I was referring to the general problems in addition to the right pull mechanical problem. And if they have a fix, the dealers don't seem to know about it.

Problems like guys ordering in January and still no delivery in May and the general unavailability of the 300C (and the moon roof) and rumors of 300C's being stored on amusement park lots because they have to be inspected for an undisclosed production problem.

It just seems like DC is unprepared to take advantage of the 300C's popularity.

BTW, I remember the sticking you mentioned with the 300M, but I never had it. Was that one of the reasons for the window motor issue?

I talked to the dealer today for update on 300C delivery. Placed order on 4/14/04 for a Black Pearl 300C with SGII, Sirius, and HID. No moonroof or nav. It is in D1 now and scheduled to ship on 5/25 (Estimated). Should take delivery here in the KC area around June 7th...ish. Still working on the Chrysler financing $1000 extension. Sent an e-mail into CFS today to see what they think about giving some grace period for people who ordered in april expecting May delivery.

I thought the fix has already been discussed here a few times. There is a kit that Chrysler is shipping (or going to ship soon) to the dealers that addresses the pull to the right issue.

Actually the sketch in the R & T Supplement shows a mesh grille and I think it looks pretty nice.

Maybe I will try to make a photoshop job...

As I inch closer to making a purchase....on my third test drive I noticed wind noise....what experience are you owners having with highway wind noise? This was mentioned in Consumer's Reports and Car and Driver, I understand.

Also, what do you think about visibility? What is this talk about blind spot on driver's side?
  • emaleemale Member Posts: 1,380
what vehicle are you talking about? CR hasn't tested an LX yet...

new camber bolts (kinda like offset washers)...

Cavendish asked: what experience are you owners having with highway wind noise, and What is this talk about blind spot on driver's side?

Nice and quiet cruising at 80 on the interstate. As for the blind spot, it's the tendency of an object to be blocked from view by the rear view mirror (RVM). The wife has no problem seeing the "whole picture"s under the RVM as she's only 5'1". However, as for myself 6'0", I like to have the driver's seat in sort of a "bucket" mode, with lots of leg room, meaning the seat is as far back as it goes. In this mode, if I sit up the RVM blocks my vision pretty bad, in my own opinion anyway. To circumvent this I have to "slouch" to be able to see the "whole pictue", which is then presented by seeng everything UNDER the RVM. I have the RVM pushed up as close to the headliner as I can. One can't go right to the headliner as the garage opener thing is there. One has to keep playing with the adjustment to get it right, but I'm content with slouching at the moment. Oh, by the way, if I need to adjust the cruise control, I have to sit straight up to see it behind the steering wheel, as it's rather hidden from view. Once I get used to adjusting the cruise blindly, I'll be fine. Right now, I don't use it that much, so I'm fumbling with it.

Tomorrow, the C goes in for it's new module and software emissions update, going to have them do an oil change, and switch to synthetic for the remainder of it's life.

That's not the conventional definition of "blind spot." What you described is *a* blind spot, but not *the* blind spot. Where I come from, "blind spot" refers to the area on each of the car's sides that can not be viewed by your peripheral vision *OR* by the mirrors. It's closer to the front of the car than the mirrors can show, but more rearward of what you can see out your peripheral vision.
  • bigmike5bigmike5 Member Posts: 960
You must sit up straight. If you are going to slouch over to see, you will be inviting a police stop, particularly if you have a baseball cap on, and have it turned to the side slightly askew. If you also tint the windows and put in a gangsta rap CD a stop is a guarantee.lol

I am referring to the 300...a preliminary review of the vehicle is in the April auto issue of Consumer Reports.

    > Why produce a bunch of low-end, minimum profit, rental-fleet cars when this car is in such high demand?

Check out this quote from http://allpar.com/cars/lx/index.html, apparently written mid-2003:

Full-fledged production of the first LX cars is due to start around January 5, with preliminary test models being cranked out very slowly to work out processes, find quality problems, and work on last-minute changes (this is normal, but suppliers have reportedly complained that the Lutz era's progress in eliminating last-minute changes has been largely erased). Next come fleet models for endurance testing, and finally models for retail sale. You should be able to buy an LX in January 2004. (Thanks, Otto Wrkr, for the dates).

well, you must have the 300m confused with the new 300 because CR didn't say anything about the new 300 and wind noise. they haven't even published a full test yet. but anyway, the new 300 is quiet in regards to both wind and road noise...
  • stephenstephen Member Posts: 131
My 300C has no noticeable wind noise with one exception. When the car sits in the sun for 30 or 40 minutes (it normally is garaged) such as at a stop off the freeway for lunch, when resuming highway speeds of 60 mph or more, there is a loud wind noise from the center of the instrument panel for 15 to 30 seconds that sounds like wind interacting briefly with some component of the air conditioning system. It is a sound similar to a fan belt squealing. Sometimes a little bit of squeal, other times very loud squealing. Fortunately, it has never lasted for more than half a minute.

I was concerned about the difficulty of seeing out the right side of the car, especially with those high door sills. It didn't really end up bothering me though, since the sideview mirrors are nice and BIG. You certainly do have to be aware of your environment, but the mirrors are great.

By the way, the way sideview mirrors SHOULD be positioned is so that you can see traffic to the SIDE of you. Many people have them pointed so they can see their back bumper or the sides of their own car, which is incorrect. No wonder people get sideswiped!

Called my dealer today. Order from 4/19 (300C with most extras incl. moonroof) is still in BG. Will not be build in June. So hopefully in July then. Good news is they can enter moonroof orders into the system again. Just have to tell people that there is a wait. With my luck in will come in early August when I am out of town for 2 weeks.

I just want to confirm what I believe to be true about the audio system in the 300C, sound groupII, no NAV. The random (RND) in CD mode only randoms 1 CD and not all 6? That doesn't make sense to me. You should have the option to random 1 or 6.

Also, in MP3 mode you can view folders but not the individual songs within the folders? I have only tried 1 MP3 CD so far with only 1 folder. I see the folder but can't seem to see the songs under that folder. Is this the case? I think I read in an earlier post that those with the NAV system can scroll through folders and songs in a nice disply on the NAV screen interface. Is that true? If so, it kind of sucks buecause I ordered the NAV but backed out of my order because of the sunroof delay and took an in stock car without NAV.

I picked up my 300C satin Jade yesterday from a dealer 180 miles away! Found it with the help of this fourm and looking hours through chryslers inventory via the dealerships link. I was lucky to get it fully loaded minus HID lights which I didn't want.

I drove it back on I95 last night and it's amazing how 1 out of 5 drivers did a full 90 degree turn of their head to look at the car!

I had no wind noise and was surprised how quiet it was. The audio system is awesome!

I think I did notice a slight pull to the right when my hands were off the steering wheel (which I could live with).

It was very difficult in not stepping on the gas pedal! They say to drive 55 for the breakin but that's impossible in that car!

My one major gripe is that the LCD for the NAV/Radio is too bright and it should allow you to dim it or turn it off without actually turning off the radio. Using the control dimmer switch dims everything which is no good as you need lights for the dashboard. My wife says she will put an antiglare film over the lcd screen which will greatly cut down on the glare when driving at night. Also, someone really needs to get the hack for allowing nav input when driving above 10mph! My passenger was complaining they coulnd't input which doesn't make sense.

It's an awesome car! I can't wait to leave work and drive it.

I have not had the free week it takes to sit down and digest the Brittannica Encyclopedia of auto and nav 300C manuals yet, but while flipping through the different screens in an 'investigative moment' in my car I did see an option in the Nav setup for screen brightness. It exists, I saw it, I swear!

You're right, it's bright enough with the stock setup to illuminate any and all trailing vehicles. Somewhat annoying yes, but then when you consider the evil glow it must give you when other drivers look over at you (think camp counselor with flashlight held to chin during spooky story time), it's just another German stroke of evil genius.

What new module and emissions software update are you referring to? Are there changes already?
  • soozpksoozpk Member Posts: 205
Inreference to the "Emissions Recall and to install Correct Software"

This only refers to Hemi C's, and this is how some of it appears. Dear Chrysler 300C Owner, DaimlerChrysler has determined that some 2005 model year Chrysler 300C vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine may be in violation of Federal and California emission regulations.

The problem is: The Powertrain Control Module on your vehicle was inadvertantly programmed with incorrect software that can cause the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system to malfunction.

What DaimlerChrysler and your dealer will do: DaimlerChrysler will repair your vehicle free-of-charge (parts and labor) To do this, your dealer will replace your vehicle's Powertrain Control Module, and install the correct software. The work will take about an hour to complete:

Okay, there's probably a little bit more to this, as I dropped my car off at 7:00 AM, and the service advisor asked if I wanted to wait for it (Thank God I didn't), but told them I'll just swing by at noon and pick it up. However, at noon the car was still in the bay with it's hood up, and a big variable charger hooked to the battery in the back end. I told them to just call when it was done, and that turned out to be 2:00 PM...........so beware the timeframe of an hour.

The other day talking to the salesman about incentives, he said if one orders a car today, you will not necessarily get the incentive offered today. You will get what is available at time of delivery. That seems wrong since he wants a $500 deposit to order the car- but he says there will probably always be some incentive probably as good or maybe better than now. The Durango's haven't been out that long and look at what they have now -0% financing or $3500 cash allowance plus $1000 bonus cash if you use their financing. I remember when ordering my wife's Intrepid at the time we ordered it, it had the 3/36K warranty but by the time it was delivered the 7/70? or 7/100? was in effect. So we got the better warranty.

Curious if you bought the HID Headlamps option. Are you happy with their performance over the regular lights or do you regret paying the extra $600+ for them. Do you like the way the headlamp washers work? Also do you recommend splash guards or are they too ugly for this car?
  • autoguyautoguy Member Posts: 23
Just noticed my 2 day old 300c hood being very hot on the sides. You probably could cook an egg on it. Has anyone noticed this? It really is too hot to touch even more so above the lights. You also can feel very hot air blowing from the sides of the hood. I was also sitting idle for a period of time and heard the big blower suck in air for about 30 secs and shut off.

Is this normal for the hood to be so hot?

I went to one of the local dealers here in winnipeg, test drove a magnesium 300c and wound up trading in my '99 300m! WOW it's about time they built a car the right way. This things got it all. Have to go now, it's time for a spin! Wonder if they could put a push button tranny in.....hmmm

Grand Forks here, Arnold. You'll find it's a great cruiser on the open prairie. How many Chrysler dealerships does Winnipeg have, by the way??
  • arnoldwarnoldw Member Posts: 28
Hi sooz , I believe we have 5 or 6 dealers in and around Winnipeg. There's a fairly good selection of C's and regular 300's here. Probably 30 all together.

Time magazine had a small box article on the new 300C that was very complementary. Confirms what any of us who have driven it already know.

While looking at Infiniti's FX lineup, I was astounded that their dvd nav (Xanavi/Zenrin) provides turn-by-turn directions for only 5% of the continental USA.
I searched this forum, but did not find a specific answer to how this compares to the dvd maps in the 300C nav.
  • bigmike5bigmike5 Member Posts: 960
Nice job. The "more mesh" picture is the best IMHO. Definitely an improvement.

" The single DVD solution "

While no % figure is give, they basically say it covers all of the US "where digital mapping data is available". Probably a whole lot more than 5% . . .

Believing that any % figure given would be out of date immediately anyway . . .

Thanks. I've seen this web, but was unclear about the maps.
My Garmin 2610 gives me complete coverage for the whole of the USA with specific directions in even a small time like Falcon, NC.
  • crispiegeecrispiegee Member Posts: 90
I know it's not as fancy as the in-dash units, but I plan on buying a Garmin hand held GPS. That way I can use it in the car OR on the motorcycle.

I'm not sure if anyone has a recommendation on a good model, but I'm already going to spend more than I really should buy a 300C. Adding another $2,000 for navigation seems a bit irresponsible.

Hey Ruski - I like the eggcrate grille, but the mesh looks good too. Don't think I care for the "total" mesh look however.

can someone please post a picture or a link of the other designs chrysler coinsidered for the 300? I remember reading that some people got a magazine or booklet about that.
  • bjsohiobjsohio Member Posts: 69
It makes no sense to me either! My wife drives a 03 Mazda 6 and her cd unit is the same way...6 cds and "random", randomly plays from only one! It's a Bose.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
a friend of mine bought a color, touch-screen, talking Garmin for ~$700 on Amazon.com.
  • kvilleboykvilleboy Member Posts: 45
OK - here is what I think we know. Chrysler has a problem with equipping C's with sunroofs and can produce only 450/day. Therefore there is a backlog of orders. Those orders are in limbo (status BG). Are the orders that have been placed in this status because of the sunroof problem processed with a first come first served basis? In other words, my order was received by Chrysler on 4/12. Do I move up in some imaginary queue 450 places every day or are there other influences in play (such as what dealer the order was placed with, etc.)?

If you do move up the chain 450 places each day shouldn't Chrysler be able to project when an order placed on a certain date is available to be built? I suspect we have some "informed" people here (joecanuk where did you go??), any ideas, not based on guesses or hopes) of when an order for a "C" with the sunroof might be delivered? As of 5/20 - still BG!!

The frustrating part is that I have seen 2 very similarly equipped cars available within 200 miles of me. Do I abandon my deal with my dealer (who has my $500 deposit) and go for a bird in the hand? I really don't want to do that. I like to honor my contracts and they have assured me that they will stick to their quoted value on my trade-in whenever the car arrives (but common sense would tell me that there would have to be limits there). Please - help, someone give me peace of mind.

I purchased a 300C Jade today. It did not have the Nav system or Bluetooth. The dealer ordered them and the cost was identical to the price if it came from the factory. These options are modular in design and can be quickly exchanged.

By the way, mine came with a sunroof.

I know one of the vendors who produces some of the assemblies for the 300C and they said Chrysler has upped the quantities a few times. The sunroof may have some long lead time parts that don't allow the vendor to react quickly. I guarentee you they want to.

Oh yea, the vendors employees loved the 300C and several came out to admire it!

I am still waiting for Chrysler to tell me/the dealer/ anyone what the fix is for the pull problem. I hear there is a TSB, and a repair kit, but nothing is forthcoming from anywhere. This could be a great driver, instead I fight the wheel all the time. Yes, the tires were cross rotated, yes the air pressure is right, yes the alignment has been done twice by the dealer, and yes do I tell everyone who asks how I like the car. The repsonse I get from most people is this is why they avoid Chrylser cars. Lousy service and communucation.
  • stephenstephen Member Posts: 131
Did the dealer attempt to adjust the cradle? Chrysler told my dealer to try that, and he did. That eliminated 75% of the pull on my 300C. Chrysler told the dealer that kits to repair this issue will be ready this summer.

I test drove a 300C with nav this morning. It gave turn-by-turn directions up to the city of Falcon, but not inside this tiny hamlet. I gave it a street address is another city not quite as small and it had no problem giving full directions. Looks like a good unit.
Inventory of 300Cs, however, may be something of a problem in OKC

Kvilleboy asked: Does anyone understand Chrysler scheduling? Please - help, someone give me peace of mind.

I'm going to give you a toll-free number for Brampton Assembly, HOWEVER, it's against house rules to post phone numbers. Load these three words onto your browser, and hopefully, you'll have it. One word of caution when calling: Be courteous, be patient, be specific. No long stories, just have your VIN handy. They patched me through two people until they found someone who finally knew that my vehicle had been shipped. Hopefully, the number is still viable.

The car is awesome it's got to be the best car I have ever owned, my girlfriend thinks it's beautiful have to agree with her. The color is Deep Lava Red its hard to tell that is actully red when I picked it up yesterday there was a guy looking at it and ordered the same color I waited since 2/17. It rained here today and the wipers came on automaticaly and when the rain sped up the speed picked up. The Navigation works great.

How many are having a problem with the right pull?
Is it every car? Is it just those built before a certian date? Are they still building out these cars knowing they have a problem, or have they stopped production until they fix it?

    What's up?

is asking to be flooded with spam ...

A better idea is to make your email address public in your profile (see Town Hall Profile link on the upper left side of the page). That way only members who are logged in can see it -- the bots who harvest email addresses for the spammers cannot.

It would be better to delete a message that contains your email address, make the address public in your profile and then repost asking folks to check your profile in order to contact you.

That way the spam bots can't getcha!!

    Congrats rayk1 !
I know this is an imposition but would you take a few pictures of your 300c & post them somewhere or maybe email me? (see my profile for email.. thx for the tip patHOST) I have been dying to see the lava red ad none have come in that color at my dealer yet.. my order is still in BG status so if it looks killer I still have a chance to change my order

please please show off your ride!
