee35coupegee35coupe Member Posts: 3,387
    Are pretty common with some dealerships. But in some instances they kill value and the installation is never as "factory" looking as OEM. All aftermarket models have to have a metal frame around the opening for support. I think they are ugly.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
    Some factory sunroofs are actually port installed, meaning some worker is cutting holes in brand new roofs at a distribution center somewhere. Or so I've read around Town Hall.

    Moonroofs & Sunroofs: Which are better, factory or aftermarket?

    Steve, Host
  • joey2brixjoey2brix Member Posts: 463
    A factory sunroof is usually frameless: the glass or roof panels seals against a nice roled steel metal edge. A cut roof must use a frame to act as moulding to cover a sawed edge.
  • noxwannabenoxwannabe Member Posts: 34
    Glad to help you save half a grand Belgoboy. Your dealer seemed just a tad too happy, buying you plane tickets and such. Your new deal sounds much better on both sides of the equation.

    Thanks for the link Steve on the moonroof discussion. Seems a lot of them have a little vibration at different speeds that require minor workarounds. I can live with that.

    Lets see, I'm up to 200 miles. I put on the scotchgaurd today so "sniff" I haven't got to drive it allllllll dayyyy. I feel so disloyal to my old Rodeo. I actually had to drive it to get around. I'm already spoiled by my Equi.

    btw, that brings up another subject. Have we officially settled on the nickname "Nox" or is "Equi" my favorite, still up for grabs? Maybe it's a gender preference?
  • infinia1infinia1 Member Posts: 174
    still waiting for my local dealer to get my ls 1sb awd nox. it has shown on gm buypower as being in stock since friday but they say it isn't there yet!!! any day now...

    is the awd system the same exact as in the vue? versatrak? if not how is it different? when the vue first came out, i remember hearing about complaints that awd took too long to engage and that when it did it clunked.

    saw a very favorable review on motorweek this past weekend too.
  • dan165dan165 Member Posts: 653
    Saw my first Equinox on the road today. Boy do they stand out in the traffic well!

    It was fridge white with alloy wheels. Do the LTs have any marking on them (maybe on the door)? I think this was an LS, I didn't see anything.
  • noxwannabenoxwannabe Member Posts: 34
    Wish I could see one. Just because I'm driving one doesn't mean I know what they look like. I think the fact that the roof rails are hidden will be one of the things I'll notice unless I see one coming straigt on.

    As far as markings, the only thing on my LT is on the tail hatch, so a bit difficult to tell if LS or LT.
  • zeenzeen Member Posts: 401
    Doesn't the LT have body-colored bumpers vs. dark grey on the LS?
  • noxwannabenoxwannabe Member Posts: 34
    By george, you've got it. I forgot about the bumper colors. I've only seen the LS in the brochure not in person. For the LS the front black bumper would extend fully side-to-side (wrapping clear to the wheel well) and from halfway up the grill all the way down. Makes the bumper, in the picture anyway, look very large.

    From the back perhaps a bit harder to see but from a partial side view would be black from beneath the taillight all the way around to the top of the back wheel well.

    Noxwannabee, does the scotchguard instructions tell you to leave it untouched for 24 hours? Can you buy that stuff at your local Walmart,etc?

    Thanks.

    Btw, how many miles did your car have at the dealership. Not that I'm upset but mine is sold with 16. I guess I'm going a bit crazy with this being my first new car purchase.

    I got Scotchguard in the car dept at Fred Meyer. Two cans seemed to be enough. Instructions say two layers better than one heavy so I used one can up and then the other about 3 hours later. It does say to wait 24 before driving. For the heck of it I did the carpet and floor mats too. Also, don't forget that part of the door panels are fabric. And air it out. I've got the windows down again today and it's been 48 hours. Oh and just noticed that the rear windows don't go down all the way.

    16 miles is nothing (how much did you have to put down anyway to get them to hold a hot vehicle for half a month) Mine had 4 and I put 4 more on during the test drive. I probably put on 8 or 10 at least in my test drive at the first dealer. My Rodeo had over 150 on it.

    Infinia, I'm not much help on the AWD. I've never had it before. The book just says that if it detects the front wheels slipping then the back wheels will turn on (which you may hear) An engine light will probably turn on too which is just saying that the engine torque is reduced when the rear wheels engage.

    Thanks for the Scotchguard advice. I've never heard of Fred Mayer though. I'll go check out the superwalmart or something. I didn't have to put anything down actually to "freeze" the car, just my word that if I got a good deal they'd have me as a customer. Thanks to you I should be writing you a check of $500 almost due to the savings. You can boast about it I guess if that's ok ;-)

    Freddies is a NW chain now owned by Kroger.

    Scotch Guard shouldn't be too hard to find at a chain or hardware store.
