If you get the command right the voice activation is dead on every time. I'm really impressed with that. I've toyed with the navigation but haven't really put it to the test yet. I've been reading about it more than using it-but it's early.
The sound system is superb. DVD audio is for real-try Sting's Brand New Day DVD-A CD-the separation is out of sight. I was 50/50 on XM radio but I like the variety AND the reception. Some have expressed disappointment with XM but I don't see why?? The sound is clear and full. I'll probably sign on....
The car is well worth worth the $$$.
call in 5 or 6 dealer, tustin offer me the lowest, and it was quick, got out of the dealer in less than 60 mins.
The only major issue that I cannot stress enough on Navi TLs is AVAILABILITY. It is freeking hard/impossible to find this vehicle in the northern LA area. If you go onto a lot expecting to buy that very same day, more than likely, you will be disappointed. According to most dealerships the most popular colors in the Southern CA area are 1) silver 2) anthracite (gray) 3) red. Personally though, after checking with about 6 dealerships, I found the longest wait time on an order was for the Anthracite. Wait time for that color was on average 1 – 2 months. The dealers have this sob story about a low production rate coming out of Ohio where this vehicle is made (I was told they are made in batches of 29 at a time) but I think it’s more of a marketing ploy to get us to pay close to MSRP. Smart move on their part though whatever the reason for the low availability, my wife and I test drove one and we were absolutely hooked on this car, it is that good. My only advice on getting the TL Navi in the color that you want would be to plan on car shopping on a Friday, maybe as late as Saturday morning but get there early. I have a feeling that most dealerships receive their shipments of cars Wed-Fri. so that they are “stocked” with at least a couple for sale on Saturday. Just my opinion. Thanks to all of the posters on this board for their input. With the bits of knowledge that I was able to obtain from everyone I think this was the most informed purchase that I have ever made.
Decisionmaking is compounded somewhat by the fact that the Saab dealer in Santa Ana is discounting *several thousand* below *invoice* on 2004 Aeros. Hard to pass that up...but TL, TL, TL, as someone said! ;-)
Strong work, theclutch. You have set a nice precedent.
I knew it was highly rated since I've already read the previous CR review but just seeing that magazine with the TL actually on the cover really made my day.
For the individuals who are lurking on this board considering a TL I have one piece of advice. Test drive it!
Is the 2.9% financing still available thru American Honda?
I talked to American Honda directly and told me I had to check with the dealership. Want to know before I go in...
Thanks.
$30,950.00 = cost
2,557.09 = tax
256.00 = license
45.00 = tire fee
$33,813.09 = total
hopefully this can help other ppl whos interested in the non nav model.
6-Speed Manual with Navigation, Nighthawk Black Pearl/Ebony, no protection package.
$33,695 plus $595 acquisition fee. Leased through AHFC, 50% residual, .00195 money factor.
Finding a manual with navigation is very difficult. Getting the color I wanted was next to impossible. I had three dealers bite at the above price, only two of which had the car I wanted. Another had that price, but white/parch (Yuck). There were only three of the manual with navigation in the color I wanted within 200 miles of me. In the midst of dealing, one of the cars got sold out from under me.
Long and short, making the drive from Toledo to Akron first think in the morning and GETTING MY NEW TL!
The Pilots are smooth and quiet. I can't comment on the traction as I've only driven them on dry pavement so far and I'm still babying the car through the break-in period.
I want a TL 6 speed w/Navigation, Anthracite with Ebony interior, with rear mini-spoiler (called trunk) lip wing. I have one dealer who can get the car offer $35k including protection package. Hmmm? Negotiation room?
Another dealer offering any Automatic color with Navi and protection package for $33.5k .
Any coomments on these prices?
? Does the dealer pay the same invoice price for 6 speed and auto?
- John
thanks for the info on your deal at Tustin Acura. I am in Arizona and I called up the Internet manager (John Mackay) and he gave me the same deal as you i.e. $30950 +TTL for 6MT, NoNav, Black/Ebony. This is $1000 less than the best deal I was getting in Az. So am planning to fly tomorrow (spend ~$100 on SouthWest Airlines), pick up the car and drive back. John was kind enough to pick me up from the airport too.
dbacksfan1,
you may want to look into calling this dealer too.
I can't say enough about the car. Happy driving...
For that monthly payment, you could own the car in 7 years assuming a 5% interest rate and $900 down on $31.5 out the door price.
Now, before I get beat up on suggesting a seven year loan, the loan balance at the end of 4 years is a bit over 11K, and we already know that the car will still be worth $16K and change. Trade it in, pay off the note and buy a new car in four years with $5K down.
That said, the lease number I got was $416.xx for 12K mi/48 months, which still made the car cost $2K more in the final tally. $37 to lease and buy out v. $35K to own in 5.
I never have to worry about excess mileage or unusual wear-tear. Anything I add to the car is mine, too.
TL with 6spd manual, Non- Navi. with protections package and trunk spoiler (small one)
$31890 plus tax & tags.
I need to decide between navi and non navi. I am starting to lean toward Non-navi, as they can't find any with Anthracite and Ebony 6 speed.
Can anyone convince me of the Navi?
Do it Jaun, Just do it!
Point of fact, the money factor you quoted is equivalent to an interest rate of 6.12%. You can go to leasecompare.com to see better lease deals for the car. Residuals aren't very negotiable, but need to be looked at to compare leases.
Frankly if it's that tight, you might consider an Accord v6 or a TSX.
MSF2: "I had a friend in the car last night who had a few cold one's with me..." Hmmmm. The TL is quite safe with the VSA and the front and side curtain air bags, but is it worth finding out while drinking and driving?
Jaun, don't drink and drive-but get the Navi. Just do it!
Here on Edmunds, they put the TMV residual at 47.6 - 52% for 5 years and 15K miles.
The easiest (if not only) way to increase the residual value % is to reduce the capitalized cost....
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
As such, what I was saying is that 16 is 50% of 32, and 16 is 48% of 33.
So, for a higher 'real' residual value % (the value of the car as a percentage of actual price paid), reduce the cap cost. As you said, the actual residual amount selected by the finance company won't change since it is based upon MSRP. That number and the percentage used to calculate it are rarely negotiable, but good for comparing different lease arrangements/terms.
I ran the lease numbers 6 ways to Sunday, and in the end, I can see why the industry likes this car sale method. They make money on every aspect of the transaction by having control: the sale, the trade in, the interest rate/money factor (e.g., 2.9 vs. 6.12), etc.
In order to answer the question, what is the cost of the car before TTL?
No offense intended, but I sense from your question that you may be a "monthly payment buyer." That's what all dealers dream of.
From your post it appears that they are offering to sell the TL Navi for about $1000 over invoice ($2000 below MSRP)--an excellent price indeed! My concern is that they may be taking profit behind your back with a needlessly high APR and possibly some overpriced add-ons like accessories, warranties, paint protection, rustproofing, etc.
Forget about monthly payments, down payments and other stuff the dealer wants to talk about. When buying, all that matters are the purchase price before TTL (tax, title, license) and the loan terms. All the rest is just noise.
Here's my advice. Run, don't walk, to the online order form at Edmunds.com and buy their book "Strategies for Smart Car Buyers." It's a quick read and worth its weight in dollar bills. Do your homework now or pay the price later! (Or for 60 months at least...) ;-) Good luck.
