Sorry not trying to SPAM.. I don't work for easycare but I am in the car industry and know a lot about warranties. GMPP and Easycare have the most comprehensive coverage. Followed by any other mfg warranty. I do have easycare on bothof my cars.... but just trying to help out with info I know... since the big issue with everyone seems to be the wear and tear issue... My point is just get ANY mfg backed policy. With the shaky economy the aftermarkets are really something you don't want to get into... I know someone will agree with this.

I had not heard of EasyCare before the mention in this forum. From their site it seems that a private equity company has bought EasyCare from Ford Motor Company:

ACQUISITION OF AUTOMOBILE PROTECTION CORPORATION (APCO) FROM
    FORD MOTOR COMPANY

    http://www.easycare.com/files/easycare/APCO_Purchase_Release_4-2-07.pdf

So, they may have been part of Ford for a number of years, but now are not. I think I would stay away from this, just my opinion.

I took all of the Easy Care paper work I had in my desk and through it in the trash can about 5 years ago. Like all the other after market company's they are just trying to be as good as the manufacture backed plan. Thats why we sell Ford ESP and nothing else. With the price drop last year the are as affordable as any AM company with comparable coverage.

I have never had a LEGITIMATE complaint on a Premium Care Service Contract before. The complaints I get are always becausethey don't cover a wear item like brake pads, belts, or hoses.

Sir, as an f&i manager with real working knowledge, i have always respected your posts.
Though in a different industry but no so dis-similar I will offer my my humble opinion that insurance follows a bell curve. For the minority , great crap will happen and your extended warranty will be a God send. For the right side of the curve, nothing will happen at all and extended warranties are a rip off. See populist: Edmunds and Consumer Reports. For the majority you will experience some level of loss but not equal to your premium. Conclusion, negotiate the hell out of your extended warranty if you are so inclined and buy one so that it is cheap insurance. If you are in the minority, it sucks to be you. In the grand universe of of insurance, there are far worse.
  • joel0622joel0622 Member Posts: 3,299
Thats the great thing about being an American. If YOU see no value in them then don't buy them.

I quit fighting the fight and if they are good or bad. For every reason you have not to buy one I have an RO that would have been $3000 + service RO that was paid by a $1100 Service Contract.

I don't know about all of your formulas for return on investment and all that good stuff but to steal a term from my Republican Brethren "I have seen them save "Joe The Plumbers" [non-permissible content removed] many a time.

If you don't like them then don't buy them. If you can afford to self insure thats great. I applaud your economic savvy.

My son wrecked his car (we made it 4 months)! No engine or frame damage, but side body damage and airbag deployed. The insurance company is totaling the car. We want to fix it. Very nice 2004 Saab turbo Aero with 40,000 miles. We have the extended warranty through Carmax. Will this void the warranty? Since its only been 4 months, can I get my money back?
  • joel0622joel0622 Member Posts: 3,299
Call Carmax and ask them. If they say it voids it then process the refund. If there is a balance owed on the car they will cut the refund check to the bank holding the title. If you have clear title they will cut the check to you.

Something to keep in mind - many maufacturers offer service contracts for other makes as well. Chrysler does this, and I'm sure most others probably do. You can check out chrysler extended warranty.

That's great that GMPP and Easy Care have the most comprehensive coverage, but the question is are they still going to be around to pay the claims down the road when the car breaks??? Who is GMPP and EasyCare insured by? I sure hope it's not GM, the same GM that's about to go under!!! If you wants tips and an unbiased opinion go to a consumer site like www.consumerguide.org, or www.bestwarrantydeals.com. They provide tips about how to purchase a car warranty- and so does www.ehow.com, now that I think about it....The biggest question in our mind should be not only whatthe warranty covers and the price BUT ALSO, what insurance company is backing the policy- if any.....???

Does anyone have any experience with Extended Warranty Corp of St. Peters, MO?

We recently got a mail offer from them and since HondaCare 7 Yr/100K warranty had just expired for my wife's 2001 Honda Odyssey with 101K mileage, I was interested in finding out what were their terms.

I spoke with them earlier today and they were willing to extend the warranty for another 7 years and 100K for $3721. However, they were unwilling to provide anything in writing as to what was covered and what was not covered by their extended warranty. They don't have online website detailing their warranty or were even willing to fax me a copy of their plan. At that point, I told them their way of doing business wasn't compatible with my requirements and ended the conversation.

I'm curious, does anyone out there have any experience with this company? I have searched Google but didn't find anything meaningful.

WOW!!! A 200k mile auto warranty??? Do ask who the administrator is and who this company is backed(insured) by....This dealer opened shop in Feb. 2007 according to the better business bureau and has already racked up 49 complaints. see this copy/paste from the BBB:
    Customer Experience

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

The BBB processed a total of 49 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total of 49 complaints closed in 36 months, 48 were closed in the last year.

You apparently have $3700+ that you're willing to spend on a service contract. Why not bank that money & earn a bit of interest? Wouldn't it make make more sense for you to pay for any repairs out of this money - to self-insure, in other words - instead of turning it over to a 3rd party that might not be around when you need help?
  • jipsterjipster Member Posts: 6,296
they were unwilling to provide anything in writing as to what was covered and what was not covered by their extended warranty.

Perhaps the only thing they cover are windshield wiper blade refills. :confuse:

I'd run if I were you... far far away from whatever this company is.

I'd like to find out if anyone has had positive or negative experiences with warranty direct. I am looking at an extended warranty for my 5-series. They seem to have a fairly reasonable price of around 1400 for 2 years for their best level of coverage. The warranty from BMW is 3000 +.

You might want to read through previous messages in this discussion, or use the advanced search feature (under the "forums search" box) and look for "warranty direct" in the Smart Shopper board. There are many posts, postive & negative, about this company.

are they still going to be around to pay the claims

Now the question may be whether the dealer is going to be willing to work with the aftermarket warranty company.

My layman opinion is you will be hard pressed to find an extended warranty for a 2002 Land Rover that is reasonably priced. Land Rover's do not have the best reliability records. The cost for an extended warranty may exceed the costs of any repairs you may need.

Your best bet may be to check with your Land Rover dealership for a recommendation. The fact that EasyCare did not want to take your money for another policy should give a hint.
  • mitzijmitzij Member Posts: 613
What claims did you have that EasyCare paid?

    Hey all.

I have a 2002 Mazda Millenia. In about 7k miles when I reach 100k, my factory contract with Mazda will expire. I am only 24 and would like to keep this car for a couple more years so that I don't have to pay car payment. However, I do not want to spend excessive amounts of money on car repairs as I know that the parts for this car are expensive. Luckily, I do not have the Supercharged model, so I am thinking I should be able to find a reasonable price for this car vs. the s/c model.

What warranty companies do you guys recommend? Price is a major factor, but they need to be an "A" rated company.

I appreciate any and all suggestions.

Very few here will recommend anything but a manufacturer backed warranty as we've been burned when the 3rd party company goes bankrupt, i.e. Warranty Gold.

A fellow at one of the snowplowing sites found out the hard way
how the aftermarket warranty companies weasle out of paying
for the repair of his broken transmission.
He is saying its the Auto-select company but from his post who knows?
    http://www.plowsite.com/showthread.php?t=75062&page=3
He claims they denied repair because his truck has a snowplow, dump
    box, lettering etc........................

Funny that a GM extended warranty covers commercial vehicles but does
have a $250 upcharge for trucks used for snowplowing.

But I guess he was past the factory warranty and was unable to get the
GM warranty or couldn't see past the few dollars he was gonna save by
    buying the brand X warranty.

It's the first question a service contract admin asks- is the vehicle 'personal use only'. I have yet to read a contract that does not have this provision. If it's a company vehicle, you pay more for the contract.

One customer came in with their dog-grooming company signage all over their vehicle. I informed the lady that this voided her service contract. Her daughter had sold her the contract! They figured they'd just lie to the company to get claims paid. Luckily, her problem wasn't covered by the contract anyway.

One doesn't know if that report is good or bad, unless there is something to compare it to. Any business that warranty products is going to have complaints to the BBB. How many policy holders do they have? If it's a million... 35 complaints doesn't sound too bad. 33 out of 35 complaints were resolved, so that sounds pretty good. I'm sure many people bought policies and didn't bother reading or asking what all they covered.

Now, Mike, don't assume he's a shill just because he's posted only once here, he writes like a sales ad, and the story falls in the 'too good to be true' category. ;)

So, Jim, how much did you pay for this great policy? How many oil change receipts did they require since you owned the vehicle for about a year before the engine went kerbluie? How long did it take to get your truck fixed? How much time did your truck sit waiting for authorization? Did they send out an adjuster to inspect the truck? A crapped-out engine that is not related to maintenance is an unusual thing.

Not everyone who posts a good experience story straight off is a shill - I remember one recently who genuinely wasn't. However, lucky Jim is posting from the same area where AutoSave is located, so at least if he has an issue, he's not far away from the company.

OK-my '06 Mini Cooper S Convert has about 20 miles left
on the mfg warranty. Only had a few things wrong in 2 years-bad pressure plate on the clutch, temp sensor problem and electrical harness problem- am wondering about an extended warranty. My dealer sells one from Easy Care. From the post I've seen here so far, people either like or hate them. Any final verdict? Any other good companies to look at. And also-if I do go over the 50,000 miles-are there companies that sell extended warranties with good coverage?
    Thanks

We strongly considered one at the dealership; it is not a Mercedes Warranty. It was around $4200 Bumper to Bumper and would have given us coverage for 7 years or 84,000 miles. The company was licensed to do business in Florida but there is nobody really regulating them right now..Not good.

You have to pay it all up front so if you figure the lost interest on that money over a period, you need to add that to the actual cost. Also, you must keep up the warranty as required in the Manufacturer's book albeit some of those things may not be critical..You always run the risk of any little thing causing them to decline coverage. We also worried they would hold it against us if we did not stick with the dealership's repair shop who charges 25% more for their hourly labor.

We approached two mechanics in town that service Mercedes and who both worked at one time for the local dealer. They felt the risk was worth trying because these car should last 100,000 or more without major issues. No, there are no quarantees. So, we just decided to insure it ourselves and hope for the best. We do not put on much mileage as we are retired.

A big factor was worring we would be screwed by the warranty company if a really big repair would be necessary. That's really what it finally came down to..Mistrust..Real or imagined. So many ways they can get out of a repair and nobody at the State level here in Florida to help. If oyu have a strong State regulatory office like in Colorado, I'd consider a extended warranty. Do your research and see if your State will help if the insurer tries to screw you. Forget Florida.

Incidently, we did have an extended warranty with our other Mercedes a C-280 1998 and after all was said and done, it was a wash. We paid $2100 and we had maybe $1900 in repairs..The company honored all the repairs but there were some fights on parts costs....
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Good choice, $4200 will pay for a lot of repairs, though I'm sure a MB is expensive to fix, and only up to 84K miles is kind of low for that kind of cash.
  • 67camaro167camaro1 Member Posts: 2
I'am not going to take an extended warranty when I pick up the car on Jan 31st since I do not want to pay for an ext warr before the original warr expires. Waste of $. What I need to know is if I want to purchase lets say an 8 yr ext warr just before the original expires what would be a good company to use. I have read to stay away from third party warranties. I was quoted by Warranty Direct $ 1402, $ 100 deductible for an 8 yr warranty. Could I go back to the dealer in 3 years and purchase an ext warranty or would they charge me too much.

I have a 5-year old Audi. When the lease expired last year, I decided to buy the car instead of leasing another one. I was able to get Audi Pure Protection (administered by Century Warranty Services) Select Care coverage with $100 deductible FREE OF CHARGE just by signing up with Audi for a loan on my car. Five months after signing the contract I paid off my loan. I went to an Audi dealer this month to have something checked on my car. The service contract paid for $2000+ worth of repairs with complimentary 2008 Audi A4 rental car for the 3 days my car was in the shop. Honestly, I thought it was too good to be true. I'm a cheapskate so I was so happy my "purchase" had saved me money. I can only say good things about MY extended warranty. I plan on keeping my car for as long as it's safe to drive but I'll definitely get an extended warranty on all of my future cars.

    What repairs were done?
  • audilation1audilation1 Member Posts: 3
    -replace rack & pinion assembly
    -replace broken window regulator
    -repair cam adjuster seal leak
-free labor on replacing rear brake light bulb (I paid $6+ for the part as it was not covered by the warranty). I'm sure it was not worth charging anyways.
-car was washed (and vacuumed) when I got it back.
-total was about $2100+ for parts and labor and I only paid for the deductible and the light bulb.

I was quoted $2500+ for the Select Care with $100 deductible before I got it for free. I'm really grateful I got it. I just wish they had those up to 7 years. Mine's only for 4yr./48,000mi.

This month has been a good one on my wallet. My boss at work took 3 of us to watch the Lakers play the Wizards at Staples Center (I live in SoCal-O.C.) last week. Company paid for the food and beer! The only blemish in the month is that my computer didn't want to turn on yesterday and today (finally did way later) so I'm backing up all my files and probably gonna buy a new one next week. Things have a way of balancing things out. I overpaid on my 1st Audi lease (term was for 5 years) and that car started needing expensive repairs after the warranty expired on the 3rd year. Win some, lose some.

A well established solid company. Seems like if you were going to go with a third party for an extended warranty, this company would be the way to go. I haven't heard any negatives... haven't heard much of anything for that matter. They've been running advertisments in their quarterly newsletter, as I am a member of their road service program, everything sounds pretty good. Any experiences with these guys anyone???

We bought our '03 Volvo with 95K miles 12/08. It's not covered by any warranty. Looking for advice on whether to buy (and who to buy it from) :confuse: a third party extended warranty to cover us in case of the inevitable transmission breakdown we're expecting. Thanks!
  • ronsmith38ronsmith38 Member Posts: 228
Any extended warranty plan for a vehicle that age and miles would probably cost thousands. Better plan - put $100 a month into a savings account for that "inevitable transmission breakdown". If you don't need it go on a cruise.
  • golicgolic Member Posts: 714
I second that. From what I have read here and elsewhere, 3rd party warranties are just not worth the hassle. Save for a rainy day and continue to do the recommended maintenance on the vehicle.

When I buy a car, if there is an option to purchase an extended mfg. warranty I take that option. I have had great experiences with Honda and GM on this.

    Hello,

I just bought 2005 Jag X Type which has 13000 miles. The factory warranty is going to expire in July 2009. I am planning to buy extended warranty from Jag dealer. He quoted me for Easy Care - Total Care for 4yrs (from today) and 75000 miles (Odometer) for $2216 with 0 deductible. I want to find out if this is a good idea. The dealer said this is the only warranty they offer, and no paper work required for covered repairs. I can get my car repaired anywhere. The warranty company used to be owned by Ford.

    The contract says:
Issuing provider: Warranty Support Services LLC., Atlanta
Administrator: Automobile Protection Corp - APCO, Atlanta, GA.

Please advise. How good is the warranty company? I also have an option of getting Ford warranty from a Ford dealer for about $2000 with 0 deductible with a one step lower coverage.

    Thanks.
