    Hello,

I am trying to calculate the real invoice price for the LX 4wd and EXL 4wd no Nav. Does anyone know how much the hold back price? I think the manufactory gives dealer 2% when they sell the car right? Thanks!

I have received the OTD of LX for $23500 and OTD for EXL $28300. both of them 4wd, in NJ, 7% tax. Doc fee $193 from one dealer. It still seems high to me.

It appears hard to pull the quote down to invoice (i.e. 22959) in Portland. Did you buy it? Which dealer? Thanks.

    Why would they do that?

    CRV's aren't distressed merchandise.

Not all cars have to be cheap sold.

    Hi,

I think I got a good deal for 26650/ + TTL for the above vehicle. The price included wheel locks and roof rack.

    Any comments?

    Thanks

    Is that 4wd, or 2wd?

    AWD (4wd)

I think that's a great deal! Which city/state are you in?

    Los Angeles, CA

Try Honda dealers in Riverside, CA area. They are way more courteous than the LA city ones.

I just bought my 4WD CR-V EX 2 days ago from Gladstone Honda's internet department, about 9 miles south of Portland. My first dealership experience was at Ron Tonkin Honda and they would only go as low as $500 off MSRP (and they were difficult to work with). The internet quote I received from Gladstone was $23K, about $50 over invoice. All EX base models had a roof rack, all weather mats, splash guards and cargo liner installed bringing the final price to 23,656. My OTD price was $23,738 including registration and plates and they were WONDERFUL to work with.

Hi, I'm a first time car buyer in the Houston (TX) area and I want to buy an '07 CRV LX 2WD with fog lights and add a center console from the EX-L in Glacier Blue/Gray cloth interior.

The price I've been quoted by 3 dealerships is $21,195 (MSRP + $595 destination fee) EXCLUDING "dealer installed accessories". The drive out price would be $22,754.96 (inc. TT&L, documentary fee, inspection fee, full deputy fee and dealer inventory fee). A salesman I met at a dealership has agreed to honor that price. I was hoping to get the car for at least the MSRP of $20,600, but the status quo reply seems to be that CR-V's are very in demand so they aren't being discounted. So I have a few questions-

1)How could I negotiate the price down? I'm not experienced with this and don't have anyone else who is. It seems like others are able to get a much lower price.

    2) Do all the fees they told me seem legitimate?

    3) Is this a good price for the LX?

    4) They told me $395 for the console inc. installation- does that sound good? I know the console is dealer installed, but are fog lights dealer or factory installed? I just want to know of those are already included in the price I was quoted.

    :confuse:

This is a really big expense for me so it's scary, but I really need a new car before mine goes kaput and I want something that will last me a long time. Thanks!

I don't think this price is any close to being even remotely good. Here in So Cal it is fairly easy to get a 07 CRV for invoice - without even negotiating, just getting some email quotes (don't know if it is any different in TX). If I were you I would start emailing dealers requesting qotes, only then I would take the lowest one and go to your closest dealer and start talking about the price - don't buy into high demand talk - 08s are coming soon and they want to move 07s. You might want to try some dealers outside of Houston, as dealers from outside big cities are usually easier to work with, Also, important thing is to negotiate not from msrp but from invoice. Bottom line is don't be affraid to walk away if the price is not right and good luck.

It is hard to get a good deal in Houston and pretty much impossible to get one at invoice price in the area.

After getting quotes since April, we finally just purchased a tango red LX 2WD for $21,839 OTD from Twin City Honda in Port Arthur. The Internet sales manager is great. He was very straighforward and did not try and play any games with us, and that is why we purchased from him. Others have had success with Baytown Honda, but they never had the CR-V in red. I can send you an email here at carspace if you want the name of the sales manager.

Also, we did not pay a full deputy fee. I've never heard of that one. You should pay:
    state sales tax
    Texas vehicle inventory tax
    license fee
    state inspection
    title
doc fee, which is usually only $50 in the Houston area (you may be able to get them to drop this one if you agree to handle the paperwork yourself)

    HTH

    Good luck!
    :)

First of all, I want to thank each and every person who has posted in this forum. I have learned a lot, and this is my first post. Like the person who posted from Houston, I am also looking for a CRV (in Missouri), and dealing with the high-pressure dealers can be a daunting experience.

I have researched MSRP and invoice, and I am also hearing the rhetoric from dealers that the cars are in "high demand" and people are paying MSRP. Yeah, right!

I read a website that said a smart strategy is to offer 5% over invoice so the dealer makes somewhat of a profit. That still seems like too much to me, since the dealer gets a kick-back from Honda for each sale. I'm interested in either an EX or EX-L 2WD. It's hard to justify $2,000 extra for the leather, though.

Any negotiating tips will be much appreciated. I've been getting vague form-letter e-mails from dealers in response to my quote requests, and the one dealer I visited was bluffing at MSRP. I walked. Oh, the game of buying a car! And does anyone have scoop on the '08 CRV? Should I buy now or wait until Sept.?

    THANKS fellow CRV consumers!

I understand your frustration with CRV prices in Texas. I waited for over two and half months for prices to drop but dealers in the D/FW area never budged. The best quote I ever got for an LX was for $20,600 ... and that's without factoring in the dealer installed accessories which seem to be on every CRV on the lot!

It's highly unlikely we will see California type prices (i.e. invoice) here in Texas anytime soon. You may want to follow up with 95ags because their selling price works out to roughly 20,300.

    good luck

According to the work I have done, and nearly being stuck to the wall with an extremely unfair price, I would go back to the edmunds.com website and do some calculations. Remember, salespeople will do or say what they need to do to sell a car.
    They are not your friends.

"It's highly unlikely we will see California type prices (i.e. invoice) here in Texas anytime soon."...

Anyone have any idea why this is?. I don't read here a lot of great "invoice deals" elsewhere in the country either!. We live in California as well, bought our CRV EXL way back in December '06 & paid $400 above invoice at the time when they were really "hot". And I didn't have to work hard to get it!!. After reading these few last posts on this subject, I went around to a few Honda dealers (3) to inquire & they all seemed "ready & willing" to sell at invoice!!... :confuse:
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
The cheapest I've seen here in San Antonio is $20,695.00 on the LX model. From what I can gather the dealerships here don't have a lot of them on their lots as they are selling well so my guess is that is why the prices aren't much below MSRP right now.

I purchased the 07 EX-L AWD w/o navi 3 weeks ago for a price of $25,267. Is this in line with the area??

I got a quote for LX 4wd OTD 23300. Is this a really good deal? It's still high to me. :( I am in NJ 7% of tax. Anyone in NJ had a better price then this? thanks!
  • slisstudentslisstudent Member Posts: 40
If only the rest of the country's Honda dealers would catch on to California's trendsetting ways.

Alas, as Alamocity points out, there's a very low supply of CR-V's on dealer lots - at least in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. As long as buyer's keep snatching them up right away, there isn't a reason for Honda dealers in the D/FW area to lower their prices much off of MSRP.

Alamocity also points out that location and competition are key factors. California is the place to be to get CR-V's at invoice. And it seems like the VA/DC/MD area is the place to be to get a great deal on an Accord. One buyer reported paying $3000 below dealer invoice!

The best deals going on in TX - in my opinion - are the Hyundai Santa Fe and Sonata. Not only can we get them slightly below dealer invoice but we also have an additional discount if use Hyundai's balloon financing. As an example, I could have purchased a Santa FE V-6 Limited with leather and sunroof for a little less than a CR-V 2-wd EX cloth. The offer was very tempting.
  • crvme3crvme3 Member Posts: 140
Thanks slissstudent that makes sense, if I would have took the time to think about it I probably would have come to the same conclusion... It seems for whatever reason Honda has flooded the sunshine state with CRV'S, as I mentioned in my post I go by 3 differant Honda dealers in my daily travels & they all seem to have about 5-10 of them sitting in the front row. I two considered the Santa Fe briefly but we went with the CRV mainly due to good experiences with Honda products besides the wife did not want to drive a Hyundai (CRV was actually bought for her) - go figure!! :)

  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,217
There may be some adjacent states that will do that.. But, I doubt Texas will.

Most out-of-state buyers in CA, have their cars shipped to them or have the dealer deliver the car over the state line.

I doubt you could save enough on a CR-V to make either of those choices palatable..

and it probably was a good deal for your area. That's the main point with new CRV's and pricing right now. In some areas, you get a killer deal and in others, not so much. But that's the newness of the CRV. Soon, the prices will begin to drop.

When I got mine in March, you could not see another one on the road. Now I see bunches of them and it's only 3 mos later. Guess they saw mine huh :shades: I don't however see very many with nav systems yet.

Checked out LX-4WD today in Western MA. OTD 22,900 included 595 destination, then add 279 for documentation (what!), 150 for RMV stuff and 5% sales tax in MA.
    Feels like a decent price.

The car has leather seats and a sun roof. The seller is asking for $13,500 in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I wanted to know if this is a good deal?
  • sealysealy Member Posts: 3
    Hi again!
This is just an update incase anyone's looking in SC area. Mike Patton of LeGrange GA is still honoring the OTD price for EX 2wd of $22,521 (excluding SC tax of $300). I got a local dealership here in Columbia (Midland's Honda)to meet that price!!!! I'm going today to hopefully sign papers. Will keep updated.

I went out last weekend to buy two cars; a Civic LX and a CR-V LX 2WD. After much haggleing I made an offer of $36,000 for both and they declined that offer. They came back with $17,698 for the Civic (sticker 18,355) and $21,171 for the CR-V (sticker 21,350). Are they just trying to get as much from me as possible or was I way off base. I spoke with a freind who used to sell Hondas adn he said they were crazy to not take my offer Any comments you have would be appreciated.
  • asearchasearch Member Posts: 20
Is the 22,900 OTD the final price or
    final price = $22900+279+150+ 22900x5% = $24474?
If it's 24474 for LX 4wd... this is very expensive.

The OTD of 23300 that I had was the final price, which included everything.

I am planning to wait until the 08 model comes out and buy the 07 model. Maybe it'll be cheaper? :confuse:
  • asearchasearch Member Posts: 20
the crv $21171 is OTD or selling price?
  • asearchasearch Member Posts: 20
I've read a similar website teaching people how to negotiate and should give dealers 3-5% profit. Ideally, it makes senses. However, in reality, it doesn’t work for 07 CRV. This model of CRV is the hottest model, and the car that the dealers try to make money on.

I followed the strategies; emailed, offered and negotiated… the dealer said I offered too low. They said if I didn’t buy it, somebody else came in next day would buy it for they price they wanted to sell. Then I walked out, and nothing happened. They didn’t try to sell the car to me in a low price because they could make money of it from other people quickly.

If the CRV was not the 1st year model, we could use those strategies to get a good price. At this point, I guess maybe wait for a few months. The price is going to get better maybe slowly. The price will not rise. That’s for sure. Btw, I am in NJ. So envy those people in CA. invoice price is acceptable for me…
  • sealysealy Member Posts: 3
I did it!!! Midlands Honda of Columbia met the OTD price of $22521. After SC state tax of $300, that will be total price of $22821 for a EX 2wd. They "threw in" mudguards and wheel locks. They did try sneaking in a 72mo/100,000 extended warranty ($100 ded) for 1662.00. I,m glad I caught that before I signed. Then they offered it to me for $898....I still declined. I did pay cash for the interior seat/carpet treatment for $199. My husband will fuss but after a long, hard baseball season, I'll be glad next time my son hops in the car dingy and sweaty!!

Yes, it's $24,474 after the doc and RMV fess.
MA sales tax is inevitable. Is there room in
the doc fees? I don't know. Also thinking
about waiting 'til '08 and buying leftover.
    Thanks. :shades:

asearch, you're definitely right. The CRV is just so popular they won't sell it for less. I've contacted about 10 dealers and they keep telling me that even after they know I'm going to other dealerships and making various offers. I emailed one dealer in a small town with a low offer and he said he already had bids from 3 cities for much higher and didn't even bother trying to contact me/sell to me again.

I'd love to wait awhile to buy a CRV, unfortunately my car (Saturn sedan) is 11 years old and though tt's been a very reliable car, I don't know how much longer it's going to last- at least without having it serviced and I don't want to put a bunch of money into it.

Someone mentioned waiting for '08 models (I've seen a couple people mention that) to get an '07, but I asked if any changes were being made for '08 and they told me no since they don't change body styles for a few years and that it'd be exactly the same- but I wouldn't be shocked if they lied to get me to buy now. I haven't read anything official about "'08 models" though; anyone know the real deal?
  • xquisitexquisite Member Posts: 1
I'm a newbee to the site and I haven't found a hit on here for San Diego CA but pardon me if it's already been posted.

Wanted this forum's opinion on an offer.

    Honda CR-V 2007 EX 2WD, Glacier Blue/Gray Int
    Roof rack
Running boards OR black side steps
    Cargo cover
    Trunk tray
    Wheel locks
    Splash guards
OTD $25,000 (my tax is for San Diego, California)

Any thoughts? I figure tax+licensing is about 9% here which equates to ~$2000 therefore the asking price is about ~$23000. Let me know if you know if anyone else who got a sweeter deal within the Southern Cal area. Thanks.

I am purchasing a CRV for $21,900 before all fees and taxes.
Now I understand they can really stick it to you with all the fees. What should I know about all the fees they can legally charge me? And of these fees what $ amount can they charge me and what is negotiatable.
  • 95ags95ags Member Posts: 7
Here is a list of things you should expect to pay:
    state sales tax
    title
    license fee
    state inspection
doc fee (only $50 in my area- you may be able to get them to drop this one if you agree to handle the paperwork yourself)
some states charge an inventory tax (I think it is also negotiable)

You do not have to pay fees like:
    VIN etching
dealer prep (or just about anything that says dealer in front of it)
    advertising fees
    port fees

If you call your tax office and give them the selling price, then they will tell you how much you should pay for ttl.

    HTH :)
