The price difference between a RL and TL with nav is not much - I purchased one RL in northern va yesterday for $37,100 (including destination and processing fee etc.)plus tax and tag.

Since TLs are in such short supply here in Phoenix, the dealer's aren't willing to discount more than $1400 off MSRP (for a leather non-nav unit). I guess I'll have to wait until supply gets better. Too bad they're not as plentiful as those on east coast (and No. VA in particular).

Northern Virginia Pohanka dealer is the largest volume Acura Dealer in the country so you can find good discounts there

Picked my TL up yesterday (Redondo Red/Parch/Navi) and all I can say is WOW. I haven't had it too long but here are a few thoughts: the drive is incredible-Falken Ziex 512 tires are quiet as a mouse. I can't compare to the Turanza's (in my basement) because the dealer swapped them off but I'm glad I made the switch. No rattles, creaks, or vibrations yet....and I'm not holding my breath. This car is solid.
If you get the command right the voice activation is dead on every time. I'm really impressed with that. I've toyed with the navigation but haven't really put it to the test yet. I've been reading about it more than using it-but it's early.
The sound system is superb. DVD audio is for real-try Sting's Brand New Day DVD-A CD-the separation is out of sight. I was 50/50 on XM radio but I like the variety AND the reception. Some have expressed disappointment with XM but I don't see why?? The sound is clear and full. I'll probably sign on....
The car is well worth worth the $$$.

call in 5 or 6 dealer, tustin offer me the lowest, and it was quick, got out of the dealer in less than 60 mins.

Way to go theclutch! Sounds like you got a really good deal. I just pre-purchased a Black/Quartz TL w/ navi yesterday evening from Keyes Acura in Van Nuys, CA. Got >$500 off of MSRP ($34,695) and my wife and I got them to throw in splashguards and the trunk tray for free. We got a pretty decent deal on our trade in too. The vehicle should be arriving later this week so we are pretty excited to take possession to say the least. We thought about purchasing the non-navi since we probably would have gotten a better deal but we knew that we would kick ourselves later on if we didn't get it.

The only major issue that I cannot stress enough on Navi TLs is AVAILABILITY. It is freeking hard/impossible to find this vehicle in the northern LA area. If you go onto a lot expecting to buy that very same day, more than likely, you will be disappointed. According to most dealerships the most popular colors in the Southern CA area are 1) silver 2) anthracite (gray) 3) red. Personally though, after checking with about 6 dealerships, I found the longest wait time on an order was for the Anthracite. Wait time for that color was on average 1 – 2 months. The dealers have this sob story about a low production rate coming out of Ohio where this vehicle is made (I was told they are made in batches of 29 at a time) but I think it’s more of a marketing ploy to get us to pay close to MSRP. Smart move on their part though whatever the reason for the low availability, my wife and I test drove one and we were absolutely hooked on this car, it is that good. My only advice on getting the TL Navi in the color that you want would be to plan on car shopping on a Friday, maybe as late as Saturday morning but get there early. I have a feeling that most dealerships receive their shipments of cars Wed-Fri. so that they are “stocked” with at least a couple for sale on Saturday. Just my opinion. Thanks to all of the posters on this board for their input. With the bits of knowledge that I was able to obtain from everyone I think this was the most informed purchase that I have ever made.

theclutch - can you email me with some more details on your purchaselease? My e-mail is in my profile (or will be shortly). I have talked to their internet manager and want to verify a few things. Thanks in advance.

You rock, dude! I've been waiting for a success story in SoCal. To clarify, you paid $30,950 including the $545 destination charge, correct?? If so, that is a cool $1500 below Edmunds' True Market Value for this area and a mere $650 over invoice. I could definitely live with that; no need to beat every cent of profit out of the deal. Now if only similar discounts were available on Navi cars (sigh).

Decisionmaking is compounded somewhat by the fact that the Saab dealer in Santa Ana is discounting *several thousand* below *invoice* on 2004 Aeros. Hard to pass that up...but TL, TL, TL, as someone said! ;-)

Strong work, theclutch. You have set a nice precedent.

Just took delivery of a Desert Mist/Parchment TL non Navi. I agonized over Navi vs. Non-navi. I decided to see how close I could get between what non Navi (close to invoice) vs Navi (close) to MSRP) were listed for here. I faxed 15 Acura dealers a letter to buy a Navi (Desert Mist/Parchment or any Parchment interior) that day and 1 token Infiniti dealer for a 2004 G35 Manual w/ Navi. I received $500 over invoice for a Navi in late Feb from Columbia Acura in Cincinnati (where I live). Problem was it was for a Blue w/ Camel (not my cup of tea). The dealer would order me one but I would not receive it until May. My lease for a Saab is ending in March so I decided to get a non Navi. Nice to know I could get it close to invoice.

Yesterday I was dreaming about taking delivery of my pre-ordered TL some time this week and I opened my mailbox and guess what car CR picked for the cover of their annual auto issue: the '04 TL!

I knew it was highly rated since I've already read the previous CR review but just seeing that magazine with the TL actually on the cover really made my day.

For the individuals who are lurking on this board considering a TL I have one piece of advice. Test drive it!

I picking up delivery on TL w/ nav here in Texas. I'm purchasing the car and not leasing.
Is the 2.9% financing still available thru American Honda?
I talked to American Honda directly and told me I had to check with the dealership. Want to know before I go in...

    Thanks.

With Park Acura of Akron, Ohio.
6-Speed Manual with Navigation, Nighthawk Black Pearl/Ebony, no protection package.

$33,695 plus $595 acquisition fee. Leased through AHFC, 50% residual, .00195 money factor.

Finding a manual with navigation is very difficult. Getting the color I wanted was next to impossible. I had three dealers bite at the above price, only two of which had the car I wanted. Another had that price, but white/parch (Yuck). There were only three of the manual with navigation in the color I wanted within 200 miles of me. In the midst of dealing, one of the cars got sold out from under me.

Long and short, making the drive from Toledo to Akron first think in the morning and GETTING MY NEW TL!

I am looking for a dealer to get a good price from in Ohio. I'm interested in a Non-Navi AT, which doesn't seem to be in as high demand. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just closed a deal on a Black/Ebony 6MT w/nav, wing spoiler and PP for $34,000. I will be leasing for 42 months, 15k miles, no sec deposit (50% residual, .00205 MF). With acquisition fee my payment is $538.94. With a $75 doc fee, and $23 for plate transfer my cash at signing is $641.44. I pick up the car at the end of April (being built 4-24).

Hello everyone. I just preordered a new TL and was told by the dealership that it was on the truck headed my way. It would be nice to know an exact day I can expect it to arrive but the dealership insists that all they can do is give me a ballpark estimate (i.e. 10 day window) on when it should be in. Is that the case with most dealerships or am I being fed a line? I would think that the trucking/automotive industry is a bit more schedule oriented than that! Any thoughts? It was supposed to have left the factory around March 2-3.

Also looking to get a TL and live in ohio, though 538 seems a bit high, then again you got the Nav, I'm looking for a non nave TL, just the base and hoping to lease it for about 400 - 430... any one from the clevland area (actually live in hudson) know of where I could possible get a good deal on a TL?
  • moeronnmoeronn Member Posts: 34
cjs2002 - The only way I know of to get a lease on a TL with payments between 400-430 would be to pay at least $3000 out of pocket at signing. Many people suggest paying as little out of pocket as possible due to the fact that you could not recoup that money if you were to total the car. With minimum drive offs (Title/license+first month payment), you probably won't get payments much below $500/mo. on a 36 month lease. If you happen to find a way to do it, let us know.

It appears that TL's are popular in Ohio. Does anybody know of any good deals in the Central Ohio area? Hopefully, demand isn't too far ahead of supply.

Purchased a new TL last week in Springfield, Mo. Black/Ebony with Six Speed and summer tires-list $33,398. Added Protection Package(mats, locks and mud flaps)and doc fees($195). Paid $31,688. Put 1000 miles on it. Averaged 28 mpg at 80 mph on the Highway on a 450 mile trip. Great car,the summer tires make it handle much better. Need to have a little exhaust note-too quiet. Well satisfied-very comfortable.

I exchanged the traction-challenged EL-42s yesterday for Michelin Pilot Sport A/Ss. The choice between these and the Falkens was rendered a no-brainer by the fact that the shop selling the Michelins agreed to give me $150 per tire for the Bridgestones making them cheaper than the Falkens where I would have had to keep the originals as a garage adornment. Cudos to the Tire Depot here north of Toronto who honoured the quote they gave me back in October which included the buy back on the OEM tires. They're not doing it any more, but when I showed them the quote on the back of the manager's business card they didn't hesitate to honour it. So nice to see an ethical business every once in a while.

The Pilots are smooth and quiet. I can't comment on the traction as I've only driven them on dry pavement so far and I'm still babying the car through the break-in period.

After driving the Volvo S60 and Audi A4's I have decided the TL blows them all away.

I want a TL 6 speed w/Navigation, Anthracite with Ebony interior, with rear mini-spoiler (called trunk) lip wing. I have one dealer who can get the car offer $35k including protection package. Hmmm? Negotiation room?

Another dealer offering any Automatic color with Navi and protection package for $33.5k .

    Any coomments on these prices?

? Does the dealer pay the same invoice price for 6 speed and auto?

thanks for the info on your deal at Tustin Acura. I am in Arizona and I called up the Internet manager (John Mackay) and he gave me the same deal as you i.e. $30950 +TTL for 6MT, NoNav, Black/Ebony. This is $1000 less than the best deal I was getting in Az. So am planning to fly tomorrow (spend ~$100 on SouthWest Airlines), pick up the car and drive back. John was kind enough to pick me up from the airport too.

    dbacksfan1,

you may want to look into calling this dealer too.
  • moeronnmoeronn Member Posts: 34
I had contacted that dealer before and after getting the info from theclutch. I offered the price quoted above for an Anthracite/Ebony, but was told that that price was not valid for Anthracite or Silver models. The price for those colors was 31995. That seemed rather rediculous to me, so I am looking at other dealers in SoCal. If you are getting one of the other colors, its definitely work talking to them. It just didn't seem to work out for my color choices
  • msf2msf2 Member Posts: 88
Nice going! It worked out well for you. I'm not sure if you saw my earlier posts but I'm very happy with the car. Six day's, only 272 miles and no complaints. As for the Falken's-they are as good as advertised. Silky smoth and quiet-firm grip on the road. I'm keeping the car off the winter beaten roads right now and staying pretty much on the highway.
I can't say enough about the car. Happy driving...

Local dealer: 2004 TL non-nav no particular color picked. $600 below MSRP, $895 down includes 1st payment & processing fee? 48month lease/15000 miles for a monthly payment of $497! My salesman told me the AHFC MF was .00255 and the cars residual value at lease term end is 50% $16,597? Can someone digest this? This seems way out of whack compared to what I'm reading on this board. Should I stick to a 36 month lease? I just want a low monthly payment.
  • jmaxejmaxe Member Posts: 198
I think you'll find all the factors you need on the Lease board. Also go back to post #1029 for one buyer's VA dealer experience. Good luck.
  • hoyahenryhoyahenry Member Posts: 399
The residual value is the only number that looks close to correct.

For that monthly payment, you could own the car in 7 years assuming a 5% interest rate and $900 down on $31.5 out the door price.

Now, before I get beat up on suggesting a seven year loan, the loan balance at the end of 4 years is a bit over 11K, and we already know that the car will still be worth $16K and change. Trade it in, pay off the note and buy a new car in four years with $5K down.

That said, the lease number I got was $416.xx for 12K mi/48 months, which still made the car cost $2K more in the final tally. $37 to lease and buy out v. $35K to own in 5.

I never have to worry about excess mileage or unusual wear-tear. Anything I add to the car is mine, too.
  • electronselectrons Member Posts: 16
Just wanted to add my little information. The dealers are discounting the non-nav, auto to around 1200, back of MSRP, including destination charges, because of the huge demand for NAV. and the lack of supply, the discount is around 500, again inclusive of destination charges. Note that's here in LA/OC area. I believe they will even up to a discount of 1500 from the above if pushed.
  • sjmurray3sjmurray3 Member Posts: 90
Thanks Hoyahenry, and I agree with you, but my financial situation is pushing me to go the lease route for the lower monthly payment. So you agree with the 50% residual on a 48/15K lease? I have read on the lease board residuals of 53-54%? As for pricing, I see some deals at $30,600 + TTL? Are these cars being discounted almost to invoice?
  • littlejuanlittlejuan Member Posts: 16
Just got back from dealer with new numbers. By the way, the showroom was packed, and they had no cars on the floor! People were fighting over TL's and MDX.

TL with 6spd manual, Non- Navi. with protections package and trunk spoiler (small one)
    $31890 plus tax & tags.

I need to decide between navi and non navi. I am starting to lean toward Non-navi, as they can't find any with Anthracite and Ebony 6 speed.

Can anyone convince me of the Navi?
  • msf2msf2 Member Posts: 88
Do it...get the Navi. You'll regret it if you don't. I had a friend in the car last night who had a few cold one's with me and I let him punch in his address on the way home to see how it works. It was the first time I used it and it was right on. He was knocked out. The Navi not only picks the route it picks the BEST route. The voice command is a work of art. It works sometimes even if the commands are a little off. It's fun figuring everything out and it flat out changes the driving experience. The interplay between the voice command and the audio is a blast. It's true, everything is right at finger tip control but the added luxury of voice command is is a nice treat. I'm really not trying to sell it....I've had my car for a week today, but I was back and forth about it too and I'm glad I went for it.
Do it Jaun, Just do it!
  • hoyahenryhoyahenry Member Posts: 399
Somebody here got one for $1 under invoice. So, yes, forget about the sticker and negotiate from the perspective of how much profit you want the dealer to have!

Point of fact, the money factor you quoted is equivalent to an interest rate of 6.12%. You can go to leasecompare.com to see better lease deals for the car. Residuals aren't very negotiable, but need to be looked at to compare leases.

Frankly if it's that tight, you might consider an Accord v6 or a TSX.
  • dtate99dtate99 Member Posts: 122
Juan: You could go back and forth all day long on whether or not to get the navi. It's been done in these forums ad nauseum. Only you can decide if it's something you'll use. I did not get it--not b/c I didn't think it was "worth" the extra money, but b/c I quite honestly would likely never really need it. It's sorta like owning a 4-wheel drive vehicle; it's cool to have, but if you never go off road, why would one need a 4WD Expedition just to haul the family around?

MSF2: "I had a friend in the car last night who had a few cold one's with me..." Hmmmm. The TL is quite safe with the VSA and the front and side curtain air bags, but is it worth finding out while drinking and driving?
  • msf2msf2 Member Posts: 88
    Good point.....

Jaun, don't drink and drive-but get the Navi. Just do it!
  • sjmurray3sjmurray3 Member Posts: 90
so on a 48 month/15KMile lease my dealer is accurate with a 50% residual?
  • hoyahenryhoyahenry Member Posts: 399
It's not the dealer; it's the bank/financing company that determines that number.

Here on Edmunds, they put the TMV residual at 47.6 - 52% for 5 years and 15K miles.

The easiest (if not only) way to increase the residual value % is to reduce the capitalized cost....
  • sjmurray3sjmurray3 Member Posts: 90
Understand, but like BMWFS, where the residuals seem to be set in stone, what are Honda's published residuals for a 48 month lease, etc?
  • dmccalldmccall Member Posts: 3
The best quote I can get on an automatic, no-nav is $25,200 before tax, license, destination, etc. Has anybody done any better in SoCal? If so, where?
  • edelgoedelgo Member Posts: 4
About to buy a 04 TL with Navi for $33k, $599/mo with $3000 down. Is that a good deal?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  • jmaxejmaxe Member Posts: 198
Reducing the cap cost doesn't effect the residual %. It merely reduces the amount of your monthly payment. Car is still valued at the same residual % of MSRP at lease end.
  • sjmurray3sjmurray3 Member Posts: 90
For what it's worth, I'm at $497.00 48/15K no money down on a non-navi, so I would say no, but there are some wiser people on this board. I'm still trying to crack the code. I think I should be in the low 400s for my situation. Will test another local dealer on Monday.
  • edelgoedelgo Member Posts: 4
About to buy a 04 TL with Navi for $33k, $599/mo for 60 months with $3000 down. Is that a good deal? I'm buying the TL, not leasing, as the previous post assumed, due to me forgetting to mention the duration of my loan.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  • hoyahenryhoyahenry Member Posts: 399
Yes, but the Edmunds numbers on residual value after 5 years aren't based upon leasing residuals from MSRP.

As such, what I was saying is that 16 is 50% of 32, and 16 is 48% of 33.

So, for a higher 'real' residual value % (the value of the car as a percentage of actual price paid), reduce the cap cost. As you said, the actual residual amount selected by the finance company won't change since it is based upon MSRP. That number and the percentage used to calculate it are rarely negotiable, but good for comparing different lease arrangements/terms.

I ran the lease numbers 6 ways to Sunday, and in the end, I can see why the industry likes this car sale method. They make money on every aspect of the transaction by having control: the sale, the trade in, the interest rate/money factor (e.g., 2.9 vs. 6.12), etc.
  • hoyahenryhoyahenry Member Posts: 399
599/60 for a 33K loan at 3.4% looks right. The out the door price looks to be $36K, which depending upon taxes where you live could be high, or it could be low.

In order to answer the question, what is the cost of the car before TTL?
  • 03oddity03oddity Member Posts: 60
As above per hoyahenry, it all depends. If you are financing exactly $30,000, then they are charging you 7.375% interest, or about double the going rate.

No offense intended, but I sense from your question that you may be a "monthly payment buyer." That's what all dealers dream of.

From your post it appears that they are offering to sell the TL Navi for about $1000 over invoice ($2000 below MSRP)--an excellent price indeed! My concern is that they may be taking profit behind your back with a needlessly high APR and possibly some overpriced add-ons like accessories, warranties, paint protection, rustproofing, etc.

Forget about monthly payments, down payments and other stuff the dealer wants to talk about. When buying, all that matters are the purchase price before TTL (tax, title, license) and the loan terms. All the rest is just noise.

Here's my advice. Run, don't walk, to the online order form at Edmunds.com and buy their book "Strategies for Smart Car Buyers." It's a quick read and worth its weight in dollar bills. Do your homework now or pay the price later! (Or for 60 months at least...) ;-) Good luck.
  • edelgoedelgo Member Posts: 4
$33000 is before TTL. With TTL, its $35300. I put $3000 down. Amount financed was $32300 and the monthly payment is $599 for 60 months. This any good?
