If you live in Cook County, the lease taxes are an absolute killer .. something like 17% total.

How much are they trying to make?

You are rolling in over $6K of negative equity? That alone will add about $167/mo to the pre-tax lease payment.

Why not wait until you are less buried in your current car?

And, the MF is marked up, as well. Might want to try a Denver Audi dealer.

Well..how bad is that markup? I suspect that isn't causing the most damage, the neg equity is for sure.
I don't want to wait, buried in a 2011 A4...don't ask, you've heard them all I'm sure.
I'm wanting to get out now while it isn't too bad...at least I thought it wasn't too bad.
Last month they had some dealer cash on a leftober 2015 and had offered me almost 4k more for my trade.
I declined, but was considering it knowing I had rolled some negative into the Audi.
I waited too long and the 2015's are gone..except for a couple of S3's, hence my other questions.

I'm realizing I am not a buy/hold type of buyer and should go back to leasing like I once did in the 90s.


Recommend a Denver dealer if you can.

I've never shopped for an Audi, but have a friend who has had an A5, S3 and and S4 in the past few years. The S3 and S4 came from the Fort Collins dealer, IIRC; the A5 from Prestige on Colfax in Denver or Lakewood.

The longer you wait, the better position you'll be in, financially.

You need to come over to the "Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous" thread; it's full of folks who are the opposite of 'buy and hold'.

Looking to lease a 2016 Audi A5 Premium Plus in Maryland (HuntsValley, or Freidrick). I was quoted a MF of .00136 and a Residual of 53% for a 36 month lease for 12k miles / year. With $2000 down the monthly was coming up to $748.

MSRP of the car was $47,850. Actual selling price was $45,681 (To this total they added extras of $3500 for Tax, Registration fee, Documentation fee, Title fee and filing fee). So total was $49,090.

Could you guide me on whether this is a good deal (based on what I am reading here this clearly isn't). How could I go about negotiating further ? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Assuming this is the Coupe, the lease numbers are .00011 and 53%, so yeah, the MF is marked up a whole lot.

MD assigns sales tax to the entire selling price, which obviously hurts your lease payment.

I get $667/mo when I calculate using the base MF; $760 with the .00136 MF.

For Audi, 4-6% off MSRP, before any available incentives, is a good target price.

Your dealer has disclosed the selling price and payment, but not much else. For example, the taxes quoted are for a purchase, not a lease. CA taxes the monthly payment.

With no CAP cost reduction, your payment should be $468/mo.+tax. That's probably not far off your $507/mo, but your deal is with $2500 upfront.

$507 1st payment
$795 acquisition fee
$512 title/license/doc fee

That leaves about $700 for...??

The only way to take $57/mo. out of your deal is to cut $2000 from it, somewhere.

You want to know:

MSRP
Selling Price
Adjusted cap cost - selling price plus any fees or taxes not covered by the $2500 up front

You want to negotiate the lowest possible selling price - 4-6% off sticker for an Audi is a pretty good discount.

I'll assume this is for a coupe.

Numbers this month are .00011 and 56%. Dealer can mark up the MF but can't touch the residual.

So, that makes me officially confused.

No - the MF is the same at .00011, but the 36/12 residual is now 53%

56% is the correct 36/12 residual for the Premium trim, however.

Yes, AudiCare adds 1% to the residual.

Any miles above 15,000 are charged at $.20 per mile, deducted from the 15,000 mile calculated residual.

Individual options or packages do not affect the lease numbers.
