Yeah i felt the same that the seats were a bit too firm when i sat in the TL with tech package(did not drive this one). But when i test drove the SHAWD with tech, the seats were better and comfortable. I am on the edge as well debating if i should go for the SHAWD.
    Feedback from others greatly appreciated.
  • neilmanneilman Member Posts: 42
Thanks for the feedback....I just went out and tested te shawd again for about 20 to 30 minutes. Car runs great...feels solid...ride is firm but not harsh. Power, handling, of the sh is awesome. A little hard getting in and out with the heavily contoured seats...and unfortunately the steering is not power and does not move up automatically. Definitely felt the lumbar protruding quite a bit...hard to tell without a long term test if it would be too much for me and cause back pain. Others may feel differently...I'm a skinny guy so it is definitely more of an issue for me. For this reason unfortunately can't see myself going for it...by the way the sound system is awesome...way better that the Bose in the G. More bass overall and good sound in the front and back. The G sounds weak in the back.

    Hope to get more feedback...thanks!

The lumbar bolster may have been inflated. Check first. We have the SHAWD and love the seats, ride and handling. The AWD is very confidence-inspiring in all weather. You might try TireRack or Discount Tire websites to try and get an idea of what chrome wheels will look like. One advantage of the AWD wheels is the ease of cleaning inside and behind the spokes.
Believe me, the more you drive the car the more you like everything about it!
    Good luck! :)

Thanks Chasboy...the lumbar adjustment was completely deflated...I think I might try different seat bottom adjustments...sometimes lifting the back part of the bottom seat to be flatter with the front part releases some pressure from the lumbar area. I love the car...so am looking for ways to make it work. Did you find the seat got softer after some time? I actually think it's the side bolsters that are very pronounced that are potentially causing the problem for me.

Does anyone think a power tilt/tele steering is possible for the 2010 model? I'm tempted to wait....as that would be a huge plus.

    Thanks!

Having had back problems for 35 years, I've been very sensitive to car seats and the positions one needs for comfort, and just because the angle on one seat works, doesn't mean the same angle works in another car. One of the most comfortable seats I ever had, especially when my back was at it's worse, was in my 1978 IHC Scout 2-that had no adjustments except for the seatback.
In that time and since, I have not found one 'lumbar support' to be of any benefit!
    :confuse:
I used to be skinny, now just a 'full' size large. I find the bolsters to be great. You are totally right about adjusting the seat bottom. When my back was at its worst, if I felt like I was going to slide forward in the seat, I would be in agony in minutes.

I'm happy to report I went back to the dealer and sat in the car today and by making adjustments to the seat bottom to be flatter rather than having the back part on a decline I was able to relieve the pressure on the lumbar area...it's actually what I do in my car now..but had not remembered that detail. Looks like it might actually work out for me...only thing now is sh vs fwd...love the power and handling of the sh...our roads here in South Florida are pretty good...but the trunk is cramped because of the awd and has many uneven surfaces which would make it pretty hard to maneuver even one large suitcase into. I still want the sh though...need to think through it. At least I'm getting closer to making it happen!
  • neilmanneilman Member Posts: 42
Anyone know the scoop on the black with umber combo on the sh-awd...I can't find any in stock here in South Florida. This is the only color combination I am interested in and do not want to have to pay a premium for it. Is this in limited production or something?

    Thanks!
  • ChasboyChasboy Member Posts: 186
Its a cool combo. No its not limited and you should not pay premium. Its just a matter of what there is around. A dealer I spoke to got an odder combo that that for a customer, just took some time.

Anyone have any tips on any new upcoming manufacturer incentives? Waiting for one to buy the sh awd.

I am waiting to see the June incentives (likely manufacturer to dealer) as well. I got a quote yesterday for a TL that would imply that there is an incentive or the dealer just wanted to go under invoice to clear TLs.

FYI...based on conversations with dealers today (keeping in mind their motive is to sell sooner rather than later)...they say acura is preparing to release 2010 models starting with the tsx...and therefore we should not expect additional incentives on the tl shawd as they have decreased inventories quite a bit for the 09s.

Also, vehix seems to provide very good inventory information (compared to edmunds, cars.com) with excellent options to filter/sort. According to vehix there are approx 300 shawd in stock nationwide. Vehix is also the only site where I could find decent quality pics of the TL with the chrome wheel option that is actually offered on the vehicle. Look in the browse photos section...it has it in black.

Just thought I'd pass the info along for anyone who may find it useful. I welcome any feedback/opinions.
  • neilmanneilman Member Posts: 42
To clarify...300 sh awd in stock nationwide is with tech..the total tech and base sh inventory is around 600 units.

Total 09 TL inventory (all models) is around 3,300, and for May they sold 3,375 units (may include some prior year models left in stock which I imagine would be minimal).

Doesn't seem like they have too much inventory to move...which could impact their decision on whether to offer additional incentives or not.

Sales volume info is from acuranews.com, an official site of Honda. Inventory info is from vehix.

There's an Acura dealer in Cincinnati (Superior Acura) with at least 50 TLs in stock (3+ rows of them). Their web site lists 70 in inventory. Most were TLs w/Tech. About 6 were SH AWD. Anyone interested, I went browsing their lot last night (after closing). Had just about every color combo available.

Me too- I went up to Acura of Milford which is about 4 miles from where I live after closing. They have approximately 36 TL's in stock, around 7 SH-AWD with Tech and a few without the TECH. I dont think inventory is a problem, the dealers are just not dealing here in CT. I am willing to stick it out until Acura releases some kind of attractive incenive. But on the other hand, if I see a white diamond pearl with the HPT wheels, I might be willing to make a deal.
  • gorillamonsoongorillamonsoon Member Posts: 26
I think the data you are getting is not the whole picture or not accurate on the total inventory. The four dealers in Houston list just under 300 TLs in stock combined. Based on 3,300 nationwide, that implies about 9-10% of all TL inventory is concentrated in the Houston area, which while possible, is not really plausable. The total inventory also implies a 30 day supply which is not realistic.

Not sure if production has been stopped for '09 but I sense that the dealers are getting nervous on the TLs still sitting on the lots - but still trying to determine how much dealer cash Acura is kicking into them so I can get a real read on the right pricing for June.

You have to keep in mind.. Acura only sells two models in any volume, at all.. The TL and the MDX..

For a dealer to have 50-70 of each of those two models is not a huge amount... It's not a low supply, but if the dealership sells 50 cars per month, then 100 cars is only two months supply..

I too am hoping for some other incentive to come out while the low interest rate offer is still in place (through 7/6/09). Unfortunately I wasn't ready to buy before the $2k dealer cash offer ended on 6/1. Hopefully as soon as someone in this group finds out he/she would let the rest of us know. I am checking edmunds / incentives daily.
  • gorillamonsoongorillamonsoon Member Posts: 26
I think there is something on it. I got a quote under $32,000 + TT&L for the base model so it implies a $1,000 or so dealer cash incentive, or they are really willing to reach into holdback to dump these.

As far as the inventory situation, the local dealers all seem to have 50-90 of these in stock and I doubt they are selling 50 a month in this economy and based on the amount of people I've seen in the dealerships. The question really is at what point to they have to really start clearing these out for 2010 models, or will Acura delay that release?
  • acurashopperacurashopper Member Posts: 9
Still waiting and watching...I received an email from a dealer today informing me that no "reasonable offer" would be refused. I was invited to name my price. Hmmm. Might just have to throw a number back at him to see what happens. You never know...

Also now looking at another vehicle (mid-sized SUV) that might actually work better for me. It's not the RDX - too noisy and the turbo charger lag drove me crazy during the test drive.
  • gorillamonsoongorillamonsoon Member Posts: 26
I sense that the Infiniti dealers are more motivated right now to move G37s than Acura guys are to move TLs. I will say this, one thing that Acura and Honda try to do is not put "cash in the trunk" if they don't have to in order to keep up pricing integrity and resale values. However, they happened to pick the absolute worst year to introduce a new TL with a non-traditional styling. I loved the car and the ride (although the G37 is nice and the seats I liked more) but I want to see the best deals i can get before I decide to pull the trigger on one or the other.
  • neilmanneilman Member Posts: 42
I went back and forth between the G37 and TL...ultimately feel the TL is the right choice for me (although the G37 is still pretty tempting) as the TL tech sound system is superior in my opinion, transmission shifts are smoother, and I like the styling of more. The 09 G37 is mid-generation (last redesign for 07) and we can expect a redesign in 2 to 3 years. Since I keep my cars long term...would prefer to go with a new model.
  • kingpcgeekkingpcgeek Member Posts: 1,051
I would much rather have my horsepower driving my rear wheels instead of the front wheels. When I test drove a TL last year before turning in my 05 G it took me all of 1 minute to realize that I wanted a new G. I don't know if I can ever drive a front wheel drive car again.

Actually the TL I am considering is the AWD model which has 300+ horses and more torque than the base TL. I agree...RWD would be superior to FWD.
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,135
billy...I think I actually saw a couple of diamond white TLs with those wheels at Superior Acura. Maybe more, as I didn't look at each and every one of them. They do have probably half their back lot filled with nothing but TLs, however.

I'll assume the $2K incentive is no longer in effect?

Love those wheels with the WDP, unfortunately, there is none at the dealers here in CT.
  • cebtebcebteb Member Posts: 138
The RDX is a compact SUV, the MDX is Acura's mid-size SUV and a darn good one at that.
  • cebtebcebteb Member Posts: 138
If Acura really sold +3K TL's in May, that's decent sales for it and probably does mean that dealer inventory is turning over in 60 days or less. Both items are not good news for those of us waiting for the best deal on a new TL.

It may be that the best time to deal on a new TL was late last year or very early this year. Now we are butting up against the fact that '09 TL production may have already been stopped and the '10 TL introduction may be delayed until fall. I'm not holding my breath waiting for a new set of sales incentives in June or July, when we were planning on getting really serious about a TL purchase.
  • neilmanneilman Member Posts: 42
    You may be right...but...

Since I started tracking inventory on the weekend...national total all TL models went from 3,271 to 3,226. AWD went from 578 to 574. They would have to be selling about 850 per week to keep up with May sales. Maybe the end of the incentive will kill sales and cause them to re-introduce it.

Of course looking at the vehix inventory we can't tell how much new stock has been added to the total...if any.
  • kingpcgeekkingpcgeek Member Posts: 1,051
Sorry but I give zero credence to the inventory numbers on vehix. I checked the two closest Infiniti dealers to me. The closest dealer is not even listed on vehix, the second one shows 39 G37 sedans in inventory, while the dealers site list 35. The dealer they do not list has 25 cars in inventory. So between only two Infiniti dealers vehix is off by 21 cars. Extrapolate that to all of the Infiniti (or Acura, Honda, etc) and vehix inventory numbers are pretty worthless.

I think the inventory numbers are flawed on Vehix, as I pointed out in an earlier post. I do concur that the best time to purchase may have passed or the discount peaked earlier this year, but I still think good deals are out there.

Lastly, is there anyone out there who works for Honda or Acura that can confirm the dealer incentive or program for June??

I'm in the Sacramento area and looking to purchase a certified TL-- '06 or newer with less than 50k miles. Not looking to spend over $25k so an '06-'07 is probably my best bet.

Anyone out there buy within the last year an '06-'07? What kind of deal did you get? Anyone in my area?

    TIA!

Triple post is quite unnecessary. When you buy a car out of state you have to pay the taxes of your home state.

Does anybody know if the 10 TLs will have a manual transition option, and when the 10s may come out?
  • jpdisarrojpdisarro Member Posts: 33
Yes, the AWD TL will have a 6MT option for 2010. From what I've read, the 2010 TL is supposed to be available starting in September.

Anyone heard whether or not the 2010 will get the 6-speed auto from the ZDX?

Has anyone picked up a SH-AWD w/HPT or SH-AWD w/Tech in SoCal? Which dealer did you use, and how did the transaction go?

Can anyone provide details on the Leadership program and/or Graduate program?

I spoke to someone at Santa Monica Acura, they have only sold one w/HPT over the last few months and it supposedly went for sticker. I've got until mid/late October to find one and hopefully get a good deal.

Dealer here in Texas (DFW area) said that $37,500 is good all day any day for a TL SH AWD w Tech. That's what he said when I asked him, I've been by to test drive and he's been calling me every week for the last 5 weeks. His comments make me think they will now let go of the TL cars for the prices listed below. This is based on what I've read and heard from others, what 2 area dealers have whispered to me and based on the fact that dealers in my area have overflowing lots lined full of TL's. Can you say desperate?

    TL w Tech: $33,500
    SH AWD w Tech: $36,000 to $36,500

The trick is to get it with 19" wheels included, side moldings, mud flaps, etc.
  • acurapriceacuraprice Member Posts: 91
Have had two different dealers offer the following:

TL w Tech: $33,499 - includes side molding, mud flaps, trunk tray, wheel locks, any color any car on lot.

TL SH AWD w tech: $35,899 - side moldings, mud flaps, locks, 18" wheels. Grigio w Umber/Black interior.
  • dio1dio1 Member Posts: 11
Wow thats pretty strong. I would think they would sell a couple hundred more cars at that price point.
  • billyperks2billyperks2 Member Posts: 378
From all the research and offers I have made to dealers, I think 35,899 is total unrealistic for the SH-AWD TECH- in the North East region.
  • jmcmannisjmcmannis Member Posts: 39
Wow, I wish I could get prices like that here in Pittsburgh! They're quoting me $40,500 for the SH-AWD with Tech.
  • letsgogiantletsgogiant Member Posts: 3
From Edmunds.com, the invoice for SH-AWD with Tech is 39,898, and I don't see any cash incentive going on. How can you get a quote that's $4000 under invoice? Can you let us know?
  • acurapriceacuraprice Member Posts: 91
As you all know, many of the Acura dealers/salespeople come on here routinely and try to prop-up prices, protect their margins. If you want the quotes I listed, call any of the major 3 dealerships here in DFW. If you don't believe me, just call Daryn Harkins at Mac Churchill Acura in Fort Worth, TX.

Happy shopping and don't forget, it's a buyers market right now. If they know your serious, they will come with the price to earn your business.
