At Castle Honda, we made an offer on the price sans tax & title at 20,300 for the 2006 CRV EX 2WD. The manager came back with 20,400, if we bought today. We were sold. After all the rebates and taxes, the total came to around 22,000. Granted 2007 vehicles are just around the corner. Even gave us a better trade in than we expected for our 1999 Nissan GXE.

8/18/2006 - Dealer quoted $19,500 including $550 Destination over Internet to my request through Edmunds. Doc Fee $45, Bases for calculating Taxes $19,545, Taxes $1,514.74 (7.75%), License $127, Registration/ Transfer/ Tilting $64, Tire $8.75 = $21,259.49 Cash OTD. No accessories. Including half-hour test drive, took 2.5 hours. Wife is primary driver and she is very happy. Thank you to all on this forum. I figure our price is $3,550 under MSRP or $2,550 under Dealer Invoice. Good luck to all. :)

    Hi everybody,
Wanted to throw my 2 cents in since I've gotten so much valuable info from these postings. Recently purchased a black CR-V SE in OK. The only dealer options were wheel locks, cargo mat, and splash guards. I didn't have a trade so my price was just the pure purchase price. Sale price ended up being $23,400 which I negotiated to include the honda accessory console armrest (I'd highly recommend by the way). They said the armrest goes for about $250 or so if bought separately. I imagine I could have gotten $23,250 or better without the armrest. This price is before any tax, tag, title, dealer processing fee, etc. Hope this helps :-)

    Hi,

I am also in the market for the CRV EX 2WD. Was your 2WD or 4WD?

    Thanks!

"$3,550 under MSRP or $2,550 under Dealer Invoice."

    It's a 2wd.

Thank you for your reply. I have another question for everyone input. Should I go to the dealership and get the car right now or just wait until the Labor Day weekend to get a better deal? I think the Honda Clearance event will go on till 9/5/06. Does that mean that that's the specials for the Labor Day sale? Thanks in advance for all your inputs.

I would go before the end of the month. I don't know about honda but most dealerships are paid bonuses based on the monthly sales. Because of this the last day or two are the ones they are most under the gun to make numbers.
  • hddvdpchddvdpc Member Posts: 2
Right. It's a 2WDR. Also, no trade in to confuse the negotiation.

Just got from Boch Honda in Norwood, MA: $23,100 MSRP, paid $19,500 + $298 doc fee + 5% tax + $86 reg. DId the 60 mth loan at 4.9% too.

The F&I guy was a PIA (we actually got up,left and went home because of him, sales mgr called next day)but everyone else was great.

We had the 2003 CRV LX on lease (ending Jan 2007) which they took off hands.

Who did you buy the vehicle from? Do you have the salesman that was helping you. I am interested in getting one too..

    Thanks

Thanks to everyone who has shared their information - this is such a great resource. I'm ready to buy a LX 2WD in East Tennessee and was curious what price I should start bargaining up from. It appears that some folks have gotten a 2WD LX for about $18k (without TTL) and a few folks for less than that. I've emailed about 5 local dealers for quotes and the lowest has been $19,000, and I know I should be able to do better than that.

Should I start at $17,800 and work up from there? Any advice would be appreciated since this will be my first time buying a new car. Thanks in advance.

Purchased at Gilman Honda SW yesterday evening. However, vehicle has to be delivered from San Antonio Gilman, as no more 2wd models were available in Houston.

    $22,156 OTD
$20,362 was the price before TT&L.

Gilman SW actually matched a quote from Lake Jackson Honda. Overall, I preferred the service and sales person at Lake Jackson. However, we also had a trade-in that complicated everything considerably. Lake Jackson insulted us with there offer on the trade-in. Gilman was higher by $1800, but I had to work for 10 days before I was able to get them there.

Also, very important info for people with a trade-in: Appraisals from Edmunds, KBB, and NADA, were worthless as tools to influence or guage what the dealers might give you for a trade-in. The dealers all have give the same line when you bring these appraisals to their attention, "Those are for your information purposes only." The appraisals were generally $1500 to $2500 higher than what the dealers will appraise a vehicle for.

What finally gave me an accurate market value appraisal for our trade-in vehicle was taking it to CARMAX and telling them we were interested in selling it. They appraise the vehicle and give you a print out of it. The CARMAX appraisal was within $200 of the dealers and finally confirmed for me that the trade-in value we were offered at Gilman SW was reasonable and fair. Took about 30 minutes of our time and there is no push to buy from them. You can take your free appraisal and leave with no hassles what so ever.

Hope this is helpful to people. Good luck on anyone considering a purchase!

Thats because they use FAIR or GOOD but not EXCELLENT on there assessment. Also most people may think that there car or truck is in better condition than it is. I just had better luck just reasently trading in toward my 06 CRV I had all that you mentioned with Edmunds the highest and KBB the lowest with a differance of $2000. The first dealer gave me a insult quote I walked 1 hour later the second dealer after only 20 min offered me $300 less than I would settle for ( $1500 over KBB). I got in my car and drove out the lot and heard some yelling figured I left my cell phone behind but it was the sales manager running saying OK lets do it. Remember 90% of people who leave the dealership never come back due to not eating crow or finding a better deal. The 10% have too or dont mind a little crow.>>> M

KBB is low. Sorry, but I know that KBB value, even private party is way low on vehicle. For one thing, it doesnt' even give credit for ESP. My vehicle is very rare- an '03 Jetta TDI wagon GLS 5 speed. It is loaded, from heated leather seats, monsoon, moonr roof, mint condition! KBB says $14K tops, these things are fetching up to $19000 used! KBB says trade in is a little over $10K, but NADA says the dealer cab get $19K for it!I guess there is a market for a station wagon that gets 50mpg.
Don't let the dealer rip you off....

hi every one, i was offered a quote of $22250 on an EX and $23835 on an SE. Can do better than these price? Please let me known i'm trying to get one them before the next month.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
Was Gilman $1800.00 higher on the CRV or what they gave you on a trade in? I have spoken with the Gilman dealership here in San Antonio and they quoted me $19,200.00 for the LX model (automatic) and Reliance quoted me $18,550.00 for the LX so that is why I'm interested in whether that was for the trade in or the price of the EX model.
  • bullfrog34bullfrog34 Member Posts: 20
I paid $23,320 for an SE at Washington (PA) Honda a little over a month ago. The other Pittsburgh area dealers were higher than this - I negotiated for about 2 weeks and wasn't able to do better. You can see my earlier post right around July 14th for the full details of the deal.
  • chazzumchazzum Member Posts: 13
I'm in Philly and got a '06 CR-V SE for $23,195 doing internet quotes. Easiest transaction I ever had buying a new car. This was on 8/9/06. Over on the CR-V forums at hondasuv.com one guy in Southern California got an SE for $22,150. It could be that the Pittsburgh market is tighter or that the '06 V's are becoming in short supply or that folks have seen the '07 looks like a station wagon and demand is now up on the remaining '06 that are still out there or just some combo of these market forces. $23,835 just seems too high; I think you can do better.
  • dclark2dclark2 Member Posts: 91
When someone says they got an 06 CRV SE for $23,195, does that price also include shipping, or are you quoting the cost of the car BEFORE paying $550 shipping?
  • jerseydeviljerseydevil Member Posts: 16
The $23,100 I paid in June was after the $550 shipping.
  • ramkykramkyk Member Posts: 2
Just got a CR-V LX 4WD for $18474 + 595 + 100 Proc + 5%tax + Reg + Title. Lowest internet quote was from Herson Honda, but another dealer matched it.
  • steven5steven5 Member Posts: 17
Gilman ended up being $1800 higher on the trade-in. I got the better quote on the CRV from Reliance, however, Gilman SW matched it.
  • ralph9ralph9 Member Posts: 88
Checking the inventory of two large Honda dealers in Denver there are 70 2006 CRV's available. I would think that it is a buyer's market as some potential customers are waiting for the 2007 completely restyled vehicle.
  • pupkinpupkin Member Posts: 5
I requested CR-V quotes online from different Honda dealers in Boston area, and now got emails from 2 different persons at 2 different dealers (Honda Cars of Boston and Cambridge Honda) but from the same email address, inlm_email@ahmdealer.com! Any idea on what that could mean and whether I should continue negotiating with either of those? Thanks!
  • jmurman42jmurman42 Member Posts: 675
why not just go to the dealers web sites and contact them directly?
  • chazzumchazzum Member Posts: 13
The $23,195 I paid already included the destination charge. The only thing they soaked me on was the 'document fee' of $125. They simply refused to take it off. I didn't feel like driving all over creation to save another $100 or $200....I just don't have the time.
  • httporthttport Member Posts: 4
Just get the above OTD quote from a delaer without other added options. It must be bought by 08/31. How much more do you think I can negotiate? Will it be more reduced in Sep as 2007 will be in market soon. Thanks :)
  • jfritschjfritsch Member Posts: 958
If that Quote is 19830 with about 1300 in taxes and about 125 in fees for about 18600 bid it is lousy as many are getting about that much for a 4wd. 4wd is more numerous and better chance of getting a deal. You need to get at least 15-20 bids (if possible) from dealer websites to find the about 8-9% of them that may need to book a low profit deal at the end of the month. Emphasize you are buying before Eom. And are soliciting 15-20 bids. You want their best shot as you are buying tomorrow. Some flexibility (2wd or 4wd in your case, and colors) is beneficial. 3400 off seems to be average for Lx's and Ex's.

Really don't understand the desire for 2wd Lx. It doesn't seem to have traction control to help the fwd (its built into the 4wd xfer case) and only 2mpg better in ratings. The 1200 price advantage seems to disappear in many cases as people are able to get better prices on the more numerous (2-3:1) availability on lots. Especially when colors are factored in.

    Happy Hunting

Does anyone think the prices on the'06 CRV's will drop after labor day? I thought I saw where their current promotion ends after labor day. I did some searching and the dealers that have inventories on display have loads of '06 CRV's. My local jerk dealer has 4 SE's, but refuses to sell for below invoice (they want over $24K for them).

Having tried unsuccessfully in the past to buy a Honda (too much $$$), I am still in shock that I have a new CRV in my driveway. Events: 1. Cruised Lia Honda dealer lot at 9:30 AM and found only two CR-V's just off the truck the night before. 2. Talked with sales person and told him about $750 factory to dealer incentive and offered MSRP for the total deal. 3. Five minutes later, he handed me the keys to drive it and said "it's yours". 4. I got a Silver Moss LX AWD manufactured 7/06 for $20,300 and Honda low interest financing to boot. Total time: 1.5 hrs. start to finish.
Turned out to be one of the easiest vehicles I've ever bought (38 in my life, so far.....hehehehe)
  • dclark2dclark2 Member Posts: 91
Offering to pay msrp for a vehicle that will, in one week, be a year old, will make any salesman giddy and uh, yeah, I am sure that will make the sales process go real fast.
However, that is simply way too much! I just got a quote of $22,600 for an SE model. That means for just $2300 more than what you paid, I can get all the SE goodies, which include alloy wheels, heated leather, sunroof, upgaded stereo, steering audio controls, etc.
  • alamocityalamocity Member Posts: 680
I'm confused, you're saying that you can get a CRV for $3400.00 off MSRP which would be $16,995.00? Now I can't speak for other parts of the country but I haven't found a dealer in the state who will come anywhere near that price and that includes the fax attack method and information provided from other car buying sites
  • chazzumchazzum Member Posts: 13
This posting has to be a joke. I mean c'mon...any dealer would jump at someone offering MSRP on an '06 CR-V --especially when the redesigned '07's are out next month. My friend, you could have got the same deal on an '07. Well, you might have had to wait as I think the '07 CR-V's will be in short supply at first (much like the Fit is now). I don't think dealers will have any trouble selling '06's either. I was just at my dealership to pick up the registration for my new V and the place was mobbed with people buying vehicles (at 4:445 on a Tuesday afternoon). All the tables were filled with people buying Honda's...not just looking but buying. BTW, this was at Willis Honda in Burlington NJ.

In our area, Honda dealers are notorious for not dealing very hard on these quality, hard to find vehicles. MSRP
for the whole deal is a VERY good deal here ($250 below dealer invoice in this instance). I personally don't have time to sit around and argue $5 or $10 or drive 120 miles to get "free" mud flaps. And if you've seen or read anything about the 07, it's not quite the "utility" vehicle that the 02-06 is and I'm quite pleased that I got the last of the good ones.

I believe he offered MSRP for the car "out the door", including all taxes, fees, etc..

In NY, that would be about 9.5-10% off of MSRP for the selling price...

"I believe he offered MSRP for the car "out the door", including all taxes, fees, etc.. "

That is totally nonsensical! MSRP stands for Manufactors Suggested Retail Price. MSRP is just that. It doesn't include dealer markup, shipping, $300 floor mats or anything else, it is HOW MUCH THE MANUFACTOR SAYS THE THING SHOULD RETAIL FOR!
It is CRUCIAL to keep all the numbers straight! Failure to do so will result in paying too much. A person who leaves a dealer happy at paying MSRP is someone who is content in their ignorance.

Car stickers for $24K.. He wants to write a check for $24K for all costs related to the car...

I think he knows what he's doing... I was trying to lend some clarification for the rest of you...

I don't think he paid MSRP..

Reading these messages have been so helpful to me. Thanks to you all. I have just purchased a '06 CRV-4 WD in Putnam County New York. North of the city. I would like to say it was a big problem trying to find one and then dealing with the salesmen. They know there are not many of them left and are in big demand. I am picking my car up in about an hour. I got the color I wanted - Silver Moss and Paid $19,800. Honestly in this area I could only get 1 other dealer in this price range and he didn't have any and was unable to get me one. All other dealers would not go under $20,000 and some even wanted me to pay 21,000. I hope I got a good deal. Also thanks to those who gave advice not to buy the EW. The dealer wanted $2200 and I found it on Hondacare for $1,000.00. Again thanks to all for your help. There are many people like me reading your messages who you help with your great advice.

Hi... I guess I haven't checked in here now that the deal is done. Anyway, I would tell you the name of the guy we worked with. He did a great job, except the forum rules state:

"You may include the dealership name, city and state in your post. Please do not post names of salespeople, telephone numbers, email addresses, or other contact information..."

So I can't tell you his name. Just call the dealer and ask for the Internet department, or use Google to search for Autowest Fremont, and send an email through the web page. BTW you can also check the inventory online!

    Good luck,

I can only get the price of 19,640 for CR-V LX 4WD, the dealer will not reduce the price anymore, so the total OTD is very close to 19,950. I think it's the best one I can get. I called more than 10 dealers here. I really cannot undertand how you guys can get it with OTD <20k. Actually, the above one is the quote I get from our local dealer. Althoug it is end of month, they seems not worrying about their sales at all. Will it be more cheaper in Labor day? Thanks :)
  • schweitzschweitz Member Posts: 3
I just brought home a new 06 CRV EX AT AWD. 21500 + tax. I got quotes from every honda dealer along the front range. The local dealer in Colo. Springs ended up matching the best price I received. I am very pleased with how the internet pricing game worked.
  • liangwwliangww Member Posts: 5
    price:19,640

Actually, one dealer also give me a quote of 21.5k for EX 4WD as they don't LX in stock. But I refused it as it is out of budget. I think it shoud be a fair price. I am wondering if it will be any promotion in the labday next week.
  • liangwwliangww Member Posts: 5
A dealer told me he could offer me 20,650(just the price)for LX 4WD and called it a great deal?!! in PA.
  • love_crvlove_crv Member Posts: 3
Well, 2 weeks ago I got a quote for 2006 CR-V LX 4WD as below:

    $17,955.00* + $550.00 (destination & handling) + $49.00 (Dealer processing fee) = $18,554.00*
    + $927.70 (5% MD sales tax) + $195.00 (2yr new MD tags with lien recordered) = $19,676.70.

It was from Sport Honda. Not sure it's still good though.
