OK.. I went out yesterday to buy a Ram 1500 Hemi.. Right now in my driveway is a Radiant Silver LE Crew Cab!! All you have to do is drive it. The looks? It is so different than the 1,000,000 trucks out there. This thing is as refined as an Infinity. I don't know squat about Nissan's but I just bought one for $1,000 under MSRP. The sales dude told me that if I drove it I would buy it. I am 6 feet and my wife is 5-1. I have the two remotes programmed so that when we push the button it sets up for each of us. The pedals, mirrors, and seat configure themselves. This sure doesn't feel like a truck.

Has anyone been able to find the subwoofer? The Stereo performance is not so hot.. But I'm used to having a aftermarket setup that will blow the windows out.. Now I have this system in my Titan and I don't like it...
  • gkatz1gkatz1 Member Posts: 296
I can attest to Nissan leather being horrid. My 02 Maxima look like a thick trash bag. Do yourself a favor get the cloth. You can always get a much better quality leather from the aftermarket for less$$$
  • tbeechertbeecher Member Posts: 31
I think that the sub is under the console. I really like it. I p!ssed the wife off today with it. Are you sure that you have it pumped up?

I don't see any flaws in my leather. I am very pleased. Time will tell.

My only gripe so far is the lack of a coin holder.
  • admastersadmasters Member Posts: 17
Funny thing that the lack of a coin holder was mentioned. Yesterday, my wife and I test drove the Titan again for the third time; however, the first time to drive one with the actual console in the middle (captain chairs). My wife noticed that there was no ash tray. We do not smoke, but she knows that we keep our coins in the ashtray in our other vehicles. After looking around, we also discovered there is not good place to keep change.
Also, was surprised to see that there were no vents on the back side of the console for the rear seat passengers on the King Cab SE model that we drove?! Is this on the LE model or only on the crew cabs?

Anyone or any Nissan Dealers know when the Electronic locking differential is going to be available with the Off-Road package? The only information I still can find is that it is "late availability"....
  • lizardking1lizardking1 Member Posts: 27
I don't here any real bass at all...Does yours pound? I wonder where the subwoofer is.. I thought the center speaker was supposed to be it. I don't hear any real bass at just a normal low power factory system....
  • phongluphonglu Member Posts: 1
    lizardking1,
the subwoofer is located under driver seat. I have LE CC 4x2.

Is it possible to get a limited slip rear in a 2WD Titan without having to get the off road package?

I want a 2WD with limited slip, but don't want the off road package (which includes the brake-activated limited slip).

It doesn't say anywhere on Nissan's web site or the Titan brochure. My local dealer doesn't have any Titans yet and is clueless about the limited slip.

Apparently all 4x4 models come with the brake-activated limited slip front and back, but the 2wd only gets it with the off-road.

    Thanks

Local dealer finally got a Titan in stock. So.....they got two. One was a king cab stripper with no power windows or door locks but had 6 disc CD changer, LOL. All this for 27,900. Granted it is 4wd, but 28K and no power windows?.....

Noticed a couple things I didnt like

    1) Interior seat fabric feels spongy and cheap. There is poor fitment of the seat fabric in several locations esp in the rear.

    2) There is a radiator fan located in front of the radiator visible from the lower opening and is unprotected. If a rock flies through it would probably break one of the plastic blades....there is no grill to keep objects out.

    3) The doors do not shut well. Seems like you have to give extra effort for them to close all the way. Also noticed that when I let the tailgate drop that the sides of the truck shook more than I might have expected.

    4) Interior controls are cheap feeling, esp those for the HVAC. In addition there were two seems that were noticeably malaligned.

I noticed something odd that I cannot explain. I watched the dealer rep back the titan up. It acted as if the parking brake were on and did not want to move without giving a good bit of extra gas. In addition, the rear end when he was turning seemed to be chirping and scrubbing the inside tire but there was no locking diff in this vehicle and the brake was not on. The dealer also stated that it did not feel right to him either.

The sub is awesome! I have it set at +3 with my wife in the truck and +6 without her. It pounds! You must remember that this is a first year truck so there will be some got-ya's.

My LE Crew Cab does have rear vents on the center console.

The doors are triple sealed so you do need to shut them hard. All I can hear driving down the road is the stereo and the exhaust.

I haven't had any issues backing up.

I'm in the market for a new truck and was wondering if anyone knows if the Titan qualifies for the tax break given to businesses for purchasing vehicles over 6,000 lbs?
  • aroutharouth Member Posts: 45
    Hello,

I test drove a Nissan Titan yesterday and was very very impressed. I loved the V8. I am thinking about getting one. I looked at the brochure and noticed that a sunroof is not an option on most of the models. Only the LE supercrew to be exact. Is there any reason for this? Do they plan on putting one in the rest of the models later?
  • keaneckeanec Member Posts: 349
Chances are they won't for a while so don't hold your breath.
  • gvoigtgvoigt Member Posts: 63
Yes it does. The credit is good for any vehicle that weighs 6000 gross when loaded. So I am told by my tax lawyer.
  • rivestrivest Member Posts: 10
Now that these vehicles are out does anyone have any info on climate control? The Big Brochure states that the navigational screen also monitors climate control system, but that is the only reference. Does that mean that climate control is included with NAV PKG?

    Anyone checked this out?

Also what does an electronic locking differential do? And what is late availability and why?

    Thanks

Motorweek on the Speed channel next week will test the new Titan truck. Will post when I get exact time.
  • twinbladesztwinbladesz Member Posts: 104
I have Motorweek in my Tivo Schedule lol will be glad to see a review. Its the same package on the Armada. The Nav also doubles as the information center I think, which I think should have been a seperate entity like it is on the GM's.

Saw a Red Brawn Titan 4x4 in Five Towns Nissan in Long Island today. Have to say it is a nice vehicle. Although that tailgate is pretty dang heavy. No running boards lol if I were to get it the wife would have to climb into the foot well then get into the seat. It had all the mechanical packages Big Tow, Offroad package, and had the upgrade for the 6disc changer. Sticker price $32k.

    Anyone see the show?

It appears their report is based on the Nissan press release when they drove a Tan LE CC, and later in Maryland a red XE KC(somebody's driveway?). This was all before November 13th, as they only could estimate MSRP.

I was not impressed by this report. While they highlighted a few details, they left way more out. For example they showed the 0-60 on the track, but didn't show nor report the slalom nor brake tests. Ironically while they are talking about the Titan, in the background is the red KC doing a brake test!, but distance markers fade out of the shot.

Then there was the ole journalistic bias. For example, they stated the Titan was a slice of the pie, and maybe more. But yet they failed to compare the Titan details to other trucks except for one comment: the f150 handles better? How about the Titan out brakes, out accelerates, more advance drivetrain, and in general is way more refined?

As much detail as Motorweek later in the show went into the VW Toureg, the umpteenth SUV, and at their own admission they basically just tested when they recently aired show on the Porsche V8 Cayenne, I don't think Motorweek gave Titan a fair swing at bat. Maybe they were afraid to actually report the facts as it would be embarrassing to the "big 3"??

I hope they eventually have a Titan for their long term test.
  • darbowdarbow Member Posts: 30
I saw the Motorweek coverage of the Titan and it seemed more like an overview of the truck than a normal in-depth report. I perked up when i saw the 0-60 for 7.2 (darn quick for a truck), so now seeing this i will put it on my list, along with the Subaru XT turbo, Altima 3.5 5speed, SRT-4 (pretty wild list so far). I like the XT RWD Crew cab with minimal options to keep it around 25k like the rest of my list.
  • triattriat Member Posts: 121
Add the tow package, & 0-60 drops to I believe 6.9!
  • twinbladesztwinbladesz Member Posts: 104
Took my wife on Satuday to test drive an Armada and decided to see how the Titan felt. The front seats were not as roomy as the Armada. Also this model didnt have running boards so getting into it for my was a bit of a challenge. All in all a solid truck. Will ewait until they have a Crew Cab to test drive to make a final decision on which to get.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
funny you mention the room in the front being less, since the 2 vehicles are identical from the b-pillars forward. ;-)
  • dustykdustyk Member Posts: 2,926
I got my first in-the-flesh look at a Titan today. Both were extended cab versions. In person it seems stubby in the nose. The instrument panel cover seems very long, too. The interior is very tastefully done -- to my eye anyway. It makes the F150 interior look bland, in my opinion. Fit and finish were excellent.

My only real disappointment was the styling. I was hoping it would look better in person, but it doesn't. The box sides are very flat and so are the doors. However, beauty is a subjective thing.

Oh, and the dealer said the first two Titans they sold were traded for a 2000 and a 2002 F150.

Although essentially the same from the B pillars on. Both my wife and I said the same thing. It might be a different story once we try a crew cab Titan. The King cab felt a bit cramped to tell you the truth compared to the Armada we tested that day. Plus I have to say the Cloth seats in the Titan werent as comfortable as the cloth seats in the Armada. The seats in the Titan seemed narrower in the butt area then in the Armada. I dont have a big butt either lol but noticed the significant difference, so did my wife. Leather seats were even better in the Armada.
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
one difference might also be the height the seat was set at when you looked at the 2...one may have been higher or lower. but according to nissan, the seats are the same also.
  • gkatz1gkatz1 Member Posts: 296
How could there be a significant difference when the front of these vehicles are exactly the same? I can say with 99% certainty that Nissan is not going to supply two different seats for the trucks with the same dimensions. I would have to say that any difference is psycological. I would check the adjustments too, it just makes no sense.
  • twinbladesztwinbladesz Member Posts: 104
Now why would I get behind the wheel of the Titan and NOT adjust the seats to the way I would like them? I did and the seats did feel different. Nothing phsycological about it. As was said numbers on paper might not reflect what is seen or in this case felt in reality. Like all the Mags saying the F150's 5.4L doesnt feel as strong as its 300HP rating but a 240 HP Seq felt more powerful. But like we've been discussing what 1 person feels and sees of a vehicle's interior is subjective. A couple who were trying out the seats in an Armada that was in the show room tried the Titan after we got out of it and said the same thing. But this was a cloth interior on the Titan compared to the Leather on the Armada. I do want to see if there any difference in the seating feeling in the Crew Cab compared to the King Cab Titan. With the Titan being longer in wheel base and overall length it should have felt the opposite lol. Its all subjective. Depending on what the wife wants do, haul more people Armada or haul a 5th wheel Titan will be the deciding factor of which of the 2 we would get.
  • gkatz1gkatz1 Member Posts: 296
This could be the difference. Sometimes the way the covers are stitched can give a different feel. I'm sure the foam and base are the exact same part # though. I'd be shocked if they weren't.
  • aggiemph1aggiemph1 Member Posts: 56
It included a pic of the XE which is officially my favorite, I think that the chrome in the other trims looks cheesy both in person and in photos. My choice would be a Black XE Crew, with chrome step bars and a fiberglass locking bed cover, does anyone know if any company's are producing those yet?

I also have a question for you Nissan Insider's, do you think the limited slip and VDC will ever be stand alone options? The Titan's safety features really attract me to this truck, I just don't want to have to pay an arm and a leg extra for 4X4 and off road package, which I don't need in College Station.

    Thanks in advance

  • triattriat Member Posts: 121
When my SE comes in, later I will order color matched XE grille/middle bumper!

I don't know of any aftermarket company components yet, but I'm sure it won't be long!

Future stand alone options are questionable as Titan is so new, but I would think by next model year if not sooner they make adjustments. I would also like to see the side airbags more easily available.

Oh, the colors in the brochure a little different in person. They all change considerably in different light. However you should obviously be ok with black!

Does anyone have any information on the expected life of the 5-speed tranny? Is it a heavy-duty box with clutch plates thicker than typical wafer-thin plates in normally-designed Japanese auto trannies? Has the tranny been tested for long-term reliability?

In another Nissan thread I expressed my disappointment in having my Nissan truck auto tranny rebuilt for the second time in less than 190K miles (mean time between failures averaged 80-90K miles). This appears to be the "weakest link" of Nissan vehicles. Two friends have Nissan cars w/4-cyl auto trans that had rebuilds before 90K miles. Possibly a design flaw with 4-cyl auto trans combinations: I'm not ruling that out. But its more than just coincidental.

I like the Titan. But the thought of a $3000 tranny rebuild sticks in the back of my mind. If an extended warranty is offered by Nissan on the powertrain, I would certainly consider it.

Just my $0.02 worth. What do y'all think?

If you drive a Titan - you are lucky. I'm glad that Nissan's first full-size truck is "TRUCK of the YEAR" almost everywhere I look!
  • aggiemph1aggiemph1 Member Posts: 56
    Reno,

I too have questions about Nissan quality/reliability, based on my experiences with my Maxima. It has been a good car (172K and still running fairly well), but it has been extremely pricey to mantain, and while it has never needed a tranny rebuild, it has gone through clutches and flywheels on a regular basis (for a while every 30K). My Max has only left me stranded once, but I get tired of those $600 trips to my auto shop, my Mazda 626 almost never needed major maitnenence and I beat on that thing.

Anybody else have the same experience with their Nissans?

I have a question about the active break limited slip. Since it is standard on 4X4s does it only work in 4 wheel drive? and how smart is it if it is always working, in other words can it help prevent hydroplaning at speed?
  • dirkworkdirkwork Member Posts: 210
I am not informed on the Nissan active LS, but hopefully its active at all speeds.

I can tell you that LS will not impact hydroplaning, that is controlled by road conditions, speed, tires, weight.

I have had a few vehicles who had sufficient power to spin tires at 55-60, and they had a lot less torque than the new Titan. One was a Honda Hurricane 1000 motorcycle, that thing would spin the tires in the wet at nearly any speed. Luckily I had learned how to ride in the dirt and mud so I was somewhat adept at handling it.

I have had a Dodge with LS and the nissan application of adding a computer to the system seems cool - again, makes you wonder what the big 3 were doing...besides cashing those big checks. I think the Titan will cause mfg's to greatly improve all the trucks, so everyone will win.

Any thoughts about just getting the XE base model RWD king cab to keep pricing under 25k. I am looking at the Forester XT, Altima 3.5 5sp but really like the v8 with this truck. I know its not 4x4 but with its weight it should be ok in periodic snow driving (live in South Pa.) any thoughts?
  • lrc250lrc250 Member Posts: 1
Does anyone know what the new Titan Insurance symbol rating is? I know the F-150 is very low, in the 9-10 range which makes it cheap to insure. I hope it isn't rated like it's little brother, the Frontier with a 16-19 symbol rating. That is one other thing to consider when comparing the F-150 and Titan. I'm trying to make my decision but the F-150 will be hard to beat with the X-Plan price, a nice rebate and possibly cheaper insurance.
  • aggiemph1aggiemph1 Member Posts: 56
I just read my brochure again, and it said that 4X4's have ABLS on both front and rear, which makes me think that this truck could handle the snow/ice really well.

I also have a request for you guys that have already taken delivery of your Titans to post some avg. fuel mileage, I haven't seen any real world numbers so far.

Also does anybody have links to the Titan's crash test rating? I'm interested to see how it stacks up against the 2004 F 150 after I saw the Dateline(?) special comparing the 2003 and 2004. (I guess they don't test GM's anymore since they can't use their dynomite)
  • twinbladesztwinbladesz Member Posts: 104
    LOL
  • triattriat Member Posts: 121
the Chev, Ford, & Dodge boards have some fairly lengthy threads! :)

Seriously though, every Toyota ever produced isn't perfect either. But from all the reading & research I have done into Nissan's engineering & detail on the Titan, I think this purchase is a good risk. For example Titan's Boxed frame much better than the recent craze of Hydroformed frames.

Rear wheel drive typically less complex, thus less likely to fail. If a component does fail, less costly to repair.

I also like to lower my odds with fewer expensive or structural options; like Navigation and DVD systems, or sunroofs.
  • triattriat Member Posts: 121
It will probably be a few more months before IIHS crashes a Titan. It took them 6 months to test the new f150.
  • tbeechertbeecher Member Posts: 31
I received 14 MPG on my first tank of gas. It was equal parts city/highway. There was plenty of 'punching it' to show off. I do notice that at 75 MPH the motor is turning less than 2000 RPM. Barely a purr. Hopefully this will translate into better MPG. If not, who cares! The gas pedal is addictive.

OK, I'm convinced the Titan is the truck for me. However I'm still trying to decide on crew cab or extended cab and 4WD vs. 2WD. To that end I have a couple of crucial questions:

Can a CC model with that 5 1/2 foot box be used to tow a (smaller) 5th wheel trailer? Are there any kind of box extenders available (something along the lines of the extender on the Subaru Baja)?

What kind of traction assist is available for the 2WD model? The lack of a full time auto 4WD system like in the GM trucks (and in the Armada) makes the 4WD Titan a fair bit less attractive to me.
  • aroutharouth Member Posts: 45
Just out of curiosity, I noticed that the pricing on the Titan is about 1500 cheaper than the competition. Is Nissan doing this as a temporary thing to make an impact since the truc is so now or is the pricing permanent.

Also, any bets on when rebates will come out? Being that the next few months are the time most rebates come out for different vehicles.
  • keaneckeanec Member Posts: 349
re: towing a small 5th wheel with the CC - Chances are you can if you get the sliding hitch for the bed. I would check with your local hitch supplier.

Box extenders - I think it was Nissan that 1st came out with box extenders when they released the Frontier CC. - They have a very good one for the Titan that moves on a track.

Model Options - If you want a CC than you don't have a choice in Canada - you must get the 4x4 which has all sorts of traction stuff.

I wouldn't worry about the Auto AWD function. Being in 4wd is much better and easy to do. My father-in-law has the auto feature and no longer uses it. There is always a delay where there is no delay in 4wd.
  • keaneckeanec Member Posts: 349
Don't count on any price increases or rebates. The Titan was priced lower in the first place so they don't have to rebate.
  • softstorsoftstor Member Posts: 13
On regular pavement, is there any noticeable difference in the ride between a Titan with the offroad package vs without the offroad package?
  • bowke28bowke28 Member Posts: 2,185
you hit it right on the head...every time someone comes in to drive a titan, i purposefully make sure i drive 1st.
