I was told by a dealer that the 2.9% financing and the $1,000 dealer incentive could NOT be combined as they could in July. Edmunds says they can be combined. Any confirmation?
  • dgrazdadgrazda Member Posts: 18
Tustin Acura confirmed they are combinable. Just for curiousity, which dealer shared that bit of BS with you? It just seems illogical that the sales programs would be more restrictive as they get closer to the end of the model year!
  • richey02hgrichey02hg Member Posts: 69
    i dont get it

so does that mean if I had a 30,300 quote in early July for a TL, they will now offer me 29,300? (I got that quote from the Tustin dealer
  • dgrazdadgrazda Member Posts: 18
wow. 30.3 for a TL with Nav? That is a great deal. I called today. They are at 31.1 so unless yours was without Nav you were getting an excellent deal....can you confirm this? Your price sounds like the new benchmark if it is correct.

29.3 without Nav feels about right but I have not priced this version specificially....however about $1800 for Nav could be possible.
  • richey02hgrichey02hg Member Posts: 69
no that was without nav. i dont remember the exact price because I was more interested in the TSX. but I believe it was around there.i remember it being about 500 under invoice or so. so does that mean he will give me an offer 1000 less now? but I think I have to save more anyways if I want a TL, and might just wait for the 2007 since from what I read they are spicing up the interior (hopefully a free ipod connection like the TSX)
  • dgrazdadgrazda Member Posts: 18
Not sure how eager they are or if they were factoring in some factory to dealer incentive early?? but I would ask him the question just like you did here. If 30.3 was good before, and there is 1k of cash, the price should be lower. From my discussions with them over the phone, they seem to be straightforward...but definitely mention early on that you know about the incentive. also talk to him about the ipod connector in the TL...for some strange reason, it does not work as well as one might hope...something about changing songs...good luck
  • ajesajes Member Posts: 8
According to TOV rumours the TL may get up to over 290HP. But the bad part is that the information won't be released until Sept 1st. Guess they are worried about 2006 sales. I think I'll wait until then to see what to get. I am also considering the RDX.
  • richey02hgrichey02hg Member Posts: 69
well yah, the ipod connector that you pay 500 bucks for sucks at integrating it into your cars stereo....however, the one that is standard on the TSX is basically just an auxilary port that is in your center console....and you control it through your ipod but it plays through your stereo. So simple that its a wonder why its not standard on the TL (you pay 500 on both the TL and TSX if you want the one that is integrated)
  • tlinnjtlinnj Member Posts: 5
This is exactly what happened to my quotes - they went down $1K on July 21. $29.5K for a non-nav '06 TL is the best offer I got last week.
  • gonein60secgonein60sec Member Posts: 56
What part of the country is this that you're getting this quote from? Lowest, I've got within the last week in the NY/NJ area for non-nav model is $30,084. I also got a quote in late June for $30,785 before the current $1,000 incentive so that puts it about $29.8K currently.

Getting ready to purchase a TL (or TSX). First internet quotes were around the TMV price from Edmunds (31,500 TL, 27,500 TSX, **no nav**). Live in midwest. Only 2 Acura dealers in area. Thought this might be a decent price until started reading this forum! I'm not interested spending too much time dealing, but would like a fair price. Any suggestions on how to get these dealers down? Is invoice price a good measure. Also seeing where there is a $1000 dealer incentive. Suggestions are welcome. Confused right now.
  • tonyriztonyriz Member Posts: 4
Just bought an 06 TL 6MT/Nav in Phoenix, AZ. After reading this forum, was able to get a an offer of $31,100 from Tustin in CA. Only after showing this to the local dealer were they willing to negotiate, but not willing to go below $32,000. Considering the airline ticket/miles to drive back, I took it. Also, in the entire Phoenix metro, with 3 acura dealers, only one had TL's with the 6MT, and only 1 of those with Nav. Unbelieveable. But I think anyone in the market needs to shop around and if you find a dealer unwilling to negotiate, show them the emailed offers from other dealers. BTW, EXCELLENT car.
  • dgrazdadgrazda Member Posts: 18
Might be tough to negotiate them down if there is little competition. Clearly, the prices in SoCal are becoming irrational...(read as good for buyer). There are sooo many Acura dealers that it only takes a couple of them to start things going....interestingly, most of San Diego dealers do not play this game, just LA. only way to work the price down is to come into the dealer informed about their cost structure. If you can estimate their holdback percent you might be able to take a piece of that...however in no way would I pay more than invoice (including dest)less $1k....at that price, you get the manufacturer money and they get the holdback...I would also check competing dealers that you can get to with a couple hours drive to see if there is another $1 - 1.5K to save. Good Luck The 31.1 dealers in LA assume the dealer contributes about $700 of holdback (or about 2%) I am guessing that there is another 2.5% of holdbaack that they keep...thus they still pocket about $1k on the sale...I could be wrong but I thought I have hear that some of the high volume dealers get 4-5% holdback....anyone have info to support or contradict this?
  • avandelayavandelay Member Posts: 2
Tony, what dealer did you buy from and did the $32K incl. destination. I got the same quote incl. destination but then ttl plus doc fee.
  • z71billz71bill Member Posts: 1,986
Even if you really want an Acura TL/TSX and there is only 1 dealer within 1,000 miles of where you live you can still negotiate a good deal.

Competition is EVERY OTHER CAR DEALERSHIP not just Acura.

There must be other car dealerships in your area - Honda, Toyota, VW, Nissan or Infinity. Do a little research on some cars that are close to the TL/TSX - but are selling at a price that is below them. The Camry SE is a good comparison to the TL - more HP, 6 speed auto, uses regular gas, new model - ITS A 2007! Accord or Jetta stacks up to the TSX.

For example - if you want the TL -
Then go into Acura and talk to them - let them know you want the TL & you know about the $1,000 cash - but want a good deal - tell them your second choice is the Canmry SE (guess that is selling for about $27,500) - want to buy today (before the guys over at Toyota sell the SE that they have in stock that is EXACTLY what you want) - but it needs to be $29,500 - see what they say.
  • scoswriterscoswriter Member Posts: 1
Previous posts are right about the shadiness of the incentive. I wish I knew a little sooner. They really don't want to get below 32000. Some of the dealers in my area (Balto.) are giving you the option of financing or some "amount" (as if it were a rebate instead) and not even claiming the incentive exists. The best I've got right now is 33.75k on the road. Trying to get down to 33k even
  • pb1000pb1000 Member Posts: 5
I really appreciate this information. Another factor maybe someone can help me with. It's now early August. Won't the 2007's be out in the next month or so? Can I use this as a negotiating tool for a 2006? Maybe I should keep them hanging for a couple of more weeks.

Also, when negotiating, do I just ask the dealer for a copy of their invoice for the car? Is this normal. Again, I am not looking for the deal of the century. Just don't want to be the one who is driving those TMV averages up! Sorry for all the dumb questions.

I've just started emailing dealers in Florida to get quotes on a '06 TL w/ Nav (I guess from the quotes you got that's what you're looking at too).

Rick Starr Acura in Ft. Pierce was $33500 plus $299 for dealer fees plus TTL.

Gatorland Acura in Gainesville was $33000 plus TTL and includes pro pack.

Palm Beach Acura was $31988 plus TTL and said they would beat any other quote by $100.

So far that's all I've got. Keep me posted on any deals you find in FL.

" Won't the 2007's be out in the next month or so? Can I use this as a negotiating tool for a 2006? Maybe I should keep them hanging for a couple of more weeks. "

That's exactly what I'm trying to do, but so far, the three dealers I've been chatting with haven't blinked. They're telling me when the 07's hit the floor, the price will be MSRP.
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
Here's where I'm at in central Florida.

Regal Acura in Lakeland: sales price $33425, OTD $36089

Fountain Acura in Orlando: $33400 plus TTL

Courtesy Acura in Sanford: $33000 plus TTL, incl. pro pack

I was told by a local LA area Internet Manager that the 07's probably won't come out until Oct/Nov time frame. This guy has been around the car business for a while and seems like a straight shooter.

I still love the car, but have not bought yet and am hoping the special financing will come back in September or so, or worse case, credit unions will come out with similar deals.

What I've done in the past is what many of the people on this board have done - that is, basically, email the Internet Manager, get an email quote and go to the next dealer and ask "by how much can you beat this price?" or words like that.

We in the LA area have the luxury of many car dealers in the greater metro LA area that want to make the sale.

    I hope this helps.

Thanks to Royal Ford over @ the Boston Globe, we now finally have info on the 2007 TL. My question, how will this effect prices on 06's and do people now think it might be better to wait for the 07..?

Just looking for people's thoughts on this...thanks..

My car was $32k including destination PLUS taxes/license etc. OTD price came to $35618 including 8.1% tax, $631 for the registration and $395 for doc fee. Tustin Acura in CA was offering $31,100 including destination + TTL.
  • tonyriztonyriz Member Posts: 4
The Dealer I bought from was Acura of Peoria (formerly known as Bell Acura). Was the only one as of July 31 to have a TL with th 6MT.

I'm getting ready to purchase a TL w/o Nav in the DFW area. I've received several quotes and they all state the invoice is $31,305 (not the $30,999 on Edmunds) - due to some advertising/marketing fees? Is this fee valid?

What are some of the OTD prices paid in DFW? At what dealership? I've been told by some dealers you can combine the financing and $1000 incentive and others you can't.
  • ron50ron50 Member Posts: 1
First of all a big thanks to everyone that posted on this forum as I learned a lot on pricing for a TL here. I just bought a TL w/ navi last week in Houston.

I paid $32300 + TTL for TL w/navi which included pro package at Sterling McCall. The OTD price was $34481. There were three dealers in houston area that were pretty close to this deal. This comes out to $500 less than the invoice. The only crook in Houston Acura dealer field was Gillman Acura who wanted $1000 over invoice and was pointing me to Edmunds site TMV prices. I sent him the link to this site just to show him that he was not dealing with an idiot.

I was also told by my sales guy that in DFW, you might be able to get about $200 less than the Houston market. I hope this helps others looking for their TL.
  • jas8jas8 Member Posts: 8
Congrats on the new TL. Did they give you both the $1000 incentive and the financing?

    My first post!

    This site rocks!

I loved being single and I loved my lady magnets. I've owned a Benz E-320, Porsche 911, and now lease a 2 door Infiniti G35. But now that I'm happily married AND have a kid on the way, I'm trading in the sports cars for the...er... "family" vehicles.

My wife (God bless her), needs a solid navigation system (the G35 nav is awful). I love her to death but she could get lost in a supermarket. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Acura's have the best? I understand that they have or WILL HAVE up to the minute traffic reports ON the nav????

We live in Los Angeles and traffic stinks.

My question is, after reading about 12 pages of wonderful material, do I lease the TL now in 2006 with the great discounts (but bad rates), or wait until the end of the year (my G35 lease is up EOM so I'll rent a car for a few months)when the 2007's are out (albeit at a higher rate)?

Also, am waiting on the 2007 MDX - They're trying to give away the 2006 models, but the 2007 suspension and other bonuses look way too intriguing and much more appealing than their competitors.

I appreciate the advice. I'm off to the Thousand Oaks auto mall to look at BMW'S (X3, X5) and the Infiniti's (G35 4 door), and even the Mercedes C series. In the end... the wife always wins! :)

    I appreciate any feedback.

    Newbie,

    bgk

I got my TL w/o the Nav at Pohanka Acura in Chantilly, VA on 07/28/06 (Friday). According to them, they are the #1 dealer in the country. As the #1 dealer, I assume they have other bonuses and incentives to make more profit than other dealers. In the pricing negotiation process, advertising/marketing fee was not mentioned. My OTD price was ~ 30,500 (price includes free wheel locks and free state inspection for life). The buying process was a very pleasant process.

I was just quoted 31,600 for an 06' TL w/NAV from a Northern NJ dealer who claims to have "plenty of stock". This was to included destination however I am not sure if the pro pack is included. Doc fee was 298 which seemed a little high compared to some of the posts mentioned here. I was actually going in just for a test drive and received this quote from a salesman and not the internet manager. How does this sound? And, can anyone recommend a good recent experience in the NY/NJ area? Is it likely that incentives will continue into September?
  • liferulesliferules Member Posts: 531
Nav is very good on the TL. Purportedly, the best in the industry is Lexus (I cannot vouch for that), but I'm very happy with the TL's.

Certainly you will get a cheaper purchase price on the TL now rather than after the '07's are out. Sometimes there are lease deals in December, but one cannot guesstimate if they'll be as good as the deals to be had now.

    Good luck!
  • mikefm58mikefm58 Member Posts: 2,882
" As the #1 dealer, I assume they have other bonuses and incentives to make more profit than other dealers "

That's what they always say, but I never believe it. That just means they have no problem meeting their quotas for volume bonuses. I doubt there are "other" bonuses and incentives.

    Hi,
I just wanted to let everyone know the price I paid so you can use it as a comparison if you're shopping for a TL. I was searching for months to find a used white TL with Navigation and parchment interior and low miles, but could only find them hundreds of miles away. One day I filled out an online new car price quote just out of curiosity and was shocked to see a new one was almost the same as some people were charging for 1 or 2 year old models!
I bought a new 06 TL with navigation and 6 speed for $31,490. I also purchased the 8 year/120,000 extended bumper to bumper warranty for only $1300. I bought mine at Mike Piazza Acura in West Chester, PA. I also received a price quote from another dealer, Montgomeryville Acura which was $140 less, but I chose the one that was closer to me because the lower priced dealer is almost 50 miles from me.

Posted awhile back about a visit to Devan Acura of Norwalk.

Since them, I've been to Executive in North Haven and Acura of Milford, and have talked price with NH internet mgr only. I have no desire to visit Greenwich Acura (nor any other car dealership in Greenwich, generally). Executive was really great to work with, while Devan was kind of 'if not you someone else', and Acura of Milford seemed more interested in badmouthing the fact that the local Toyota dealer was pushing more Camrys out per month than they'd sold in TLs all year.

North Haven offered 33,490 for an '06 automatic with NAVI. Add on 6.5% sales tax plus the 'destination fee' and you're approaching 36K. The dealer assured me that the price was good for any Acura he could find in the tri-state area (i.e., color/interior combo I want that is still available). Sticker on the car was 35.9K, so I figure they are quoting about $500 over invoice. I am going to try and get the 2.9% financing for 48-60 months through Honda, and think I'll get it because it seems that in CT there is a *TON* of '06 inventory sitting around doing nothing.

You're kidding right? Come on down to Long Island, where you can have the car below invoice (including the 1k incentive). I've been offered an '06 TL w/ NAV for 31,830 without any fight.
  • mikejones1mikejones1 Member Posts: 21
Just got a quote for 30,950 for 06 Acura TL NAVI and 29,195 w/o NAVI from Sussman Acura in PA. The price includes everything except Tax and Tags.

    Good Luck!

Mike, did you recieve this quote via internet sales?

I intend to purchase a 2006 Acura Tl with Navi in the NJ/PA area and this is the best price I have seen.

    Thx

Newbie here. Couple of questions on 06 TL w/nav - got a decent internet quote for $31,790 before $615 destination charge and admin fee of $169, but they noted the quote was inclusive of the $1000 cash to dealer incentive and in lieu of the special 4.9% APR financing.

Are the $1000 cash to dealer and "special" APR deal mutually exclusive?

And what's a reasonable destination charge and admin fee if anything?
  • hogriderhogrider Member Posts: 2
    Hi, another newbie here.

Looks like alot of the good deals for the TL arein Southern Cal. Anybody know of a dealer in North California giving good deals?

    Thanks
  • chaz87chaz87 Member Posts: 11
    Ron,

I purchased my TL from Sterling McCall in late July via the internet process and found them to be the most competitive dealer in Houston. They gave me very fair conditions ($500 below invoice and 4.9% financing). I also found Gillman :lemon: to be very proud of their vehicles and over priced.

Sterling McCall has the largest selection of TL's and best pricing structure in Houston. Buying a car from them is a no brainer.
  • kennyg8kennyg8 Member Posts: 225
jms8090, do you mind sharing the names of the Long Island dealers that gave you the $31.8k price. That price sounds very attractive, because even carsdirect wants $32.3k, which is about $500 more.
  • mikejones1mikejones1 Member Posts: 21
What part of the country are you in? The incentive and APR is not combinable in most states. 31,790 should include the destination charge. Like I said before let us know where you are at and we can then get you a better idea of the better deals out there!

The lowest I've found recently is 30,980 for a 2006 Acura TL WITH Navigation. This price includes EVERYTHING except tax and tags.
  • mikejones1mikejones1 Member Posts: 21
    Kennyg8

Would you mind going to Eastern PA to save 1000 off that Long Island price? How much is a greyhound ticket to PA? You can buy a 2006 Acura TL with NAVI including all fees for 30,850!!! I received some good quotes from NJ dealers as well so if you'd rather go that route I can check through my email quotes for what the NJ dealers were charging.
  • jchochhausenjchochhausen Member Posts: 2
Have you had any luck in getting a good price on a 2006 TL w/o navi in the mid west. I'm in the same boat, and don't have much competition among dealers, as there are only 2 in my area.
  • motts24motts24 Member Posts: 4
Has anyone recieved any Southern NJ quotes that come in around 31k + tags & tags?? If so would you please list your quotes and at what dealership if possible.
  • pb1000pb1000 Member Posts: 5
St. Louis was the area I was checking. First price from both dealers were around 31,500 w/o nav. I assume they keep pretty good tabs on each other since both quotes were about the same. Not very good compared to prices people are noting on this forum. I am just not sure how to take the next step. Waiting on a quote from an Indy dealer just to see where they are. Guess I could mention some of the numbers I am seeing here, but I doubt they will budge and I will get some type of spin. I can wait. In no hurry and maybe with 2007's coming soon they will want to get rid of the 2006's. Tempted to offer 30k and see what they say. Guess it doesn't hurt to ask.
  • gonein60secgonein60sec Member Posts: 56
Which dealer in Long Island? I was thinking about checking out Rallye today, would like to know if this is the dealer.
  • alana106alana106 Member Posts: 11
I bought a TL w Nav, Mats, Wheel Locks, and door edge in St. Louis mid April. I was not able to get the deals showing up here from the West coast and other areas. As mentioned, only 2 dealers exist in St. Louis. I did get a price from a dealer in Kansas City, but it wasn't much better than the price quoted here. I traded a car in, so can't say exactly what price I received. I can tell you that the price with trade that I received from St. Louis Acura was over $3500 better that the offer at Frank Leta. I gave Frank Leta a chance at the deal, since they were closer, and they let me walk away. Stating they had never missed a deal by $3000...BUT THEY DID. Pricing around here in April, was running between $33k and $34k at that time, judging from the internet quotes I received.
  • gonein60secgonein60sec Member Posts: 56
That's a pretty amazing price for a TL w/Nav. According to my calculations, thats only about a 2.75% profit for the dealer.
Here are my calculations for true dealer cost:
    TL w/ Nav:
    Invoice less dealer holdback of 3% of Bsse MSRP less $1000 dealer incentive ($32,205 - $1,060 - $1000) = $30,145
    TL w/o Nav = ($30,384 - $1,000 - $1,000) - $28,384.

Typically, its considered a fair deal if the dealership makes a 5% profit, so for TL w/Nav, a 5% margin would put the price of the car before TTL at $31,653 whereas w/o Nav would be $29,803. If you can get them at or below these prices then I would consider it a pretty good deal.
