And I just happen to live in the Camcord/Bu capital of the world.

    No 'Bus here yet.

Out the window goes that theory.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
No, you don't know me. By the way, my local dealer sells a lot of Malibus. Not a Single 04 yet. They do have a nice selection of Cavaliers. (03' and 04'!!!)
  • wpbharrywpbharry Member Posts: 399
They seem to be swamped with Cavs. Guess it's the final push before the Cobalt breaks ground.

Hyundai shoppers are probably at a loss for words.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
    Here's their 2004 inventory:
    Malibu: 0
    TrailBlazer: 10
    Cavalier: 75
    Tahoe: 10
    Suburban: 5
    Venture: 20
    Impala: 25
    S-10: 5
    Avalanche: 3
    Silverado: 5
    Silverado HD: 2
    Express: 0
    Express EXT: 0
    TrailBlazer EXT: 1
Kinda weird how they have less of the high volume cars and more of the Cavaliers. My Pontiac dealer has over 100 Sunfires ready to go with a big $3,999 discount slapped to them. The Toyota dealer? Not a lot of 04's. Just a few Solaras and Camrys.

"I'm considering a CR-V FWD or maybe one of those $9995 Aveos."

No offense to you or anyone interested in the Aveo but I must ask this. Why on earth would anyone consider buying the car? It's a rebadged Daewoo with a measly 3 year warranty. A Hyundai or Kia would be a much better value and have a huge warranty. Is it because a Chevy badge looks better than a Daewoo or Hyundai/Kia badge? I see no possible advantage in buying an Aveo. Or are people already expecting massive rebates on this thing? If so looks like GM will take the crown from Kia for cheapest cars sold. But I guess the Aveo is American, go figure.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
the reason is because I'm anticipating the huge $3000 rebates, which would bring the starting price to $6999 and it is an American badged car, so when I drive up to Detroit occasionally I won't be taunted at for driving something foriegn. (Whether that be a KY built Camry or a OH built Accord) Saw the first Malibu LT sedan at the dealer today. Navy Blue, loaded. Had a big SOLD sign in the window. Guess someone pre-ordered that car.
  • pzevpzev Member Posts: 807
An Aveo at $7,000? Rebadged Daewoo or not, that's an absolute steal. Under those circumstances I couldn't blame someone for getting it. Now with price being equal, I'd take the better warranty, but if the Aveo has a price advantage then it makes sense for someone to buy one. Also some people may not have access to a Hyundai dealer near them and Chevy dealers are everywhere so that could become a factor as well.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
There's only one Hyundai dealer and two Kia dealers in my area. If all three prove to be people looking to steal my money and charge an arm and a leg for service, then I'll just go to one of the 7 Chevy dealers in my area and pick up an Aveo. that $6999 is for the hatch, I think. after all rebates too. there has got to be at least one nice dealer amongst the 7 in my area. (If a dealer does not have the Aveo I'm looking for, they could easily trade, unlike the Hyundai and Kia dealers in my area)
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Easier to trade because there's more Aveos in my area than Accents or Rios.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
    Who cares about Aveos?

Let's get back to the Maxx.

Was too busy to participate in the Aveo bit.

So, what's today's topic with the Maxx? Still a bit confused over UltraLux. Is it really that bad? Not doggie friendly?
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
I'd likely get cloth, don't care.

I just want to know what the ride quality and handling will be like vs the sedan and the small SUV choices.
  • maxx4memaxx4me Member Posts: 1,340
with a nice long wheel base like the Maxx will have, the ride should be sweet!
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
does not equal smooth ride. A Excursion is a long vehicle, yet the ride is certainly not smooth.
  • maxx4memaxx4me Member Posts: 1,340
gee, thanks, but I'm sure you didn't mean to equate the wheel base of a pathetic gas guzzling piece of garbage to wheel base of a car. A longer wheel base most certainly does equate to a nice ride in a car.
  • jcat707jcat707 Member Posts: 169
My local Chevy dealer (Joe Panion Chevrolet in Southfield, Michigan) has 4 2004 Malibus. All 4 are loaded LT models.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
An excursion is also a TRUCK riding on a truck frame with truck tires.
  • wpbharrywpbharry Member Posts: 399
NO WAY!!! I'm sure the new Malibu will be just fine, and the Maxx even better.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
maxx4me didn't mention what kind of wheelbase- just a long one. A Excursion or even a full sized van for that matter has one of the longest wheelbases for a Automobile. Does that make them smooth? No. A 1997 Honda Accord, which is classified as a COMPACT by the EPA was very smooth, as I think is the 2003 Civic. A longer wheelbase improves the chances of a smooth ride, it does not guarantee it.

I downloaded a brochure but did not see anything about interior colours. All the photos I have seen have shown grey or dark grey. An 04 V6 LS showed up at a dealer here in Toronto. It had a _tan_ interior with a wood trim strip across the lower dash.

I was mostly interested in trying the seat. (If I wanted one, I would go with the Maxx, not this sedan.) The older I get the more sensitive I am to car seats. This one wasn't bad. Might be a tad narrow for me.
  • maxx4memaxx4me Member Posts: 1,340
yes, the older I get, the easier I want it to be for me to get in and out of a car. That is why I bought a Vibe, and that is why I am so attracted to the measurements of the Maxx.
  • regfootballregfootball Member Posts: 2,166
its amazing that after 100 years of building cars that sedans still dont have

large enough doors and clearance to get in and out of comfortably

comfotable enough seats so that you don't feel scrunched and have to contort to get in and out of.

The vibe/matrix is actually much easier to get in and out of than most sedans.

the ford 500 promises a more upright and comfortable seating and ingress/egress.

I think most folks would prefer sedans again if they were not so cramped and easier to get in a nd out of.

I do believe that little gal has mellowed you out!

I agree with you totally, and the Maxx looks promising in that regard. The Impala now has 135,000 miles, and if something I want doesn't come out soon, all these trips to Philly, Florida and Missouri are gonna eventually cause something to break on the Impala.

It has been a VERY reliable vehicle. I am watching the Maxx with interest (and checking to see what my November schedule looks like today at work...)

Which dealer did you pop in to? Nothing at Towne in Oakville as of 2 days ago.
  • wpbharrywpbharry Member Posts: 399
Haven't had a chance to stop by my dealer this week, and doubt I will until next week.

I am keeping on top of the posts, sporadically.

Golden Mile in Scarborough is where I saw the car. Sales person at Parkwood on Lakeshore East downtown also called to say they had the car
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
Used to get my car serviced at Parkwood when I worked downtown. Maybe I'll check it out as I'll be downtown this afternoon.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
has a malibu!!!!! a loaded LT in Navy Blue with a Tan interior with a huge SOLD sign in the window. That car must have been there for a while, because I don't recall seeing it a week ago when I drove by in my Civic smiling.

Well guess what???????? My local dealer is wondering why they still have those "excellent" Impalas sitting around when they just sold a $25K Malibu LT.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
Ya, it's very cool. Great previews and news video clips. You need hi-speed though.
  • maxx4memaxx4me Member Posts: 1,340
dindak, I clicked on your link, watched the news video, and saw nothing about the Maxx. What did I do wrong?
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I went to your link and also saw nothing about the Maxx. I did decide to see the clip about fuel cells and GM said they wanted to reinvent the automobile. Then again...... that's what they said in 1995 when they introduced the GM EV1, leased exclusively through Californian Saturn dealers.
  • according2meaccording2me Member Posts: 236
and click new vehicles at top left box.
The Maxx will be the first video.
  • according2meaccording2me Member Posts: 236
It reminded me of my Citation.

I'm disappointed they didn't make the front snazzier than the "Plain Jane" Malibu.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
according : Looks better in person.

maxx : Click on vehicles in the top corner. You will get a different set of videos to choose from. CTS-V looks wicked, too bad I can't even come close to affording one. :-(
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Saw the link. Seems to review all the info we've received from this discussion. saw the video about the Chevy Aveo too. Seems like GM is not serious about the car- they're promoting a new car smell instead of a used car.
  • maxx4memaxx4me Member Posts: 1,340
thanks Dindak. does the girl come with the Maxx??
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
The girl does not come with the Maxx. She comes with the Aveo!
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
    with the Saturn LW300.
  • dindakdindak Member Posts: 6,632
    I wish.

    ;-)
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
You have to upgrade to the Cadillac Escalade to get the girl..........
  • wpbharrywpbharry Member Posts: 399
Guess "Ms. Martha" got the girl. Boy, the "significant other" must really be having a fit! (If you saw the Martha movie on TV, you know what I'm talking about.)
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
Yeah. She hired Andy's future wife as an assistant. Also, she hasn't bought an Escalade ESV yet, she still has a Suburban 2500.
  • wpbharrywpbharry Member Posts: 399
I nearly just lost it reading the posts "over there". Despite a forceful and wise intervention by the Host while I was away earlier today, the discussion continues headed to doomsday.

I've tried all I can (and thanks to some others).

Let's talk the new car over here.
  • maxx4memaxx4me Member Posts: 1,340
Well, after dodging idiots for a week who refuse to stop at intersections with darkened signals, I for one will welcome the low end torque of the pushrod Maxx. There is no doubt where I live, in the worst traffic in the US, that for me to avoid an accident, a small car is the solution. While the Maxx will be the largest vehicle I have owned, I believe it is the ability to get off the block and up to highway speed quickly that will keep me and my car intact for a long time to come.
I'm waiting for a Bu with grey cloth to show up somewhere in my area. I probably will go drive one just to get a sense of the electronic steering and comfy high seat position. From there, I should have a commanding view of the geniuses driving big SUVs as they attempt to get out of the roadside ditches they so commonly find themselves in.
  • wpbharrywpbharry Member Posts: 399
    (Quick break from TV)

I agree. First, I need to see one, test out the pedals, check out the grey cloth, and DRIVE ONE. I think we'll be fine.

Have to disagree about the traffic situation being the worst (yes, with Isabel, I'd agree). EVERYTHING down here is under construction. We're growing faster than you can say boo. Baby-boomers on the way, and it's a mess. Overcrowded parking lots (that were designed years ago) as well. AND the snowbirds are about to arrive once again. I'm getting a headache.
