Does anyone know if the Nissan Titan off road package is shipping with the electronic locking differential? Initial literature says later availability for the electronic locking differential

Thanks for the report tbeecher! Any others? I take it as a good sign they are out enjoying the vehicles!

It's getting closer to midnight here so I'm off to downtown!

    Happy New Years everyone!!

by a landslide! Their words, not mine.

Just got my issue of Car & Driver in the mail, and in it they compare all the full-size 1/2 ton crew cab 4x4s. The results:

    1. Titan (7 points ahead of the F-150)
    2. F-150 (1 point apiece separates #2 - 4)
    3. Ram
    4. Tundra
    5. Silverado (bottom dweller)

Well, I haven't gotten my C/D yet, and I don't see it on C/D online. Oh well, I'm glad the Titan came in first, I'm tired of seeing Silverados that look soo cheap inside and out. Still waiting on C/D! :)
  • rshollandrsholland Member Posts: 19,788
Still no Hemi though. That's closer to the Titan 5.6. Granted, it would make the Ram even more expensive.

Interesting to note that the Titan's curb weight is the second lightest (check specs page here). Only the Tundra is lighter. C&D also mentioned this. I guess you can thank the alloy block engine for part of this weight savings.

To me that's smart design. I've always felt that extra weight works against you. I'm glad Nissan has found ways to keep the curb weight as low as possible, yet still offer a decent GVW. The prize here is increased payload, which the Nissan has.

the switch between the cast iron and aluminum block and heads saves over 200 lbs. for payload...weird, though, how nissan STILL offers it as standard AND its less expensive. i dont know how they did it...but they did.

Does anyone know of any published dyno numbers on the Titan. I think that Nissan might have sandbagged their numbers, and the Titan is putting out the stated HP and Torqe at the wheels instead of the crank. The reason I am inclined to think this is because how quick the truck is in the 1/4 mile, 0-60, and 50-70. I think they did something similar years ago with the original SE-R.

I would like to see a magazine dyno the Titan, Hemi, and esp. the new Triton Ford to see what they are actually putting out at the wheels.

I've driven both the new Hemi and Armada. On paper the Hemi is winner. On the road the Nissan 5.6 blows the Hemi away.

OK.. I hope it is safe to post MY OPINION here...

I went to the Auto Show today just to make sure that I made the right decision in choosing the Titan over the Hemi Ram. Well.. I was able to view them all in the same place. I must say that I stand by my decision. IMO the Titan is the best choice in this segment. These are so hot here that they only had 1 Titan at the show. There was a line to get up to it. I got to stand there and say "Yep! Got me one!"

I went to the dealer to get LoJack installed and they had a Smoke 4X4 there. I was surprised to see that it does not sit much higher than a 2X4.

OH!!!! When I pulled in they had just received a white Titan that they had put 22" aftermarket wheels on!! It looked hot! When I picked up my truck they had moved the wheels to a black (galaxy) Armada. It was stunning!

I live in New England and currently plow my business' parking lot with my Toyota T100 when it snows. I also have some small accounts and friends driveways that I plow. I was wondering if anyone knows if the Titan can be outfitted with a plow? I was told by one plow manufacturer (Pathfinder), that the new (2004) F150 was no good for plowing. I've also heard this about the Tundra. I understand it's something to do with the type of front suspension and I believe the Titan's is similar. I asked the Nissan salesman today if you could put a plow on the Titan and he said: "Sure you can", however, I got the feeling he wasn't sure so I called him on it and asked him if he was postitive and he back-peddled and said he would check with his service manager on Monday. Does anyone out there know for sure?

    Thanks

My Titan was in the shop on Friday for LoJack. I had to drive my wife's Dodge Caravan for the day. I was VERY unhappy!

Haven't drove a Titan with the off-road package, but a fellow on another board said he drove one with and one without right after each other. He said both his wife and he preferred the ride with the offroad package. They said it seemed smoother. Might have something to do with the higher sidewall tires and the Rancho shocks. I ordered the offroad package myself.

My wife and I stopped by the dealer yesterday to give a 4x4 SE KC ww/tow but no other options. Gave it a good half hour drive.

    Thoughts (just my opinions)

    1. The ride is excellent for a truck!
    2. The muffler sound was higher pitched than I expected - not sure yet if I like it.
    3. It has plenty of power (as others have stated) but when you floor it the VDC system kicks in sometimes. I turned it off.
    4. Hard to get use to keeping the engine at constant speed. it seemed to jump up and down - but by the end off the drive, it was btter.
    5. It handles corners very well!
    6. I am not sure if I am going to like the constant engine (muffler) sound. It wouldn't have bothered me if it was a low growl, but the pitch was high.

    7. I liked the interior - but I understand where others might not. It is more "futureistic" than some might like. My wife also really liked it.
    8. Contrary to other opinions, I liked the "neoprene" style upholstery. It looks much more durable than the traditional seat covers in my Frontier.
    9. Although the seats were very comfortable for my wife and I, If I was a heavy person they might be too small.
    10. A big blunder is the centre console opens on the side with the hinges on the passenger side. My wife tried too look in it and couldn't see inside without undoing her seatbelt. Bet you Nissan changes that pretty fast.
    11. Fit and finished were good - with one exception. The plate around the radio was bulging at the middle on both sides. I could push it in. Mentioned this to the dealer who siad it wasn't right and he was going to get it fixed.
    12. Another thing my dealer mentioned was the door handle on the outside had already been broken. (they had the same thing happen with an Armada!). Seems the handles and door freeze and then somebody keeps tugging until the spring breaks.
    13. Plenty of room in the back - but not enough. I am glad I ordered the CC.
    14. Didn't highway test so I can't comment on the noise level - although i am concerned about the engine noise.

All-in-all, I was extremely satisfied with this truck. I am glad i went ahead and ordered one. My only real concern was the higher pitch exhaust sound, but my wife actually really liked it. WhenI am on my own, the RFostgate will cover this noise easily.

The drive-by-wire throttle takes some getting used to. I can now start smoothly and easily maintain a speed. It was different at first.

I don't have an issue with the sound. I like it! It doesn't seem high to me. I haven't noticed any sound issues at freeway speeds. Then again.. I like things loud..

Anyone actually been inside a Titan? I'm wondering what the build quality is like. It looks pretty good in the pictures online.

The frontier, while it looks good on the outside, everything inside, from the leather on the seats to the controls on the AC, felt cheap.

In fact I looked at Frontiers on ebay, and even though they are only 1 year old and have less than 20K on them, the leather looks worse than my Eclipse, which is 6 years old and over 75K.

Anyway, I'm looking for opinions on the interior of the Titan.

    Thanks
  • tbeechertbeecher Member Posts: 31
I have a Crew Cab LE. I have no complaints about the inside. It is different (which I like). The leather is very comfortable. Some don't like the A/C controls because they are built to be able to use them while wearing work gloves. I am a little over 2 weeks into this truck and tell my wife everyday how much I like it.

I like the pricing on the king cab XE model, but it is irritating that you cannot get a big tow or any other tow package on this model, or power window option, or remote keyless entry. They offer a power package on the Frontier XE crew cab, so why not on this one? In my opinion, there should be basic tow package available on this version, along with power windows and keyless entry. This would make this truck hard to beat. As it is, you must order an SE model to get the above options and basic tow package is not offered. Why should one pay $ 800 for a big tow package if they only need to tow a 4000 lb trailer for example? I have never seen a tow package that cost so much on any vehicle.
  • tbeechertbeecher Member Posts: 31
It is my guess that they kept it simple for the roll out so they could get these out the door. I'm sure that the next model year will have a full range of options. Me? I don't like options so I bought the LE...
  • lesbaer45lesbaer45 Member Posts: 9
A KC SE with RF & Tow package. I too had a little bit of a problem with "surging" probably due to the fly by wire throttle. A bit more noise than I expected in the cab, I think it's the tires/tread pattern.

Overall a very nice truck. Does anyone know if the CC has power windows in the back? I assume those windows can be rolled down if not?

Assuming they don't have any unknown gremlins and hold up over time, I'd say Ford,GM and Dodge better be looking over their shoulders.

This was the only one they had, sales weeine claimed the dealer had sold 4 on the lot that week.

i've been getting a bit of the run around from my dealer about the date of my truck coming in. How hard is it to find out when a custom ordered truck is to be delivered? Is it a phone call away? I was told in the beginning of december it would be late december early january and they still cant tell me. Are they waisting my time?

Seems that the Titan can't get a fair shack..Ford F-150 named Motor Trends and now North American truck of the year and the Titan comes in 2nd place.. Now I think 2nd is not to bad for a first year truck but come on it's a better truck all around...I drove everything before I decided to buy and the Titan kicks butt... I wouldn't trade it for any truck on the market and I know it will hold it's value unlike the others....What do you guys think? I have owned my Titan about a 4 weeks now and love it...
  • tbeechertbeecher Member Posts: 31
My guess is that much of it has to do with advertising dollars. I'm not sure if the big mags would want to p!ss off Ford and risk losing he revenue. Maybe next year.

    Howdy all,

I've driven the Titan and it's awesome! Okay got that outta the way.

I was looking in the Titan brochure and it says the Big Tow package adds an extra 7 pin wiring connector for a trailer. Is this the same one that's on the bumper? Just curious as to where they are.

    Thanks

    Hello,

One reason I'm thinkin about getting a Titan is b/c I can have the satellite radio already prewired. However it is expensive to do it through Nissan. Over $400 which is ridiculous. I've seen the xm radio and installation kit for like $160. I would like to get it done aftermarket.

Can I take it into an audio shop and have the same thing Nissan would do. Is that possible or am I going to have to pay up and have Nissan do it. It would be like $200 more if Nissan did it.
  • joehoejoehoe Member Posts: 37
Sounds like Sirious has broadcast advantages over XM, last I heard...

But if the audio shop is worth a hoot - the difference in their installation won't even be noticeable.
  • joehoejoehoe Member Posts: 37
The LE CC I drove where had the nice factory running boards.

I don't see the option listed on Nissanusa. What package should I ask for when I order? I plan to get an SE... Are they an option for the SE?
  • twinbladesztwinbladesz Member Posts: 104
Are optional on the SE standard on the LE, have to see the Nissan dealer and tell him you want it.
  • dklaneckydklanecky Member Posts: 559
The difference between the FM modulated versions you see for ~$160 and the full digital connection from Nissan is significant. The warranty is also different between the two units.

Sound quality is better on full digital connection.

The unit's controls are built in to the head unit on the full digital connection.

The aftermarket can't make the connection to the cable on the back of the head unit and requires another tuner piece be added on somewhere near the driver.

I have one of each type in my Nissan's (FM modulated in the 00 Maxima and one full digital in the 03 Murano)and there is a noticeable difference.

If you plan on keeping the vehicle for a while, I'd suggest investing in the full digital connection.

If your the kind of owner that changes vehicles every couple years, maybe the aftermarket is a better solution for you because you can take that one with you from vehicle to vehicle.

I guess you could do that with the full digital one as well now that I think about it......

where did you see leather in a frontier??? there has never been a leather seat option for the frontier.

Never seen leather in a Fronty????? The SC CC has standard leather seats! (at least in Canada)

the frontier has fake leather bolsters on the top SC model, but still cloth inserts.

Drove a Titan today! The local dealer called me day before yesterday to tell me he got two units in. A CC and a Ext cab. The CC had already been sold but would be in the showroom for a couple of days. I would have flew right down but the weather here has been less that warm, so I went today since it was a high of 15.

I looked over every inch of the entire CC on the floor and then took the extended cab out for a test drive. I have one word to describe my take on the Titan up close and personal...SWWEEEEEEET!
It was every thing I had expected and more. The throaty sound of the exhaust coaxed forth by the smooth application of accelerator was pure pleasure. The Titan on a windy section of highway, rode like it was on rails, smooth and sure footed even given the slippery spots. In city traffic it was agile. It was nimble with brake and accelerator inputs. Turns were tighter than I had expected when putting it through a tight parking lot.

The only flaw I found on the CC was the drivers (cloth) seat. There was a pucker in the stitching where the back meets the seat cushion. Nothing serious but noticable...but I would have considered it minor and not worth having replaced.

Though the wife didn't get to drive the Titan because on time constraints (ours) she did like it very much. She noted the truck like ride but she is use to my GMC which is always carrying a few extra pounds which makes it ride smoother. And the Titan will be carrying the same load all the time as well. She also loved all the room and storage space, and the quick acceleration into traffic. She gave it her 'approval' so now I won't have to any more convincing that the Titan is our next truck.

Can't wait to get mine ordered...got a few months left on the GMC lease though.

Glad you liked the Titan! Nice detailed review!

What colors did you see and do you like?

I like the Utility Bed. I've seen it on so many Titan's now that when I see a Titan(or any other manufacturer's truck for that matter) without one, the bed looks empty. I saw the bed divider a few days ago-it flips up as a headache rack!

Has anyone seen the "Red Brawn" in person?

I like the "Sedona" but haven't seen a red brawn vehicle. Is it like the Maroon color - or is it a reddish brown?
  • rivestrivest Member Posts: 10
I read the online .pdf files for the Titan and its NAV system. Here are a few points I was slightly disappointed in:

    - No locking fuel door. I prefer a fuel door release inside cabin.

    - No daytime running lights, except in Canada. Does anyone know if the dealer can turn them on?

    - No climate control even with NAV

    - Nav system maps appear real limited on detailed mapping. Check out www.zenrin.com for details. I think I will skip nav system even though I would like rear sonar.

    Any thoughts or comments?

unless you live in a sparely populated are are excellent.

I have DVD version 6.1 which isn't even the newest one available on my 03 Murano and have found the information to be excellent.

Version 6.2 is supposed to be even better.

Red Brawn is very nice. I usually dont like red colored vehicles. This Red impresses me. Saw one in person If I get a Titan it will be red.
  • triattriat Member Posts: 121
at tow pkgs. It will probably be a few days before I swing by dealer again, but I can check then!
  • triattriat Member Posts: 121
Like some of the other Titan colors, it changes hues in different shades of light. It's not too loud. It's a very nice color. I don't like brown colors at all, just very tired of it, but the Sedona is a nice color too! The problem for me with Sedona is on sand interior, the tan interior door panels up against brown paint is just too much brown, and the graphite is a pretty dark interior. Definitely just my opinion though!

    ....but that red's pretty hot!!
  • aggiemph1aggiemph1 Member Posts: 56
i thought you would like the lighter interior colors since you live in austin, here in CS in the summer time my black max w/ black int kills me
  • triattriat Member Posts: 121
exactly, that's why I'm still waiting on a Silver with Sand interior. A graphite was in a couple of weeks ago and I was tempted. But I kept reminding myself of May-Sept!!

I had black leather few years ago. Just about killed me. Tinting the side windows didn't help much.

We got a couple XE's & KC's waiting for buyers here in Austin. You wouldn't happen to have any silver se cc's in CS would you? : )

Hopefully ya'll get better with coach 2nd year this time around. Longhorns almost embarrassing at Holiday. Not sure which is worse, ok season, or good season later shoot self in foot on national tv ?!! : )
