A reporter would like to speak to recent Honda CR-V buyers. Please respond to ctalati@edmunds.com no later than July 19, 2007 with your daytime contact information.

Hi, I'm shopping for a CR-V 2WD EX and one of my local dealers quoted me a price where he said invoice for a a 2WD EX was $22059 whereas edmunds and kbb both say invoice is $21846. When I asked him about this he said that Honda was now has a 1% dealer advertising fee for all dealers in California. Has anybody else heard of this?
  • mmgcrvmmgcrv Member Posts: 3
I haven't heard of the dealer advertising fee. However, as an earlier poster pointed out, any fee with the word "dealer" in front of it should be negotiated (preferably waived). I would go back to that dealer with your Edmunds and KBB pricing in hand to show the difference in invoice pricing so you can work from the best price.

And regarding the 2008 CRV, I found a vehicle review article here:
    Autoweek.com Article -- 2008 CRV

I wonder if they really reviewed the '08 model. It doesn't cite any differences (other than price) between '07 and '08, but I would think there are some. Does anyone have other sources on this?

By the way, I'm still undecided on the CRV, but if any dealers or Honda executives are lurking on this message board ... consumers are tired of the car-buying "game"!

We are waiting for 08 model comes out and buy 07 is hoping the newer model comes=08, the older model=07 will be cheaper. The newer model should have some advance features, so older model should have more discount. Plus, when Honda has new models, other companies can have new models too. Like Toyota Highlander, 08 model looks very cool too. I still like CRV the most, so I am waiting for a lower price. Hopefully, when 08 model comes, 07 model will sell less.

The 08 CRV body shape shouldn't change much or no change at all. It should least for a few years. This applies to all cars.

The best thing is you don't have to buy it now, so hang on to your 11 yrs old car. :D

I read somewhere that Honda's advertising fees are already included in the invoice price, so I would ask them to waive the fee.

Hi all! I was seriuosly jerked around by several dealers, but I am now the happy owner of my 07 CRV w/ Navi. I love it!!! Paid sticker price, purchased in January. At first the gas mileage was way lower than expected, but now that it's broken in a little bit I am getting about 27 mpg! Love it.
  • bob57bob57 Member Posts: 302
I've noticed dealerships (especially, Honda) will try the "Advertising Fee" on you to see if they can get away with it. When you start walking the "fee" suddenly goes away...
I'm waiting for the fee on the full tank of gas...
  • j_phj_ph Member Posts: 19
    > 07 model will sell less.

unless the 08 has a bigger sticker price, which given the current demand that is entirely possible, and so the end result is that the 07 discount may not amount to much as the inventory quickly drops.

I hope so, but I don't know how much of an effect we will see. If there was a larger inventory the discounting would be more predictable.

    regards.

I finally purchased the car (picked it up a couple of hours back). The OTD price was $23213 (22995 + 218 Reg/Lic) - CRV AWD EX (with no dealer addons). Dealership info - Jay Lee Honda of Gladstone (in Oregon). Excellent service and I was in and out of the dealership in a little over 75 minutes
Thanks to 'dnison' for the tip.

I just got a pretty good deal on a 2007 2WD LX: $19750 + a processing fee of $99 + taxes & tags. OTD price was $21,510 (that's with DC sales tax of 7%). What's more, I was out the door in about 90 minutes with no hidden fees and no arm-twisting.

I did all my searching via the internet, but the responses I got from DC-area dealers were pretty unimpressive, plus they wanted to tack on high processing fees, or ridiculous "accessory" fees. I read on this forum that someone had had a good experience with Heritage Westminster Honda in Maryland. I had no idea where that was, but I sent them an email asking for a quote. I got by far the best price from them, with no bogus extras. The salesman seemed straight up and the price was great, so even though it turns out Westminster is 60 miles from DC, I decided to go with them. Saved ~$1000 over the next best price quote I got. (I arranged my own financing and didn't trade-in, so can't comment on that part of the car-buying experience.)

I highly recommend Joe Ski, Heritage Westminster Honda. A pleasure to work with.

Purchasing a CR-V and trying to get a really good deal is next to impossible - this is because sales of the CR-V are up 53.2%. Dealers are not willing to let go this model because it is selling so quickly. What was shocking to me is that the CR-V is selling for as much as some Pilots. lev Pilot sales are off 12.8%, and dealers are trying to move them because of the fear of rising gas prices. Anyone know of dealers in the NY/NJ area that are giving great deals on CR-V during the Clearence now going on?

Hey - you can lower your windows with the remote. You act like you are unlocking all the doors by pressing unlock 2 times. Then you press it a 3rd time and hold it down and the windows will roll down how ever far you want them to.

Well, "games" get played in both directions!

I doubt if we will see many, if any changes to the 2008 CRV's. Maybe they will drop a color and add another, something like that?
  • hansmuffhansmuff Member Posts: 15
Oh Man. Mine doesn't do that. Is that the EX-L model maybe? I have an EX made in Japan, bought it in 10/07, and I tried many times I can't do that. I would have LOVED that feature.
  • oli1oli1 Member Posts: 33
Last weekend in San Bernardino, we paid OTD 23,600 for a 2wd no nav and cloth interior with EX trim. That was a tough negotiation, the two large dealers in SoCal didn't have Glacier Blue in stock and one dealer did but his vehicles had extras that we didn't want to pay extra for.

    Los Angeles here,

Just decided I'd throw down for a CR-V after passing a few shiny '07 on the road this week.

I sat down and started negotiating from invoice (realized after reading through these threads that I should have not budged from invoice).

The dealer had to go to another dealership to get the model I wanted (2WD EX-L Silver without Navi). He started saying that the model he was getting from another Dealer had "pro-pack" options installed??? Flaps, Cargo net and wheel locks and mentioned that this was about $500-ish extra.

I told him I didn't want any extras and long story short settled for about $115 above their invoice price of $23,885 (basically $24,000 pre TTL).

So out the door price came to $26,500.

Now, I haven't signed anything because I wanted to sleep on it and they had to drive the car over from the other dealer, but what do you guys think? I feel like I could definitely shave off $500 from the OTD price (bringing it to an even 26K, but maybe even more?

Is $25,800 too much of a low-ball offer? After reading some of these amazing deals you guys pulled off (invoice or below invoice) I feel like I am breaking the curve here. Plus I didn't even think about the fact that '08 are coming in soon.

    Talk to me folks! Thanks!

Thanks to you folks on this forum, I was able to buy a CRV-LX 2WD in Honolulu for $21200 OTD. Later, the dealer sent back a check for $16 for registration refund. So, the total OTD is $21184. The dealer threw in wheel locks, cargo tray and the front spash guard for free. Other than that, no other accessories.
The deal is good, I guess. But the dealer is horrible. Like being in a high pressure cooker  . They pushed for tinting, fabric protection, rust proofing for another $1K. In the begining, they even did not want to honor the quote (I got the quote via email). The salesguy kept yelling they lost money on the deal.
BTW, the CR-V runs great. I love it. :shades: It can use a little bit more power.
  • nortsr1nortsr1 Member Posts: 1,060
You are getting the CRV for slightly above invoice (because of the mudguards, wheel locks and cargo net. Plus, the dealer has to do a dealer swap to get the car (you stated he went to another dealership to get the CRV that you WANTED). Do yourself a fAVOR...YOU GOT A good deal and it looks like you also have a very good dealer. Be happy, get the CRV and don't look back. Be happy and enjoy your new vehicle.
Too many people second guess themselves and feel that they could have always done better. It's not worth the agrevation to yourself.

I agree with #5550 - you got a nice deal on a great car. From this forum, I get that Californians are cleaning up on CRV pricing. Those of us east of the Mississippi don't seem to have as much bargaining power. I recently bought a 2WD EX-L (no nav) for 24460 + taxes & tags. I internet shopped and got only $400 better but when I contacted that dealer (who was a million miles away), they hemmed on the price. So, I was comfortable working with our local, very reputable dealer & paying the extra $400. Plus, the purchase process was a breeze. (PS - those that comment on the CRV's lack of power haven't been driving a 13-yr old Camry...for which I got a $2000 trade-in, BTW!)

I priced the add ons on honda.com. They total $1595.00 w/o labor costs.
My dealer charged me $2527. Which means $932/labor for installation of these items. Seems very steep.

I put down a $682.37 deposit on my CC.

Another reminder to myself why I usually stay clear of these Prices Paid forums...

Someone works a fantastic deal on a CRV and then comes here to question if he/she paid too much!

All of that stress over a few, and I mean a few, lousy dollars? Move on, life is short. Stress about the big things.

I sure don't miss living in the LA area!

You don't have to get the add-on from a third party. Plenty of on-line dealers sell the same Honda add-on for less, and the installation is an easy DIY.

Just purchased an '07 CRV EX AWD (cloth, no navi) for $22,859 ($100 below invoice), plus agreed on price for one dealer-installed option, dealer doc. fee and TTL. No trade in.

I agree with in principle of what you and msg #5550 are saying and that sometimes it's just not worth the time to haggle over the last $100 or so difference. However...

The OP is doing the right thing by "sleeping over it" for at least a day... too many buyers lose sight during these price negotiations/games and oftentimes regretted their purchase. If that particular CR-V is sold the next day to someone else, so be it! I am sure the OP can find another equivalent CR-V somewhere else at equal or better price.

While I am sure many of us value your "dealer" perspective, I question why a Seattle-area dealer like yourself would want to "avoid these prices paid forums". You are obviously one of the most active participants in these forums!

Also, I think it's okay for a potential buyer to advise others to not haggle too much... but for a dealer like yourself to do so is simply a conflict of interest.

I purchased a 2007 AWD CRV with navigation and leather interior (EXL). The dealership and I settled at a price of 26000 which included the destination charge. Additionally, I had a trade. The trade was a 4dr gl sedan Jetta in good condition. It's the basic model without any power windows or power anything for that matter. The best I could do on the trade was 4300$ so my OTD cost was 21700. I checked the TMV value for the trade and edmunds quoted a value of 4256 for the trade. My questions are: 1) What do you think of the overall price? 2) Is the TMV value accurate? 3) I feel as though I could have received more for the trade, What do you think?

Any response would be most appreciated.

    I live in Boston.

I got AWD (4WD) EX-L for $24,245 (including destination charge). Did I get a good deal? I also paid $1247.2 for the 5% sales tax and $379 for others (registration, doc, title, and plates). The only option I paid for was the back-up sensor, which was $697 (including labor). So the-out-the door price including the back-up sensor ($697) was $26,570. Did I get a good deal?

In NY/LI, I just got a 2007 CRV LX 4WD for $23,650 includes everything (TAX, Inspection, etc)
However Dealer only give me a Roof Rack and no other accessory.

Is this reasonable price? thank so much for your folks.

do you ask if you got a good deal "after the fact that you already bought the CRV??? Be happy with the "deal" you believe you received and move on.
I think it is amazing how many people post this same request after the fact. Why not ask "BEFORE" you buy????

I'd like to know if anybody has any experience with custom leather seat covers.

I'm planning to buy a CRV LX 4WD. But then, I also wish to have leather seats, which come only with EX, which costs much more (3K+) than LX. I really don't need the additional features EX (moonroof, 6CD, rear privacy glass, etc). The LX features are good enough for me.

So, I'm thinking if I can simply buy an LX 4WD, and then get the leather seat covers installed, which can cost upto $500 + installation charges, if any.

I could find custom leather seat covers on the internet, but apparently none had any reviews on them.

Just want to check if anybody has had experience with custom leather seats covers. Can they be installed (say, by a professional) nicely without spoiling the interior look, assuming I go for a color which matches the interior. How closely can the leather seat cover installation match the factory installed leather.

Any suggestions or inputs are appreciated.

BTW, I'm not sure if I posted this message in the right discussion, which appears to be solely dedicated to price.

    Thanks,
    ---Subhash

Well, I'm really close to buying an LX 2WD now. Looks like the OTD price will end up being $22,436 not including accessories.

I want to get the console that's in the EX-L installed into the LX which they told me than can do for $395 including installation. Is that a reasonable price or should I try to negotiate down?

Also, for those of you who've financed through the Honda dealership, what kind of interest rates are you getting? My credit union's interest rate would start at 6.5% with possible discounts but still over 6%. The floor mgr. at Honda told me I have great credit, so what kind of interest rate should I hold out for if I go through them? This is the first car I'm buying and I just don't want to get scr*wed.

We have the EX,w/o leather; your suggestion doesn't work. Could it be a programming change, or is it a feature on the EX-? Thanks! :confuse:

    Hi guys:

I wasn't planning on joining the new CR-V owner's club this soon, but my beloved 11 year old Honda Civic (180500 miles) gave up the ghost on Thursday. :(

Tomorrow, I will be picking up my new Honda CR-V LX ($22425 OTD.) Question? It's obviously been awhile since I brought a vehicle. Is a separate security system necessary if the vehicle comes with the an immobilizer theft-deterrent system? I apologize if I'm asking this in the wrong forum. :)
  • blueiedgodblueiedgod Member Posts: 2,798
Is a separate security system necessary if the vehicle comes with the an immobilizer theft-deterrent system?

No, you don't need a security system or the alarm. Professional thief knows how to disable an alarm even before it has a chance to go off, but it will annoy the heck out of your neighbors.

With the immobilizer, a thief can't simply hot wire a car anymore. The computer has to receive radio signal from your key for it to OK for the fuel pump to turn on.

I bought the CRV EX-L with navigation 2 wheel drive. I had negotiated a price of $26,000 at Honda World Downey via e-mail before I went to meet with them. I was only at the dealership for about 45 minutes and that was only because they were busy with other customers. Out the door it was about $28,500. I bought it as it and will do the accessories separately from purchase price. I'll still have it done at the dealership but I didn't want all of that added on to the price and I also wasn't sure if the DMV price is based solely on the vehicle or the purchase price.">
  • larcredlarcred Member Posts: 7
The $26,000 price was for the CRV EX-L with Navigation. No accessories added in to this price. The sticker on this particular vehicle was $27,800 I think. I had been in Sacramento to visit my sister and took her to a dealer to show her what I wanted to buy. There they were taking the sticker price and upcharging because they couldn't keep them on the lot. I found that at Honda World in Downey that everyone coming on the lot was looking at the CRV so I was happy with the $26,000 price.
