Dealer #1 was Clair Acura (Int Sales Mgr) - great guy, good deal.

Best price was at Boston Acura.

Wow does the car look nice! They also threw in wheel locks for nothing. All in all a great experience, just have to go get the floor mats so the tan carpet doesn't get all dirty.

I knew you would be pleased when you took the offer from the first dealer. Aren't you glad you did? This is one of the cars that I have been considering along with the Toyota Camry XLE 4-auto. Please keep us advised on the progress of the TSX. I am interested in how you like it after a while and what the mpg is. I did find the ride of the TSX a little harsher than some others that I have test drove. What was your impression of its ride?
  • iwantonetooiwantonetoo Member Posts: 86
I'm assuming you are speaking about Clair Acura in Walpole? I agree, the internet manager is a low key low pressure guy, the kind of person that you would like to buy from. I don't own an Acura, but it is on my short list for a new car to be purchased soon. Please let us know how you like the car, performance, mpg etc.

I am interested in a automatic, non-nav TSX and the best quote I have is $25,200 before tax, license, destination, etc. Has anybody done any better than that in SoCal? If so, where?
  • redkey1redkey1 Member Posts: 270
It is clair acura on rt 1 in Walpole and it was the ISM who I dealt with. They will email you a "no haggle" quote.

I have been babying it a bit to break it in (they say 200 miles) so I have not had a chance to puch it hard. On the test drive I did drive it hard and it responds well. the one thing i have noticed is how fast the car moves and how little you feel it. It is quite easy to go from 30 mph to 60 mph on a back road w/o realizing it. I would agree the ride is a bit on the stiff side, but it does soak up the bumps. Obviously almost anything is going to be stiffer than a camry.

I love it so far and my fiancee says that the inside is cozy. She likes the dual climate controls especially.

SoCal - I would say 25,200 is a good deal. I got mine for $25,500 w/ fogs and wheel locks. See if they'll throw in goodies (mats, wheel locks etc) to sweeten the deal.

Congratulations on your new car. As fredvh stated, I am glad that you bought it from the 1st dealer. I did not realise that the 1st dealer had actually located the car and had it trucked to the dealership for you. After all that, I would have stuck with them, as you did. The 2nd dealership sounded a bit like a traditional dealership where a lot of haggling might bring the price down a bit but will leave a bitter aftertaste in your mouth, after the deal.

    Later...AH

I'm interested in buying TSX w/nav in San Diego area. The dealership (Cush Acura) will only sell me for MSRP price. Does anybody ever received better deal than this in southern california?

I'm looking to buy a 2004 Acura TSX CG/Blk 5spd Auto, having been to three dealership through internet.
Best offer is $26,535 with accessory package (I believe includes mud flaps, etc) worth $ 314. I would like tinted windows and fog lights. I can't believe the prices I'm reading on this site, just wondering if I can get a deal that good down here in H-town. Any suggestions for newly divorced mother that might help in buying a TSX.
  • mulifatmulifat Member Posts: 26
Here is my suggestion. If you can wait a few weeks, go into the dealership on March 31, in the afternoon. Tell them you are interested in the car, and you are not willing to pay more than $25,500. Be prepared to walk if they do not agree. In fact, you probably will have to get up and start for the door. My guess is they will not let you walk out
  • kptxkptx Member Posts: 10
I will take your advise on that but what is the reasoning for waiting till March 31 (end of month inventory?). Is there a big difference on where you buy...that is different regions of the country? thanks!

The last day of the month is when dealers are anxious to meet or exceed their quotas for the month. It has been very successful for me in general, and especially with my new TSX negotiated and signed for Feb 28 a few weeks ago. I have found that salespeople would rather let a car go even close to cost if need be, to get the sales in the last day of the month. It really helps
  • ambientambient Member Posts: 2
KPTX - Just send email offers to the internet sales mgr's of local dealers. See what happens.

I emailed 3 dealers in the Detroit suburbs with an offer of $25,300 for a CG/Ebony/Auto/No Navi. I gave them a specific day that I would purchase if they presented the right offer. I've only gotten one reply back so far, which is fine because I accepted it. Acura of Troy came back with $25,500 + tax, title, etc. I called them the next day and said it is a done deal if he throws in the protection pkg. He accepted, we did the credit app over the phone, and I'm picking it up on Friday. It was quick and painless for both me and the salesman. That's how car buying should be, and can be if you're smart and know exactly what you want.

I've done a lot of research on prices, and $25,500 seems to be the going rate for a non-navi TSX. Either email your offer to various dealers or walk into the dealer at the end of the month and say you'll buy the car for $2x,xxx right now. It helps if they have the car you want on the lot already, but someone will take your offer.
    Good Luck!

I've been looking at buying a TSX for the last few months in Houston. So far, all of the dealers I talked to only quote me msrp pricing. Please let me know if you get a good deal. Thanks!

I got a offer of $ 27,153 w/tint windows & fog lights at John Eagle Acura off of Hwy 6 & I-10 and another at Gillman Acura (NI-45) with tint windows for $ 26,535. Not sure what the colors were but I wanted CG. Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.

Looked at at TSX non navi, and appear to be able to get something in the 25.5 range. however, all the dealers are asking for a "dealer Services fee" for processing, car prep, etc... ; they all say it like clockwork and claim all dealers do it and theirs is lower than most. The 2 Acura dealers in the Tampa area are asking for 399 and 499. I am also looking at a Mazda3 and have talked to 4 dealers for that car and they all ask for it as well.?

can anyone shed any light here? Are you paying this for your TL or any new car for that matter. no one above seems to claim to have paid it, but then again, every dealer is asking for it, so something has got to give.

    thanks for your help
  • ambientambient Member Posts: 2
Don't fall for the added "fees". They are pure profit right to the dealer/salesman. Check out carbuyingtips.com and they explain it for you. Just tell them you will not pay it, and if they say "too bad" then too bad for them. My dealer didn't try to add any fee's or pressure me to buy anything. There are good dealers out there...you just have to find them.
  • redkey1redkey1 Member Posts: 270
I paid $202 total, and that included all DMV fees including runner etc. Registration was mailed to me 2 days later and I owe the salesman a fax of my reg sticker reciept and he is going to reimburse me for that. $400 - 500 is ridiculous.

Just wondering if anyone get a TSX for invoice yet or very close to it ? Or if anyone knows when one could purchase one at around invoice ?
  • mcmassmcmass Member Posts: 1
I'm reading your posts re: what you've paid for the TSX. Is everyone buying w/o a trade? Only one person has mentioned trading. Seems to me, it doesn't matter what you're quoted if you have to trade, as they can make up a low TSX quote with a low trade in allowance, but no one has mentioned having a trade.
  • redkey1redkey1 Member Posts: 270
$25,500 w/ trade. A 2002 Jeep Wrangler - got $14k, which according to the "Real world trade-in values" thread on edmunds was a great number.

As I see you are in MA, I would advise sending an email to Clair Acura as that is where I ended up, their Internet salesman is great.

Does anyone know what the dealer cost is for a Honda Care 7yr. 100,000 0 deductible extended warranty for the TSX? Also, does any one know of a low cost dealer source for the extended warranty?

What's the best (and worst) price you would expect for this car? I may buy this locally with 4800mi.

TSX/non navi/Auto for $25335! I want to thank everyone's posts here for guiding me to get a great price on my new car! I couldn't have done the negotiating without it. I'm going to pick it up this Saturday at Wayne, NJ.

TSX, 6 speed, no options. On the road @ Can$ 38,512.15 from Sherway Acura (in Toronto).
  • jblaze13jblaze13 Member Posts: 152
I purchased w/ a trade. It is a more complicated process but doesn't have to go in the dealer's favor. Most dealers are going to pull up Kelly Blue book and offer you that trade in price (even carmax uses it, they may beat it by a hundred bucks or so). You'd better be prepared because KBB is typically lower than other sources. When I traded my car in I had 3 other sources (all $600-$800 higher than KBB). Since I knew they were only going to give the "trade-in" value from one of the sources, I pushed very hard on the price of the new car. In the end they gave me more than any of the sources out there for my trade-in because they didn't want to go so low on the TSX and they know the car is worth much more than those phony trade-in values. I knew going in during the day (no other customers) at the end of the month put me at an advantage (just as others have said on this board). Keep in mind that your trade-in saves you money on taxes. I was fortunate enough to get a good price for my trade-in and purchase a TSX at aprice lower than any I've seen on this board.
  • crazybabydoccrazybabydoc Member Posts: 32
A buddy just purchased a TSX from this dealer. For some odd reason he wouldn't tell me the price but he stated that pricing was "aggressive" and he seemed quite satisfied.

Granted, this purchase was 1)end of the month, 2)off the lot, and 3)motivated buyer.
  • jblaze13jblaze13 Member Posts: 152
crazybabydoc... I purchased in a similar situation. It was the end of the month, I bought off the lot, and I showed them a check and told them I was ready to sign it over to them that day. That situation can demand aggresive pricing from them. Aggressive to the point that they asked me, and probably your friend as well, not to post the price on any boards or share it with anybody. They don't want everybody coming in demanding rock bottom pricing.
  • crazybabydoccrazybabydoc Member Posts: 32
Well what's the point of a forum called prices paid & buying experiences?! Flow Acura has at least 12 TSXs on the lot, 11 autos (2 of those w/ Nav). The dealership ALWAYS has the option of saying no to a customers lowball offer. And every intelligent car buyer knows the unwritten rules of the road:
1)find a dealer with excess inventory
2)visit at the end of the month
3)make them an offer they don't really want to refuse (cash in hand)

When a dealer robs you blind, I doubt they tell you to keep it a secret . . .

The people that scour (or prowl) these boards DEMAND rock bottom pricing. We never pay MSRP and often get deals close to invoice while still buying what we want.
  • wsc4wsc4 Member Posts: 1
I am having miserable luck with "arrogant" Acura dealers. Has you found a good one and does anyone have any information for leasing prices on a TSX auto w/nav? Greatly appreciated!
  • maroon_orangemaroon_orange Member Posts: 3
Dealers asking the buyer to not tell others what they paid is just another ploy to make you feel like you are getting a great deal that no one else can get. The dealer wants to make you feel like he is doing you a big favor "just this once." It's incentive to make you sign the deal.

They will sell you the car at $xx,xxx.xx if you "promise not to tell anyone what you paid."

It's an old car salesman selling tactic. They want you to do just the opposite. They want you to tell your friends that you got such a good deal at XYZ dealership that the salesman said to keep your mouth shut about the price. They want your friend to come in looking for a car and that elusive great price. Meanwhile they tell him that that was a one-time promotion and work him over to purchase while he is there. Getting the buyer into the dealership is half the battle...

The average price for a non-navi right now is in the $25,500 (not including tax, tag, and title) range according to recent posts. At that price the dealer is making 9.4% profit (if you factor in the 3% Acura Holdback).

Bottom line, the dealer has a lot of room to play with and still make a great profit. The fact that this car is selling well doesn't help the buyer. No one is getting a great deal until the profits come down to the 3-5% range.

This is the price we pay for buying a car that is new and in demand.

    great post!
  • jblaze13jblaze13 Member Posts: 152
My determination of getting a good deal is based off of the information on this board, not a sales tactic. If I know that I'm getting a deal well below the avg. here then I know I've done well. I don't need to "feel" like I did well. I know when I see how much I paid. I had no intention of paying avg prices. I let the dealer know that on the phone before I go in. If I had a friend I would tell them to go to XYZ dealership for the deal I got and to walk out if he didn't get the same. Not everybody falls for "tactics".

I have been reading this discussion board for many months now, and I thought it wud be unfair to not post my experience.

I was in a dilema for the longest time, not being able to figure out if I should buy a brand new TSX, or a used BMW 325. Finally decided to go for the TSX with Navigation, and i am glad i did. I love it every bit.

I visited several dealers, and called the others on the fone. Most of them said they will sell the car at MSRP ($29035). Others said they wud dicount $1035, and sell it for 28 K. I wanted a black car with the parchment interior, auto with Nav. Nobody had it on their lot, and the nearest car was a 110 miles away.

I then looked up prices on carsdirect.com, put in a order & waited. Promptly, the next day, a sales guy contacted me. Very professional indeed, confirmed the color, options, etc & how soon, i could buy it. I said, i could pick it up in the evening after work. He found the car that was 110 miles away, arranged for it to be shipped to a nearby dealer, and i picked it up the next day. For a price of $27512 ($1000 over invoice). The car had some extra options in it, like wheel locks, a trunk mat & mud flaps. I had to pay another 245 for that, but i wud have gotten that anyways.. Although i think i got jipped a little bit ther, but whats $200, when you are spending 30K.
The dealer asked me if I was interested in the extended warranty, which I politely denied.

Including TTL, I paid $30348 out the door.
    :)

jblaze - I'm not implying you didn't get a good deal based on prices posted on this board. That was my point in the last three paragraphs of my post. Getting the dealer to budge from the Avg selling price takes some good negotiating. My other point is that the dealer has A LOT of room to negotiate and still make a huge profit. A good deal based on current demand and a good deal based on:

invoice price - dealer holdback - any incentives + 3% to 5% profit

are two different things. The later is next to impossible due to supply and demand of the TSX.

If the dealer tells you not to tell anyone what you paid, the dealer wants you to do the opposite. He's relying on human nature. It helps drive people into the showroom. "I'm going to XYZ, they gave jblaze such a great deal, they told him not to tell anyone." It's free advertising. They say this line to a lot of people regardless of the deal they received.

Also, if you based your decisions on and benefited from information gathered from this board, please share the wealth and help out the next guy trying to buy. Post what you paid and the experience of purchasing. Give back to the community, it's what this board is all about. And if you were able to get the second type of deal I described, then we all REALLY want to know about it! Thanks!

Just bought a black TSX 5-spd, tint windows, mud flaps, wheel locks for $26,500 + TTL ($728.00)A John Eagle Acura. Even though it was not my first choice in colors I'm very happy with it. Many thanks to the imputs I got on TH, it helped in my buying decision.

I purchased a blk/blk 2004 Acura TSX with Navigation. Options included in price were tinted windows, wheel locks, mats, rear spoiler. I believe the rear spoiler can run $799 retail. I purchased my TSX on March 30. I purchased with out-the-door pricing of $30,000. I purchased the vehicle at Mac Churchill Acura in Fort Worth, TX. There are 4 dealerships in the DFW area. Mac Churchill Acura was the only dealership who had inventory of TSX's. Good Luck to those who have yet to purchase their TSX. I thoroughly enjoy mine! I feel I got a good deal considering the current demand. Any comments on my pricing?
  • mulifatmulifat Member Posts: 26
Did that out the door price include tax? If yes, you got a good deal. If not, you could have done better, in my opinion
  • kapuskapus Member Posts: 11
It seems that the majority of the dealers in the Chicago area are not providing any reasonable deals on the TSX based on the dealers I have contacted. Most are trying to sell at MSRP or very close to it. I personally refuse to pay MSRP for a car. The dealer makes way too much money on the car at that price. I will probably look at other manufacturers rather than give them that price for the TSX which is a nice car, but not that nice. It is basically an Accord with lots of extra features.
  • mulifatmulifat Member Posts: 26
While I feel the same way as you that one should never, ever pay MSRP, I can assure you that the TSX is not just an Accord with fancy touches. My wife has a 2004 Accord, and I have a TSX. They are very different cars, and feel nothing alike behind the wheel. The TSX in my opinion is indeed worth paying more for, and I happen to really like my wife's Accord. Be patient, and go to the dealer the last day of the month. Offer them $1500 less than MSRP, and I would be surpised if they let you walk out without signing for $1000 less than MSRP.

Took delivery of ssm/quartz/AT/non-nav from Metro Acura in Montclair. Tried very hard to get it for 25,500 as others have posted, but finally paid 25,700 including destination and "protection package", and got full KBB trade-in on a 96 Volvo. Salesmen were pleasant to deal with and very attentive. Thanks for all the messages on this site, otherwise I wouldn't have known where to start.
  • zman21zman21 Member Posts: 46
Got my '04 Carbon Gray TSX w/ Navi and Pro-Pack for $27,600 last Saturday. KBB on my trade was $18,200, got $18k instead. Took a lot of haggling so I wouldn't even advertise the 'stealership's name' here :-)
  • jblaze13jblaze13 Member Posts: 152
Mulifat is right(somewhat)....you should wait until the end of the month to purchase. Call around first to see who is going to be closest to the price you want and go to that dealership. In fact, if you can get the deal negotiated over the phone that's even better. After I received a "reasonable" price on my trade-in. I negotiated a price of $2500 below MSRP on the TSX. Even though they only had 4 in stock. My goal was to get a much better deal than everyone else seemed to be getting (i.e. $1500 below MSRP). I told them what range I was looking for before I went in. If you go in understanding your position, what you're willing to accept, and are willing to stand on it, you'll come out in good shape.

Okay maroon_orange, I've given back. We agree to a certain extent.
