I am looking into buy a new 2006 Acura TL with navigation. I've been working with Pohanka and received a car price of $33,630 for the car (not including tax, title, dest. fees, etc) , but it doesn't feel like I've gotten the best deal. I was referred to a salesman from my financial planner and was working with him for the car.
I wasn't too happy with the customer service (ordered the car, went to the dealership on my appt. day several day later and was told the car wasn't there yet .. they didn't attempt to find another car until after I was there). I've submitted requests for the same car from other area dealerships, but wanted to know if I'm in the right ballpark. This is the first time buying a new car and want to get the best deal possible . and I don't feel like I have at the moment.
Try Radley Acura at Columbia Pike rd. I was there last saturday and they quoted me 32500 out the door. I still have not picked it up, will go there in the next few weeks and make the deal final (Still looking around if I can get a better deal than this).
Here's what one gave me:
'06 TL Navi
Bottom Line Price: $32,853 + TTL
Residual is 56%
Money Factor: .00293
36 Months (12,000 miles) = $593.61(first mo. due at signing)
I don't remember the calculation that drives the price but that doesn't seem right. Please, anyone, review and tell me if this is right?
I'm looking to buy a certified pre-owned 2003 3.2 TL Type-S with a Navigation System and 47,000 miles on it. Is 23,000 + Taxes / Title / Registration a good price? Please advise!
Cheers,
Aashish
But the residual value is better and the MF is better. Why own a TL when you can own a 350???
Here's a thought: Because the TL is the car you want. Just as if the E350 is the car you want (as I did, beautiful car. I personally just did not see $20k more car over the TL. Darn New England frugality!), that is the one you should buy.
Oh, yeah. If you're leasing, you're renting. Not owning... Not that there's anything wrong with that!
'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)
Planning on purchasing the 06 TL with Nav if this happens
Shop Radley in Falls Church and Rosenthal in Gaithersburg. Both high volume dealers so you should be able to push them down on price.
Other dealers you can try are Karen Radley, Chevy Chase.
I bought a TL W Nav back in April, and also realized that with only 2 dealers in St. Louis, we are not offered the deals seen from the dealers on the West coast and others. My price was probably pretty close to what you show, but I had a trade in so its tough to know say exactly. I can tell you that I walked out of Frank Leta's dealership after giving them a chance to compete with the deal I had at St. Louis Acura. The Leta dealership is very close to me, but the deal they offered with my trade-in was over $3,500 more than what I paid. The salesman said he had never missed a deal by $3,50.. but he did, and I walked. Or I should say drove out to St. Louis Acura and bought the car 45 minutes later.
Good luck with your purchase... I thought you my be interested in what I found.
Alan
I got this from Appletree Acura, Asheville for a 2006 TL w/NAV, Anthracite with Black Interior. 31,875 incuding dest + 135 (Mud guard)+ 149 (Door Guard)+ 199 (Trunk Tray)+ 99 (Wheel locks)+ 175 (doc fee)+ 69 (License plate)+ 3% NC State Tax = 33675 OTD. Of course cannot combine with 2.9% APR though.
Please let me know if this is good price.
THANKS!

I recently purchased (in July) an 06 TL w/Nav from Sussman Acura's Maple Shade, NJ dealorship, and I found the deal legit. I initially dealt with the internet manager then presented it to the dealorship's sales mgr. It was pretty much a straight business transaction. They had a good selection and since they have a few dealorships in the Philly area that should help.they did negotiate a little on the options. Good luck.
PS. After the fact I received another notice from the internet mgr. for late July/Autust with a price about $300 less than the June/July quote. It was if I recall correctly around $31,900 with Nav.
Thanks again for the info.
Good Luck!
St. Louis Acura has emailed me a "no-hassle internet price" of $33,387 for a TL with navigation. This is roughly $500 over invoice not accounting for the $1,000 dealer cash I understand is out there. I will probably go by this weekend and see if they are willing to negotiate or if I can make up some ground on my trade (Jeep Liberty).
Here is exactly what went down:
I searched the forums: Found I could get an 06 TL with Nav and a sticker price of $35,940 - many here were offering $30,800.
That is what I offered both floor managers at Keyes in Van Nuys, CA and 101 West in Calabasas, CA - Both said they would throw in mud guards and wheel locks. However, the floor manager at 101 West (I can't print her name but its the same as the actress Ms. Zelwegger), is so incredibly cool and straightforward (see my notes in post #6538) and used Mechanics bank which had a better MF rate.
Here is how it broke down:
36 months, 12,000 miles per year
COST: $35,940
MY OFFER: $30,800
BANK ACQ FEE: $795.00
CAP COST REDUCTION: $31,595
WHAT I LAID OUT: $902.12*** (see note)
TAX ON CAP COST REDUCTION: $74.42
FIRST MONTHLY PAYMENT: $425.00
TITLE & REG FEE: $256.00
CAL TIRE FEE: $8.75
DOC FEE: $48.71
TOTAL I LAID OUT: $1,715.00**** (see note)
Residual was 56%
MF was .00195
My lease payment is $425.00 including tax
***(note) the lease payment with ZERO down was origionally $453.86 but I wanted a nice round number so I added 902.12 (plus the tax) to bring it DOWN to $425.00
So if you don't want to put ANYTHING down, just REDUCE my 902.12+74.42 ($976.54) and you're actual DRIVE OFF would be less than $800.00
Oh, almost forgot. I was a pit peeved that the car had 221 miles on it and was gonna walk (okay, not really, but they didn't know that), so they threw in a set of body side moldings (normally $245.40 installed, $135.00 on eBay).
I'm happy. Now you have some ammunition. Just print this and show them exactly what CAN be done. I had ZERO hassles.
I will be happy to answer ANY of your questions.
Matt
Build date on car is 01/06.
Any advice is appreciated.
Any comment on the guy who called me a liar?
Jason
that you're not being truthful is very
inappropriate and unprofessional. I certainly
wouldn't give that dealership my business if
I was treated that way. Even if what you said
might not be true, an honest professional would
just politely let you go on your merry way.
I witnessed this sort of attitude once before
at a dealership several years ago. It wasn't
towards me, but someone else in the dealership.
If it had been me, I probably would have told
that person up and down about his you-know-what!(LOL) Honestly, there's just no need for
people to get like that. Just take the high
road and move on.
Good luck with your future purchase though.
They also included Free oil changes for life and wheel locks for FREE.
I was happy with the service they provided me i was in and out in like 2.5hrs.
I posted a similar thread in the lease forum, but it appears this one is more active. I Need residuals and MF through american honda for an 06 TL auto w/nav. Assume 12k per year/36 months. I've been told both 57% and 56% by different dealers. .00293 was the MF, which is pretty high, however I have always liked dealing with honda. Any good alternatives?
Also, could someone give me a quick breakdown of the numbers for the monthly payment with 31,700+destination in a 36 month lease with honda? - I'm terrible at figuring leases out. Sales tax in my state is 6%. I'm told Bank fees are 595. What would my lease payment be if i put nothing down, versus if i put down whatever standard is?
Thanks.
I mentioned the name of the floor manager and got tagged by the car space police! Sorry!
What I said was, I will be more than happy to fax them over a copy of my deal - that is the same deal many had gotten from Acura of Tustin in SoCal. They had absolutel NO PROBLEM with my deal. Didn't even haggle.
Just be firm. Walk in and say "I'm offering you 30,800 for the TL with NAV. I want a 3 year lease with a 56% residual and a MF of .00195 from Mechanics bank (hopefully they actually USE Mechanics bank - it differs from state to state... although you can always CALL Mechanics bank). That is the deal others have gotten, that's the deal I want"
I will happily fax over my copy of the deal to any dealer in the country.
All of you helped me save money, I will be glad to help you!
Matt
Your MF is too high - ask them about MECHANICS bank. That's who I got my deal with. The bank fees were 795 instead of 595 but over the course of the lease, the .00195 MF instead of a .00293 MF saves $$$.
Also, look into the BMW 3series. The residuals are great and the MF are out of this world.
FYI, if you log onto leaseguide dot com slash calc dot htm it figures out your payments for you... if you are leasing.
Best of luck.
Matt
They don't give the lifetime oil changes like Radley (Woodbridge,VA), but they are 40 miles closer to home and they beat Radley's offer of 31,500. Of course, NOW Radley wants me to drive all the way back over so they can "beat that price". Funny how they had told me with their earlier offer they weren't making any money on the deal.
I think I'm getting a good deal, but it seems it is basically invoice minus $1000.
Tischer has been easy to work with and very low pressure. They're the little guy compared to Radley and they try harder.
I did most of the negotiating over email with everyone in the area (Radley, Rosenthal, Pohanka, ChevyChase). I had the $30,950 quote from Sussman in Philly, and used that in the negotiations. I let everyone know that I was more than willing to drive to Philly to save some money.
Rosenthal said they wanted no part of it.
The others wanted to "talk" and their initial offers were not too bad.
In the end, Pohanka (which is my local dealer) agreed to $31,000 which included destination, wheel locks and mats . That was only $50 more than Sussman and it saved me 5 hours round trip (and they had the exact color combo that I wanted on the lot). They also have the free inspections, and they could do all of the dmv work for me, so that was all well worth the $50.
I really appreciate this forum for all of the info. I'm very happy with my deal, and hopefully this will help someone else.
Thanks for the info. You must live near me. I got the same quote from Sussman and sent it to the same dealers. Criswell blew me off but Radley and Pohanka both claim they can beat it. They won't email a price to me though. I was curious what finance rate you were able to get? Thanks!
Also for the group, I was at the dealership this weekend and spent about 30 minutes listening/adjusting the sound system. I must say I am very disappointed with the sound quality of FM as well as my ipod using the itrip. XM sounded pretty good and i had no cd's with me. Does anyone know if the sound quality of the musiclink is significantly better than with the itrip? Or could it be that my old 20GB ipod isn't that great? I have read all the poor reviews on the musiclink for the ipod but would get it if the sound quality is dramatically better. I just feel with the price of the car the sound system should blow me away. Thanks in advance!!!!

appletree in ashville is dealing! oh ya, im in charlotte.
lets keep in touch as i too am in the hunt...grrrrrrr
my pricing was for a TSX not TL...many apologies
I do want to take advantage of the Acura financing. The best I have so far is OTD at 32,600 (not including my local taxes). This does include the "protection package". Any experiences would be appreciated.
Thanks, Bill
This is in Northern California - Bay Area.
The great news, those cars are being heavily discounted in anticipation of the 2007 models.
The bad news is the 2007 models are supposed to have improvements in hte Navigation [traffic congestion?] and audio [integrated MP3]... but Acura is smart enough to not pre-announce these things in order to sell as many 2006 before the 2007 come out.
Say, if you take a 3y load, at the end you will have paid about $34-36K, while the price of the car would be $20-22K at best - therefore you're down $12-16K after 3 years.
If you lease for the same 3y, you pay around $400/month ( a bit more if you need more mileage), which is $400*36 months = $14.4K. Considering that your payments are significantly lower, money can be invested - therefore bringing you to either equal or even better cash.
Am I wrong? If so - where?
Disclaimer: Of course, this is just a rough "exercise" which doesn't take in the consideration the car's after lease buyout price etc.
Goodluck with the purchase.
What dealer did you go to? I also live in the Bay.
