The Tires (265-70-18) were rotated. They were in the rear. Still they shouldn't worn out @10K. The Michelins in my prior SUV lasted for 50K and then some. It's too bad they don't produce those same sizes as of yet.

And no I don't burn rubber or drive like a maniac. Although I may have lead foot. No excuse.

Pressure is fine on the tires but the tire warning lights are still on.

One has to assume that the trucks now coming out of the factory no longer need the work described in the TSB. Obviously it would be much less costly for Nissan to modify the headliner installation procedure at the factory than to pay a dealer to make the modification on each truck afterwards. Besides that, they would have better control over the quality of the work at the factory as in theory the factory worker who installs the headliners is an "expert" at it...at least we hope he or she is! On this forum in the past there was considerable speculation that there was a design problem with the roof. However, the TSB implies that the problem is merely the headliner needing to be more firmly attached to the roof so the headliner does not move around as much. I'd be interested in hearing from owners who have the TSB performed and if they are satisfied with the outcome. I seem to recall someone mentioning that they had the work done, but that it did not help at all. Hopefully that's because the technician did not correctly implement what is a relatively complex TSB, rather than the TSB being insufficient.

Galvang, one of my friends has the same tires on his Lincoln Navigator. At 33K miles they are wearing fine...looks like he will get 40-50K miles out of them. For them to wear out in 10K miles, if you are not driving them extremely hard, something must be wrong with your truck. Are you sure you don't have an alignment problem or something similar?

Live in an area of Northern VA near WV. Our home is on a dirt road. One end of it washes out badly when it rains hard and VDOT doesn't do much to maintain.
While I've only had the Armada less than a week and about 275 miles, I've taken out the rough end of the road a couple times with no shakes or rattles, other than my keys and Kubaton key holder holder banging against the dash. Have also taken it on some rough paved roads, hit a few pot holes and no problems.

This weekend, will take it to the GW National Forest and give it a real off road test. Have to be careful as my SO has threatened me with all kinds of bad things if I scratch it. But, I think I can find plenty of bumps, some lose gravel, a few rocks, and likely some mud to give it a nice test. No rock crawling or anything like that. Unfortunately, the Forest Service has closed some roads that used to be my favorites. Guess the trucks were doing too much damage to them.

I've been reading on this site that Nissan has been designing "parts" for the fix? The TSB is just epoxy which everyone that has posted with this done has said it doesn't fix anything. Luckily I don't have the problem, I do notice that my ears pop once in awhile but I think that if I didn't know about the issue I wouldn't even notice it. I would however have the fix done if it would stiffen the headliner so that the overhead didn't shake so much and make video easier to watch.
  • adjmcloonadjmcloon Member Posts: 70
I noticed that there's nothing attached to the roof in the way of sound deadener according to the TSB and my basic "knock" test. I'm going to have dynamat applied to the roof, because if you'll tap on it, you'll see it's nothing but resonant metal. The dynamat should kill any sound from the roof; as for the flex causing pressure modulations in the cabin, hopefully the glue will fix it up. I also have some dynamat extremeliner that the dealer is going to insert between the headliner and roof. Amazingly, my dealer said they had no problem applying the extra stuff for me.

I'll let you all know how it goes. My Armada goes in for the fix on May 29th.

My dealer swears there is no TSB out for the roof fix. The manager said he would call me when and if it came out. I emailed nissan a few days ago and asked why there isn't since my baby's twin (QX56) does have one out... no response from either...

Update: I have to have all four window regulators replaced as well as the rear cargo window weather seal and my front passenger seatback. While I am grateful to not dish out a penny for rentals or repairs, having the dealer in the shop four times in three months is too much. Every fix seems to bring out another problem, and I'm not that picky of a customer... I haven't reported the mildew smell coming from my AC nor the flexing noise I hear every turn.
  • adjmcloonadjmcloon Member Posts: 70
    Offroadnarmada,

Sounds like your dealer is being dishonest. At the very least, it seems to me they would have to acknowledge that Nissan has issued a TSB as evidenced by the one for the QX56. They're the same vehicle!

Sorry you're having so much trouble. My Armada really has been great and the problems have been minor, save the resonance.

Had my first oil change last weekend but since I'm the primary driver I didn't notice this problem till yesterday.

For some reason the key-fob does not activate the seat/mirror memory. If I push the 1 or 2 button on the driver's door the seat and mirrors will move to the correct position.

I also noticed that the backlight on the radio does not dim when you turn on the headlights. It used to even when the headlights are in auto mode.

Are these related? Any ideas what these could be?

    doesnt activate the memory seat.

the backlighting is set with the interior lighting controls.
  • llajumpvidllajumpvid Member Posts: 76
Bowke, are you saying the key fob isn't suppose to activate the memory? If so that is wrong, it can be programmed to. Even then though mine only work half the time. It is rather irritating that every other time I get in I have to move the seat up. I can't figure out why, it seems to work in the morning but after that it forgets..I wonder how long before the seat motor burns out from the constant use.....
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
move without you in it...thats if someone else uses it.

it also has the easy entry/exit function. you arent confusing the 2 are you?
  • rshershe Member Posts: 236
the key fobs can be programmed to set the seat to the memory positions.. You have to hit the set button, push the memory location (1 or 2) then hit the unlock button on the particular key fob you want to program... Works like a charm...

On the other hand I have had problems with the buttons on the door.. Sometimes I hit the button and it does nothing. Then I try to manually adjust it and it will allow the seat to adjust up and down, but not forward/back and won't allow the seat back to adjust... I shut the car off an turn back on and it works fine. I was wondering if it is a safety thing so you can adjust while driving???
  • llajumpvidllajumpvid Member Posts: 76
The way I understand that it is suppose to work is that it slides back when you exit and when you unlock with the FOB, depending on which number it is programed to (memory 1 or 2), it slides forward to that preset when the key is inserted in the ignition? Is that not how it is suppose to work? Mine slides back on exit and most of the time does not slide forward when I insert the key.....perhaps I need to re-read the manual but that is also what the sales guy said when I took delivery?????
  • llajumpvidllajumpvid Member Posts: 76
rshe, mine allows me to manual adjust moving or not. Now the memory buttons work randomly when I get in and never when I'm moving....

I know alot of people read these forums/post and are scared away by the repeat negative post.I just don't want people to think these aren't excellent trucks. I was one of those people and I'm glad I purchased this truck and didn't listen to all the negatives. If you get the chance to test drive it do it with an open mind and don't look for faults just enjoy the ride, I'm sure you will love it. I purchased the Deep Water Blue SE model and have taken several long trips to San Francisco(Go9ERS)and LA,and San Deigo. The only noise I hear is the kids laughing from the sponge bob Square pants dvd ;)

I agree with you. I have about 1500 miles on my Armada LE and love it. We have had no problems, no irritating rattles or other issues. I have spoken to two other Armada owners in my area and they are equally pleased. I do not doubt that some people are not happy (and rightfully so) but I do not believe this site is a good representation of all the people out there who have purchased Armadas.

I think potential buyers should test drive a vehicle and make their own decision. They should certainly drive fast enough and on enough terrains to see if the vehicle has a resonance problem, and then decide if it is right for them.

Just wanted to add to this Armada discussion. I have about a thousand miles on my Silver Le and so far no significant problems, although the brake dust is annoying I think I can deal with it. I tell you I am constantly getting stopped or waived at and asked what is it that I am driving and how beautiful your car is. I think the ultimate props was given to me when after showing my Mada to a guy that works for me this guy trades in his Honda Pilot with only 10,000 miles on it and not only does he buys a Mada but he buys the exact same color and model.

As for the radio light. It is worse than I thought. The dimmer switch for the dash lights has no effect. And all the controls on the center dash (everything below the radio display) is now dark.

Looks like my first non-maintence trip to the dealer.
  • offroadnarmadaoffroadnarmada Member Posts: 65
my first vehicle with mileage under 96000 ;) so im not used to the "break-in period"

I have 3600 miles on my baby. Her steering and suspension ( <- mainly ) seems to have loosened up. A lot. By no means am I complaining - she has become much more controllable (not that she wasn't to begin with) and her ride has become even more comfortable. Is this typical for new vehicles?

    Hey all,

Looks like Nissan finally released the TSB for the Armada. The one for the QX56 came out last week- I noticed today at nissan-techinfo.com there is one for the Armada. Requires a viewing subscription to view it. It's different from the QX56 as it describes "dovetail wedges" Perhaps the "parts" you guys have been asking about? Anyway..looks like we're on our way to a fix.

Any thoughts why the Infiniti TSB differs from Armadas? I haven't seen the Armada TSB but am referring to post # 2524

    is slightly different.

Special Ordered my LX 4X4 (Second row bench seat)Took delivery March 3rd. Only extra I did not get was DVD. I generally love the truck. Tows my Boat with ease and I can pack it with all my equipment with plenty of room to spare. Yes I have the rattles and Roof problems and lets not forget the rear hatch rattle as well, but that is for another post.

I am asking fellow Armada owners who have GPS Nav's if you are having any problems? As in GPS constantly disconnecting and the display going "Stupid" It's been to the shop 3 times and each time they try to fix it. The most annoying this is that the clock is driven by the GPS receiver and when it goes off line so does the clock.

First Time I took it in, one of the Techs actually told me "Well maybe you are in a weak signal area". I nearly lost my cool and reminded him that with the exception of Nuke Power Plants and Military Bases, GPS is basically the same world over. I live in South Florida so Mountains are not an issue.

Anyway anyone else having this problem, if so, any fixes from you dealership to pass on?

We have a 2004 Nissan Armada. Took it in to the dealer mid April as the DVD console was vibrating to the point where it was useless. This was on top of the excessive roof vibration. They said they had to order a part and it actually came back worse than before due to the "broken overhead console". They ordered part 96939-7S001 and they are now telling us a delivery date at our dealership of late May. This after escalating at the dealership. Tried calling Nissan customer service and they basically couldn't help us at all. They stated there was no way to escalate. Any ideas or similar experiences?
  • offroadnarmadaoffroadnarmada Member Posts: 65
I posted a while back but i dont remember anyone else mentioning this until fllarmada mentioned the hatch rattle.

Mine doesn't rattle, it makes a sound that reminds me of metal straining or plastic rubbing on metal. This happens while I turn, change lanes, etc. I have failed to mention this to my local dealership, mainly on account of hearing a TSB for it. I think that was a misunderstanding, but is anyone else having this issue?

On a better note, I'm up to about 12-13MPG! Good thing since I'm paying the same for 87 oct. that I would have payed for 93 oct. half a year ago...

I also live in South Florida. I have had a problem free GPS as has been my overall experience with this vehicle. I have over 7500 miles and to date no resonance or brake/rotor problems. The car is in the body shop as we speak to repair damage caused by me glancing a low (2-3 foot )pole when exiting a downtown Miami parking garage and damage due to some kid throwing an egg at my driver's door (left a noticeable half moon imprint). Now if I can just stay out of harm's way and learn how to drive this behemoth I should be ahead of the game. LOL

I put a deposit down on 4/23/04 for an SE 4x2 and read somewhere that they are not actually produced until a month after order. I'm hoping mine has the "cured" resonance update. Also curious if the premature rotor warpage and dash rattles have been addressed in production. Hopefully it is just a matter of correctly torquing the caliper/wheel and applying the dealer fix to the dash sqeeks.

Anyone have a rough idea when mine would be produced and delivered?

I've had no issues with my nav system- I use it a LOT too. Mileage at 6000 miles is averaging 15.8, I'm really happy with that, especially considering I do not baby this thing, it sounds too sweet for that. (See me in a couple months working 3 jobs to fuel it up LOL)My hatch creaks a little on extreme curves and turns, they could probably improve on the rubber gasket & bumpers in the hatch opening. I was at the Brimfield antiques fair today (shhhh...don't tell my boss!)and got a LOT of compliments on my Armada...I also saw a Infiniti '56, same colors as mine-looks real sharp- it was a new owner, they love it so far. Also got to play with the A/C, it was almost 90 today, it sure works great, i'm loving this ride more and more every day!

Does anyone know of an aftermarket intake and exhaust that will work for the Armada maybe to improve gas mileage?
  • 81trekker81trekker Member Posts: 51
Took our SE on its first off road adventure. Used a trail/road that's officially for ATVs, although trucks can use it. The "beast" did better than I expected, especially since it was not equipped with all terrain tires but the stock Continentals. It climbed a few short muddy inclines with ease although the spin light did come on a few times. It handled the rocks with no problems. An ATVer I met on the trail did not think the truck could make it through the deep ruts at the other end. No problem there as I rode the high points on either side of the ruts.
I did take a chance without all four skid plates (two are on order), but figured the transfer case could take some jolts and the gas tank was far enough out of the way. I did hit something on the bottom at least 3 times, but my later view under it detected no damage, or even serious scrapes. After over 2 hours of 5 mph travel and many stops to check out the road, we finally came to the end and took the paved road back to the interstate. MPG off road in four wheel drive was about 7 mpg.

Later, I took it on another FS road that was smoother but had many humps that make it drain properly. We went over the humps at 20 mph and the suspension did its thing very well. In my 98 4Runner, my head might have been hitting the roof along with a strong pull on the seat belt. I'm sure the Forest Service would have recommended 10-15 mph although there's no posted speed.

I have nothing but praise for the "beast". It continues to get just about 14 mpg with about 600 miles on it.

Having driven off road with 4Runners or Toyota trucks for the past 25 years, I can say that the "beast" is a fully qualified as an off road vehicle. 81 Trekker

After doing extensive research for a full-size SUV I decided to go with the Armada. I will admit I was reluctant to buy the Armada after reading all the negative posts about noise in the cabin. Also, hesitate to buy a vehicle in the first year of production, and first V8 by Nissan here in the US. Here's what I found.

My wife and I looked at a few of the other full size SUVs and this is why I went with the Armada. Sequoia is on the smaller end of the full-size SUVs and the third row does not fold flat. Not very comfortable. Driving was a little loose as well. Too bad, this was the early season favorite. Next.

Expedition. The truck was plain, with no great features. What do you expect, it's a Ford. It did have the automatic fold flat third row (which takes forever), but it was the prototypical full-size SUV. Drove like a truck which some people like, but my tiny wife will be the primary driver and I want something she can handle. Seems like everyone has one. Tough choice, but we passed.

Navigator. Who you fooling. SAME TRUCK AS EXPEDITION only $15k more. It does have more bells and whistles, don't get me wrong, but you will be buying this truck primarily to say you drive a "Navigator", nothing else. Moving on.

Escalade. Upper end of our range and couldn't justify on why I would pay so much for this truck. Third row does not fold flat, which is a huge feature for when traveling with kids. Would love to say I drive a "Caddy", but not for $60k, which is 50% more then most other full-size SUVs.

Armada. Design is funky, but different. Either love it or hate it. Friends have actually confessed to us that it has "grown" on them. One friend actually bought one after driving ours. I already own a Maxima, and I feel I should not worry about lack of quality for first V8 and first year model. VERY BIG and handles great. Tuning radius is ridiculously great, pickup is extraordinary (I think 0-60 in 7.2s).

I took the plunge back in January and never looked back. Have made numerous road trips in it, and no noise. This truck is an absolute monster, and it is different looking. I usually have buyers remorse, but not this time. It is bigger, faster, handles better, third row folds flat and more back seat leg room then the others, so I don't see why you wouldn't get this truck. Do yourself a favor, save yourself some time and get this truck....listen to Uncle Coconutz.

the V8 is not a 1st. the 5.6L is a blown version of the 4.5L V8 from the Q45, which has been in the US for over 15 years.
  • driftracerdriftracer Member Posts: 2,448
may resemble the Expedition, but the Expedition doesn't have the 32 valve, DOHC 345 hp engine, electronic stability control, etc.

I agree that a Navigator may not be worth a $15k premium over an Expedition, but to say they're the same is inheresntly incorrect.
  • gteach26gteach26 Member Posts: 576
is IMO way nicer than the expeditions. I've driven both trucks and while they are both nice, the gator drives MUCH smoother and quieter, it has a more powerful engine (300hp) and can be equipped with THX sound, DVD navigation, power liftgate, and running boards, etc. etc. It has a longer warranty (4/45K) and a much nicer dealership/service experience (at least when compared to the Ford "automalls" in my area). Is it worth the extra premium? That is up to you to decide.

The expy/gator relationship is very similar to the Lexus Lx470/Toyota Land cruiser... Toyota 4runner/Lexus Gx 470..Denali/Escalade..Armada/Infiniti Qx56...etc, etc... all similar vehicles with different features, attributes, AND prices.
  • adjmcloonadjmcloon Member Posts: 70
We drove a Navigator before purchasing the Armada, and I found it to be way underpowered, especially when compared to the Armada. Since the Nissan isn't considered the same class vehicle as the Nav (the QX56 is in that class) it's interesting to me how well my Armada stacks up against the Nav. Sure, the Lincoln's interior is better, but it's also a different class vehicle. Definitely not worth the $$ in my opinion when you consider the anemic engine, quality issues and hefty price tag.
  • shark715shark715 Member Posts: 382
gteach, in your post you mentioned that Lincoln provides a "much nicer dealership/service experience than Ford". That has not been my experience at all. I've noticed no difference whatsoever versus the Ford dealers I've used in the past whatsoever, and I've tried 3 different Lincoln dealers with the same result. Same nonsense, same runaround, same poor attitude of the people working there, same inability to fix my vehicle correctly the first time. The dealer I bought from could not fix a power window problem in three attempts. Would you believe the first time they tried to repair it, it broke again 10 minutes later, and when I immediately returned to the dealer they told me I had to wait another week until the next available service appointment??? Does that sound like premium service? What's even more remarkable is that the dealer has a award hanging on the wall in the Customer Waiting Area that they were ranked as having the highest rated service department in the region the year before. After the dealer tried 2 more times to fix it without success, I contacted Lincoln and they were of no help. All they would tell me was that I could try the same dealer a 4th time, or try another dealer. And to no surprise the other dealer could not fix the problem permanently. I had to send Lincoln a Lemon Law warning letter to get their attention, and only then did they get a representative out from Lincoln to resolve the problem. When I bought a Lincoln the brochure inferred that I should expect service on a par with Acura, Infiniti or Lexus. I've owned each of these other brands, and in my experience Lincoln dealers aren't in the same league, not even close. At an Acura Infiniti or Lexus dealer this type of sitaution would never be allowed to go on like what I experienced. I'm curious what your Lincoln dealer does differently than a typical Ford dealer.

All I can do is second your comments. My wife is short at 5-2 and has no problem driving the "beast". She also has rhumatoid arthritis and finds the running boards at a lower height than our 98-4Runner which
makes it easier for her to get into the truck.

When comparing it with others, also look at what you get in the basic vehicle like the backup sensors. Others charge you additional for these extras.

We took it on a day trip involving six hours of driving and she commented that it was the most comfortable vehicle we have had recently for trips. Like yours, it makes no strange noises. (It was made the first of March which may mean some of the earlier problems were correct.) I suspect we got much better gas mileage today than the usual 14+mpg. However, she had to sit outside Cabelas with the GSD with the A/C running for over an hour waiting for me to purchase a new pair of summer hiking boots. When I did calculate the mileage, it was over 15mpg for the trip getting there, including the idling time. Now has about 800 miles on it.

I don't want to be a spoil sport, but I've owned 3 Nissans and they all had lots of problems. JD Powers just ranked Nissan in the lowest tier in initial quality. Nissan is worried about the roof noise problem in tha Armada, they don't have a fix and they have plenty of angry owners. I'd stick with Toyota or Honda if you want a vehicle with a high build quality, otherwise keep telling yourself that the Armada is a great vehicle, you might even convince youself.
  • gteach26gteach26 Member Posts: 576
with dealers and cars in general tend to vary greatly. Just like with the Armada -- some people are complaining left and right about this truck while others are happy as can be.

Personally, I've dealt with Lexus and Lincoln primarily and they both seem on par with each other. I'm sorry you've had such a poor Lincoln dealer experience. It's funny though, because I used to have a Ford Explorer and that service department was downright gross -- from attitude to aesthetics. I'm sure there are much better Ford dealers out there, I just ended up with a stinker.

My Lincoln dealer always gives me lux loaners (even for small maintenance jobs if they have cars available) and bend over backwards to help. They still screw up at times but overall I'm happy. Also, though I love my Navi I've had my share of minor issues with it, but overall I really enjoy the truck.

Anyways, I don't want to hijack the thread with talk about non-nissan armada stuff so I'm shutting up now ;)

Does anyone know what changed? I'm assuming it was the platinum/silver dash.

An aftermarket air intake has been made by Trueflow. Check them out at trueflow.com. They have just come out with air filter and intake system. You do have to order from one of their distributors which they email to you. I plan on getting one in the next couple months.

Neighbor of mine has been putting them in most of his vehicles and he says provides 1-2 mpg increase.

I would assume the scheme they are talking about is the Burnt pumpkin exterior with the Tan/gray interior. Blech!
  • shark715shark715 Member Posts: 382
Wow, the Business Week article is an indication that your average car shopper is going to hear about the problems with the Armada, Titan, and Quest. Clearly one of the major reasons people have purchased Nissans in the past was build quality, even though it was not quite as good as Honda and Toyota. Nissan's reputation is going to get hurt big time, and even if the problems identified in the Business Week article are quickly corrected, it's going to take years to get their reputation back. It's a shame what they have allowed to happen. I have an '01 Pathfinder with 75K miles thats been virtually trouble free and still drives like new. Ouch! Perhaps it's time to short their stock!

I've been lurking in here for several months. I really like the look of the Armada and am thinking of purchasing one later this year.

My thoughts were that the resonance was possibly a little overblown....however, it appears it is a real problem.

Nissan was able to overcome the problems in their Tennessee plant, I hope they can do the same thing for the Mississippi plant.

I love the looks of the Armada, but I'm going to let the problems shake out before plunking down 40 Large for a new SUV.

I would be interested to hear from some of you at Nissan dealers to hear how the negative press is affecting your sales. Are customers bringing these issues up in the shopping process.

I installed my WeatherTech Rain Guards yesterday. Took me two hours, I was extremely afraid of breaking them or hurting my baby (these are the kind that fit in front of the window seal; removable, integrate much better than adhesive rain guards).

Anyway, started on front pass., ended on front driver. All three first worked great, look exellent. Tried to roll up the driver front window, it popped and rolled down somewhat. It has done this before (two other times, both "fixed") so I just did the auto-roll back up. In the middle, and too late, I noticed that the window was IN FRONT of the weather seal!! My local dealer put my window on wrong for the THIRD time in THREE months. Needless to say, I heard a crack and noticed that part of my brand new $100 visor set had broken off because the window was placed on the OUTSIDE of the weather seal.

Someone tell me, is it typical for a brand new vehicle to be in the shop 5 times in 3 months? because I'm on my sixth now, not including another planned trip to replace all window regulators, a front seatback, and the weather seal in the cargo area which has caused a slight leak.

I'm very close to regretting spending cash on her... Anyone know anything about buyback procedures?
